New Ural motorcycles - photos and characteristics

Russian motorcycle manufacturers, despite the large selection of Japanese and Chinese equipment, still try to please consumers with excellent new products, and in 2015 the IMZ company introduced a number of new models.
Today, most of them are available for sale throughout Russia; to buy a Ural motorcycle, you just need to find a dealership; the company has several dozen of them throughout the country. At the time of 2015, the manufacturer was able to introduce 7 new models, differing from each other in shape and some characteristics. Most of the new products are already familiar to you from Soviet times, but the essence of the updates is to add new, more modern characteristics to the motorcycles, such as improved brakes, a more advanced engine system, etc.

Technical characteristics of motorcycles Ural 2015

It is worth noting that all 7 models have quite a lot in common; each of them contains:

  • powerful 750cc boxer engine;
  • constant air cooling;
  • 4-speed gearbox with the ability to drive in reverse.

Even as children, we had to remember the same boxer engine of Ural motorcycles, which produced excellent speed data. Now the manufacturer has decided to modify the motorcycle, increasing its volume and power. Having bought a new model, you will not only be satisfied with the purchase, but also forget for a long time about the main defects and frequent breakdowns of the old Urals. The new models have received improvements, so that now oil will not leak from the engine.

The new Ural 2015, photos of which will be below, are especially popular today in the United States. Such equipment is valued there, although in Russia it is losing demand due to the high price for consumers. In 2015 and beyond, IMZ motorcycles are mostly supplied to the USA.

Six of the seven 2015 models retained the standard stroller, only the Retro Solo did not receive one. All new products, without exception, now have the ability to engage reverse gear, and the Patrol and Gear Up models now have all-wheel drive. Urals have always been spoken about positively in terms of cross-country ability, because the motorcycle could get out of any difficult situation. With the new all-wheel drive, 2 models can overcome these barriers even better with the push of just 1 lever. As mentioned above, motorcycles are of different types, for example, the “Retro Solo” model does not have a sidecar, which makes it great for traveling and driving around the city.

Of course, the new products have one big drawback that repels customers - the high price. On average, 2015 models are asking from 500 to 700 thousand rubles, and most people buy Japanese fast bikes. But still, some fans of Soviet classics will buy them and feel nostalgic when riding Ural road motorcycles. Let's take a quick look at some of the new Ural motorcycles 2015, photos and their characteristics.

The engine with fuel injection, having a volume of 745 cubic meters, is responsible for excellent and reliable operation. Motorcycle Ural Patrol

The most important advantage of this model is the presence of all-wheel drive, which is transmitted to the stroller wheel. Thus, you can operate the motorcycle both on city roads and off-road. The engine remains the same as other 2015 models. The design of the motorcycle is discreet, but the presence of a bright red color attracts primarily young people.

To cope with difficult road conditions, the manufacturer decided to install Marzocchi telescopic suspension and imported Sachs shock absorbers. The front disc brakes are hydraulic, from the famous Brembo company.

Motorcycle Ural Solo

The price of this motorcycle is 559,000 rubles, and the main advantage over other new products is its excellent design and the absence of a sidecar. That is, the motorcycle was originally created as a retro model with excellent characteristics. All the elements here are in harmony with each other, there is an old seat upholstered in leather, lots of chrome elements, black color of most of the builders and a teardrop tank.

This model seems to commemorate war times, which is emphasized by the design of the Ural Solo. The engine here is the same as in previous models, 2 cylinders and 745 cc. With such overall dimensions, the new product can drive perfectly around the city even in heavy traffic.

Motorcycle Ural Gear-Up

At the moment, this is one of the most expensive Ural models of 2015, its price is 648,000 rubles. The basis for creating the motorcycle was the Tourist model, but among the improvements the following were made:

  • new roll bars;
  • drive to the sidecar wheel (all-wheel drive motorcycle);
  • new color options: Forest Camouflage, Desert Camouflage and Forest Fog;
  • new lights and cases appeared.

In appearance, the new product shows its power and desire to conquer even the most difficult road. As a result, the manufacturer was able to create a motorcycle that has good cross-country ability, 19-inch wheels, a large trunk, high ground clearance and the latest imported electrical equipment. The result can be seen in the photo.

GEAR UP 2022 - from 962,000 rubles

According to the website, this is the most popular model. Here the base already has 19-inch wheels, a plug-in wheel drive, a spare wheel, fog lights, a 10-liter canister and a trunk for a spare wheel.

Additionally, you can install everything the same as in the previous model: heated seats and heaters, windshields, engine protection. The motorcycle can also be repainted in camouflage or matte black.

Motorcycle Ural ST 2019

At the end of 2014, the Irbit Motor Plant presented the new Ural cT (CiT), specially designed for beginner Ural drivers. The legendary bike combines classic engineering solutions. Its lightweight and low sidecar make it much easier to control, so inexperienced motorcyclists can easily adapt to the intricacies of driving a fairly heavy and powerful motorcycle.

Thanks to 18-inch spoked wheels, the designers achieved a reduction in ground clearance, and at the same time improved maneuverability. The 745 cc Ural ST engine with EFI injection develops serious thrust, allowing you to enjoy high-speed travel regardless of the load. A 4-speed gearbox with reverse gear and a driveshaft are classic attributes of heavy and durable motorcycles.

The IMZ double-shock linkage suspension at the front and the pendulum suspension at the rear will provide an indescribable smooth ride, and high-quality Eidenau tires contribute to confident grip on the road surface. The Ural ST has a full Brembo disc brake system. The motorcycle is available in 3 colors that will highlight the individuality of the owner, while non-standard coloring is possible for an additional fee.

Let's compare the Ural motorcycle which is 33 years old and the modern Ural City

Any person who is even slightly interested in motorcycles cannot help but know about the Ural brand motorcycle. This legendary motorcycle began production in 1940 and it continues to this day.

Mostly now motorcycles are exported and win the hearts of foreign lovers of powerful equipment, but any resident of our country can also easily purchase this popular motorcycle.

In this article we will look at whether the motorcycle produced 33 years ago has changed compared to modern models. To do this, let’s take two motorcycles, this is the most widely produced motorcycle IMZ Ural 8.103-10, which was produced in 1986, and the modern Ural City. We will compare based on the main technical characteristics stated by the manufacturer. As already mentioned, the IMZ Ural 8.103-10 motorcycle began production in 1986 and was equipped with the following characteristics.

The engine installed on it by engineers was a 4-stroke two-cylinder, had a volume of 649 cubic centimeters, and a power of 36 hp. The gearbox was a four-speed manual with foot shift; reverse gear was also provided. The weight of the motorcycle is 315 kilograms. Fuel tank capacity is 19 liters. The maximum speed is 105 km/h, with an average fuel consumption of 12 liters per 100 kilometers.

The motorcycle picks up speed up to one hundred kilometers in 25 seconds. Front and rear drum brakes. IMZ Ural 8.103-10 was produced until 1993, during this period 830 thousand copies were produced.

What are the characteristics of today's Ural City? The engine is also a 4-stroke two-cylinder with a working volume of 745 cubic centimeters and a power of 30 hp. The transmission was a four-speed manual, and there was also a reverse gear.

The weight of the motorcycle is 365 kilograms. The volume of the fuel tank is 19 liters. The motorcycle speed is 110 km/h, the reference fuel consumption is 8 liters per 100 kilometers. The front brake is a four-piston single disc with hydraulic drive, and the rear brakes are disc.

Of course, time does its job, progress comes, and with it technology and everything that follows. The appearance of the motorcycle has become more modern fashion trends. Many of us have personally dealt with this motorcycle and you probably have something to say, so you can leave your comments under the article.

Motorcycle Ural Patrol

The most important advantage of this model is the presence of all-wheel drive, which is transmitted to the stroller wheel. Thus, you can operate the motorcycle both on city roads and off-road. Just 15-20 years ago, the main mode of transport for rural youth was the so-called heavy Ural or Dnepr motorcycles. And at one time I also drove one of these devices, or to be more precise, I had a Dnepr-11. And at least three of my classmates were “heavies” back in their school years.

0

Now, when coming to the very village where I spent my childhood, it is very rare to hear the sound of a Ural or Dnieper engine. Mostly young people either ride scooters, light mopeds, or those whose richer parents can afford faster models of motorcycles. But many people still have an interest in the old models of heavy motorcycles, and some buy them not so much for use as for collection or simply, as they say, to remember their youth, to ride once or twice a month or two. I remember that before you could buy a Ural or Dnepr with a stroller in decent condition for around 10,000 rubles, although if you tried hard, there were good options even for 5 thousand. And I wanted to know if such motorcycles are now sold new, and how much they cost. It is impossible to find them in showrooms, at least in small towns across the country, but the manufacturer’s official website has such information. But when I went to the page with prices for new Urals, to put it mildly, I couldn’t believe my eyes. And at first I thought that I was seeing double, and I was seeing an extra zero, but after taking a closer look, I realized that my vision was completely fine-) So, the cheapest version of Ural City 2022 costs from 798,000 rubles. And for this money you get this:

Opposite two-cylinder four-stroke engine, 41 hp, electronic fuel injection system, front fork with linkage with two shock absorbers, disc brakes both front and rear. Of course, this version has single rear wheel drive. And there is another, more expensive version, the price tag of which starts from 879,000 rubles, and it differs in that it already has a wheelchair drive, which can be connected if necessary if you are planning to conquer light off-road conditions on this iron horse.

And if among domestic lovers of motorcycle equipment there are not many who buy expensive toys like these, then these models are very popular abroad. And you won’t believe it, but taking into account all the duties and other extra charges, foreigners buy our Urals for $20,000, which is close to 1.5 million rubles. How do you like this device? Would you buy it for your soul?

Motorcycle Ural Gear-Up

At the moment, this is one of the most expensive Ural models of 2015, its price is 648,000 rubles. The basis for creating the motorcycle was the Tourist model, but among the improvements the following were made:

  • new roll bars;
  • drive to the sidecar wheel (all-wheel drive motorcycle);
  • new color options: Forest Camouflage, Desert Camouflage and Forest Fog;

The history of the Irbit Motorcycle Plant began in the fall of 1941, when equipment from the evacuated Moscow Motorcycle Plant (MMZ) began to arrive in Irbit. The army needed a heavy motorcycle with a sidecar. Just before the war, MMZ began producing M-72 motorcycles, which were an exact copy of the German BMW R-71. These cars had a tubular frame with a spark plug rear suspension, a telescopic front fork and a cardan drive for the rear wheel. Lower valve opposed two-cylinder engine with a displacement of 746 cm3 and a power of 22 hp. combined with a four-speed gearbox. The motorcycle was intended mainly for use with a sidecar.

The first serial M-72s produced at the Irbit plant saw the light of day already in February 1942. They were assembled under very difficult conditions; the installation of equipment proceeded in parallel with the assembly of parts from the stock of parts brought from Moscow. Quality often suffered; One day, for a month, military representatives did not accept a single motorcycle. However, the production of motorcycles gradually became obsolete. Even modernization was carried out: for example, already during the war, the motorcycle received a double-disc clutch, a double-support sidecar wheel axle, and reinforced wheel spokes. Experimental work was also carried out at the plant - motorcycles with a sidecar wheel drive and with sidecars of various designs (including wooden ones) were tested. Factory specialists, in collaboration with army engineers, created several samples of overhead valve engines. A lightweight half-track tractor was also manufactured with a motorcycle front fork and an experienced overhead valve boxer engine. In total, almost 10 thousand M-72s were manufactured during the war years. These motorcycles were used in all branches of the ground forces, for example in the signal service and in the reconnaissance units of tank and mechanized formations. In addition, even in the pre-war period, separate motorcycle regiments were formed, which from the beginning of M-72 production were equipped with these machines. Various modifications were equipped with radios, machine guns, and light mortars. After the war, motorcycle production in Irbit was not curtailed or repurposed, as many expected. The production of the M-72 for the army, police and other government agencies continued. Experimental work in the post-war period led to small-scale (10-20 units per year) production of overhead valve road racing motorcycles M-75 (1945-1951), M-75M (1951-1954), M-77 (1954-1959). Motorcycles for motocross competitions were also produced. In addition, in collaboration with specialists from the Serpukhov All-Russian Research Institute of Motorcycle Industry, in 1947, a record-breaking racing motorcycle I6A with a supercharged engine was created. Since 1954, M-72 motorcycles began to be sold to the civilian population. The plant had to develop new color schemes and improve painting technology. It is curious that when the first M-72s went to customers, in order not to build faceless motorcycles, a decal with the inscription “Irbit” was made on the gas tank. By the end of 1955, certain complaints from buyers gave rise to the M-72M modification, which was distinguished by reinforced wheels and frame, improved engine design, and torsion bar suspension for the sidecar wheels. Simultaneously with the modernization of the production machine, work was underway at the plant to create a completely new motorcycle, which featured a completely redesigned engine. The M-52 model, which appeared in 1957, had an overhead valve engine with a displacement of 494 cm3 and a power of 25 hp. The front fork was changed - the designers moved the wheel axle forward, while on 750 cc motorcycles the axle was attached to the ends of the front fork stays. Wheels with 18-inch tires received special aluminum alloy hubs. The M-52C motorcycles for road racing were also built on the basis of the M-52. The main difference between the M-52 is that this motorcycle was intended only for use without a sidecar. In addition, in terms of engine characteristics, it was a purely road car. Not surprisingly, very few people liked it, and attempts to use it with a stroller and on rough terrain were unsuccessful. Nevertheless, the motorcycle played its role: the cylinder heads and crankshaft with reduced piston strokes developed for it, in combination with other parts of the M-72 engine, gave birth to an overhead valve series of 650 cc engines that are still produced today. New engine with a displacement of 649 cm3 and a power of 26 hp. installed in the M-72 chassis. A motorcycle with the M-61 index, assembled in small batches since 1957, completely filled the assembly production in 1960 and was built until 1963. It became the first to receive the name “Ural”. Since 1961, the M-62 model with a new camshaft and automatic ignition timing mechanism was assembled in parallel. Engine power increased to 28 hp. The modernized gearbox - with gear clutches instead of cam clutches - was unified with motorcycles from the Kyiv Motor Plant (KMZ). In addition, the suspension travel was increased and the shape of the front fork housings was changed. The next motorcycle in the series of serial Irbit models was the M-63, which appeared in 1963 and completely replaced the previous car from 1965, which was given the name “Ural-2”. For this motorcycle, a new frame was developed with a pendulum rear suspension that received hydraulic shock absorbers. The shape of the gas tank has also changed, and at the same time its capacity has increased. The exhaust system also received a new form. This car turned out to be a long-liver, produced until 1980. The M-66 Ural-3 motorcycle, which appeared in 1971, was the son of further evolutionary changes in the design of Irbit motorcycles. Externally, the car remained virtually unchanged, except that the direction indicators were noticeable. Engine power increased to 32 hp; for the first time, a full-flow oil filter with a replaceable element was introduced into the engine lubrication system. This car was built until 1975, but based on its engine, by 1973 a significantly redesigned chassis with a combined driver and passenger seat was ready. The debutant received the name “Ural” M-67. Other innovations of this machine include 12-volt electrical equipment and a two-cam front brake. In 1976, it was replaced by an even more modern version - the Ural M 67-36, which received a 36-horsepower engine with a constant displacement of 650 cm3. All motorcycles from the Irbit plant were intended exclusively for use with a sidecar. The exception was special motorcycles built for escort and highway patrol services. In 1967, a small batch of M-100 motorcycles was manufactured, with a 1040 cc two-cylinder overhead valve engine with a power of 50 hp, sent for testing at the Moscow ORUD-GAI. The car did not go into production, but based on the serial engine, a similar single patrol motorcycle M-63P was prepared, produced in the late 60s - early 70s together with the All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Motor Industry in a small batch - just over 300 pieces. One should not think that no experimental developments were carried out at the Irbit plant. On the contrary, there were a lot of experienced motorcycles, and there is no way to list them all. Just look at the M-65 - a motorcycle with a double headlight, wide-profile tires, a new sidecar and hydraulic brakes. But the plant was financed on a residual basis, and those at the top did not see the point in investing in a radical update of motorcycles: there were already queues for them. Indicative in this sense is the fate of the experimental model M-73. The terms of reference for its development were received from above. The design of the machine embodied more than a dozen inventions for which copyright certificates were obtained. Aluminum cylinders, engine suspension on silent blocks, a five-speed gearbox with reverse gear, an electric starter, a transmission parking brake - this is not a complete list of innovations used on this motorcycle. The vehicle passed a series of rigorous tests and was recommended for production, but it did not reach production: unification with the production model turned out to be minimal, and production readjustment was considered expensive and unnecessary. In addition to the experimental development of serial products, the plant has always paid a lot of attention to sports - cross-country and road racing. At different times, the company produced many models of sports equipment. Let's mention the 1000 cc "Cross 1000" and the "Strela" M-63S - a special motorcycle with a sidecar for road racing in the late 60s, as well as the cross-country motorcycle with a sidecar IMZ-8.201, which was produced for a long time for motorcycle clubs. The 80s did not add anything special to the design of Irbit cars, except that in 1986 a gearbox with reverse gear appeared on the Ural 8.103-10 model. This is how the plant entered the 90s, when the demand for motor vehicles fell sharply. In an effort to save the situation, the company urgently introduced the IMZ-8.103-40 “Tourist” model to the market in 1991, which featured a massive long-link front fork, an electronic ignition system, and interchangeable shock absorbers on all wheels. The main bet was made on single motorcycles, which were finally allowed to be produced and sold to everyone. The first such model was the Ural-Solo in 1992, followed by the Voyage and Solo-Classic. But with a certain demand, these motorcycles could not withstand any competition with the two-wheeled second-hand goods that poured into Russia. The last serious novelty from Irbit was the Ural IMZ-8.107 shown in 1995 - in fact, a “Tourist” model equipped with a sidecar wheel drive. In 2000, an army motorcycle was prepared at its base - a carrier of heavy weapons, which attracted everyone's attention at the military equipment review in Nizhny Tagil. However, the demand for the once popular Urals remains minimal, and the change in the owners of the enterprise in 2001 generally called into question its very existence.
