Just about the complex: Delta moped wiring diagram

What does a city dweller need to feel free and escape from the bustle of the city into nature? That's right, a two-wheeled friend that can take the owner not only on asphalt roads, but also over rough terrain. And best of all, Delta mopeds from China cope with this role, which delight with their bright design and ease of maintenance.

This appearance immediately attracts everyone's interest

The moped has lost spark, what should I do?

Very often the reason that the engine does not start is the lack of a spark at the spark plug. This is diagnosed very simply:

  • you need to unscrew the spark plug from the engine (or take a spare one),
  • put a candle cap on it,
  • turn on the ignition,
  • press the spark plug to ground
  • crank the engine with the starter, or better yet, with the kickstarter.

If a spark does not jump between the electrodes of the spark plug, the engine will not start.

But fortunately, the ignition system on Alpha mopeds is quite simple and you can find the fault on your own.

I always try to follow the principle “from simple to complex” when troubleshooting. That is, before disassembling half of the moped, you need to try to check everything that is easy and cheap to check.

First, remember what preceded the malfunction: some work may have been carried out or there may have been mechanical damage (for example, the moped fell). If something like this happened, start troubleshooting from there. There is a high probability that upon inspection you will find a broken wire, damaged insulation, a damaged connector, or something else.

Be sure to try cranking the engine with a kickstarter; it happens that the starter turns too slowly and there is no spark.

Spark plug, high-voltage wire, tip

Next on the list is the spark plug. It happens that an apparently serviceable spark plug does not work, so it is better to immediately replace the spark plug with a known serviceable one. Even if the spark plug was in good working order, it’s okay, spark plugs are “consumables”.

Be sure to take a spark plug recommended by the moped manufacturer, or its complete analogue, selected from the catalog. Do not listen to “experts” who recommend non-standard spark plugs, for example, with an increased gap or three electrodes.

If the spark plug is working but there is no spark, check the tip of the spark plug and the high-voltage wire. There should be no mechanical damage or cracks on them.

Ignition coil

If everything looks intact, check the ignition coil. To do this, disconnect it (remembering how the wires are connected) and use a multimeter to check the resistance of the windings.

The primary winding is made of thicker copper wire. Its terminals are connected to two terminal connectors at the end of the coil. It has a small number of turns and therefore its resistance is low, approximately 0.5-5 Ohms. One wire of the coil is connected to ground - you need to check it, attach one multimeter probe to the nearest metal part of the moped, and the second to the coil connector. The resistance should be close to zero.

The high-voltage coil consists of several thousand turns of very thin copper wire, so its resistance should be on the order of 2-5 kOhms. The resistance must be measured between the coil contact connected to ground and the core of the high-voltage wire.

In this way, we will check the coil for a break, but without special equipment we cannot check for other coil faults, for example, an interturn short circuit, so we will leave the coil alone for now, also because a coil without visible mechanical damage is most likely working.

Switch

To check the switch, we need a test lamp - this is a regular 12-volt light bulb with wires routed out for easy connection. A test light and connect one end to the ground wire, the other to the ignition coil wire. We turn the engine with the starter.

If the light comes on, the switch and its wiring are working properly. If the light does not light, then the switch or switch wiring is faulty. In order to be 100% sure that the problem is not with the switch, I recommend replacing it with a known good one. A switch for Chinese mopeds is inexpensive, if it suddenly turns out that the old switch is working, let it remain in “stock” until the next check.

Features of electrical equipment

The wiring to the Delta and all electrical equipment is quite traditional.

It consists of:

  • generator with flywheel;
  • electric starter (with relay);
  • ignition coils;
  • electronic voltage relay;
  • spark plug;
  • battery;
  • electronic switch;
  • ignition switch;
  • turn relay.

This list is quite understandable to most motorists who have experience in servicing domestic equipment. Moreover, the wiring of the Delta moped is traditional - 12-volt, with a minus to ground.

Generator and ignition sensor

You can check the generator and sensor without removing them from the engine.

We switch the tester to the AC measurement mode for the 2V range or, if your tester has such an option, for 200mV. With one probe we touch any metal part of the scooter or engine, with the other probe we touch the sensor wire (in the picture above it is labeled as a Hall sensor, but in fact it is an inductive ignition sensor). We turn the engine with the starter and look at the multimeter display. If the numbers are flashing on the display, it means the sensor is generating a signal and everything is fine with it. Otherwise, the sensor is faulty or the wire is broken.

If you know easier ways to check or something is not described in sufficient detail, write in the comments. I will be glad to improve the article based on your feedback.

Valuable advice

It is no secret that the insulation of the wires is made of cheap plastic and it is better to replace the insulation with rubber before it crumbles after a few rains. The two networks in Chinese motorcycles do not intersect, therefore, when disassembling the power supply of the on-board network of the electric starter, headlights, turn signals and stop, you should remember several points:

  • The green wire is always ground or, as it is also called, ground.
  • Pink and yellow (two yellows) come from the generator, where there is still alternating current.
  • Blue comes from an impulse from a magnetic sensor.
  • Black and red – battery power.

They all go into a big black rope. The colors are fixed and it’s easier to remember what they belong to than to have to decide for a long time where they come from and where they go. There are two main coils: under the steering wheel and next to the battery, under the shield. If next to the battery you can still determine what is coming from where, then under the steering wheel the wiring of the Alpha moped begins to resemble Narnia: everything is lost there and the colors change. Wiring from this point spreads throughout the motorcycle, providing power.

Reasons why the spark disappeared on the Alpha moped

Mopeds made in China break down quite often, this depends not only on poor-quality parts, it is important to operate the moped correctly and monitor the condition of its parts. But many owners of Alpha mopeds are faced with a problem when their vehicle simply does not start. After reviewing most of the possible causes, the owner notices that there is no spark on the moped. Without a spark, the moped will not start, and there can be several reasons for the breakdown. Most of the reasons are quite banal and lie in minor breakdowns, but if all the steps below do not help, you will have to completely rebuild the moped or take it to a specialist. Diagnosis of lack of spark is carried out in several procedures below.

Checking the generator and its windings

It is the generator that allows you to produce a spark, so if the spark on the alpha moped disappears, look at the generator. First of all, look at all the contacts and wires adjacent to the generator. They can be either bare or broken off. After checking the contacts, diagnose condensates; they should work correctly on all mopeds.

In some cases, mechanical damage to the generator is possible; to do this, you will have to carefully inspect the winding for defects. If a problem is identified, it will be easier to replace the generator with a new one.

Moped maintenance

Like any vehicle, Alpha mopeds require routine maintenance, the essence of which boils down to:

  1. Replacement of parts and assemblies whose service life has expired;
  2. Setting up and restoring the factory parameters of the main components and assemblies;
  3. Visual inspection of the moped to identify damage.

Chinese engines quite confidently “maintain” 20,000 km on our domestic fuels and lubricants without breakdowns or overhaul of the piston group. The main thing is to change the oil in a timely manner, especially during the break-in period.

If you do not operate the moped in harsh conditions (winter, cross-country racing, etc.), then all oil seals and rubber seals will also last a long time.

Tip: Change your air filter often. This will save the carburetor and make it easier to start the engine in all operating modes.

Ignition coil

And finally, the last, but one of the most important reasons for the lack of a spark, is the ignition coil, or rather its breakdown. With the proper knowledge, you will have to check the functionality of the ignition coil; to do this, you need to connect a low-power light bulb to it, which should check the current supply from the coil.

In most cases, you can fix the lack of a spark yourself; fortunately, the design of mopeds such as Alpha is quite simple, the design is created in such a way that all parts are visible and can be quickly replaced. Also, the cost of spare parts for Alpha mopeds is low, which is a big plus. But if you cannot find the cause of the breakdown yourself, we recommend turning to professionals.

  • After work we were going to go home, but my friend’s moped didn’t start. He unscrewed the spark plug, there was no spark, replaced it with another one, the same result. Since it was one o’clock in the morning, he pushed his moped to my garage, and I drove him home ( he lives in a neighboring village). In the morning I decided to see what the reason was. First, I checked all the contacts, then I rang the armor wire with a multimeter, then I changed the coil (I have it in stock). There was still no spark, then I changed the switch (I removed it from my moped) , but the spark never appeared. But when I checked, the current from the armored wire began to flow and I decided to try to install my own spark plug, as it turned out the whole problem was in the chip from the switch, the contacts went loose there, but when the spark disappeared, the owner changed the spark plug to a non-sparking one working. His second spare one was also not working. In the end, of course, I found a malfunction, but it could have been found faster. I concluded for myself that in any case it is necessary to check the functionality of the spark plug (even if they only installed another one before your eyes)) ), well, the owner didn’t draw any conclusions and I’m waiting for him again in my garage soon))). Naturally, not everything was included in the video, since it would have turned out to be a very long video, so I had to cut something out.

hello, I hope you can help me, I changed the central wiring on the alpha moped, I also changed the spark plug in the place with the armor wire and I have no sparks and the current doesn’t flow anywhere except from the ignition coil and that’s all what could be the reason

damn what to do please tell me I was riding an alpha 71kb moped and it started to stall and stalled and would not start again and I changed the spark plug and cleaned the corberator and it still did not start. And when you start it with your foot, sometimes it can shoot out of the pipe. Please tell me how to make a moped

Dmitry If the carburetor is in order and there is a spark, but the moped does not start, look at the valve head.

I can't start, can you help me?)

Why the hell are there extraneous sounds on the video, and so essentially nothing is said, so there are also extraneous sounds on the video.

Thank you very much helped

Where are you, I'll get you a motorcycle

Hello, how much does it cost to put a step on an Alfa moped?

Hello, I wanted to ask you, so I bought a 50 cc engine from an Alpha or Delta! And what do I need to buy to start it, what kind of wiring, so that it just starts from the kickstarter, basically from the stand!

Hello, I have such a problem. In the left cover, the coil was screwed onto 2 bolts, it turned out that 1 bolt was unscrewed and broke inside, there is a small hole on the magnet. I replaced the generator coil, ignition coil, and switch. Still no spark. Don't know what the problem is?

Denis, I have a spark, but it’s weak (it seems so to me). When starting with electric ignition, there is no such a confident sound (grinding), but a barely audible scrolling of the coil. What could this be?

Please tell me why there is no spark at the spark plug? I replaced the ignition coil, switch, and generator with new ones, still no =(.

I have the same problem((

Most likely the central wire (which fits the spark plug) needs to be replaced.

I have the same problem

Hello, I have a Trophy moped, such a problem happened when I turn on the turn signals they don’t blink and the dashboard doesn’t show that they are working either, what’s the matter, did I change the turn signals, maybe something wrong with the electronics?

Most likely the turn signal relay has failed.

Scooter generator. Operating principle and diagnostics

The scooter's generator is a key component of the entire electrical system of the scooter, because it is it that generates the electricity necessary for its operation. Modern scooters are equipped with many different devices and components that consume electricity. Thus, the scooter’s generator ensures the operation of the headlights, ignition system, dimensions, etc. In addition, the scooter's generator also charges the battery, which in turn powers the electric starter when starting the engine.

The principle of operation of a scooter generator is extremely simple; at its core, it is the most ordinary Magdino with a flywheel. Magdino (magneto plus dynamo machine) differs from a simple magneto in that it has two windings installed on it, which differ in voltage, while a magneto has only one winding installed. Installing two windings instead of one significantly reduces the load on the system and thereby increases its reliability and service life. So the high-voltage winding generates electricity, which is used to operate the scooter’s ignition system, while the low-voltage winding, which is also often called an inductance coil or a “light” coil, ensures the operation of headlights, dimensions, battery charging, etc. The voltage of the coil depends on the number of turns in the winding; the more turns, the higher the voltage.

The generation of electricity itself occurs due to electromagnetic induction. The crankshaft rotates a flywheel with permanent magnets around the coils, as a result of which the magnetic field inside the windings changes all the time and thus the required voltage is inducted. Interestingly, since the scooter's generator is a magdino, the magnetic armatures around the ignition winding and the light winding can even rotate at different speeds. Around the ignition coil directly on the crankshaft, and around the light coil through a special gear “raise”.

As you might have guessed, a scooter's generator can only produce alternating current. While many devices require direct current to operate. In particular, the battery can only be charged from constant voltage.

In short, direct current is a simple directional flow of electrons that moves from one pole to the other, while in alternating current the electrons constantly change direction. In order to convert alternating current into direct current, special diode rectifiers are used on the scooter. Roughly speaking, a diode allows electrons to flow in only one direction, thus converting alternating current into direct current. Thanks to diode rectifiers, a scooter generator can power any device, regardless of what type of current the device needs.

Since the voltage supplied by the scooter generator varies depending on the crankshaft speed, for the normal operation of all devices and components of the scooter, a voltage regulator is needed. As a rule, this unit is combined with a diode rectifier. But on older scooters and mopeds, a separate relay may be used as a voltage regulator. Typically, a scooter's generator produces excess voltage, both at low and high speeds, which must be “cut off”, otherwise all the electrical appliances on the scooter can very easily burn out. The scooter's generator produces voltage, as if with a reserve, so that it is definitely enough for the normal functioning of the entire electrical system of the scooter. However, it should be understood that when installing some new equipment on a scooter or, for example, replacing a standard headlight with a more powerful one, the voltage generated by the scooter's generator may not be sufficient for the normal operation of the new device. In this case, you should either refuse to install new equipment at all, or sacrifice something else, if possible. You can also try installing a more powerful scooter generator, with more turns.

How to diagnose a scooter generator

As mentioned above, the scooter generator provides the robot with almost all systems of the scooter, since every node is tied to it in one way or another. Fortunately, the scooter generator is an extremely simple device and therefore breaks down quite rarely. But because of this, many both beginners and experienced scooter riders, when it breaks down, almost never check the condition of the scooter’s generator and look for faults only in what they consider to be vulnerable components: spark plugs, battery and wiring. Having not found a problem there, such scooter riders often throw up their hands and never think to check the scooter’s generator.

However, it should be said right away that in order to properly check a scooter’s generator, you need to have at least a little understanding of electronics, understand the essence of such concepts as “voltage” and “resistance,” and also be able to use a multimeter (tester) at least a little. If you have these necessary skills, then performing a diagnosis will not be so difficult.

First, you should understand what problems can arise with the generator. And there are only three possible breakdowns: wire breakage or burnout, loss of magnetic properties of the magnets on the flywheel, and short circuit.

The magnetism of the rotor can drop as a result of a strong impact or fall (permanent magnets lose their magnetic qualities under strong physical impact), as well as when left for a long time near a source of a strong magnetic field. In addition, permanent magnets lose their properties simply from old age. The loss of magnetization leads to a significant decrease in the output voltage produced by the scooter's generator. Checking the output voltage is very simple, just disconnect the scooter's generator from the rest of the electronics by removing the connectors, and measure with the engine running; connect a tester instead of the connectors. At minimum speed, the voltage should not be less than 5 Volts.

After checking the voltage, you should also remember to check the resistance of the circuit that powers the generator winding. For most scooter models, the normal alternator coil resistance value is in the range from 80 to 150 Ohms. If the resistance is below normal, then this indicates that the turns are most likely shorted on the winding. This will lead to overheating of the coil and a drop in voltage, so when the circuit is closed, only part of the winding remains involved in generating current. In principle, this is all that can be checked without dismantling the scooter's generator. If the indicators do not correspond to the norm, then dress up and undergo a deeper check. So the scooter generator will have to be removed and the coil itself checked directly with a tester. If it turns out that its resistance is within normal limits, then it is most likely that the problem is in the wiring or at the junction of the coil and the wiring. If checking the wiring does not reveal any problems and the scooter’s generator is fully operational, then there is a ninety percent chance that the problem is in the ignition unit. Which is not the topic of this article.

There is no spark on the moped - what to do?

Failure of a motorcycle ignition system can be caused by a variety of reasons, ranging from small and insignificant to serious ones requiring major repairs of the vehicle. Fortunately, bikes are technologically relatively simple (compared to cars) and you can fix the breakdown yourself. Very often, the reason for the incorrect operation of the ignition system is that there is simply no spark on the motorcycle. In this case, it is necessary to accurately identify the part or assembly that led to the breakdown.

    Spark Plug Inspection

If there is no spark on a moped or motorcycle, first of all, you need to check the serviceability of the spark plug . It should not be excessively dirty and be of a natural color. If the motorcycle owner has a 100% serviceable spark plug on hand, then test the operation of the ignition system with its help.

Checking the battery charge

It happens that the loss of spark on a moped or motorcycle is caused by insufficient battery charge. For a 12-volt battery, the acceptable level is at least 9 volts. If the indicator is lower, then the reason for the non-working candle has been identified.

Ignition coil diagnostics

The reason for the loss of spark on a motorcycle can also be a malfunction of the ignition coil. To check the serviceability, you need to use a low-power light bulb to make sure that the current is supplied.

Checking the generator and winding

Why is there no spark on a moped or motorcycle? It could be a faulty generator. First you need to make sure that the adjacent contacts are in working condition. You also need to check the correct operation of the capacitors. In addition to the above, the reason for the loss of spark on a motorcycle may be a defect in the generator winding.

Quite often, the reason for the lack of a spark at the spark plug is the distributor and the wires leading to/from it . First you need to inspect the “coal”. If the cause of the malfunction has not been identified, then you next need to check the high-voltage wires going to the distributor.

Regardless of whether the source of incorrect operation was identified or not, the problem was solved in a few minutes or hours, the owner of a motorcycle (moped) is recommended to visit qualified motorcycle mechanics as soon as possible.

The reason is that there is a high probability of overlooking a more serious defect in the operation of the bike, or even aggravating it.

Ignition circuit components

The ignition system is an important element in the operation of the entire scooter. The formation of a spark and a precisely calculated impulse that ignites the fuel depend on it.

The scooter ignition circuit includes many components that are responsible for a specific job.

CDI ignition module

The first item in the list is the CDI module. This abbreviation stands for Capacitor Discharge Ignition - ignition from a capacitor discharge.

The switch module is made in a non-separable box, so if it fails, it is replaced with a new one. 5 wires are connected to it, distributed throughout the entire ignition circuit of the scooter.

The block is hidden inside the scooter, so getting to it is not easy. The plastic covers will have to be completely dismantled.

Ignition coil

The purpose of this component is a fast pulse of high voltage voltage based on a signal from the switch. It goes directly to the spark plug, where it is converted into a spark.

The coil is located on the right side of the Chinese scooter and is attached to its supporting structure. It is easy to recognize - it is made in the form of a plastic barrel. On the reverse side there is a thick wire connected. It is he who transfers the discharge according to the circuit from the transformer to the spark plug.

To protect against dirt and dust, the coil is placed in a rubber cover.

Spark plug

Its function is simple - to form a spark and ignite the mixture inside the cylinder. The scooter uses an A7TC spark plug.

Its position is hidden from view, but experienced owners know where to look for it. Having passed along the high-voltage wire, we reach the engine block and the spark plug cap.

The rubber seal protects the contact from accidental electrical breakdown. Remove with a little effort towards you. Do not pull the wire too hard - the cap may come off.

The spark plug is unscrewed with a socket wrench. After removal, you need to inspect the color of the contacts and their condition. An indicator of good engine performance is a brown tint without traces of soot. Deviation from the norm indicates a malfunction of the carburetor.

Starter

The device is used to make it easier to start a scooter engine, without using a kick pedal. The starter is located in the middle part of the moped, near the engine. To open it, you need to remove the decorative plastic.

The starter is connected through the starting relay, which is located on the scooter frame.

Fuel gauge and indicator

The sensor measures the amount of gasoline in the tank and signals the need to refuel. It is located in the tank itself and is connected by three wires.

The indicator is directly connected to the sensor. Both are powered by stabilized current from the rectifier. If problems are observed in the operation of the indicator, you should check the connection to the circuit.

Voltage is supplied only when the ignition switch is turned on.

Turns relay

The breaker is used to control the turn lights. When the button is closed, the relay produces current pulses with a frequency of 1 Hz.

The block is located under the instrument panel. To change the relay you need to remove the plastic protection.

Switching the circuit is not difficult. When turning right, voltage flows through the blue wire, which is responsible for the corresponding lamps. The left position of the switch shorts the gray bus to the orange one.

Duplicate lamps on the instrument panel are connected in parallel to the turns circuit lines. They signal that the lamps are on on a specific side of the scooter.

Sound signal

The purpose of the sound horn is clear to everyone. On the scooter it is located near the limiter relay.

The signal is powered by direct current through the ignition switch and is activated by a button on the handlebars of the moped. The component is non-separable, so if it fails, it is completely replaced.

Why is there no spark on the moped?

How to check spark on a moped?

To check the spark you need to turn the key in the ignition. Next, take out the spark plug and check if there is a spark. In order to check the spark on the spark plug, you need:

  1. Remove the cap and unscrew the spark plug. Pay attention to the candle itself, or rather to its black soot; often, if it becomes dense, then it becomes a conductor, i.e. you don't get a spark, but it hits the insulator.
  2. Next, insert the unscrewed spark plug into the cap (holding only the cap) and lean it against any metal part of your moped.
  3. Next, we begin to crank the foot starter and carefully look at the electrodes on the spark plug to see if a spark will jump between them. If suddenly there is no spark in the spark plug, then it may be that the spark plug is broken, i.e. the spark occurs in the wrong place. How can I check this?

Chinese mopeds

Single platform models

Today's realities are such that you can no longer see domestic models on public roads.

Times are changing, and the weakened banner of freedom from the hands of the domestic “Carpathians” and “Verkhovyna” was picked up by Chinese mopeds of the following series:

Let us state a fact: products from China have become widespread in the domestic motorcycle market.

  • Alpha;
  • Delta (DELTA);
  • Dino;
  • Irbis;
  • Viper (VIPER);
  • Zip Star;
  • Leader;
  • Mustang;
  • Breeze;
  • Dingo;

and other similar models, equipped with everything necessary for travel. These are all Delta “co-platforms” produced by the Chinese manufacturer Chongqing Wonjan motorcycle and the companies that bought a license from it.

For reference: It should be noted that Chinese technology has significantly displaced the products of domestic motorcycle manufacturers on the Russian market. This is noticeable not only in the form of finished products, but also in all kinds of components. For example, the Kovrov Motor Plant abandoned its own production of power units and installed the Lifan engine on its models.

Similarity of design

It is noteworthy that the electrical wiring of the Delta moped is similar to other models, which facilitates maintenance and increases the popularity of the vehicles.

Although seemingly complex at first glance, the electrical connection diagram is quite traditional.

Note! The photo above shows the wiring diagram for a Delta moped that does not have a tachometer on the instrument panel. It is identical for all models of this manufacturer, and differs only in the control of the semi-automatic transmission (Delta Racer model).

The video in this article will provide information regarding maintenance of similar models. For products with an instrument panel containing a tachometer, we publish part of the diagram, which also has differences in the controls. In this case, the wiring for the Delta moped is supplemented with several elements for connection.

The photo shows part of the electrical circuit of the Delta model with a tachometer

No spark on alpha moped

Mopeds made in China break down quite often, this depends not only on poor-quality parts, it is important to operate the moped correctly and monitor the condition of its parts. But many owners of Alpha mopeds are faced with a problem when their vehicle simply does not start. After reviewing most of the possible causes, the owner notices that there is no spark on the moped.

Spark plug diagnostics

In most cases, a spark on an Alpha moped does not appear precisely because of the spark plug; this is a consumable part that often breaks. Therefore, first of all, we check the spark plug for external defects. The candle may overheat or simply outlive its useful life; there may be cracks in the ceramic or other damage. Also carefully inspect the candle for its color; it should be clean and free of carbon deposits. The problem can be solved simply - just buy a new spark plug.

Battery

When using a battery, a weak spark may occur on the alpha moped, or it may simply disappear due to insufficient charge. The moped owner should always monitor the battery charge level; most Alpha moped batteries have a 12-volt battery, so when checked, the device should show at least 9 volts. Indicators below this mark indicate a failure of the battery, which in turn does not produce a spark at the spark plug.

Checking the distributor

The distributor is a common reason for the lack of spark on a moped, so if the above parts are working, we check the distributor and the wires leading to it. Sometimes a defect is noticed on high-voltage wires that lead to the distributor, so inspect their external condition.

Please note that the provided electrical wiring diagrams do not differ significantly: they all show the starter, generator, ignition switch and other electrical equipment components. Differences may be in DC or AC lighting power supply, etc. , regardless of the model. For example, Alpha 110 mopeds that are identical in appearance may have slightly different wiring.

Generators can also be different:

  • 2-coil (tachometer with two wires)
  • 6-coil (three-wire tachometer)

As a result, the relay regulators will differ.

However, any electrical wiring diagram for the Alpha and Delta moped given above will be useful when repairing and tuning the electrical connections of the scooter.
