Review of the motorcycle Honda Shadow (Honda Shadow) VT 750C

Japanese motorcyclesHonda motorcycles

Realizing in the early 80s that the American motor market was extremely promising, but at the same time somewhat specific, the Japanese company Honda launched a line of motorcycles aimed specifically at this market.

This line is called Shadow.

Motorcycles in the Shadow line belonged to the “cruiser” class and had a classic American appearance, the standard of which was Harley Davidson.

Model history

Initially, the Shadow line, which the Japanese company offered to Americans, consisted of only two models - the Honda Shadow VT500C and Shadow VT750C.

These motorcycles appeared in 1983. The first of them was equipped with a 500 cc V-twin OHC engine, the second had a volume of 750 cc. cm.

This engine was also V-shaped, V-Twin SOHC.

The following year, after the Honda Shadow appeared on the market, American legislation increased duties on imported motorcycles larger than 700 cc.

As a result, production of the Shadow VT 750C model “stalled” for many years.

At the same time, the Shadow line itself expanded, and quite significantly.

During production, models with engines from 400 to 1100 cc were produced.

But the Shadow model with a 750 cc engine was remembered only in 2000, but this model was already aimed at the European consumer.

The Honda VT 750 Shadow, released in 1983, had the classic American cruiser style. The model was produced in two colors: black and caramel red.

Although, the red color is only a convention, since only the tank and side glove compartments were red on the motorcycle. The engine and frame were painted black.

Many elements of the motorcycle were chrome-plated : the front fork and fender, dashboard, headlight, exhaust pipes.

The engine of the motorcycle was equipped with water cooling, and the gas distribution mechanism implied the presence of three valves for each cylinder. The Shadow VT750C had a 6-speed gearbox, and the rear wheel was driven by a cardan.

In 2000, the successor to the first Shadow VT750C was a model with a slightly different name - Honda VT750DC Black Widow, aka “Black Widow”.

Although the name is different, the “widow” is still a Shadow VT750C, but with a slightly modified appearance. This motorcycle was already more like a “chopper” .

In 2007, another model with 750 cc engines appeared in the line, but the Shadow prefix was added to the name of these models.

First came the VT750DC Shadow Spirit, followed by the VT750DC Shadow Black Spirit. These models are still produced today .

The differences from the first 750 cc Shadow among contemporaries mainly concern the appearance, although there are also changes in the technical part.

Now these motorcycles are already 5-speed , the power system has also changed - carburetors have been replaced with an electronic injection system.

But in general, the concept of the motorcycle itself remained the same - many chrome parts, including the engine, low seating, drop-shaped tank.

And only the VT750DC Shadow Black Spirit model is distinguished by almost no chrome, it is almost all black.

The Yamaha Jog scooter is created entirely in the spirit of sports motorcycles. The graphics here are spectacular, and the body elements have a unique racing manner.

When you first look at this motorcycle, you'll notice its sporty, low-slung stance. The engineers did a good job.

Honda Shadow 750

Those who love motorcycles will certainly appreciate the Honda Shadow 750 model. It belongs to the “cruiser” class. Externally similar to the American Harley Davidson.

The bike is not only convenient to use, but also brings aesthetic pleasure. The shiny finish of the front suspension and chrome wheels will immediately catch your eye. Most importantly, the motorcycle is reliable.

A little history of the Honda Shadow 750

The Shadow model appeared in the 80s. The line was developed by a Japanese company, and motorcycles were produced for Europe, North America and Japan. Models were released - Honda Shadow VT500C and Honda Shadow VT750C. They had V-shaped engines.

A year after the launch of Shadow on the American market, the government decided to increase the size of the state tax on the import of bikes whose volume was more than 700 cubic meters. Because of this, the VT750C model was discontinued, but the line began to expand.

The VT750C model reappeared in 2000. It was aimed at European countries.

Honda Shadow 750 , which was produced in the 80s, was made in black and red colors. The tank and glove compartments on the sides were red, and the engine and frame were black.

The engine was water-cooled, had a six-speed gearbox, and the drive was a cardan drive.

The 2000 version became known as the Honda VT750DC Black Widow. Having changed the name, the motorcycle remained virtually unchanged.

Since 2007, the VT750DC Shadow Spirit and VT750 DC Shadow Black Spirit have been produced.

The appearance of the motorcycles has changed, and the developers have made some technical changes. They have a five-speed gearbox, and instead of a carburetor, the creators made an electronic injection system.

The motorcycles still have the same superbly crafted finish and low-slung stance. Black Spirit distinguished himself. Judging by the name, we can conclude that it is made in black.

Technical data Honda Shadow 750

The frame of the Honda Shadow 750 is tubular. A cooling radiator, which was there before, is mounted in front of it. The front suspension is a telescopic fork, and the rear suspension consists of two shock absorbers.

In the first version, the developers attached the dashboard next to the steering wheel. Now it is on the tank.

Conveniences were also created for passengers on the first Shadow - a special supporting backrest. In the new line it remains on Shadow Spirit.

The saddle height for Spirit is 650 mm, and for Black Spirit it is 652 mm.

The ground clearance is the same for both models – 130 mm.

Their starting system is no different. She's a starter. The number of gears is 5. They have a cardan drive.

Despite the capacity of the fuel tank, it is quite economical.

The engine works in any weather. Even the heat is not scary for him.

The power of the bike is excellent. The engine's acceleration is explosive and won't fade with use.

Buyers will enjoy the combined anti-lock braking system, which provides true driving pleasure.

You can drive on any roads. The motorcycle will travel both around the city and outside the city. Even dear villagers are not afraid of him.

Over the years, not only the appearance of the Honda Shadow 750 has changed, but also its technical characteristics, but, of course, this motorcycle deserves attention.

What is the price range?

Bikes in this line are not cheap. Moreover, if a new model is purchased, the buyer will have to pay more than 800 thousand rubles. The cost of Black Shadow will be even higher - 825 thousand. But they are worth it due to their characteristics.

The long absence of 750 cc motorcycles from the market due to the introduction of duties did not affect demand among buyers. There are plenty of such models on the secondary market.

Prices for aftermarket motorcycles can not be found very high, since the year of production, technical characteristics and appearance must be taken into account. It is unlikely that anyone will want to shell out the sum of 800 thousand for an old, shabby motorcycle, which, moreover, can stall in the middle of the road. Therefore, you can buy a model here even for 100 thousand rubles. The price range varies up to 600 thousand.

Despite the fact that the Honda Shadow 750 were used, some were perfectly preserved. Fans will appreciate the appearance, the roar of the engine, and excellent technical characteristics at a relatively low cost.

Estimated cost

The 750 cc motorcycles of the legendary Shadow line were undeservedly forgotten at one time , without really having time to “light up” due to some duties.

But time has passed and this motorcycle is again in this line.

You can now find new 750 cc motorcycles in the Shadow line at dealers. But they won't be very cheap.

For the VT750DC Shadow Spirit model you will have to pay a little more than 800,000 rubles. And the VT750DC Shadow Black Spirit model will cost even more, about 825,000 rubles.

Despite the long period in which a motorcycle with an engine of this size was not produced, this model is still quite common and there are more than enough offers for it on the secondary market.

The prices for it are very varied , since the cost takes into account technical equipment. condition and performance of the motorcycle, its year of production.

So, on the secondary market, a Honda Shadow with a 750 cc engine. cm can be found with a price from 100,000 to 600,000 rubles.

Good afternoon, motorcycle brothers and sisters. I’ve been wanting to write my first post for a long time and now I’m ready. Today we will talk about the beginning of the journey. Mine and my mot. So, briefly about the main thing: 1) The first 100 km 2) The first trip along the ring road 3) The first fall. For those who are interested, please see below... The purchase history is quite simple and uninteresting. Since childhood I dreamed of motorcycles, but by the will of fate my life passed away from motorcycles. And I saw them only in pictures and on the street when they rushed past. But this year, on my twenty-eighth birthday, I decided to give myself a gift and buy my first moto. For some time I studied forums and websites dedicated to motorcycle topics, talked with experienced people, and then a few days before my birthday I went to the salon. I planned to go around all the showrooms in the city that day, look at all the motorcycles and decide on the choice “on the spot.” But by chance it turned out that the Honda Kudrovo salon was the first and last visited. As soon as I saw him I knew it was him. It was the only one in the salon in such a fiery color, and although there were other models and trunks, backs and windows, a significant discount and an unusual color did the trick. Plus, I was given a Suomy Apex helmet, which I will review later. Next was a boring trip to the MREO on a motorcycle tow truck, because... I didn’t have a category “A” license at that time. I registered and received the numbers without any problems. The motor is new, mileage 0 km. I signed up for a motorcycle school, graduated... However, this is also a separate story and requires a separate post.

So, day “X”, to be honest, after a Yobrik it was a little scary to get on such a device, but after a couple of kilometers I realized that this device has nothing in common with a Yobrik. Despite its weight and size, it is very easy to control. I was very pleased with the dynamics. It starts off very smoothly and at the same time is capable of squeezing out a hundred very quickly, I haven’t measured it, but most of the canned goods are clearly smoking on the sidelines. I understand that this is not a sport and not even a liter, but it accelerates really very quickly, only I have time to shift up gears. At speed it is very stable, at least definitely much more stable than a Yobrik, although I have not yet learned on the most shaky one. The engine sound is very pleasant, even at high speeds more like a bass roar. Moving along the roundabout, I laid the bike down too much and ended up scratching the left footrest on the asphalt - sadness and melancholy, well, at least it’s not so noticeable. Having left the Ring Road and reached the dam, I decided to see what he was capable of. I unscrewed it all the way, I must admit that the speedometer needle reached “140” very quickly. I decided not to drive further - a strong headwind, and lack of experience, hinted to me to be careful. Again about the dynamics - even after 110 the speed picks up very confidently, and although I only accelerated to 140, I felt that it could easily move even faster without problems. Caught up with a thundercloud. Wet asphalt, flying splashes. The equipment quickly got wet and it became cold. I decided to stop, take a break and take a photo.

I went back the same route. There were road repairs along the way, so we had to try to maneuver at speed in heavy traffic, and again the bike performed excellently. Perfectly obeys the steering wheel. I got almost home and decided to stop by the contactless self-service car wash in the underground parking lot to wash up. He washed himself and washed off all the dirt that had stuck to him on the ring. Mot sparkled pleasantly. I was leaving the car wash and then I was unsuccessful, leaving the car wash was a 90-degree turn, downhill, and wet concrete with sand... In general, I don’t know how it happened, but leaving the car wash I crashed. At a speed of about 4 km/h. I jump up. There’s a stream of obscene language in my head, I pick up the phone and sit down. I press the starter button - it doesn’t start, again - the same result. Panic in my head. I turn on neutral, turn off the ignition, turn on, press the button - the engine starts purring pleasantly again. I start, drive out of the parking lot into the bright sun and stop to inspect the “losses.” Well, I escaped with little blood. A couple of nicks on the silencer (almost invisible), the right footrest is damaged, now symmetrically with the left one, which was peeled off abruptly at the beginning of the trip, and also a couple of nicks on the front brake foot. Dirty mark on pants and sleeve. Phew... I called my wife, she and her son are on the lake, sunbathing, swimming, calling to them. At first I wanted to leave the moto in the garage and go on foot, but it was a long walk and decided to ride the moto. The dirt road is about a kilometer long, all rutted and broken, with a lot of oncoming and passing cars, people going here and there. The moto is not an enduro at all, but on the broken dirt road it was very easy and relaxed to maneuver between the cars. The video of the American motorcycle battalion helped - the clutch was in the gray zone, a little gas on the brakes and everything was ok. There are concrete pillars dug in front of the lake itself - no matter how cars drive, the distance is small, but I drove through without any problems. I returned to the garage in the evening. Tanned, swam, having driven exactly 100 km, 2 of which on a dirt road (there and back) with a lot of impressions, both positive and slightly negative. Regarding the fall, we study and study again and our equipment is everything. Yes, yes, I understand that Boyan hasn’t bought all the equipment yet.

Thanks to everyone who read, don’t kick me too hard - this is still my first post...

Almost perfect bike. It's a pity that it costs crazy money. I haven’t been able to save up for something like this for a year now. I'll have to take a boo-shka. I really really want this model

I bought one for myself in 2014 (albeit a used one from 2008) the motor is good, reliable, handling is at a high level both in the city and on the highway. But there is a lack of dynamics when overtaking; every overtaking is a well-thought-out maneuver. In the city everything is normal from traffic light to traffic light, but on a long drive it’s hard. I drove 400 km at a time, I can’t feel any more fatigue, but overtaking trucks is a quest =). You can, of course, install a nulevik filter, the correct exhaust and a power commander, this will improve the situation, but for the money invested you can get more money. My opinion is that a cruiser (chopper) should be larger than a liter. And the Shadovka 750 is a good car as the first training car.
