Review of the Suzuki DR 800 S Big motorcycle
I’ll say right away that I didn’t have much time until I fully knew my friend’s character, but I’ll write what I already understood and felt. The first thing that struck me was the very smooth engine at low speeds, and locomotive traction from the very bottom. But on the other hand, after 6000 rpm the engine is very playful and quickly picks up speed.
In the city, operating speeds do not rise above 5000; on the highway, if you drive 120 km in fifth gear, then the speed is 4500. Surprisingly, in the city it is very comfortable on a motorcycle. Firstly, you sit almost at the height of an SUV, i.e. you can see everything very well (and if you get on your feet, then finally) The power reserve allows you to easily give the gas when changing lanes and not be afraid that the car will catch you. Suspensions allow you to go where you want to go and not have to look for a better road surface. Well, that’s all for now, I haven’t gone into the forest yet, because I’m waiting for the arches to be made, since I’ll have to fall on it in the forest more than once...
Heavy Enduro, in a word, a tank, a tractor. The Japanese make technology - always with a direct purpose. The purpose of this is long-range with elements of all-passability, which means a huge tank, low consumption (5.5 for me), does not consume oil unless the engine is revved..., healthy ground clearance,
Relatively low speed of 120 - comfort, the presence of wind protection, as much as is permissible for an “enduro”) Load capacity and traction are quite good, gears are clear, it’s quiet, not annoying - just what you need for flights and motorcycle rallies in a variety of conditions!
A consequence of the main purpose of this device are also disadvantages on the highway:
- rather weak brakes (road, sports - they will say none))
- when trying to spin a huge single-cylinder engine in search of a maximum speed of 165 or so - vibration!
— by the way, a driver under 180 cm in height will encounter problems with the saddle height)
So, in prices today from 130 to 200 thousand, DR800 holds its position to this day. I recommend it to those people who care about the idea - to the village, from it, fishing, sightseeing, going to Baikal, etc. In appearance, he simply exudes tourism, and the traffic cops always treated me personally with tolerance, more like some kind of military man, and not a city hooligan)
I drove all summer. I didn’t go on asphalt. And it’s not for asphalt. On gravel, arable land, forest roads - this is his element. I drove on the grader up to 120 km/h, like on a steamship. But it is demanding on tires. The rear balloon is bad - it constantly breaks. We have to be more careful. The design is controversial, but practicality is more important to me. I chose between Africa, Transalp, Tenere, and chose Doctor. I don't regret it yet.
Suzuki DR 800 S Big
Brief review of Suzuki DR 800 S Big
Suzuki DR 800 S Big, more often found under the name simply DR 800, is an enduro touring motorcycle with a rather unusual design. In the steel frame of this model, the designers placed a single-cylinder air-oil-cooled engine, which is a slightly modified internal combustion engine from the previous model - DR750S Big. This motorcycle is a touring enduro with good off-road capabilities, which to a certain extent distinguishes it from many modern models of this class, designed for movement on, albeit poor, asphalt.
Released in 1990, the Suzuki DR 800 is distinguished by a gas tank increased to 29 liters, which provided the motorcycle with an additional power reserve, but from the next year the tank was reduced to 24 liters, in addition, the plastic, exhaust, swingarm, seat and dashboard were changed. Since 1992, the DR 800 began to be equipped with a reinforced fork, and since 1995, new carburetors equipped with a throttle position sensor. The motorcycle existed in this form until it was discontinued.

- Honda XRV 750 Africa Twin

Reviews about Suzuki DR-BIG
Che
(23.10.2009) I wanted to hear an opinion on how suitable the DR650-750 is for traveling far. I am confused by the following points: - single-barrel gun, vibrations and, as a result, discomfort when driving - air cooling - Suzuki is not a Honda. I am interested in practical experience of using it while traveling. Thanks in advance.

- single-barrel, vibrations and, as a result, discomfort when driving...
single-barrel means a simple engine that does not need to synchronize the carbs, buy a bunch of spark plugs, or adjust the valves for hours.. The low-frequency vibrations of single-barrels are less tiring than the high-frequency resonant vibrations of multi-cylinder ones.
Especially on civilian motorcycles. - air cooling...
the motorcycle weighs less, there is no risk of damaging the radiator and getting stuck in a deep forest.
If you don’t skimp on oil and check its level, there won’t be any problems. Air cooling did not stop Porsche from installing several turbochargers and producing more than 1000 hp. for cars at the 24 Hours of LeMans... - Suzuki is not Honda...
and thank God, it’s not clear what Honda is doing lately... By the way, DR650 and DR750-800 are very different motorcycles.Che
In general, I found out for myself what the difference is between 750 and 800. I decided to buy the Dr800. Tell me, in what year did they start installing an upgraded fork on the DR800?

Ha!!! I have a DR800 and have already twisted and felt a couple. I remade mine by Malekho. WP Extreme 50 mm fork, titanium exhaust with Benelli Tornado, redesigned arch bars, two sets of supermoto and offroad wheels, in short the list is long. Give me the phone number, I’ll give you the information through the roof. Look for DR800 1991+, subtype SR43A. Well, or SR43B as a last resort. Fork 43 mm. Go to kickstarter.org and see the thread about my BD. I now have 100,000 km on the engine, 30 of which are definitely mine. The engine was not touched. In short, I know almost everything about DR Big, practical experience. Offroad training - done. Riding on a cross-country track - done. Winding through the forest and quarries, puddles, etc. — there is a Fall on the paving stones, I picked it up and went on — there is Norway 2008 with my wife and luggage, 5500 km — there is Norway alone, 2009b 6200 km — there is 400 km as an easy walk with my wife around the neighborhood — easily In short. I don’t know of an alternative to the slightly sharpened DR800. The stock muffler weighs 14 kilos. I dropped 11 from my moto by changing it. 192-11=181 kg dry weight, very worthy. And I made it a little easier... sorry, I got carried away.

Why I chose DR800 There were 2 reasons: 1. The budget was up to 5000 USD. 2. I want something universal, so that I can drive through the forest and ride off into the sunset.
initially I was looking towards the DR650, but then the Bluesman convinced me to take the DR800 - and I listened to him and took it
Where did I buy it? The motorcycle is rare in our open spaces and therefore definitely brought from abroad. I had a choice of either buying in Poland or bringing it from Germany. I decided not to buy from Poland, since it can’t cost that much there smile.gif As Dima Fanatic said, it was more profitable for the Poles to sell the equipment they sell to Europe in parts than to sell it entirely. In general, it was dumb and I settled on Germany. I chose the motorcycle on mobile.de, Vitaly brought it to me from Mukachevo, for which I thank him.
Technical characteristics Year of manufacture according to the technical passport 1995, according to VIN 1994 Model Suzuki DR 800 SR43A SR43A - means that this is a pan-European model, i.e. the least strangled. Motorcycle Suzuki DR 800S Big 1991 review
The description of the Suzuki DR 800S Big 1991 motorcycle is in the queue for publication of the article. Announcement: Today, for almost every new motorcycle that comes into being, marketers strive to carve out their own niche. This one is a road sport, this one is a recreational enduro. But what class should we include a motorcycle that has a little bit of everything? A good bike should have a reliable engine, comfortable ergonomics and simple controls...
Suzuki DR 800S Big is a motorcycle rarely sold in Russia, equipped with a high-power 50hp engine. Despite the fact that good models of motorcycles have a very respectable price, and the season for their use is relatively short, the motorcycle market is developing rapidly. And if you believe the words of dealers, then some models of recently released motorcycles are selling like hot cakes at the beginning of the season, and the models brought to Russia are clearly not enough to fully satisfy consumer demand.
A motorcycle has long ceased to be an alternative to a car, and the times when this equipment was bought only because there was not enough money for a full-fledged car are forgotten. Nowadays, two-wheelers can be called technological marvels in many cases, and their cost can be compared with that of prestigious cars.
Many people have started buying motorcycles for hobby purposes as riding or even collecting them has become a good pastime for many people. Many motorcycles, for example the Suzuki DR 800S Big, whose technical characteristics make it possible to call the model a prestigious brand, are in demand among both beginners and experienced motorcyclists.
Currently, it is impossible to purchase a new Suzuki DR 800S Big motorcycle from the 1991 model year, since their production stopped 25 years ago. At the same time, the Suzuki DR 800S Big has excellent technical characteristics, so many people strive to purchase, if not a new, then at least a used version.
Motorcycles with an engine capacity of 779 cc. see, appeared as a result of long work of inventors who sought to create a model that was not inferior in characteristics to other versions of the motorcycle. In some cases, these models are not only not inferior, but also ahead of other motorcycles, as they have minimal fuel consumption and other excellent parameters.
Motorcycles with an engine capacity of more than 400 kb. cm, which includes the Suzuki DR 800S Big - this category of motorcycles simply cannot claim the title of “motorcycle for a beginner.” On the contrary, this is already a serious technique that requires certain control of motorcycle equipment with a smaller engine capacity. Yes, she attracts more attention, she is the most beautiful, fast, interesting and there is a huge selection of models. But as power increases, the weight of the motorcycle inevitably increases. In this class you are unlikely to find motorcycles lighter than 180 kg, unless they are the latest motorcycle models.
