Honda Big Ruckus PS250 scooter review
Perhaps Honda's designers were bored.
Perhaps it was a military order they were trying to obtain; I can only imagine it now, a phone call from a senior officer to the poor dumbass who is processing new equipment contracts. “We need a new vehicle for Iraq... It has to be big and made of pipes. And it should be able to pull a tank out of a ditch... And don't forget, it should look like a truck. And of course, make it big... Really big, and of course, make it absolutely huge!” Probably not... They probably used up all the plastic in the factory and had a huge amount of steel pipes lying around. I don't actually know how the Big Ruckus came to be, all I know is that while I was riding this...hmm...thing, these words spontaneously popped into my poor, clogged head. Let your engine run on the highway. Go on an adventure and whatever comes along the way. Yes, the little things will make it happen, take the whole world into the arms of love. Fire all your guns at once... burst into space.
The words are not mine, and the accompanying images of long deserted roads stretching to the vast and blue sky that are conjured up in your and my imagination. However, the opening scene of the 1960s movie “Easy Rider” does a good job of describing my first impressions of the Honda Big Ruckus. Not to mention, I had this song running through my head for hours after I rode Honda's Ruckus for the first time.
What is this movie that features big American Harley Davidson motorcycles, and what do they have to do with the 250cc Japanese scooter? On paper, this is a very small relationship. However, when you sit on the Ruckus and when you ride it, the overall feeling is that the bike is much more closely related to a big cruiser than a traditional scooter. This is a large, long, low, heavy device that looks very unusual.
Frankly... a bloody bastard. One person asked if I crashed my Harley into a maneuverable scooter! I just laughed because you see this bike is so ugly it's just cool. If any scooter could be described as macho, this is it, other scooters are just good. And Big Ruckus has a hairy chest. If John Rimbaud rode a scooter...I would choose this one instead. In fact, in a fight, Ruckus would be a Chuck Norris roundhouse kick.
Riding the Big Ruckus will free your mind; you see the numbers say this bike should be fine. It has 19 horsepower from a 250cc engine; The brakes aren't amazing given the large front disc. The suspension is a bit low and it can be bottomed out quite easily, still managing to absorb every road imperfection through the well-tuned chassis. There is practically no storage space. It is wide and a little awkward to use in traffic. Although you can gain more control if you lean back and sit up straight in the seat. Actually, in terms of what I generally consider to be the important categories for a good scooter, the Honda Big Ruckus (called PS250 in Japan) has a hard time getting there. But... And this is a big BUT... I definitely love this bike. Despite all these shortcomings, I smile from ear to ear when I climb on it, hell, I grin just looking at this scary beast.
Honda's Big Ruckus has the most comfortable seating layout imaginable outside of the La Z Boy. The overall layout includes a very comfortable seat with a padded backrest. The backrest lowers and becomes a rear seat when riding together, which is comfortable for all participants. Your feet rest on front-mounted kickstands like those found on most cruiser motorcycles. Also the above mentioned seats move, allowing for easy adjustment. Unlike most Hondas, the Ruckus we tested had a factory-installed side stand as a compliment to the well-balanced center stand. You'll pretty much just slide into the Ruckus 250 like your favorite chair, put your feet up and go.
The engine, while not particularly powerful, provides plenty of range of performance across the rev range and has enough responsiveness to pass most cars at city speeds. It will also be comfortable to travel on the highway. One note about highway riding... This is a very open bike, which means a lot of wind in your face, especially at highway speeds.
The functionality of this simplified unit is well presented, with the effectiveness of the front disc being undermined by the rear drum and the extra weight. The headlights are extremely good; The dual headlights are very powerful and well aimed. This makes it obvious how far behind most scooters are in this regard.
The instrument panel is quite good, with a trip meter and audible and visual warning indicators. The speedometer is a bit cluttered due to the miles and kilometers per hour scale. However, if your native speed is miles per hour, then this will not bother you, since MPH is used as the dominant scale.
Overall, when our test team confers to come up with its final scores, I think the Ruckus will fall quite a bit short, but it's a bike that is more than the sum of its parts. If you ride it, I have no doubt that you will give it 5 stars, 10 out of 10, 100% rating. Start your engine and hit the highway if you want a little adventure and a smile that can only be removed with a baseball bat. Take Ruckus for a ride... Fire all of your guns at once... and... hmm... blast into space.
Review of the Chinese copy of Honda Big Ruckus
People call it General, because other than Pioneer General, no other ones were brought to the region. Except mine, which turned out to be Leike. But that’s not the point, damn it’s a 150 cc Chinese with a 157 engine. There is no point in considering this part at all; there are already thousands of reviews.
The most important thing about it is the fit and back. I am quite tall (193 cm) and have tried on almost all the maxiscooters that my friends had. On Tmax, your knees rest on the steering wheel, on Majest, on Sky, on Silver. Yes, everywhere! I still don’t understand how I fit on my first Suzuki Sepia moped...
But on this stool I can stretch my legs. Sometimes you can even put them on footrests and straighten your knees! In general, straighten your legs completely! Lean back and ride almost lying down. The back reaches my shoulder blades and is very wide. It can be lowered and then it will become a seat for the asshole. And if you lift it up, then instead of the second number, you see a huge flat platform-trunk.
Just a month ago, circumstances forced me to go to Ikea. I returned back with a foam mattress, two bulky blankets, a pillow, a stuffed blue Ikea bag and an equally stuffed travel bag. There was still room left . It looked comical, of course, but what other moped can you throw so much and even more on?!
Considering its appearance and Chinese engine, it makes no sense to talk about handling and dynamics. This unit immediately says that it will ride like a cow, but this cow will be comfortable. In general, for a slow (up to 80 km/h) and quiet ride, leaning back.
And they are almost never stolen. For most people around, the moped causes surprise, and not a desire to steal it. In three years, I remember only one hijacking of a general in Rostov.
Yes, even vandals stare, but vandalism doesn’t bother them
A minimum of plastic and an “outer” frame should be considered design details. Whether this is a plus or a minus is a subjective question. For me this is a huge plus. Considering the amount of iron that is visible, almost anything can be screwed, welded, drilled, glued, or taped onto it.
In general, all the shortcomings of Chinese internals (engine, suspension, electrics, etc.) for me are completely offset by the advantages of the frame and seat.
Z.Yu.
I'm thinking about a more powerful moped, but only if it's a plus. I'm ready to replace the entire power unit, but I need this frame!
Z.Y.Y.
By the way, the original Big Ruckus with 250 dropsy and an injector costs 200,000 rubles and more. And they are carried very, very rarely.

The Honda PS-250 or Honda Big Ruckus 250 off-road scooter is a unique model of a Japanese all-terrain scooter, which has no analogues in the world, the production of which was carried out from 2010 to 2010. This modification optimally combines the aggressive dynamics and cross-country ability of a light enduro motorcycle with the practicality and comfort of a city maxi-scooter.
Like the previous, “younger” modification (Honda Zoomer AF-58), the PS-250 version was made on the basis of a lightweight but durable tubular frame, without unnecessary external cladding. In addition, the scooter was equipped with large wheels with off-road tires. In Japan, this scooter was produced as the PS 250, and in North America, in the US and Canadian markets, it was introduced as the Big Ruckus 250.
Good aerodynamics, an impressive (1455 mm) wheelbase, a powerful (19 hp) four-stroke liquid-cooled engine with a single cylinder capacity of 250 cm³, on a comfortable highway allow the scooter to develop a maximum speed of more than 150 km/h. At the same time, with a total weight of 172 kg, a gasoline injection engine will need no more than 3.3 liters of AI-95 fuel per 100 km of travel.
The Japanese all-terrain scooter Honda PS-250 is ideal for traveling on paved roads, city streets and country roads. This scooter is convenient for traveling both short and long distances. The soft seat has a folding backrest, which can be brought to a horizontal position and can accommodate a passenger behind the driver's back.

The final price of each scooter depends on the year of its manufacture, mileage and condition.
The off-road maxi-scooter Honda Big Ruckus 250 can be ordered upon request with delivery from Japan. To do this, you will need an advance payment of 50% of the total cost of the SUV, the amount of which will depend on the parameters you stated (year of manufacture, mileage, etc.), and a month of waiting.
