Bagger style motorcycles are a uniquely American phenomenon. This may be why it is difficult to compete with the mass of American manufacturers of these motorcycles. But BMW managed to do it with the release of the K 1600 B. This BMW looks modern and upscale, and under the plastic it is crammed with modern safety and comfort systems. This six-cylinder motorcycle is ready to compete with the Honda Gold Wing (but this is not certain).
Design of the BMW K 1600 B.
Well, let's look at the design of the BMW K 1600 B. Massive front fairing. There are two plastic cases on the sides at the back. In short, a complete body kit. This is not your typical American product. The fairing on this device folds at speed, becoming similar to a sports bike, this is closer to a sports tourer. The side plastic reveals the fiery motorcycle engine. In fact, it only covers the radiator and part of the electronics. The windshield is infinitely adjustable with the ability to change the lift height on the fly. Under the windshield is a dashboard, which consists of a round analogue tachometer and speedometer and two displays showing the operating modes of the electronics. The original design of the steering wheel allows you to control the motorcycle easily and without constraint. The motorcycle has a fuel reserve of 26.5 liters. The saddle height is 78 centimeters, but if this is high for you, you can order a “low saddle” that will lower the motorcycle to 75 centimeters.
The passenger has an equally comfortable wide seat and heated side handles , which can be used to secure cargo in the absence of the passenger. Stylish LED lights are located on the sides of the cases; they serve as both rear lights and turn signals. Low, wide and stable is what comes to mind when I look at this beast. And that's true.

BMW K 1600 B cruiser chassis
The Duolever pendant may seem unusual at first if you are not a long-time fan of the brand.
The basis of the design of the BMW K 1600 B cruiser is an aluminum diagonal frame with an engine suspended on it, which gives structural rigidity without increasing the weight of the motorcycle . At first it may seem like the motorcycle has a regular fork, but if you look under the headlight, you can see a shock absorber with a spring. This is the signature boomer Duolever suspension, the travel of which is 11 centimeters. At the rear there is a Paralever suspension with 12 centimeters of travel. The suspension is adjusted in real time according to driving modes using the Dynamic ESA system. This system improves ride comfort and eliminates the need for pre-settings of the shock absorbers.
The BMW K 1600 B is equipped with 17-inch cast aluminum wheels with 120/70 front and 190/55 rear tires. The fork tilt of 27.8 degrees and the wheelbase of 162 centimeters makes the motorcycle quite stable in motion and also in side winds. This is definitely a plus as the bike has quite a bit of windage even with the windshield down.
Standard ABS distributes force across two four-piston calipers at the front and one single-piston at the rear. All brake discs have a diameter of 320 millimeters. These are pretty cool brakes, but with the bike weighing 214 kilograms, they obviously won’t be superfluous to stop this power. And a little twist. The standard Hill Start Control Pro system brakes the rear wheel, which helps when starting off on an incline.
New bagger BMW K 1600 B
The emotional and exclusive new K 1600 B with the familiar 160 hp 6-cylinder in-line engine from other models in the K 1600 series.
Dynamic and elegant look: a distinctive stretched silhouette with a low rear section and powerful color schemes.
In terms of design, the new all-black K 1600 B takes on the shape of a bagger, an exclusive custom motorcycle popular in the southern United States. Characteristic features of this style include an elongated teardrop silhouette, the top of which is the front fairing, and narrow but deep side cases with integrated American-style taillights. The new full chrome mufflers are positioned parallel to the road and fit seamlessly into the overall concept of the motorcycle.
The new K 1600 B is based on the technologies found in the 6-cylinder touring motorcycle BMW K 1600 GT, but differs from it in its exciting design with a sloping top line and a completely redesigned rear section. All this not only makes the bagger visually low and refined, but also allows the height of the passenger seat to be lowered by 7 cm due to the new rear subframe.
Side cases with new luggage compartments and a folding rear wing for easy wheel removal.
Redesigned luggage compartments in the side cases with narrower lids and deep bodies ensure comfortable and efficient loading of items. The rear fender can be folded up, which greatly facilitates the process of removing the rear wheel.
The fairing of the new K 1600 B with its compact wind deflector gives the motorcycle a powerful and impressive appearance. The extended deflectors on the sides guarantee particularly effective protection against wind and bad weather and also provide good protection for the driver's hands. Side mirrors with large aspherical elements are also made in accordance with the overall design concept and provide an excellent overview of the situation behind the motorcycle.
Dynamic ESA electronic suspension with adaptive damping as standard.
Thanks to the electronically controlled Dynamic ESA suspension with two modes – “Road” and “Cruise” – the new K 1600 B combines comfort, directional stability and high dynamics at the same time. In the standard "Road" mode, the shock absorbers operate in fully automatic adaptive mode and provide high comfort combined with maximum grip on all surfaces. For contrast, the K 1600 B also features a “Cruise” damping mode, guaranteeing maximum comfort at low speeds.
New reverse mode for comfortable maneuvering.
Even an inexperienced driver can maneuver the K 1600 B with ease thanks to the new reverse mode. It is activated by pressing a button conveniently located on the left remote control. The motorcycle then starts moving in reverse when the driver presses the engine start button.
Comfortable footrests provide a relaxed driving position.
As with other BMW Motorrad motorcycles, the new model is also available with a wide range of optional accessories to simplify the personalization process. The list of options includes more comfortable footrests for the passenger, which can also replace the driver's ones. They provide an even more relaxed, foot-forward riding position. The bagger's exclusive look is completed by newly designed forged wheels with 11 spokes each.
Engine BMW K 1600 B
The heart of this BMW cruiser is an in-line six-cylinder engine suspended transversely on the frame at an angle. This simultaneously visually reduces the size of the engine and allows it to be placed more compactly. Like most liquid-cooled engines, it does not look very aesthetically pleasing, so it was decided to paint it black.
A high-revving engine with a total volume of 1649 cubic centimeters with a cylinder diameter of 72 mm and a piston stroke of 67.5 mm, its compression ratio is 12.2. Block head with 24 valves - 4 valves per cylinder, which gives good cylinder purging and a good increase in power. The Ride-by-Wire system is also installed. It operates in three driving modes – “Rain”, “Road” and “Dynamic” at the discretion of the pilot. There is another system - Dynamic Traction Control. It prevents the wheel from slipping if the pilot turns the throttle too hard. And cruise control also adds comfort. Oh, this feeling when you don’t have to turn the gas on a long drive.

BMWbaggermotorcyclesport touringtest drive
The Motonews.ru portal was the first in Russia to test the newest motorcycle from BMW Motorrad! We present an exclusive test drive of the BMW K1600B 2022 bagger.
This futuristic device outwardly claims to be a “distant relative” of the Honda bagger and Harley-Davidson Street Glide. In fact, everything is not like that. It is only in appearance that it resembles its two-wheeled counterparts. In fact, it is a spaceship disguised as a motorcycle.
Its six-cylinder engine (160 hp) will make you feel like you are driving not a motorcycle, but a two-wheeled car. Ya ya, smooth and even traction, from the very bottom, and throughout the entire range, gives just such a feeling. You clearly imagine that you are driving a luxury sedan, only the sedan has no roof and has two wheels.
But before you set off, you have to realize that the world will never be the same. A unique pendant will hint you about this. Imagine: you are sitting on a large and heavy touring bike, not going anywhere, just rocking the motorcycle at neutral speed, and from the sensations that the suspension gives you, it already seems to you as if you are sitting on a stretched string that responds to your every movement , and on the road the understanding of controllability becomes even more intuitive.
The pop-up glass, color LCD instrument panel, coupled with adaptive headlights, two-way quickshifter and ergonomic handlebars... and low center of gravity... amaze the imagination and give an idea of what a modern motorcycle should be like. And against the general background, you immediately understand that the K1600B bagger is not a motorcycle, but still a starship. Even the gas tank hatch (26.5 l, 4 l - reserve) will open only when the bike is turned off and the key is next to the motorcycle...
Of course, the price of 2 million rubles immediately says that the motorcycle is not accessible to everyone, but when compared with its competitors, it is very attractive. You can understand this only by writing out all the technologies and functionality in a column...
There is no point in questioning current and modern design - either you like it or you will love it. Even the headlights and the dashboard are very similar in design, especially at night...))
Probably, someday, in the distant next version, the footrests and steering wheel will have a position memory function, like seats in modern cars.))) I sat down, turned it on, bam - and your glass and footrests are adjusted...
Of the small shortcomings, there is perhaps one - the ergonomics of reverse speed control. Reverse speed is also available here, it is implemented by an electric motor and is activated from the “R” button, provided that at the moment of activation the bike is in “neutral”, the subsequent movement back is carried out by pressing the start button, which is not good... After all, it would have been much better to implement a reverse speed activation button and a movement start button with one double toggle button... so that the “R” button has two humps - the bottom is “activation”, and the top half is “movement”. So as not to tie both the reverse speed and the important start button to one button.
However, the BMW Motorrad K1600B bagger is extremely technologically advanced and comfortable for both the pilot and the passenger.
This motorcycle is undoubtedly an excellent purchase, which allows you to get a vivid impression of the journey, to feel that you are not riding, but flying above the road.
Let us remind you that most of the technologies were borrowed from the K 1600 GT tourer. Externally, the rear part of the motorcycle has undergone the greatest changes. The bike also has a different subframe and a different, lower passenger seat.
The 1632 cc inline-six engine produces 160 horsepower. Three driving modes are available - Rain, Road, Dynamic. The set of standard systems includes Dynamic Traction Control, Dynamic ESA with Road and Cruise modes and other, already optional, systems.
