2018 FIM MotoGP World Championship

was the main class of the 70 - I FIM Road World Championship season. Marc Márquez entered the season as the reigning champion, with Repsol Honda the reigning team champion and Honda the reigning constructor champion.

Originally planned to run 19 races, the season was shortened by one Grand Prix due to the cancellation of the event at Silverstone on 26 August due to unsafe track conditions due to standing water following a driver vote. [1] [2] [3] [4] [5]

Marc Márquez captured the championship trophy on October 21, 2022, after sixteen rounds, winning three races in a row in the spring, three more races in a row in the fall, and nine overall. Andrea Dovizioso finished second and Valentino Rossi third, first with four wins while Rossi did not record a race victory. Jorge Lorenzo with three wins and one win each for Cal Crutchlow and Maverick Viñales were the other race winners. Yamaha suffered the worst winless streak in its history, going 25 races without winning, which lasted from the 2022 German Grand Prix until Viñales' victory at the Australian Grand Prix. KTM took the podium for the first time at the Valencia Grand Prix

MotoGP rules.

For those who are just learning all the advantages and features of this race, it will be useful to carefully and in more detail familiarize yourself with the MotoGP rules. What are these rules and features of road racing?

1.The World Racing Championship consists of three classes, one of which is MotoGP.
2.Prototype motorcycles can exist in the singular, although two copies are usually provided. For what? Of course, for insurance, that is, in the event that the main copy is damaged and it will not be possible to restore it, as well as in the case of a slick, which happens and happens when the track dries out too much.
3.The minimum permissible weight of motorcycles should be 137-163 kg. It is worth noting that the final figure directly depends and is set in accordance with the number of cylinders. The most common is the four-cylinder model, which weighs 148 kg.
    4. Racing regulations, which specify a number of requirements. First of all, the race starts and starts from a place, the length of the movement route is 120 km, a special scheme is used to calculate points, which is also actively used and used in most circuit motorcycle races, the first 15 participants who earned 25-1 points receive a reward.

Probably everyone will agree that the rules of the MotoGP race are constantly being improved and changed. So regarding this year the following changes and cancellations were introduced.

    1. Abolition of the newcomer rule, the main essence of which was work in satellites, and then in factory teams. Now you can hire absolutely any racer, that is, a pilot.
    2.Abolition of the one-bike rule.
    3. Carbon brake discs, which are prohibited for use.

MotoGP racing is a truly spectacular show that once you visit and see with your own eyes, you fall in love and become a fan and admirer forever.

Calendar changes[edit]

Comparison of the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya configuration used in 2016 and 2022 (top) and the layout used from 2022 (bottom).

  • The British Grand Prix was due to move from Silverstone to the new Welsh circuit, but construction on the new circuit was not started. [63] The two circuits reached an agreement that would give Silverstone the opportunity to host the 2022 race. [64] At the end of the British Grand Prix, all three races were canceled due to hazardous track conditions on race day and were not rescheduled.
  • The Thailand Grand Prix is a new addition to the calendar with the race scheduled for October 7th.
  • The Catalunya Grand Prix used a new configuration of the Barcelona-Catalunya Circuit, which merged the previous set of turns 13, 14 and 15 into a wide right-hander. The new layout was previously used in Formula One from 2004 to 2006.

Race.

This year, as mentioned above, the races will take place on the new KymiRing track, which is being built and will be located in the town of Itti. At the moment, all work is carried out under the strict and careful control of the general promoter of MotoGP. Anyone who closely follows all the changes and events taking place in this sport knows that the Finnish Grand Prix has not been held since 1982. After all, it was at that time and then that the FIM Grand Prix Motorcycle Championship left Imatra due to a track safety problem. But here's another route. There simply wasn’t one in the country that was ready to host and hold such large-scale races, even despite the large existence of various auto and motorcycle tracks.

Another very important and significant news for the fans of this race was that this year’s MotoGP calendar will also be replenished and expanded to 19 races. What is this connected with? First of all, the championship included a new participating country – Thailand. What other interesting points can be noted?

  • Firstly, the circuit, whose architect is Hermann Tilke, has already signed a contract for motorcycle racing for 2 years with the promoters Dorna Sports.
  • Secondly, the Thailand round will take place towards the end of the calendar, thereby creating two Grand Prix road blocks with races to be held in Japan, Australia and Malaysia.
  • Thirdly, there is a high probability that this or next 2019 the calendar will include Kazakhstan with its famous race track called “Falcon”.
  • Fourthly, there is a limit for the season. How to understand this? It’s simple, from the official statement of Dorna head Carmelo Ezpeleta it became clear and obvious that MotoGP will not have more than 20 Grand Prix per season, which is also stated in the new rules.
  • Fifthly, race tracks that were not included in the list of races. Simply put, among all the contracts already signed for this year, only the Spanish Jerez and the Austrian Red Bull Ring were not included in this list for this season.

Regarding upcoming plans, there is also already speculation that the MotoGP race list could be supplemented by a participating country such as Mexico. It is this country that is included in the company’s grandiose plans, or, more precisely, this concerns the famous motor racing track named after the Rodriguez brothers. Yes, yes, this is the same track where the F1 championship recently took place.
