How to make an air filter for a scooter with your own hands


Method one

Buy an air filter element for a VAZ car equipped with an injector. Stock up on sealant, scissors, a ruler and a pencil. Then do the following:

  1. Using a knife, cut out the worn out filter material.
  2. Clean the frame in which the cut material was located, then treat the surface with alcohol.
  3. Take measurements of the width, height and number of curtains.
  4. Take a new air filter (for an injection VAZ), disconnect its curtains and cut off the required amount.
  5. Adjust the width of the filter material using a ruler and scissors.
  6. If the height of the new curtain is higher than necessary, carefully bend the material.
  7. We coat the edges of the filter curtain with sealant and place it in the filter housing.
  8. When the sealant has dried, the filter device can be safely used.

The second one I decided to make was a rather popular version with the addition of red. I often see such motorcycles (in terms of color) in my life.

The blue color is also popular, and the color is beautiful.

But green may not be so popular, but it is my favorite color.

Cylindrical device
We have figured out how to create a rectangular filter element, now we move on to making a cylindrical air filter with our own hands. Let's take an oil filter device for the Moskvich KS-71 as a donor filter. We perform the following manipulations:

  1. We disassemble the filter device.
  2. Remove the paper inside.
  3. Instead of a paper curtain, we place a paint roller; it is permissible to leave a paper curtain.
  4. For the plug we use the cap removed from the can for cleaning carburetors.
  5. We buy a gardening hose of a suitable diameter so that it can fit onto the carburetor to connect to the carburetor.
  6. We assemble the structure.
  7. Cap the free end of the filter device with a plastic bottle of suitable diameter.

Combined coal option

For some reason, coal elements are not produced on the Volga, so those made by hand are doubly valued.

You will need: a simple padding polyester filter and a universal carbon filter for kitchen hoods, activated carbon.

Method three


An alternative to the “nulevik”
The air filter creates additional resistance in the path of the intake air flow. To overcome this resistance, the engine has to expend additional force, and the engine power deteriorates. This problem is overcome by using a zero-resistance filter device. The downside of the “nulevik” is its cost, which is several times higher than the price of conventional filter elements.

It is possible to make a zero-resistance air filter with your own hands. You can make it from a Moskvich filter, the model is not important. We take sealant, a stationery knife, a round CD box. It is worth mentioning right away that a device made with one’s own hands will only superficially resemble a “nulevik” for a car; in other respects, it will not differ from a regular Moskvich air filter.

Engine malfunctions

Engine won't start

. If we are talking about a gasoline engine, when troubleshooting, it is necessary to consistently check all possible causes of problems, namely:

The supply of fuel to the engine cylinder may be indicated by the condition of the spark plug, which in any case must be checked when troubleshooting the ignition system. The spark plug is unscrewed from the cylinder cover, having previously disconnected the wire, and inspected. If it is dry, this means that the fuel mixture is not supplied to the cylinder. And if before this it was established that gasoline is entering the carburetor, then the reason for the engine not starting may be in the carburetor. contamination of its filter mesh, clogging of the nozzle or some other malfunction. Whatever it is, the carburetor needs to be removed, disassembled and cleaned, but this device is very complex and before repairing it you should at least look at the carburetor diagram.

A wet spark plug indicates that fuel is entering the cylinder. Sometimes the walk-behind tractor does not start due to an excess of fuel mixture, so if there is too much gasoline on the spark plug, you need to dry the cylinder by thoroughly “pumping” the engine with a manual starter with the spark plug turned out. Before doing this, you need to shut off the fuel supply.

Method four

For home production of a filter device, you can use the following algorithm:

  1. We take an iron box of suitable size.
  2. We make a lot of small holes in it, no need to drill the bottom
  3. We make a fastening for the lid. In a rectangular box, you can attach the lid with screws.
  4. Cut an oval hole in the bottom corresponding to the hole on the carburetor.
  5. We take the mesh, cut it to the required dimensions and place it on the bottom of the box.
  6. We take a sponge, adjust it to the required dimensions, then soak it in a special oil for about 1.5 hours.
  7. We remove the rubber gasket from the old filter, install it on the carburetor, and attach our box on top.
  8. Place a sponge on top of the box mesh, having previously wrung it out.
  9. Close the lid of the box and secure it.
  10. We put a simple women's stocking on the top of the box of our homemade filter device; it should not come into contact with the carburetor.

What was considered the most useful thing in rural areas? Of course, it was a means of transportation; the village couldn’t do without it, and everyone understood this. Everyone had their own, some rode and carried loads on a horse, and many preferred cars. But in the USSR, a car was a luxury and not every family had it. Then ingenuity and various devices were used, because the hay would not arrive on its own, and for small things, transport was always needed there. This was also understood by the engineers of the Tula Machine-Building Plant, who in 1959 produced the Ant scooter, which was indispensable for those years. The scooter was a three-wheeled structure with a seat and all controls at the front and a cargo platform at the rear.

The engine on the scooter was single-cylinder, its volume was 199 cubic centimeters and the power was 11 hp. This was enough to transport a load weighing 340 kilograms. The engine was started using a starter or kickstarter. The engine runs on fuel, which consists of a mixture of oil and gasoline. For fuel there is a tank measuring 13 liters. A scooter consumes about 6-7 liters of fuel per hundred kilometers. An ant moves at a maximum speed of 60 km/h. The scooter has a four-speed manual transmission, with one reverse gear.

You must always remember that a motorcycle is a combination of a large number of factors. This includes rubber, a chain with sprockets, pads, the brake system itself, and now oil, filter, clean carburetors, undiluted gasoline and finally CLEAN AIR.
