HYOSUNG GD250R

Hyosung GD250R

Sportsbike with single-cylinder engine

The Korean company Hyosung has been persistently trying to enter our market for a long time. So far, all their success stories, if any, have lasted very short. A total of 10 models were produced and not a single one fired. You can blame their marketing department for the lack of hype.

But without abandoning their idea, Hyosung staged a rescue mission and created its own platform for small-capacity motorcycles. The first iteration was the Hyosung GD250R. A sportbike with a single-cylinder engine is aimed at the “plastic” motorcycle segment.

We saw the HYOSUNG GD250R at EICMA Milan a couple of years ago. The motorcycle didn't attract any significant attention back then, and frankly, we didn't understand why. Next he stood at the Long Beach IMS booth. If you look at the motorcycle in person, faith in it returns.

Appearance of HYOSUNG GD250R

Hyosung GD250R gives a fresh look at the “broken” design inherent in competing models. Sharp, aggressive lines give the motorcycle its own feature. Designed to compete with other 250s, the Hyosung GD250R clearly challenges other manufacturers in terms of design.

Lensed light framed with LED lights is installed. It looks like a cross between a Yamaha Fazer and a Triumph Daytona 675. It has a large windshield mounted higher up and rear view mirrors mounted on the front fascia. The 5.8-inch LCD screen with adjustable brightness is a very cool touch.

There are interesting edges on the sides, as if made with a chisel. This, however, gives the sportbike a proper fighting look. All the rest of the plastic is also beautifully molded and slightly reveals the red tubular frame, which goes well with the entire color palette. The rear shock absorber is not hidden in any way, just like the stainless steel muffler. Looks very trendy if you ask us.

The large and upward-sloping fuel tank gives the motorcycle the appearance of a more cubic-sized machine. In addition, this arrangement provides good access to the air box for ease of maintenance. The tank is made of durable plastic to reduce weight.

The two-ton split seats feel like some of the most comfortable in the segment. And at the rear you can see the LED brake light, which follows the shape of the tail to complete the aggressive design. The instrument panel is completely electronic; in addition to the standard indicators, it also has a gear indicator and a clock.

Hyosung GD250R powerplant

The motor is the same as the previously shown Hyosung GD250N. The 250cc single-cylinder water-cooled engine features electronically controlled fuel injection that improves mixture efficiency. This engine is completely different from the previous 250cc V-twin GT250R.

The new engine spins up to 10,700 rpm. Peak power of 28.4 hp. achieved at 9500 rpm. Maximum torque 17.8 at 7000 rpm. One additional horsepower has been removed from the engine compared to the Hyosung GT250R engine. Power is transmitted through a 6-speed gearbox with multi-plate clutch. Feedback and information are said to be better than the outgoing V-twin GT.

Curb weight is 159 kg, which is 32 kg less than the GT. This motorcycle will easily outperform the GT, because the weight and power ratio combined with aerodynamics give it an advantage.

Handling Hyosung GD250R

Given the sporty nature of the Hyosung GD250R, you get wide clip-ons and a recess for recumbent riding. Adjustable aluminum footrests allow you to customize your foot position. The shape of the tank gives good support for the outside leg when leaning over when riding aggressively, and the high seat will suit taller riders.

The fuel tank is tilted opposite to the axis of the pendulum, due to this, gasoline always accumulates in the center of the tank, providing a better center of gravity. This has a good effect on handling due to less weight transfer to the sides. The muffler is located at the very bottom deliberately, this also centralizes the weight. All this together gives the motorcycle good handling.

A 37 mm upside-down fork is installed at the front, and a gas shock absorber with preload adjustment and an aluminum swingarm are installed at the rear. The shock absorber is attached directly to the swingarm and is located on the side - this frees up space for the tank, which centralizes the weight distribution.

Reinforced brake lines have been installed to improve braking efficiency. A 300mm brake disc with a 4-piston caliper and a 230mm disc with a 2-piston caliper at the rear provide ample stopping power. The motorcycle is not equipped with ABS. We hope it will be available as an option later. The motorcycle is equipped with low-profile MRF REVZ radial tires.

Motorcycle Hyosung GD 250R 2022 review

The description of the Hyosung GD 250R 2022 motorcycle is in the queue for publication of the article. Announcement: Today, for almost every new motorcycle that comes into being, marketers strive to carve out their own niche. This one is a road sport, this one is a recreational enduro. But what class should we include a motorcycle that has a little bit of everything? A good bike should have a reliable engine, comfortable ergonomics and simple controls...

Hyosung GD 250R is a motorcycle not sold in Russia, equipped with a low-power 28.4 hp engine. Despite the fact that good models of motorcycles have a very respectable price, and the season for their use is relatively short, the motorcycle market is developing rapidly. And if you believe the words of dealers, then some models of recently released motorcycles are selling like hot cakes at the beginning of the season, and the models brought to Russia are clearly not enough to fully satisfy consumer demand.

A motorcycle has long ceased to be an alternative to a car, and the times when this equipment was bought only because there was not enough money for a full-fledged car are forgotten. Nowadays, two-wheelers can be called technological marvels in many cases, and their cost can be compared with that of prestigious cars.

Many people have started buying motorcycles for hobby purposes as riding or even collecting them has become a good pastime for many people. Many motorcycles, for example the Hyosung GD 250R, whose technical characteristics make it possible to call the model a prestigious brand, are in demand among both beginners and experienced motorcyclists.

Motorcycles with an engine capacity of 249 cc / 15.2 cu in. see, appeared as a result of long work of inventors who sought to create a model that was not inferior in characteristics to other versions of the motorcycle. In some cases, these models are not only not inferior, but also ahead of other motorcycles, as they have minimal fuel consumption and other excellent parameters.

Hyosung GD 250R belongs to a common class of motorcycles with an engine capacity of 125 to 250 kb. cmAs a rule, these are light and relatively low-power motorcycles. Here you will get flexible control, easy steering and low weight of the motorcycle. Therefore, such motorcycles are suitable for almost every beginner, regardless of their characteristics. The exception is motorcycles with two-stroke engines of the “sport” and “cross” classes, since bikes of this class are distinguished by more power and an extremely sharp response to the throttle, which also does not make them obedient to control.

Yamaha YZF-R3

Yamaha YZF-R3 Yamaha emphasizes corner overhang and quick exits. The Japanese manufacturer has already produced some of the fastest and best-handling motorcycles in the world.
But the newest addition is the YZF-R3, positioned as a lightweight, practical everyday motorcycle. The Yamaha YZF-R3 looks very similar to the R25 and borrows a lot of styling cues. Perhaps this will be the general style of the entire YZF family, including the new R3.

The Yamaha YZF-R3 sports bike has a 321 cc 2-cylinder 4-stroke liquid-cooled engine. This bike produces more power than the R25. The engine is equipped with a 6-speed gearbox and produces about 42 hp. at 10,750 rpm and torque 20 at 9,000 rpm. This motorcycle also features electronic fuel injection.

The R3 is fitted with 41mm KYB forks and works superbly when paired with its rear shock. At the front there is a 4-piston caliper on a 298mm disc, at the rear there is a 2-piston caliper on a 220mm disc.

Review and technical characteristics of the Husong GT 250 motorcycle

In 2012 and 2016, the company released Gt 250 motorcycles designed for city roads.

GT 250 (2012)

This rather old road bike model has a 249cc 4-stroke engine with two cylinders. The gearbox is mechanical. The fuel is supplied by an injector, and the tank holds 17 liters. There are 5 gears in the device, and the main one is the chain. Gt 250 weighs approximately 170 kg, and dimensions are 2090x780x1120 (length x width x height). The front suspension is an inverted telescopic fork, and the rear suspension is a pendulum monoshock absorber. The cost of such a motorcycle is around 150 thousand rubles.

GT 250 (2016)

The improved device looks much more modern, and has the same four-stroke 249 cc engine as the first model, but with a power of 29 hp, it is started using an electric starter. Unlike the 2012 model, in this device the fuel is supplied by a carburetor, and the fuel tank holds 11 liters. AI-92-95 fuel is used. The entire device weighs approximately 156 kilograms and has dimensions of 1937x800x1055 (length x width x height). Both rear and front brakes are petal disc. The price of such a device is about 229 thousand rubles.

Kawasaki Ninja 300

Kawasaki Ninja 300

The Kawasaki Ninja 300 replaced the undisputed king of 250s in 2013. The new sportbike became more emotional and aggressive than the smaller Ninja 250. The bike also received a pack of technical gadgets that were not available on competitors’ motorcycles at that time. This made the sportbike very friendly to novice riders.

The sportbike was restyled according to new trends. Now it feels like he has all four pots under the plastic. But the main features remain the same since 2013: why change something that is already great?

The 2022 Kawasaki Ninja 300 will be equipped with the same 296cc inline 2-cylinder engine, which has been installed since 2013. Electronic injection helps squeeze 38.5 horses out of the engine at 11,000 rpm, torque 20.6 at 10,000 rpm. By tradition, Kawasaki engines are the most torquey: this one can be accelerated to as much as 13,000 rpm.

Uni-Trak shock absorption with preload adjustment at the rear and a 37mm fork at the front allow the base to fit 140 centimeters, and the entire bike is only 200 cm in length. Petal brake discs are installed: 290mm at the front, 220mm at the rear. Both calipers are 2-piston. Ninja is available in both versions with and without ABS.

Characteristics of Hyosung Aquila GV650

The video of the Aquil 650I proves that it is quite an interesting model. Its first feature is its cost, which reaches 400-450 thousand rubles, which puts it on par with manufacturers from Japan and America. For example, today the Harley-Davidson Sportster 883 sells for half a million rubles in standard configuration.

Based on official data, the Hyosung Aquila 650 engine produces 72 hp at maximum speed. With. There is information that there were more modest measurements at the stand - only 60 liters. With. The same engine is installed on other 650 cc Husong models (sport and classic). That is, it is an average option, from which you should not expect power at the top in the sports class, or traction at the bottom, like in a chopper.

Among modern standards, the Hyosung Aquila 650 is distinguished by a high-quality braking system and an injection system. But there are many more shortcomings. In many Aquilas there are:

  • curved seams, as in 125 models;
  • low quality chrome and the same paint finish.

On the Internet you can find reviews from owners who rode their iron horse for more than one year, and during this time the steering wheel could fall apart while driving, or the brakes would jam. Of course, these are isolated cases, but they all speak against Aquilla. When faced with a choice between buying this motorcycle or buying an American or a representative of the “big Japanese four” for about the same price, it is unlikely that the buyer will pay attention to Husong. The only advantage is that in its configuration it looks complete, and you won’t need to spend money on a large number of accessories.

Verdict

2017 is the year when the Hyosung GD250R reached our shores and burst into the hot 250cc motorcycle market. There are already many manufacturers exhibiting their small-sized motorcycles here, which will provide tough competition to the GD250R. Traditionally, this market is ruled by Honda, Yamaha and Kawasaki. Later, KTM burst in there, grabbing its share of sales.

The launch of the GD250R is like a breath of fresh air for Hyosung. Externally, it has something in common with many liter bikes and has a redesigned engine. Oh, if only he were really as good as he looks. Unfortunately, it loses to its competitors on almost all fronts.

Sorry Hyosung, but you should try harder.
