Yamaha WR125R (2009-2014) | Yamaha WR125X (2009-2014) |
Model series Yamaha WR 125
appeared in 2008, introducing two models at once -
Yamaha WR125R
(enduro) and
Yamaha WR125X
(motard). The models were aimed mainly at the European market, have a common base and are built on an engine from the Yamaha YZF-R125.
The enduro modification of the Yamaha WR125R features 18′ and 21′ wheels, a front brake disc with a diameter of 240 mm, increased front suspension travel (240 mm), a gas-oil rear shock absorber and a curb weight of 133 kg.
The motard version of the Yamaha WR125X has 17′ road wheels, a larger front brake disc diameter (298 mm), reduced front suspension travel (210 mm), an oil-oil rear shock absorber and a curb weight of 137 kg.
Common to both motorcycles in the WR125 series is a steel duplex frame, a simple (non-inverted) fork, spoked wheels, an 8.5 liter fuel tank, a fuel injection system and a 6-speed gearbox.
2014 was the last year of production of the models, although sales of new motorcycles continued for several more years. Currently, models of the WR125 series are not found on the Russian market - obviously, this is due to the high price and, as a result, the inappropriateness of the purchase.
The main competitors of the Yamaha WR 125 in the class:
- Honda XR 125
- Kawasaki KLX 125 / Kawasaki D-Tracker 125 / Kawasaki D-Tracker 150

Chassis and brakes
The frame of this model is made of steel. The exterior is carefully detailed, such as the front fork being neatly covered and the rims being gold in color. The steering wheel has a classic shape. It is hardly possible to imagine a more aesthetically pleasing motard. However, people who want a more modest bike are unlikely to pay attention to the WR 125.
The rear suspension is pendulum and has a monoshock absorber. At the front there is a telescopic fork with an impressive travel of 210 mm. The WR 125 brakes using a 220 mm rear disc with a single-piston caliper and a 298 mm front disc with a two-piston caliper.

For whom
Here are the main features of the Yamaha WR 125:
- attention to detail, also evident in design;
- engine power comparable to that of some sportbikes;
- large saddle height relative to overall dimensions.
The last point makes the model suitable for tall people who, for one reason or another, want to purchase a light and not particularly powerful bike for city traffic. However, the Yamaha WR 125 has more than enough performance, considering that the engine is only 125 cc.
Characteristics of Yamaha YBR 125
The ideal motorcycle for a beginner is one that is not expensive and not too fast. Such a motorcycle is much easier to control in city conditions, it will not make sudden jerks and will be easier to control.
One of these is the Yamaha YBR 125 (EBR 125) motorcycle. Ebrik will help you learn to stay in the flow, change lanes and move between the rows, you will be able to enjoy driving motorcycles to the fullest. It was on this model that many novice motorcyclists grew up, who later switched to more powerful devices.

Advantages and disadvantages
+ Low cost; |
+ Low fuel consumption and repair costs;
+ Good control control;
+ Ease of maintenance;
— Dim light from the headlight installed at the factory; — Sometimes the engine overheats in hot weather. Main settingsThe engine of the Yamaha EBR 125 is four-stroke, air-cooled, the number of cylinders is 1. Volume - 124 cubic meters. cm, power - 10 l. s., torque - 9.6 Nm at 6000-7800 rpm. The maximum speed of the ebrik is 110 km/h. The first gear allows you to accelerate to 30 km/h, and then shift every 10-20 km. The gears are quite short and you have to switch them quite often to gain good speed. By the way, the motorcycle has 5 gears. The approximate fuel consumption per 100 km for this motorcycle is about 3 liters. The fuel tank holds 13 liters of gasoline. The Yamaha YBR 125 motorcycle has a front tire of 2.75-18 42P and a rear tire of 90/90-18 M/C 57P. Tire pressure with a load of up to 90 kg (i.e. only the driver) is 175 kPa and 196 kPa, and when driving with a passenger it should be 196 and 245 kPa on the front and rear wheels, respectively. If we take the dimensions, the motorcycle has a mass of 117 kg, a saddle height of 780 cm, and a total length of almost 2 meters. The estimated cost in Russia is from 60,000 to 170,000 rubles, depending on the condition of the motorcycle. SpecificationsSome technical characteristics of the Yamaha YBR 125 vary slightly depending on the year of manufacture, but on average they are as follows:
Advantages of a motorcycleControllabilityEase of control of a motorcycle is a very important characteristic for novice bikers; the Yamaha EBR 125 has an excellent one, since it has low weight and power, as well as reliable brakes. It is convenient for maneuvering in city conditions, where there is not enough space on roads and in yards, and it also accelerates confidently. Many motorcycle schools use it as a training model; it is ideal for learning to drive and smoothes out all the mistakes that a beginner can make. ReliabilityThe Yamaha YBR 125 is very simply designed, and you have to try really hard to break it. If the battery suddenly runs out, it starts easily with a pushrod or kick starter. In the event of a breakdown, even a novice motorbike enthusiast will be able to understand what exactly is broken thanks to the elementary design. EconomicalConsidering the fuel consumption is 3 liters per 100 km and the gas tank volume is 13 liters, many owners of the Yamaha YBR 125 refuel once or twice a week. It turns out that a full tank is enough for 350-400 km. It is economical in terms of oil consumption: the EBR 125 only needs to be filled with 1 liter of oil, whereas most motorcycles need to be filled with 2.5 - 3 liters. As for the transport tax, it is much lower for small 125cc motorcycles than for larger ones.
PatencyThe Yamaha YBR 125 performs well on country roads and even off-road. Naturally, this is not an enduro and it will be problematic to overcome a mud pit, but it can handle the rest with ease. If necessary, you can install suitable tires on it and its cross-country ability will increase even more. However, keep in mind that you should not jump on an ebrike; the suspension is not designed for this kind of driving and may break. Well, in case of big difficulties on the way, the YBR 125 can simply be carried by hand, since it weighs a little more than 100 kilograms. Easy to repairSpare parts for the Yamaha EBR 125 are very easy to obtain and are inexpensive. Therefore, in case of damage, you can always repair it without problems. And if you install protective bars on a motorcycle, then it will be almost impossible to cause any harm to it. A common failure among beginners is damage to the plastic headlight fairing when falling to the side. In this case, it is recommended to simply replace the headlight with a round one. All parts for 125 cc bikes are quite cheap, and if you don’t fall or have an accident, you will be able to ride the Yamaha YBR 125 for a long time without repairs. LiquiditySince the start of production of Yamaha YBR motorcycles, they have been actively purchased in Russia, and therefore it will not be difficult to find this model for a small amount and in good condition. And when you outgrow this motorcycle, you can easily sell it. Disadvantages of Yamaha YBR 125Not cool enoughThe Yamaha YBR 125 is by no means a super cool bike. This is an ordinary, simple motorcycle for beginners. Girls on the roads will not stare at you, and any nearby chopper or sportbike will easily outshine you. So just learn to ride without falling, and on the next motorcycle you’ll be able to show off. Not comfortable on long tripsEbrik is good when driving in the city, but when driving on the highway it becomes uncomfortable. Firstly, you won’t be able to accelerate faster than 110 kilometers, and secondly, you will probably be blown away by gusts of wind from passing cars, since the motorcycle is very light. The optimal speed on the highway for this motorcycle is 90 km/h. And by the way, overtaking cars will be problematic, because the motorcycle accelerates very slowly at this speed.
A little history of the modelSince the introduction of Yamaha YBR 125 motorcycles, they have undergone many improvements and changes, becoming better and more reliable. 2004 – launch of sales of the first generation Yamaha YBR 125. In Russia, only versions with a trapezoid-shaped headlight and semi-fairing were sold. Features of this generation are:
2007 - the second generation motorcycles were launched on sale, which did not change much in appearance, but they changed technically:
2008 - the modified third generation Yamaha EBR 125 went on sale, this time the motorcycle is already noticeably different from its predecessors. It had the following features:
2010 - the company developed the fourth generation YBR 125 motorcycle. It has a significantly updated appearance, but these motorcycles are not supplied to Russia. Similar modelsCurrently, there are quite a lot of small motorcycles in the 125 cc class on the market. The motors of other models are approximately similar in parameters, only the build quality differs. Many owner reviews and reviews show that the Yamaha EBR 125 is the most practical in its category. However, if you want to save money, you can consider purchasing similar motorcycles, for example: Cobra Crossfire 125, Baltmotors S1 or Guowei GW125. Keep in mind that even a newly supported ebrik will be more reliable than any of these new motorcycles. |
Yamaha YZ125X 2022
What's interesting about this bike?
It is obvious that the Yamaha YZ125X is based on the YZ125 - both motorcycles have the same frame, tank, plastics, seat, swingarm, transmission, CPG, triple clamps, handlebars and other little things. The Model X has some differences that are designed to make the bike good for off-road racing.
Suspension
The Yamaha YZ125X features a KYB SSS Fork and KYB shock absorber , which are standard on all YZ models. Engineers have tweaked the internal valving settings to reduce damping in both the fork and shock, but the suspensions have the same spring rates as the YZ125 (4.1 N/mm front and 4.6 N/mm rear).
Engine
While the transmission and cylinder are unchanged, the Yamaha YZ125X gets an all-new cylinder head. The new head has a larger combustion chamber volume and a lower compression ratio. The YPVS (Yamaha Power Valve System) also has a stiffer spring and a different exhaust port shape, which delays the opening of the valve and slows the speed at which it opens. Ignition settings have also been changed across the entire rev range. The carburetor was retuned to match the new head and ignition settings.
Yamaha YZ125X off-road adaptation
The Yamaha YZ125X features an 18-inch rear wheel with a wider rim (2.12×18), Dunlop AT81 tires, a 50-tooth rear sprocket (instead of the 48-tooth chainring), an oil seal chain, an aluminum side stand and a fuel tap with reserve mode. .
Cons of Yamaha YZ125X
It's hard to have anything negative to say about this bike, but we do have a few criticisms. The first is that there is no electric starter. This sounds a little hypocritical - I just said how easy and convenient it is to start a motorcycle. Adding a push button starter will add weight to the bike, but it's a very handy feature. Secondly, the X has no protection - it would be nice to install engine protection. And thirdly, I would like the Yamaha YZ125X, as an "X" (not WR) model, to be more sporty. Compared to the YZ250FX, YZ450FX and YZ250X, the Yamaha YZ125X has much softer suspension settings.

Engine
Of all the 125 motocross bikes I've ridden (TM, KTM, Husqvarna and Yamaha), the Yamaha YZ125X has the widest powerband and is the easiest to ride. However, it does not have the same amount of maximum horsepower as other classmates. When we first tried the 125X on a forest path, peak power was the last thing on my mind—we were faced with a slippery, muddy, narrow trail that required maximum control. And the character of the YZ125X engine was just right.
The power of the Yamaha YZ125X engine is even more spread out and linear than that of the YZ125 engine, and this allows you to ride in second gear where a regular 125 would not. Obviously, changes to the engine have shifted the torque peak down, which allows you to ride confidently in second gear. and avoid trees in S-turns and don't overuse the clutch.
I can't even say that I lacked mid-range power. The engine's character is definitely more four-stroke and linear, which makes the mid-range dip less obvious. That being said, you still need to shift a lot more often than 250F, and you need to be aware of what gear you're currently in.
Yamaha YZ125X suspension
It's probably the most comfortable suspension I've ever ridden, but it's a little too soft for me. This is not surprising, I am heavier (98 kilograms) than the rider the Yamaha YZ125X is aimed at. But with the sag adjusted for me, the bike felt well balanced. I could accurately predict how the front or rear wheel would behave when going over ruts, logs, roots, etc. The suspension is very soft, and still has pretty good resistance to hard impacts. It matches the power of the bike really well.
On the other hand, this is the only X model in the line that I don't think will be any fun on the dirt track due to the suspension setup.

Handling Yamaha YZ125X
The Yamaha YZ125X is so light and nimble that I had no problems on forest paths. This is a bike that handles like magic if you need to get through trees and roots. We spend a lot of time on four-stroke motorcycles and forget that two-strokes have much less mass of rotating parts and require much less rider effort to make the bike turn and change direction. Plus, picking up the bike (I've fallen a few times) isn't that hard.
Motorcycle Yamaha YBR 125
Article author: Moto Moto
The Yamaha YBR 125 motorcycle is a modern legend in the field of motorcycle construction. Almost every novice motorcyclist wanted to ride this unit. Yes, its small cubic capacity allows it to remain a full-fledged motorcycle, although at first some people laughed at the brainchild of Japanese engineers. The designers at one time made a real splash by combining in their creation budget components and components of a full-fledged motorcycle, such as reliability and endurance. At the moment, the motorcycle is assembled in China at a Yamaha subsidiary, but this has not affected the quality at all. It still remains at the same Japanese level, thanks to which the YBR 125 is still the cheapest Japanese motorcycle in the entire segment on the market.
You could purchase this motorcycle in 2014, and for just 80 thousand rubles you would have a trouble-free workhorse at your disposal. Motorcyclists from the USSR, whose first motorcycles were Minsk or Voskhod, were extremely pleased with the Japanese automobile industry. The thing is that domestic hardware broke almost every day and did not have the dynamics inherent in a motorcycle. The simplicity of the YBR 125V, like a corn mackerel, does not allow it to break down every day, or rather, almost never. The diamond-shaped steel frame hides inside a two-valve, single-cylinder 125 cc air-cooled engine.
The engine here is carburetor, and the drive is chain and the internal combustion engine is paired with a 5-speed gearbox. There is nothing noticeable about the design of the YBR 125V; it belongs more to the classic segment than to the modern one. The Japanese car's maximum speed is 110 km/h, and it accelerates to it extremely quickly. You shouldn't expect any racing records here, but the bike will certainly surprise you! Among the entire segment of budget small-capacity motorcycles, the leading positions are occupied by the Yamaha YZF-R125 and Yamaha WR 125, which have the best characteristics, but their cost is significantly higher than the simpleton YBR 125.
This motorcycle is a true workhorse of the budget segment, capable of taking the owner from the starting point to the destination point. It makes a great starting point for would-be motorcyclists looking for thrills and adrenaline. Some even manage to travel on this motorcycle, although there is nothing surprising here. The cruising range of this motorcycle is more than 400 kilometers without refueling, and no breakdowns occur while riding, although similar equipment from domestic or other manufacturers is not without breakdowns. This is a phenomenally hardy horse that can last for years without a super dose of attention. Yes, it requires some care, but it is not as capricious as domestic equipment and the most expensive foreign-made motorcycles.
Naturally, some motorcyclists eventually experience a lack of capabilities of this motorcycle, after which they decide to switch to another model. The YBR 125 is rightfully the most popular motorcycle for beginners, confidently competing with the Honda CB 400. Naturally, when purchasing this equipment, you should not expect incredible achievements from it, such that it will compete with the power of a Ducati. If you are focused on purchasing reliable, inexpensive and trouble-free equipment for everyday use, then Yamaha is what you need. Its small dimensions make it possible not to consume excessively much fuel and not hit the owner’s wallet. The motor will successfully break through any traffic jam and deliver the owner to his destination.
