Yamaha Tricker XG 250 (XG250) review – BMX motorcycle characteristics

If you ask, what is BMX? Most people will say that this is a bicycle. Well, at least a special subtype of it. What if you make a BMX motorcycle ? At the same time, it’s not easy for a moped to be a bicycle with a motor, but a full-fledged road bike? This is exactly the question that Yamaha became interested in at the beginning of this century.

A few years later (according to some sources, already in 2001 ), in 2004, the Yamaha Tricker 250 appeared on the market. Lightweight, maneuverable, a real sport , but with an enduro focus. At the same time, he beats the representatives of the latter trend in almost all respects.

Creating a fairly light, durable, and at the same time class-appropriate bike turned out to be a difficult task.

The engine of such a motorcycle had special requirements:

  1. it should create good torque;
  2. have low power (enduro);
  3. don't be angry.

And the Japanese succeeded . The bike received a motor from an equally well-known development of the brand, which was already listed as a competitor - Yamaha Serrow. It was rebuilt, retuned and began to be installed on a new motorcycle.

Consumption, according to the manufacturer’s documentation, is 2.58 l. per 100 km . But if you consider that the bike was initially positioned for domestic sales, these numbers are indicated in the Japanese manner. At the same time, Tricker is one of the few models in which users from other countries also report the same numbers.

For example, in Moscow conditions the consumption is 2-2.5 liters . The average distance on one gas station is 150 km .

The compact placement of the fuel tank paired with the optimal handlebar height makes the ergonomics of the bike very comfortable for riding both standing and sitting.

A bright, light, motorcycle that you want to sit on and ride - the Yamaha Tricker 250. We offer you a small photo selection of this road motorcycle, which can give a lot of emotions to its owner, especially when performing stunts.

Peculiarities

The seat of the bike is located unusually low for an enduro, which makes the model very comfortable even for short riders.

Since the motorcycle has become extraordinary, its features can also be classified as such. The owners note:

  • slide down the stairs , climb onto a high curb, jump onto the sidewalk - the possibilities are limited only by the skill of the pilot;
  • ideal for traffic jams - it squeezes even where other road workers are forced to stand;
  • light weight - this quality is often noted by girl bikers;
  • good handling and excellent maneuverability .

As many who have had a chance to ride say, it’s simply impossible not to misbehave on such a bike, even if only once in your life.

Estimated cost

Of course, it’s difficult to perceive the Yamaha Tricker 250 as a full-fledged road motorcycle; rather, it is another opportunity for the owner to have fun.

But this is exactly what it is designed for, so this motorcycle has found worthy use among extreme sports enthusiasts.

This motorcycle is now almost never found at official dealers , although its production continues.

But you can find it on the secondary market , both from early years of production and modern ones.

Its cost on the used market ranges from 155 to 185 thousand rubles.

Let's look at a very popular model of the Yamaha YBR 125 motorcycle, which attracts the attention of many. And what exactly, you will find out from our article.

A scooter model that often wins races

Yamaha XG250 Tricker Review

The motorcycle is relatively low-powered and lightweight. While driving, you can feel its flexible character, light weight and ease of control. This is why this motorcycle is suitable even for a beginner.

This is a universal motorcycle that can please its owner. Due to its small dimensions, it is very maneuverable and comfortable; you can drive between two rows of cars without any problems, since it is quite narrow. You can also easily avoid obstacles without removing your feet from the footrests. The developers also provided space for a passenger.

When driving off-road, the suspension and wheelbase will show their positive qualities, which allow you to lift the front wheel, jump, maneuver and be in a stable position. Grass, sand, slides, holes, snow and ice are no problem.

However, it is worth considering that this model is not intended for long trips. This is due to the small gas tank and the inconvenience of the saddle. It is also not suitable for road racing due to its low power.

First in bike production

Yamaha is a world-famous Japanese brand that produces motorcycles, snowmobiles, boats, and speedboats. Initially, they were engaged in the manufacture of musical instruments, then components for aircraft. But after the Second World War, the need for small-sized vehicles with a motor began to increase. It was decided to form a subsidiary, which was refocused on these products. He gained popularity due to the quality of his technology. Now the concern is one of the leaders in production in this area.

Yamaha-Ostrovtsy, the official dealer of the company, presents a wide range of this brand. Everyone will find a machine to their liking: street fighters, cruisers, tourers, road bikes, sport bikes, motocross bikes, enduro bikes.

Let's focus on two types from the whole variety: Yamaha YBR 125, Yamaha Fazer 250. Each of them has a lot of advantages and has its own buyer.

Chassis and brakes

The frame of this machine is made of steel. It looks sophisticated thanks to the efforts and taste of the designers. Probably, this bike can be called, without any exaggeration, one of the most beautiful lightweight enduros. Everything in it is verified, from the steering wheel typical for the class to the neat spoked wheels. Thanks to all the design delights, the XT 250 Serow looks not just modern, but futuristic.

At the rear of this model, the suspension role is played by a pendulum version with a monoshock absorber. At the front there is a telescopic fork with dimensions of 35 mm. The rear brake for the motorcycle is a disc with a diameter of 203 mm together with a single-piston caliper. At the front, the bike brakes thanks to a 245 mm disc along with a two-piston caliper.

Pros and cons of Racer Fighter 250

Advantages

  • Affordable price. At least the Racer Fighter 250 looks more expensive than you might expect by looking at it.
  • Reliability. Minor shortcomings, of course, are present, but the main components, such as the gearbox, gearbox and chassis, do not cause any complaints.
  • Ergonomics. Everything is thought out and brought to mind - levers, switches, dashboard and other little things.
  • Exhaust sound. It's surprisingly decent, especially for a small-capacity model.
  • Maneuverability. The Racer Fighter handles excellently, thanks to its thoughtful weight distribution and compact dimensions.

Flaws

  • Standard tires. According to reviews from the owners of the Racer Fighter 250, it does not hold the road well, and it is advisable to replace it after purchase.
  • Build quality. You have to independently correct everything that the Chinese did not do properly.
  • Headlight. It shines weakly, and at night on unlit roads it is frankly not enough.
  • Spare parts. Sometimes some of them are not so easy to find on sale, and not everything from other Chinese bikes fits on the Racer Fighter.

YBR 125th

This is a small bike for moving through city streets with heavy traffic. It is recommended for purchase by beginners in order to master the principles of driving.

The mechanism is convenient and unpretentious. It is characterized by the following technical features:

  • four-stroke engine, with a camshaft on top, power - 10 horsepower, at 124 cc. cm volume;
  • maximum speed - 110 km/h;
  • transmission - manual, 5 gears;
  • compression ratio - 10:1;
  • gasoline supply through the carburetor;
  • electric starter plant;
  • tank volume - 13 liters;
  • consumption per 100 km - 3 l.

The design is extremely simple and reliable, all faults are detected quickly and eliminated effectively. Spare parts can be easily purchased from dealers at reasonable prices.

Diagonal frame, steel wheels, low weight, compactness (length 1985 mm, width 745 mm, height 1080 mm) increase handling. The driver has a wide seat upholstered in leather. The instrument panel is clearly visible thanks to LED backlighting. It is called safe and reliable. The stopping process occurs using a hydraulic disc brake. If necessary, the steering rack is locked with a key.

For off-road driving, the rear wheels are equipped with shock absorbers to improve traction. If you install tires with a stronger tread, this will also improve its performance. An economical urban option in terms of fuel and lubricant costs. For example, a full tank can last up to 350 km. A relatively inexpensive sample is used as a training model for beginners to master control of a bike. Those who already feel confident behind the wheel will appreciate the calm, smooth movement.

Summary

There is no hint of budget here, there is sufficient power, the fuel tank capacity is enough for at least 350 km. Even today, this “device” is capable of leaving behind most bikes of the same class.

This is one of the latest small cc motorcycles and the word quality is synonymous with it. Despite the shortcomings in the form of a low-resource and “strangled” engine and sluggish brakes, this motorcycle is ideal for those who are just discovering the world of high-speed motorcycles. Thanks to the FZX 250, you will significantly improve your riding and bike repair skills.
