Motorcycle Trigger 50 SM (2012): technical characteristics, photos, videos

Motorcycle manufacturers rarely spoil motard lovers with new products - alas, the choice in this class is really very small, so each model, like the Stels Trigger 125, is greeted by the public with genuine interest. In addition, Chinese companies have flooded motorcycle showrooms with cheap small-capacity enduros, road bikes and cruisers, but somehow they haven’t imported motards before, and this is another reason to take a closer look at the Stealth Trigger 125. Despite the modest cubic capacity and obvious focus on novice bikers, this is a fun The two-wheeled toy is also popular with experienced motorcyclists who want adrenaline and entertainment.

Size doesn't always matter

And Stels Trigger 125 is an excellent confirmation of this. Its modest dimensions have only one drawback - it may not be very comfortable for a large motorcyclist. On the other hand, motards are not intended for long trips - you need to ride them around the city, clear traffic jams and have fun in every possible way. In addition, in the city, the Stealth Trigger 125 feels like a fish in water, and even the traditionally wide steering wheel does not interfere with seeping through cars, and the small engine provides surprisingly brisk acceleration. This bike is equally pleasant to ride on business, quietly passing where cruisers and sportbikes cannot squeeze through, or just ride on a warm summer evening. In addition, Stels Trigger 125 feels good on light off-road conditions. At least better than most other “asphalt” motorcycles.

The technical characteristics of the Stealth Trigger 125, by the way, are quite good for a budget Chinese motorcycle. The designers placed a 124 cc 1-cylinder liquid-cooled injection engine , which in itself is atypical for budget bikes from the Middle Kingdom. The motor is very good - 15 hp. and 12.2 Nm of torque, which is comparable to the characteristics of the 125 cc “Japanese”. At the same time, Stels Trigger loves high speeds, reaching its peak power at around 9000 rpm , which inevitably leads to unpleasant small vibrations. Unfortunately, this is inevitable on any small motorcycle. The transmission of the Stealth Trigger, by the way, is 6-speed , and all gears, except the top one, are quite short. On the one hand, they have to be constantly switched during active driving, but on the other, this has a very positive effect on the dynamics. The maximum speed of the Stels Trigger 125 is about 110 km/h , however, it’s a pity to “stoker” a light bike all the way - it starts to shake like a fitful Chihuahua dog.

Other advantages of Stealth Trigger 125 include ease of control. The bike actually steers very easily, which is facilitated by its low weight and proper mass distribution. The braking system is also surprisingly effective - both front and rear there are disc brakes with 2-piston calipers , and they stop the light bike well. The pendants, however, do not cause delight, but they do not cause hostility either. The Stels Trigger 125 has them, they work properly, but that’s all that can be said about them. Let's look at the rest in more detail:

the Stels Trigger 125 caught my attention - primarily because... my first motorcycle was a Stels Trigger 50X. Secondly, it is fuel-injected for relatively little money... but what is it... almost for nothing, considering the price of other fuel-injected enduros. Thirdly, 15hp is stated, i.e.
the same as the Chinese 250x. I couldn’t come up with a reasonable reason to buy this moped; it looks even more absurd when I have two new KTMs... but interest was stronger than common sense and I bought it .

New Stels Trigger 125

A few words about triggers: They are produced in China according to the order and design of the Austrian motorcycle store
KSR-GROUP , they own the Generic , created to attract customers with unique mopeds. Their most successful moped, Generic Trigger 50 , is a hodgepodge, according to the KSR-GROUP recipe , from the technologies of European companies (Minarelli, Aprilia, Derbi... you can’t tell what and where))) This moped has gained popularity, apparently due to its acceptable quality and relative cheapness and excellent appearance)
Generic Trigger 50X

In
2012 , KSR-GROUP created the first motorcycle completely of its own design - Generic TR-125 . Despite the name and some external similarities, it only has wheels and a name from the Trigger 50, the rest is on crutches and adjusted with an ax - it drives and that’s fine. Probably the designers were given the task of creating the appearance of quality while reducing the cost as much as possible - which is generally natural for a store )) But at the time of purchase I didn’t know this, I thought that it was no worse in quality than the Trigger 50.
The first trip to the Stels Trigger 125 completely discouraged me when or get on this moped again... we managed to accelerate the maximum to 105 km/h by pressing close to the steering wheel to reduce wind resistance - well, that’s okay, I didn’t expect more from a 125... but there are: Serious problems: 1. The most irritating thing was the geometry - the tail was very raised and the front is lowered, you sit as if on a hill, nose down and constantly lean on the steering wheel so as not to slide down. 2. No brakes! you hold the lever and don’t feel the braking, while the lever pulsates - apparently the disk is curved. 3. Terrible play of the pendulum and all axes of progression, which is why it chatters a lot on the road. 4. The chain was rubbish, it stretched before our eyes... after only 100 km it bent to the sides as well as vertically. 5. Weight - 140kg! For 125ki this is tough! They didn’t spare metal... although metal is a strong word, more like plasticine.

There is something good in everything bad! I’ve long wanted to try working with hardware , to feel like a customizer)) In general, the question is “why did I buy it?” I decided on my own)) Satisfied , I ran to the store to get the tool)) Then I found an urgent sale of Stels Trigger 50X and bought it as a donor (then the donor was sold in the 50SM version for a small profit)

Donor Stels Trigger 50X “before” and “after” donation))
Process. The first thing that became clear during disassembly was that the stock plastic was rubbish: it was thick, heavy, fragile, like glass, and badly painted—pieces of paint were falling off right before our eyes. There's shame and horror under the plastic - Tens of extra kilos of shitty metal!
The tank turned out to be a special feature) It’s steel, crooked, and because of it you can’t fit the rear enduro wheel. Subframe and tank Trigger 125

The tank and subframe are no good, we need to make new ones... from aluminum) I measure, draw, buy the material, give it to a welder I know, a week later I get a new aluminum subframe, almost weightless)))

New subframe

Next
is replacing the fork and wheels . On the 50X , the fork is longer (corrects the geometry), lighter, longer stroke and softer (important for enduro).
The diameter of the nibs on the 125 trigger is 51mm, on the 50X it is 48mm. The difference in the length of the feathers is 25mm. The crossbars are absolutely identical, not counting the diameter for the feathers in the lower crossbars (the upper ones are the same). The traverse axle is 125 longer, so I had to unpress it. I warmed it up with a hairdryer (about 10 minutes at maximum power 660'C), the axles were knocked out with 2 hits with a rubber hammer. comparison of feathers, depressing, comparison of traverse axes

Changing
the wheels didn't go smoothly either. The hubs are the same, but the axles are of different diameters, so we had to change the bearings and order the production of bushings. Then a problem arose with the calipers, on the 125 trigger they are too fat for spoked wheels... and, despite their impressive size and weight, they work much worse than the small and light calipers from the 50X trigger.
I had to order the manufacture of caliper mounts and rearrange them too. Trigger caliper 125 with spoked wheel and caliper mount.

I installed the subframe and wheels , cut off the extra fasteners))

Now the tank!) I measure, cut out a template from polystyrene foam, cover it with tape because... I plan to sculpt a tank from fiberglass . I purchased epoxy and fiberglass, but nothing came of this venture due to lack of experience - the rigid fiberglass did not stick to the epoxy... later I realized that I had to wait until the epoxy thickened a little...

tank template

Again I give the measurements and template to a welder I know, and after 2 weeks I receive a finished aluminum tank, lightweight! made perfectly according to the template, with fastenings for the fuel pump, level and filler neck))

The tank is stock and new.

Instead of
the fragile and heavy stock plastic, I purchased a complete set of used plastic from a 2012 KTM SX at a nominal price.
Next, trimming the excess fasteners, painting, replacing the pendulum bearings and progression axes, assembly, replacing the spokes, re-arranging the electrics, fixing the plastic fasteners and routinely adjusting the plastic with a hair dryer... As a result, the moped lost weight from 140 kg to 118 kg, the geometry was corrected! The landing is now normal - enduronic)) and the moped itself rode much more cheerfully, due to the weight reduction, and can be lifted into the rear without any problems)

I present the result for your consideration) I understand that there is no special work here, I just lingered a little in the garage upon arrival from work... but given my zero experience in such work... the moped has changed dramatically - from a weak freak into a good all-terrain bike for a beginner )

Reviews from Stels Trigger 125 owners

Cool moped, I bought it new from the dealership as a second bike, the first and main one was the VTX 1800. At first I read a lot of reviews about the Stealth Trigger, then I decided to buy it rather than a used Jeep, I ended up picking it up at the dealership at a discount for 66k, now it seems to be more expensive already worth it. With a height of 175 cm and a weight of 70, it drags confidently; I travel for work every day during the season, since on Vtyksa it’s hard to drag through traffic jams in the center, especially in the heat. Mileage 11,000 km, flight normal. Vitaly, Moscow, Stels Trigger 125 '2015

I use the bike mostly outside the city, I put it in off-road tires, with which it even moves confidently through the mud, although the suspension settings are not enough. There were typical Chinese problems - loose screws, oxidized contacts and other unpleasant little things. For its price, the motorcycle is normal, a Japanese one in such a budget would be a waste of money. Roman, Bologoe, Stels Trigger 125 '2014

A very interesting lightweight motard, perfect for riding around the city. I took the bike from my hands, scratched and lying on both sides, so I repainted it right away, without the Stealth inscription no one will even recognize the Chinese. Nimble, lightweight, easily handles heavy two-wheelers in traffic jams, and can drive anywhere, even on steps. The suspension is a bit harsh and the gears have to click constantly. Accelerates sharply, enough in the city. Vasily, St. Petersburg, Stels Trigger 125 '2016

How did it all begin?

The Stels trademark is reserved for the Russian one. The company began its activities in 1996 with the production and sales of bicycles. The first plant was built in 2003. Among the main production facilities of the company, the following branches can be noted:

  1. In the city of Kubinka, Moscow region.
  2. Bryansk region, Zhukovka.
  3. Krylovskaya village in the Krasnodar region.

In a short time, the company has become one of the leaders in the production of European-level bicycles. Subsequently, lines for the production of scooters, snowmobiles, and ATVs were established. Stels motorcycles are one of the company’s most successful products, known not only in Russia but also abroad. The quality and international compliance of products is confirmed by ISO-9001/2011 certificate.

Total

Despite the decent price (more than 80 thousand rubles in 2018 ), Stealth Trigger 125 undoubtedly deserves attention. It is equally good as a first motorcycle and as a recreational bike. And it can handle the role of utilitarian transport - it consumes little gasoline, traffic jams are not a problem for it, and it is easy to drive. Perhaps the Stels Trigger 125 can be called one of the best small-capacity Chinese motorcycles on the Russian market.

Motorcycle Generic Trigger

The Generic Trigger motorcycle is a product of collaboration between Austrian and Chinese companies. Moreover, the European side handles engine manufacturing, and the Asian side handles assembly.

Photos of the model convey a stylish, attractive design, looking at which you might think that the vehicle was produced, for example, in Japan or in Austria. All details have a high-quality appearance, streamlined shapes that are pleasing to the eye. The bright coloring affected not only plastic surfaces, but also metal ones, which will appeal to the young driver audience.

And the distinctive features specific to the enduro modification immediately catch the eye. Seventeen-inch alloy wheels with a pronounced tread pattern on narrow tires that prevent the scattering of dirt. The front guard is mounted high above the wheel. Wide steering wheel for ease of maneuvers. The motorcycle will undoubtedly be able to reliably traverse rough terrain.

Among the technical characteristics, one can highlight the Austrian engine. It has one cylinder and a liquid cooling system, is a two-stroke engine with a volume of fifty cubic centimeters. The power unit has a power of six and three tenths horsepower.

The second option is a volume of one hundred twenty-five cubic centimeters. Also single-cylinder, two-valve, but four-stroke. It produces fifteen horsepower.

On the motorcycle forum it is said that the Generic Trigger has a narrow wheelbase and low weight, these characteristics allow it to be very maneuverable. Therefore, the owners of this model are not afraid of city streets filled with cars. He can easily drive around cars stuck in traffic jams, move over the curb, and “squeeze” into narrow gaps in parking lots.

Reviews about the cross-country ability of the motorcycle are very positive. Trigger is not capable of developing cruising speed, but it effortlessly overcomes uneven asphalt roads and confidently handles dirt roads. Those who love an adrenaline rush can get it by riding cross-country.

The owners include the disadvantages of the Chinese assembly: the parts do not fit tightly, the mechanisms are often loose. Therefore, after purchasing, it is recommended to be patient and pick up a screwdriver to eliminate the possibility of losing any part along the way.

"Stealth Trigger 125": reviews

Judging by user reviews, the new domestic motorcycle may well compete with foreign analogues. Consumers consider the following aspects to be the disadvantages of technology:

  • engine capacity is too small for cross-country racing;
  • not the most energy-intensive suspension;
  • intensively wearing tires.

During extreme driving, the unit produces the maximum of its capabilities. It's easy to drive and has no problem crossing the worst roads on an uphill climb. At a speed of one hundred kilometers per hour, the bike holds the track smoothly. Pluses include ergonomics, cool design and six gears.
