NEW DUCATI 2022 - New DUCATI motorcycles of the 2018 model year presented (+DUCATI video stream show)

Superbike powertrain

The heart of the Ducati Devil is the proprietary two-cylinder 1200 cc V-twin L-Twin Testastretta11° engine, equipped with a unique gas distribution mechanism called Desmodromic, as well as liquid cooling.
The maximum power of this engine reaches 162 horsepower, and the maximum torque is 127.5 Nm.

Note that when tuning the Ducati Diavel power plant, attention is focused specifically on torque at middle and lower speeds.

Perfect control of engine power is achieved thanks to the Ride-By-Wire system, which makes it possible to accelerate to “hundreds” in just 2.6 seconds.

Among other things, the motorcycle engine has an electronic fuel injection system from Mitsubishi, equipped with RBW and Mikuni elliptical throttle valves, as well as twin oxygen sensors.

The exhaust system of the Ducati Diavel is crowned with twin mufflers made of aluminum.

Key points

Classical

  • The ability to instantly adjust both torque and engine power;
  • Controlling suspension and traction;
  • Four different riding modes to create a unique, individual style tailored to the driver's preferences.

Sports

  • ABS is used;
  • Electronic adaptive suspension called Ohlins;
  • There is an air intake, as well as a compact rear wing and side extractors;
  • All the bells and whistles and innovations emphasize the power and character of the motorcycle.

Tourist

It was created specifically for those who love long, relaxing trips. However, it has all the features that are inherent in the first two modifications. The main difference is that the model is designed to provide the highest possible comfort for the driver. As an example, the possibility of automated heating is built into the handles, and on the sides of the motorcycle there are 57-liter panniers for long trips.

Transmission and engine

The motorcycle's transmission includes a six-speed front gearbox, which is equipped with a constant, non-stop gear clutch. The transmission is also equipped with a wet multi-plate hydraulic clutch, as well as a main chain drive.

As for the engine, the first moment that is simply breathtaking is the high power and weight parameters that were provided by the most technologically advanced engine currently in existence - an engine called Superquadro. This engine in the Ducati Panigal 1199 is a 1198 cc unit with two cylinders.

There is liquid cooling as well as a gas distribution mechanism. In the process of creating this engine, the developers were able to achieve a significant reduction in the size and weight of the engine.

Another engineering decision made in the process of creating the engine for this motorcycle is the deflection of the cylinders relative to the crankcase by 6 degrees. Due to this engineering solution, the gap between the body and the front wheel has become larger. This helped with load redistribution.

The engine is equipped with an electronic fuel injection system, as well as two injectors for each cylinder.

Summary

Any first-generation Monster model is the quintessence of the characteristics inherent in a road motorcycle: classic optics, sharp and aggressive temperament, excellent dynamics and behavior on high-speed corners, offered for an affordable price.

Younger models equipped with a 400 cc engine can be found on the market for 150 thousand rubles, older versions equipped with a Testastretta engine will cost at least 500 thousand rubles.

When choosing a Ducati Monster, motorcyclists are advised to clearly define their desire to purchase this particular motorcycle. If you have not previously had any driving experience, then it is best to take models with engines of 800 or 900 cc. With enough experience, you can purchase a much more powerful version - for example, the Ducati S4RS, which is distinguished by incredible strength.

Despite the high quality and reliability of Italian motorcycles, it is advisable not to buy old models, but when choosing, contact mechanics who can inspect the selected bike and evaluate not only its external but also its technical condition. Of course, the “Italian” Ducati Monster requires special attention and care, so you shouldn’t skimp on maintenance and official services.

The Ducati Monster 400 motorcycle was designed exclusively for city riding; you should not expect championship from it in racing. We invite you to study its appearance and draw your own conclusions about how exactly it was able to win the hearts of many motorcycle enthusiasts.

Possible motorcycle malfunctions

The motorcycle is characterized by specialists and owners as quite reliable and not causing much trouble. The most common malfunctions:

  • Melting of the plastic screen and fuel line pipes located next to the exhaust. The repair consists of installing additional thermal insulation.
  • The engine crankcase may be damaged at the side stand attachment point. If detected, replacement is required.
  • Destruction of steering limiters. They are restored by removing old parts and installing new ones.

You can purchase original Ducati Monster 696 spare parts and have them repaired at the company’s specialized services.

Why is motorcycle popular?

The Ducati 1199 Panigale S can rightfully be considered one of the best, and even revolutionary models of sports superbikes. It was created specifically for races and prize-winning places in championships such as World Superbike, and almost immediately adapted for frantic, but relatively calm riding on public roads.

What is especially pleasing is that the motorcycle was ultimately able to exceed even the most daring and daring expectations in terms of power, performance, design and handling. The only thing that slightly spoiled the performance was the cost of the motorcycle. Due to the inflated cost, the motorcycle was not entirely accessible to the general public.

Of course, the creators took this nuance into account, and that is why they created the Ducati 899 Panigale. It was the same motorcycle, but it was only made as a budget version. As for the Ducati Panigale 1199, it remains a source of pride for extreme sports enthusiasts, as well as an object of worship for consumers.

Ducati Panigale 1199

Exterior

At the very first and quick glance at this piece of technological art, you will find that its silhouette was as if drawn on a sheet of paper, and drawn with creative, bold and quite rich strokes. The design, together with its dynamics, is emphasized by combinations of several contrasting colors for the casing of the main body. The entire exterior is not just tasteful, but also sophisticated, and in the entire appearance of this motorcycle you can trace the corporate style and Italian charm of the Ducati organization.

The front twin headlights of this bike are equipped with the latest and most modern optics, which, in turn, are equipped with additional LEDs. As for wind protection, there is a high windshield that can be adjusted if necessary. And the mechanism of this glass is quite simple and intuitive for anyone.

There are several advanced information sensors on the dashboard, and compact but spacious glove compartments are mounted on either side of it. The “humpbacked” and narrow tank combined with a wide handlebar is what gives the bike a certain amount of old school and rare features that are mandatory for motorcycle schools in Italy.

The 17-inch wheels are shod with professional, wear-resistant Scorpion Trail tires. These tires were invented, developed and put into production by the Pirelli organization, and they did all this just for this model. The tires here are not only the fastest, but also allow you to ride on slopes of up to 45°.

Enduro Ducati Multistrada

Ducati motorcycles

Ducati is a famous Italian manufacturer of sportbikes and all-terrain motorcycles with an L-shaped engine. The company was founded in 1926 in Bologna. At first, Ducati produced radio equipment, but the factories were destroyed during the Second World War and after it the company began producing engines for motorcycles.

By the end of the 50s, the company successfully competed in motorcycle racing with the powerful Ducati 250 Twin motorcycle. A feature of most Ducati V-twin engines is that the angle between the cylinders is 90 degrees, and one of them is parallel to the ground. This served as the basis for the name of the line of engines - L-shaped.

In addition to the unusual engine, Ducati motorcycles had another feature - the “desmodromic” valve system. This design was developed by engineer Fabio Taglioni, and, largely thanks to it, the company successfully competed in sports competitions. A special feature of this system is the use of a cam drive for the valves. The industry of that time could not provide the required quality of springs for closing valves at high speeds, and the new “desmodromic” system allowed Ducati motorcycles not only to increase efficiency and engine life at high speeds, but also to increase torque at the bottom.

In the 60s and 70s, Ducati continued to compete successfully in racing, improving its sports motorcycles. It was in the 70s that L-Twin engines gained sports fame and became widespread among “civilian” motorcycles.

In 1983, Ducati was acquired by the Castiglioni family and the company merged with the Cagiva group. At this time, Ducati sportbikes continue to be improved and the first model from the Ducati Monstr line of universal motorcycles, which is still popular today, is released.

In the mid-90s, Ducati changed ownership again - the company was acquired by the Texas Pacific investment group. Ducati sports bikes actively and successfully compete in the prestigious World Superbike series.

Success in the World Superbike series pushed Ducati to participate in the MotoGP World Championship. For this purpose, a Ducati Desmosedici GP motorcycle with a V-shaped four-cylinder engine was specially released. In 2007, Ducati wins the MotoGP World Championship.

Now Ducati continues to adhere to the principle of “win a race today, sell a bike tomorrow”, spending about 10% of its budget on sports. Thanks to this spending, the company has a very strong position in sportbikes, superbikes and road bikes. The company is also actively developing enduro motorcycles and cruisers, trying to gain a foothold in new market segments.

Who is the motorcycle suitable for?

According to the developers, the motorcycle is suitable for an active person with a high and dynamic pace of life. The motorcycle is also suitable for those who like to conquer horizons and have many different hobbies. This is exactly what an ordinary person looks like, according to the developers, the future owner of a motorcycle.

Ducati Multistrada

The story of Ducati during its explosive dawn. Crisis of the 80s

In 1954, the post of chief designer at Ducati went to the young engineer Fabio Taglioni. With his arrival, Ducati begins its motorcycle history. The first brainchild of the chief engineer of the legendary brand was the Ducati 100 Gran Sport motorcycle. This motorcycle not only wins many races, but also sets the standard for the technological development of the industry for the next 15 years!

Motorcycle Ducati 100 Gran Sport

What was revolutionary was not so much the engine displacement of 98 cc. see how much approach to increasing its power to 9 hp. by increasing the speed to 9,000 per minute. To achieve this, Fabio decides to place the camshaft in the cylinder head. Weighing 80 kg, the first-born Ducati could accelerate to a maximum of 130 km/h. This performance was immediately appreciated by motorcycle racers, but what’s even more interesting is that the engine could easily withstand even exceeding the maximum speed up to 11,500 per minute! With this engine, the Ducati 100 Gran Sport easily takes all the prizes in the 100cc class. cm.

A motorcycle with a desmodromic drive and a forced valve opening/closing system appeared on the market only in 1958, although the development of the drive and engine was completed by Taglioni in 1956. This time the engine capacity increased to 125 cc. see. Already in 1959, a similar Ducati motorcycle was produced, but with a two-cylinder engine.

Motorcycle Ducati Mach 1

In a short time, the range of Ducati sports motorcycles is replenished with models with engines of 175 and 200 cc. see. Since the 60s, the company has been introducing to the market a fundamentally new Ducati 250 motorcycle, with a four-stroke engine and an overhead camshaft that developed 18 hp. power. Amateurs freely bored the engine up to 450 cc. see. The most spectacular models with this engine are the Ducati Mach 1, released in 1964, and the Mark 3D, released in 1968.

After some time, Taglioni becomes obsessed with the idea of developing a 1,300 cc engine, which is immediately ordered by US government agencies. A talented engineer completes the job and gets a 4-cylinder Apollo engine with an incredible 100 hp. But at that time there were no tires capable of withstanding such power, so they abandoned the use of the engine for a while. True, the Ducati 750GT motorcycle, released in 1970, received from Fabio a simplified version of this engine with a displacement of 750 cc. cm. This motorcycle weighed 185 kg and had a power of 60 hp. could freely accelerate to 200 km/h. Developing the idea, Fabio released another motorcycle with the same engine - the Ducati Super Sport 750, which already accelerated to 215 km/h. The technologies proposed by Fabio allowed Ducati motorcycles to remain leaders in motorcycle racing for a long time.

Ducati Supersport 750 motorcycle

Taglioni did not stop there. The next step for him was the development of a camshaft with a timing belt and the manufacture of cylinders from an aluminum alloy with a nickel-silicon coating instead of conventional cast iron. Around the same period, Ducati motorcycles switched to the famous chrome-molybdenum steel tube frame.

In 1979, the Ducati 500 Pantah entered the market, becoming the fastest motorcycle with a 500 cc engine. see. Business goes well for a while, new motorcycles are released and existing ones sell well. But something went wrong for the Italians...

Ducati 500 motorcycle

The 80s brought another crisis to the company. The production of motorcycles brings great losses and the company survives only by producing industrial engines. In 1983, the Italian government, which at that time was the sole owner of Ducati, sold the production of Ducati motorcycles to the successful Cagiva concern, which was reviving the production of Italian enduro motorcycles using twin-cylinder engines developed by Ducati as a basis. This is what saved the brand from complete collapse. However, the production of motorcycles after the sale of Cagiva had its own nuances: enduros were produced under the Cagiva brand, while road models were produced under the nameplate of the most legendary brand.

Ducati

Racing motorcycle in your garage

Ducati motorcycles are not just a means of transportation, they are unique devices created for high-speed riding that can satisfy the requirements of the most sophisticated motorcycle gourmets.

Today, the Ducati is popular and revered among motorcyclists not because of its mass appeal, but precisely because of a certain elitism. In this, it is somewhat similar to the famous brands of Italian sports cars: everyone knows that Lamborghini is an excellent car, but only a few drive it.

Likewise, Ducati for motorcyclists is a symbol of quality and the highest speed characteristics, and every owner of a model of this brand feels to some extent chosen.

Many professional motorcyclists believe that they need to grow up to Ducati , and a beginner simply will not understand the beauty of these devices. After all, the main difference between these motorcycles and other brands is that they were initially designed for high-speed, sporty riding.

That is, in fact, these are motorcycles for road racing, just put into mass production and released for free sale. Naturally, few people will deny themselves the pleasure of getting behind the wheel of such a motorcycle and feeling like a motorsport star.

Revolutionary solutions and precise calculations

Ducati is one of the most famous and respected names in the motorcycle market. Motorcycles of this brand regularly win the most prestigious motorcycle races, and production models are often sold out even before leaving the factory assembly line.

The company's model range includes motorcycles for different purposes and different market segments. These are both powerful sports bikes and relatively modest models for city riding. They differ in both technical and design features, but one thing always remains the same - the highest quality and triumph of engineering.

Ducati product line there is a model for both the demanding, sophisticated professional and the simple amateur motorcyclist. Today, the company's products are supplied to 60 countries around the world, occupying a leading position in the sports bike markets of Western Europe and North America.

Ducati is a bright, modern design and unique technologies, tested and fine-tuned on racing models. Every little detail in this motorcycle is calculated and thought out many times. All the more surprising is the fact that motorcycles under the Ducati began to be produced almost by accident.

From radio technology to motorcycles

The company was founded by brothers Marcello and Andriano as a family venture in 1926. And then it did not produce motorcycles at all, but radios, cameras and other electronics. And only after the Second World War, when an industrial decline set in in defeated Italy, the company had to think about changing its type of activity.

Post-war Italy was a pitiful sight: destroyed cities, bombed roads, lack of public transport and an impoverished population. In such conditions, electronics were not in demand, but people needed inexpensive and practical means of transportation.

In order to somehow stay afloat, the Ducati began producing engines for bicycles, and then the first motorcycles. The success of this endeavor was so great that it was simply unreasonable to consider the production of motorcycles only as a temporary measure. And in 1953, the company split into two divisions, one continued to deal with electronics, and the second concentrated on the production of motorcycles.

It was then that a course was set for the production of racing models, and not just cheap motorcycles for the population. To achieve success, talented young engineers were recruited and immediately began to implement their ideas. This company policy gave results almost instantly - already in 1955, a rider on a Ducati won one of the most prestigious motorcycle races.

In subsequent years, the company continued to be one of the leaders in the production of racing motorcycles. And today she continues to amaze the motorcycle community with new bold technical solutions and design ideas. This means that Ducati will be on the podium more than once, and ordinary lovers of riding two-wheeled vehicles will enjoy driving a fast and reliable motorcycle.

Ducati racing motorcycles - a success story

Since their inception, Ducati have been viewed specifically as racing models. And this was confirmed in 1955, when the young talented pilot Gianni Degli Anthony won the nine-day Motogiro d'Italia race on a Gran Sport sports bike. And a year later, Anthony, driving a new 125 cc model, excelled in the Grand Prix competition - the most prestigious motorcycle race at that time.

The fame of the main manufacturers of racing motorcycles then passed to the Japanese companies for a while, and Italian motorcycles reappeared on the racing tracks in the late seventies, when driver Mike Hailwood broke the hegemony of the Japanese by winning the prestigious Isle of Man TT race on a 900SS bike.

In the nineties, Ducati became the absolute leader on the track in the World Superbike championship, winning most of the team and individual awards. And in 2003, the red team returned to the royal Moto GP class with the new Desmosedici sports bike, and took fourth place in the first season. Then there was third place in 2006 and Casey Stoner's overall victory in 2007. All these recent sporting successes have brought Ducati to its former glory - the glory of a champion team.

Innovative technologies to the masses

From the very beginning of its activity, Ducati has embarked on the path of introducing new technologies. This was largely due to the technical genius of chief engineer Fabio Taglioni, whose bold decisions predetermined the success of the brand. But his main merit is that all these innovative technologies did not remain the province of racing machines only, but were immediately introduced into mass-produced motorcycles.

Desmodromic valve timing drive is a unique technology in the motorcycle industry, which provides direct control of the lowering and lifting of the valves. This technology allows valves to close and open in a timely manner at all engine speeds. The release of engines with desmodromic engines was a real revolution in the world of motorsports, because the main problem of heavy 4-stroke engines was solved - valve sticking. Motorcycles equipped with this engine immediately began to win first places in all competitions.

But this was only the beginning, because the main benefit from this technology could be obtained in the production of large-capacity motorcycles. And in 1972, the Super Sport 750 appeared - the first production motorcycle with a desmodromic engine. This design requires the highest precision manufacturing, which is why to this day no company uses it in mass production. Desmodromic engines became a signature feature of Ducati .

Other revolutionary developments of the company include the Trellis trellis steel frame, the L-twin two-cylinder engine, the introduction of a timing belt instead of a bevel gear camshaft, and the use of nickel-silicon-coated aluminum alloy for the manufacture of cylinders.

It was these technological solutions that made the brand unique. All over the world, Ducati has gained a reputation as a conductor of advanced technologies.

What Italian doesn't appreciate stylish design?

There is much more to be said about innovative technologies, brilliant technological solutions and brilliant insights from engineers. But besides all this, truly Italian products have always been distinguished by one more important detail - stylish design.

And here Ducati confirm their Italian origin one hundred percent, because they are easy to recognize among many other brands by their aggressive and memorable design. Ducati models are dominated by streamlined shapes, clear lines and solid colors. Almost every model released sets new standards in its class and becomes a classic example of motorcycle design.

At the same time, the variety of models pleases the eye - from the classic Monster and Multistrada motorcycles to the ultra-modern and fashionable Desmosedici RR racing car.

Throughout its history, the company has worked with the best Italian designers. The company collaborated with Michel Galluzzi, who created the design of the legendary Monster model, and Massimo Tamburini, the father of the classic Ducati 916 - a recognized masterpiece in the field of motorcycle design, Pierre Terblanche, the author of the Cagiva Canyon, 900SS and the modern hit Multistrada.

Ducati is unique in everything from innovative technology to design solutions. Even the sound of the engine of motorcycles of this brand is unique: if you know even a little about motorcycles, you will never confuse an approaching Ducati with any other motorcycle.

Model range - loyalty to traditions and new horizons

Like any other successful company, Ducati does not stand still and strives to develop and expand its influence in the market. But at the same time, the Italians do not lose their individuality and follow the course that Fabio Taglioni set more than half a century ago.

Ducati motorcycles are still the fastest in the world, despite the appearance of less-than-racing models. In 2003, a device called the Multistrada rolled off the assembly line - a hybrid of a touring and urban sports bike, which had the positive qualities of both types. This model was the first in the company’s product line to claim mass appeal and truly popular popularity.

In order to conquer a new market segment, the second cruiser in the company's history, Ducati Diavel, was released, which has three travel modes - tourist, sport and urban. Each mode has its own level of ABS sensitivity and engine power.

But, in spite of everything, these models retained the aggressive and high-speed character and proprietary technological “chips” that distinguish all Ducati .

In addition, exact replicas of real racing cars, such as the Desmosedici RR, are regularly produced.

A community of speed lovers

Ducati is not just motorcycles, it is a special lifestyle, and every owner of this brand becomes part of a select club. And these are not just words - such a club really exists, and it is called DOC (from the English Ducati Owners Club - Ducati ). The club's activities are coordinated by online communities. Motorcycle owners can communicate on the company’s official website and the website of regional offices.

The online community brings together motorcycle owners from all over the world, allows them to exchange experiences, discuss the latest news and follow global trends in the world of motorsports.

The company takes care of its products even after they leave the assembly line. That is why she regularly holds various events for fans of the brand - exhibitions, races, driving schools. Every year, the Italian city of Misano hosts World Ducati , which is visited by more than 50,000 people from all over the world.

For those who value individuality in everything, the company offers a wide selection of accessories - from spare parts to branded clothing. For any class there is a wide selection of plastic, carbon and metal parts for motorcycle repair and tuning.

With the help of decorative elements, you can turn a serial model into a unique device of its kind, emphatically sporty, or a practical tourist. Fans of motorcycle travel will be able to purchase branded cases and panniers of various sizes.

Ducati company does everything to make its customers fall in love with motorcycles as much as its developers. Because Ducati is more than just motorcycles.

History and model range of Ducati motorcycles in Russia

As soon as you hear the name Ducati, your ears immediately hear the sound characteristic of racing motorcycles. The exclusivity of the brand lies in the fact that production is aimed not at quantity, but at quality. But it was not easy for the company to gain recognition in the motorcycle world. In fact, Ducati Motor Holding SpA was forced to collect bikes by the circumstances that developed in Italy after the Second World War. Since 1926, the company specialized in the production of radio equipment, which the Ducati brothers were fond of. In the post-war years, in order to stay afloat, it was necessary to provide the dilapidated country with affordable means of transportation.

The predecessor of racing cars was the Cucciolo motorized bicycle, the engine for which was developed by Aldo Farinelli. A little later, the first full-fledged Cruiser motorcycle appeared with revolutionary new products: an automatic transmission and an electric starter. The consumer's unpreparedness for innovation has become the reason for its unpopularity.

In 1954, designer Fabio Taglioni got a job at Ducati. He developed and introduced into production motorcycles with a desmodromic drive, which made it possible to reach high speeds with little power. Now high engine speeds are not a hindrance. New alloys were invented for casting cylinders and frames. The success and celebrity of the brand is achieved on the most prestigious tracks in the world.

In the early 80s, Ducati Motor Holding SpA went into decline and was absorbed by the Cagiva concern. Thanks to this, the range of bikes is expanding and enduro bikes are appearing. Since 2012, the Ducati brand has been owned by Audi AG.

In Russia, the most racing of ordinary motorcycles can be purchased through a network of official company representatives. This is , and . In the line of supersport models, it is worth highlighting the Ducati 1199 Superleggera. This is a limited edition of 500 pieces. It is super lightweight due to the use of the latest raw materials: titanium, magnesium, carbon fiber. An engine with a volume of almost 1200 cm3 accelerates the bike at more than 200 km/h.

Ducati Monster road monsters of various configurations are easily recognized by their characteristic birdcage frame. These are easy to control motorcycles for riding on city streets. Each subsequent configuration is more and more advanced.

Enduro is the off-road equipment of the Hyperstrada, Multistrada and Hypermotard series. They feature spoked wheels, extended front fenders and a wide handlebar.

Test drive Ducati996 S

Manufacturability, running and power technical characteristics; design; sporty character and victories in the world Superbike championships, a collection of the most expensive and famous names on the parts of this motorcycle: Ducati-Magnetti Marelli-HyperPro-Showa-Marchesini-Acropovic-Ohlins-Brembo... Oh-ooo, gentlemen, these names can say a lot to people who understand .

Ducati is a motorcycle created on the blessed Earth, which generously gave humanity fantastic geniuses and great treasures of the spirit. Beautiful, intelligent, powerful... it drives beautifully.

Ducati is at the top of the pyramid of brands, technology, and image hierarchy. These are the hi-tech diamonds of our lives...

Ducati 996S, 2002 996 cm3, 136 hp, 290 km/h

On our happy and, at the same time, catastrophic day, we met on the streets of a big city. It was a warm summer day. We drank coffee with her in a café-chantant on the embankment and chatted about the past. The square in front of us was filled with people and lovers. A beautiful Saturday afternoon slowly carried the remnants of poplar fluff and June heat past our table. The sunny face was reflected in her magical steel-braided brake hoses, the eyes of passers-by stopped at her beautiful forms, the birds looked in fascination at the embodiment of their avian deity... “How beautiful she is,” I thought. Yes, a billionaire’s mistress can only be like that... She is thin, graceful, and she gives off an inexplicable excitement... If I had died at that moment for any reason, I would have died a completely happy person...

Ah!...Who's here?!!! I'll dream about something like this, huh? Well, once you woke up and the test drive was agreed in advance, let’s go ahead and sing! It seems the rain is starting…

We met the happy owner of the Ducati 996S and, at the same time, my good friend, exchanged traditional greetings and motorcycles, and set off to the lands of happy hunting... By the way, setting off was not so easy. And not because of my inner awe of this beauty, but because of the fact that with the step up, it won’t start at all. That is, Ducati went further than other motorcycle manufacturers in this matter, because, as a rule, other motorcycles stall when trying to engage a gear with the footrest not retracted, and others do not start without the clutch depressed. However, we must pay tribute to the designers of the 996: a somewhat annoying feature of other Ducati sportbikes (self-retracting kickstand) was nevertheless replaced on this model by a more familiar detail.

“What does inner trepidation have to do with it?” the reader will ask. I’ll answer: for me and many other motorcyclists, sitting at the helm of a Ducati is like sitting behind the wheel of a Porsche or Lamborghini for a car enthusiast, like a violinist playing a Paganini violin, like a KGB man shooting with a Dzerzhinsky revolver... well, you understand what I mean.

I have never seen a more beautiful motorcycle. Made in Italy design. Perfect. Rectangular headlights. Rear wheel console. Neat “ears” of mirrors. Plastic sports mounts. "Floating" brake discs. Die cut in side plates. Triangular “stealth” boost cutouts under the fairing. Reinforced brake hoses. Frame made of chromolybdenum pipes "birdcage". Shiny driver and passenger footrest mounts. And the “waist”, the place where the driver sits, is simply a masterpiece! The unifying word I would use to define the design of this bike is: “Sophistication.” I don’t think it’s worth talking about the fact that design is subordinated to sporting ambitions; it goes without saying.

The fact that Ducati motorcycles are, first of all, “sharpened” for battles on the ring, and only then are civilian objects, I immediately realized when I sat down in the stool-like rigidity of the saddle. The pendants practically did not move under me. Turn the key in the ignition switch located in front of the fuel tank, and then... a sound appears!

Maestro Akrapovic conducts an orchestra of Japanese martial and ritual Polynesian drums. A bolt from the blue! What did you want, for each of the two “pots” there is half a liter of volume?! However, this is only at idle. The seat and handlebars, with throttle grip and adjustable clutch and brake levers, are positioned low. 79 cm in height, legs reach the ground freely. In addition, you may be pleasantly surprised that the load on your hands is not as sadistic as is commonly believed among “gourmets.” My legs, at least my personal ones, were quite expectedly and quite comfortably placed on the footrests. The notorious “butt-arms-legs” triangle for an unprepared driver, according to press materials and rumors, in the case of the 996 personally did not cause me any (!) trouble during the test. And by the way, about pop...

It is necessary to recommend that it be legally prohibited to ride a Ducati with passengers in the back seat. The fact is that it is on the passenger seats of sportbikes that girls look the sexiest. The Ducati passenger seat... it kind of exists... but your “speckled parrot” will sit on it like on a perch, very substantially adjacent to the pilot’s back and causing phenomenal traffic accidents with his thongs peeking out from under his jeans! You can always look at the stars, fire, surf and a beautiful girl sitting number two on a Ducati sports bike! However, okay, I digress. Let's leave the girls to their boys and turn to Ducati.

Subjective admiration for the design and the first pleasant impressions of the light landing should give way to the hormones of happiness from riding one of the most successful sport bikes. I don’t know how many championship titles Ducati has in the “supersports” class today, but certainly more than all the “Japs” combined. We start moving and a unique sound spreads around the Ducati. The vertical take-off seeder enters operating mode. The “dry” clutch, which is used to scare children all over the world, is not at all so hard, the gear shift lever stroke is extremely short and clear, the sound of the “first” being engaged dissolves in the noble thunder from the two nozzles of a very expensive exhaust system. A look in the left rearview mirror... once again... whoa... left turn signal. Go!

By the way, the first desmodromic 125 cc engine with one cylinder appeared at Ducati back in 1958. A two-cylinder version was already prepared for the 1959 season. The idea of a desmodromic engine, which together with the clutch gives this most unique and recognizable sound, is that the valves open and close forcibly, using special cams (it would be more correct to even call this design “Engine with a desmodromic valve drive”). Currently, no one else in the world uses such a system - now it is a characteristic feature of Ducati motorcycles. "Peculiarity of the breed."

Wow! We don't want to go up to 3000 rpm. This is understandable - a sportbike in all its glory and technological delights. I raise the speed and from 4-5 thousand we already feel the smooth work of a herd of more than a hundred horses. I think it would be useful to note: Ducati is the only motorcycle manufacturer that indicates the power value (hp) at the wheel, while others indicate the number of horses at the crankshaft, and a lot of them are lost on the way to the wheel.

First speed... second... third... normal flight! For a sportbike, frisky, but not hysterical, truly sporty acceleration, starting from the second part of the tachometer, is the norm. A sharp, but completely controlled increase in speed and natural curiosity prompts you to look at the speedometer. It’s cool, of course, when numbers are displayed in green paint on a black background, but I didn’t like it. In addition, I have always disliked this feature of sportbikes, when due to the fit and layout of the components, the readability of the instrument panel is not at its best. It's somewhere almost under the chin, but not in front of the eyes. Overall tolerable. But due to such a forward shift of the pilot, unintentionally lifting the front wheel is no longer possible. At least for me.

A small, skinny Ducati, despite its liter of volume, cuts through Kiev weekend traffic on Pobeda Avenue like a hot knife through butter. This “thinness” is due to the two-cylinder four-stroke Testastretta engine with L - shaped camber, which was discussed above. Acceleration and handling are worth the money paid for them. The brake test was also successful. “Successfully” in this case means that I was simply lucky that at the moment I pressed the brake with two fingers I was not leaning too far towards the tank, because it’s not far from the joke when “everyone flew away, but we stayed.” The work of floating discs, Brembo brakes and reinforced hoses may not satisfy only a person who cannot be satisfied with anything at all. The behavior of the motorcycle on public roads is not satisfactory. It stands on rails both in straight lines and on turns, and what is especially surprising is that the wind up to “190” practically does not annoy you even with standard glass. Simply amazing.

A bright motorcycle in yellow paint is visible on the road, like an ostrich among a herd of hedgehogs. Plus strong headlights. Plus sound for those especially gifted = increased safety on the road. We could see the same motorcycle in the movie “The Matrix”. Reboot" when Trinity and the Master of Keys fled from pursuit along the highway. That's it... exactly this 996th Motz took part in this episode. Only the noble green color, even if it somehow would have suited, perhaps, some “Gelding”, then such fast and “evil” bikes are still better painted in colors that are more noticeable on the road.

The road... the road... that day we didn’t get to our nightmare “Chaika” with its monstrous bump stops named after the “Emergency Hospital of Kiev”. Instead, I got to watch the hocus-pocus of sealing a tire. There was a screw lying on the road, and the rear wheel of the beautiful Ducati picked it up. The excellent Contiforce tires held the air as if nothing had happened, so the screw was noticed almost by accident. Thanks to him, an action amazing in its speed was carried out. The safety clamp is removed. Once. The nut is unscrewed at 46. Two. The wheel is removed. Three. Faster - only in Formula 1.

While the tire was being changed, the excitement from the drive subsided somewhat and gave way to light sadness. I fell in love with this motorcycle. Would I trade my Hayabusa for a 996? Probably not, though. I would buy the 996 as a second bike. And the third one I would take is the Gold Wing for range. The lip is not stupid, is it?

Yes, you can own such a motorcycle. This is not just a bike. This is a symbol. Like a diamond tie clip or a Konstantin Washeron watch. This is a pass to a new world. No need to fly to another planet. The new world is here. Owning a beautiful Ducati is like owning a super model. Expensive, you will suffer for your money, but everyone will look at you with envy or irritation, or with regret, but EVERYONE will look at you. No one, no man, no woman, no child can pass by this beauty indifferently. And so I couldn’t either.

Result:

Acceleration is adequate to the volume, the name of the company and the regalia won in the Super Sport championships.

Handling is excellent. I don't know what more you could wish for.

Comfort - I liked it. Not at all as sadomasochistic as I expected.

Ergonomics are no worse or better than other “sports”.

The brakes are very sharp. You have to be careful with them.

The design is nothing more beautiful... Perhaps only the 748 Dark and... also Ducati.

Drive (show-off, buzz) - ecstasy. Ecstasy. I was happy with her for just a second, and was immediately cast down from heaven back onto the pavement of Kyiv. My heart is forever broken again...

The first Ducati motorcycles

The first debut took place in 1950. It becomes a 65 cc Ducati 60 Sport motorcycle, with an overhead valve engine whose power reached 2.5 hp. The engine differed from the Cucciolo in traditional gas distribution, had a cast iron cylinder and was connected to a 3-speed gearbox. The engine was mounted on a classic backbone frame. The total weight of the motorcycle was 48 kg. and was capable of accelerating to 70 km/h. January 1952 marks the debut of two more new products: the first is the Ducati 98 Sport, a follower of the lightweight 60 Sport motorcycle, with a 98 cc engine and 5.8 hp. whose speed reached 87 km/h. The second new product was a 174 cc model of the Cruiser scooter, the power of which was 7.5 hp, started with an electric starter, had a hydromechanical gearbox, the design studio “Ghia” worked on the design. Light motorcycles are practically becoming bestsellers, but the technically complex Cruiser scooter was not a success and its production was closed.

In 1954, Fabio Taglioni, a talented engineer Fabio Taglioni, whose importance for the Ducati company is difficult to overestimate, moved to the position of chief designer in 1954. For 30 years, he has led new successful developments and has more than “hundreds” of new power units to his credit. And the outstanding history of Ducati motorcycles is due in part to Fabio Taglioni. The first Fabio Taglioni motorcycle developed by Ducati was the 100 Gran Sport, the design of which became a characteristic feature of all subsequent Ducati motorcycles. The special feature of the 98 cc motorcycle 100 Gran Sport is 9 hp. was in the engine. It differed from its predecessors in the cylinder, which was made of light alloy. The three-speed gearbox was replaced with a four-speed one. The chassis has also become improved; the single tubular frame is locked through the engine crankcase. After modernization, the 80-kilogram 100 Gran Sport reached a speed of 115 km/h, boosting the engine was able to increase the maximum speed to 130 km/h. After the motorcycle was released into mass production, it became incredibly popular among fans of motorcycle racing in the class up to 100cc (mass national races “Marianna”). In the design of the 100 Gran Sport engine, Fabio Taglioni has built a lot of reserve for the future. And in 1956, based on this engine, two new models were produced: the 124 cc 125 Sport and the 175 cc 175 Gran Sport, whose power was already 12 and 16 hp. respectively. A year later, the 204 cc model 200 Elite debuted with a maximum power of 18 hp. After a number of victories in national races, Taglioni is developing a special motorcycle for participation in the World Championship. In 1956, for Grand Prix competition on the basis of the serial 125 Sport, the engine of which was seriously modified, the desmodromic valve drive increased the power from 12 hp. up to 17 hp a system of rocker arms, forced opening and closing of valves instead of springs, was developed. This led to an increase in engine power and speed of 19 hp. at 13,000 rpm. On this motorcycle, Italian rider Alberto Gandossi won two out of seven races, which led to a silver medal at the World Championship. The second Italian athlete Luigi Taveri won the bronze medal. The history of Ducati motorcycles also knows failures; in 1959, Fabio Taglioni developed a two-cylinder 125 cc engine with a desmodromic valve drive producing 22.5 hp. at 13,800 rpm. At the World Championship competition, English motorcycle racer Mike Hailwood takes third place. For competitions in 1960, especially for Mike Hailwood, Fabio Taglioni prepared a two-cylinder 250 cc sports model, the power of which reaches 37 hp. and a maximum speed of 215 km/h. Unfortunately, the motorcycle turned out to be fast, but not reliable enough, and Mike Hailwood was only able to win fifth place at the World Championship. And at the next competitions he switched to Honda motorcycles and won the championship title. This shock spelled the end of Ducati's racing plans. However, previous sporting achievements bore fruit; Ducati motorcycles became known on all continents. Export was established, they were in high demand in

Advantages, disadvantages and estimated cost

The undeniable advantage of the Ducati Diavel bike over its classmates is the flawless interaction of the powerful Testastretta engine with a six-speed gearbox.

We also note that the level of controllability of the Bologna devil is ahead of its time, which, coupled with the highest possible safety of the car, allows you to feel absolute control over the speed and road.

In addition, the owners of the Devil praise the performance of the electronic injection system and the oxygen sensor mechanism, as well as the aesthetic perfection of the motorcycle. The downside is its cost, nothing more.

Ducati iron horses, due to their perfection, have never been publicly available or cheap. What can we say about elite, thoroughbred horses, which is Diavel.

At the moment, official dealers are asking from one and a half million rubles for such a “stallion”.

For those who want to get maximum pleasure with a minimum investment, there is a secondary market for motorcycles, where the Italian Devil can be purchased at a bargain price, starting from 300,000 rubles.

Diavel

“Ducati is a global brand with an incredibly strong reputation that embodies the spirit of sport, outstanding design, love of beauty and the ability to awaken passion,” said Domenicali during the presentation. “Every day, our dealers, with a total of more than five thousand employees, demonstrate their commitment to the brand and offer high-quality equipment to motorcyclists from 93 countries. 2022 was the best year in the brand's history and the culmination of eight years of continuous growth. With the new 2022 model range, we continue our “Italian symphony”, which is more harmonious than ever – we have breathed life into our fantastic motorcycles,” added Domenicali.

First up was the new Ducati Scrambler 1100, along with its standalone Special version. The new product was created under inspiration from the world of custom. The sport version of this motorcycle and new versions of Scrambler Mach 2.0, Desert Sled and Street Classic were also presented.

Next up was the 959 Panigale Corse, keeping in the tradition of Ducati's twin-cylinder sportbikes. This bike was brought to the stage by Chaz Davies, SBK World Series driver, who flew to Milan straight from Doha, Qatar, where the final round of the WSBK Series took place. Davis finished second in both the final race and the championship overall.

Another new motorcycle for 2022 is the Multistrada 1260, powered by the brand's 1262cc Testastretta DVT engine, with new chassis tuning, more modern electronics and a restyling that includes side fenders and sports wheels. The multibike from Ducati is offered in several versions: the S offers semi-active suspension, and the S DIAir offers maximum safety thanks to the integration of a jacket equipped with an airbag. In addition, there is a Pikes Peak version - the sportiest version of the Multistrada with Ohlins mechanical suspension and reinforced aluminum wheels. During the event, Domenicali also revealed the Multistrada 1200 Enduro Pro, XDiavel and Monster 821, presented to the press a week before the presentation.

The main highlight of the show was the S version of the Panigale V4 motorcycle, a factory bike very close in its characteristics to the MotoGP series motorcycles. It was presented by test driver Michele Pirro. This is the first mass-produced Ducati with a four-cylinder engine based directly on the Desmosedici GP. These motorcycles are produced in limited editions, each equipped with a unique identification number, titanium exhaust and original livery.

Ducati Monster 1200R

2022 Ducati Monster 1200 R The Ducati Monster 1200 R is based on the original water-cooled Monster 1200 concept and features several enhancements.
It still uses the Multistrada Testastretta engine, but by installing a thinner gasket between the cylinders and the crankcase, the compression ratio has increased by half a point. The L-twin engine allows more fuel and air through larger throttle valves, which are now 56 millimeters in diameter versus 53 millimeters on the S model. As for the exhaust system of the Ducati Monster 1200 R, the diameter of the main exhaust pipe has increased by 8 millimeters, also The motorcycle is equipped with new mufflers that not only release more exhaust gases, but also look thinner and more pleasing to the eye. The motorcycle complies not only with the Euro 4 standard, but also with legal requirements regarding noise. A special coating on the pistons and a new clutch cover helped reduce engine noise.

The R version produces 160 horsepower and 131.5 Nm of torque

Ducati says the Monster 1200 R produces 160 horsepower and 131.5 Nm of torque, up 10 percent from the 1200 S, which boasts 145 horsepower. (as a side note, last year the S produced 128.3 horsepower at the rear wheel and 112 pound-feet of torque on the dyno). The engine has certainly become faster overall, but especially in the mid-range and at the top. It's also worth mentioning that the ignition and fuel delivery have been calibrated for more precise throttle operation. As a result, the driver feels the rear tire better. We also really like the exhaust sound, it's more powerful and not as tinny as the standard 1200.

Conquering the world market

England and USA. But these markets required more powerful motorcycles with larger engine displacements. Especially for this segment, in 1961 they produced a 249 cc, 18-horsepower motorcycle, the 250 Monza, with a top speed of 130 km/h. In 1964, this motorcycle was improved and released under the Ducati 250 Mach 1 brand - which became the fastest motorcycle in the 250 cm3 class. that time. The motorcycle had a 27-horsepower engine and a five-speed gearbox, and this 116-kilogram motorcycle accelerated to 150 km/h. And in 1965, a powerful 20 horsepower 340 cc model 340 Sebring was produced for the American market. Unlike the American market, the Italians in the 60s enjoyed extraordinary popularity with “chiclomotors”, these are motor scooters with an engine capacity of up to 50 cm3 and a speed limit of up to 40 km/h. Driving which did not require a driver's license. The first Ducati model of this cluster was a 48 cc Piuma moped with a two-stroke engine, rated at 1.3 hp. which was released back in 1063. The following year, the company releases the 48 Sport light motorcycle model with the same engine. Next comes the 48 Brio-9 scooter with a 48 cm3 engine. They were extremely popular because there was no need to obtain a license to drive these vehicles. A little later, Ducati released versions of these devices with two-stroke 79 and 94 cc engines. In 1968, Ducati once again surprised its competitors by introducing desmodromic valve actuators into series production! This design is installed directly on the Desmo engine variant: the first is a 249 cc 22 horsepower with a maximum speed of 140 km/h: the second is a 340 cc 25 horsepower accelerating to 150 km/h. The following year, the company releases a more powerful 436 cc Desmo engine with 27 hp. only in two versions: - with a desmodromic valve drive and a spring one. This model of the Scrambler motorcycle was dual-purpose, with different engine displacements of 124 cm3, 249 cm3, 340 cm3 and the most powerful 436 cc. In the 60s, motorcycles with large displacement gained great popularity. Manufacturers in England, Germany and Japan are developing and starting to produce powerful motorcycles. Italian developers could not remain indifferent to the new trend. In addition, Fabio Taglioni himself was interested in working in this direction. At the dawn of the 60s, he was developing a new four-cylinder, V-shaped, 1260 cc model of the Apollo motorcycle, the power of which reached 80 hp. There were various experiments with two-cylinder power units.

Model range overview

The model has only one purpose - it is a naked bike designed for city roads. It gets the job done perfectly, but don't expect amazing sport or cruising performance.

The motorcycle was not equipped with any wind protection or variable riding position. You can sit up straight, period. The suspension is short and very stiff, and the chassis has a very sharp shape.

It is important to remember that the Italian Ducati Monster 400 bike is inferior to Japanese motorcycles in almost all characteristics. If you don’t particularly care about the character of the motorcycle, its temper, and you just want a vehicle, then the Monster is not for you

If you don’t particularly care about the character of the motorcycle, its temper, and you just want a vehicle, then the Monster is not for you.

It will suit people who are willing to pay more for a real Italian “horse” and not ride another inconspicuous Japanese horse.

At one time, the four hundredth caused more than just a resonance. After its resounding rise, other manufacturers began to create its analogues en masse, thereby confirming the winning concept.

The bike was eye-catching in appearance: the frame was a rough design made of tubes, a la a bird’s “cage,” and the engine was defiantly “exposed.”

At its core, the concept was not new. Such technologies, in a sense, returned the model to its roots and combined race-tested elements. What is the beauty of this beast?

Despite the power and very nimble disposition, the motorcycle is excellently controlled.

Initially, many were afraid of the Monster, as they considered it unsafe; for such people, a year later the developers released the six hundredth model, calmer and slower.

The motorcycle has a very smooth start, the ride itself is smooth and very pleasant (we are not talking about broken country roads, but rather about highways).

If you try, you can get yourself a quick start, but in 2-3 gears the motorcycle won’t be in much of a hurry. And it will only gradually pick up speed.

The bike handles holes very poorly, especially deep ones. It hits the front wheel disc noticeably and can create the feeling that the tire has gone flat. But no, it's just designed for normal roads.

Despite the fact that the early models are already quite outdated, working systems work flawlessly.

The bike is very competently limited in speed: if at 120 km/h you can move calmly without feeling any problems at all, then at 145 km the monster will start howling and you will hardly be able to ride like that for a long time.

After fully mastering the bike, you may be tempted to race it, and the bike may even disappoint you. But everything in this system is not without reason: at 120 km/h you are already moving quickly, but you can calmly control the situation on the road. It's the perfect balance.

Motorcycle Specifications

The motorcycle in all its variations had one big advantage: it was ideal as a first experience.
Now some of its technical characteristics may frankly not please you, but due to its excellent simple controls it copes well with the competition.

However, there are a number of obvious disadvantages that are difficult not to mention.

A motorcycle is very difficult to find on the domestic market, and its technical support will cost you a pretty penny. The fact is that the Monster was sold only in Asia and models often reach us in a fairly shabby condition. The Ducati Monster 400 is distinguished by its lack of versatility, alas.

Its capabilities are as great on the road as they are small on rough terrain.

You must remember the truism once and for all - this bike is only for roads and there cannot be any other options.
