ATVs appeared relatively recently, but quickly became popular.

Due to their high performance, they have become in demand among fans of extreme travel.

And since there is a demand for this type of equipment, many motorcycle manufacturers have started producing them.

ATVs were first introduced by the Japanese company Honda, which is the founder of this motorcycle. But other Japanese manufacturers are not far behind Honda.

Thus, the line of ATVs from another Japanese manufacturer, Yamaha, with models called Grizzly, is in good demand.

Advantages of an ATV

The Grizzly line is quite extensive, which ensures its popularity.

A good option for beginners is the Yamaha Grizzly 300.

This ATV is a utilitarian model that allows you to move without problems in different road conditions.

Cross-country ability is ensured by wheels with good lugs, sufficient ground clearance, and independent suspension.

The power plant, although it does not have significant volumetric indicators, has good torque .

The presence of two trunks provides the ability to carry up to 65 kg of payload while traveling.

Another feature of the Grizzly 300 is its compactness , allowing it to pass where an SUV simply cannot.

At the same time, it is decorated stylishly .

Appearance and design of the ATV

The appearance of the Grizzly 300 is classic for ATVs; the main color of this vehicle is dark green , giving the appearance a touch of militarized equipment, although it is purely civilian.
In addition to green, the ATV is also available in red and blue.

In front of the ATV there is a small protective bumper, from which tubular front suspension protection extends down.

Behind the bumper there are two small round headlights. The front suspension itself is as open as possible to allow for quick cleaning.

In front of the steering wheel, the ATV has one of two luggage racks, with the ability to carry a load of up to 25 kg.

The second trunk, installed behind the seat, has a large load capacity of up to 40 kg.

The wings of the Grizzly 300 are located high above the wheels to prevent dirt from clogging the space between them.

The front and rear wings are connected to each other by a platform for the feet. This was done not only so that the driver and passenger could put their feet on it.

It also prevents dirt flying out from under the wheels from getting on the driver . The seat is designed for two people and has a triangular shape.

The power plant is located almost in the middle of the ATV, under the tank and seat, and is covered on the sides with a plastic body kit.

The gear selector is located on the right near the tank.

The power unit itself is single-cylinder, but with a liquid cooling system.

A variator is used as a gearbox. The Grizzly 300 is driven by only one axle – the rear one , and it is driven by a driveshaft.

The Grizzly 300's front suspension is independent and has a double wishbone design, while the rear uses a pendulum suspension with a monoshock absorber.

The brake system on all wheels is disc, hydraulic.

The first vehicle in the company’s lineup equipped with independent suspension and an injection system was the Suzuki Kingquad 750 ATV - features and characteristics of the model.

Thanks to its engine, this device copes well with overcoming unfavorable terrain.

“Bear” family

The Grizzly ATV series includes 6 models of varying power and carrying capacity. Some models have special technical equipment that others lack.

  1. Grizzly 300 is the most affordable and simple model. The numbers in the name indicate the working volume of the installed engine. Here it is equal to 286 cm3. The younger “Grizzly” is the only one in the line equipped only with rear-wheel drive.
  2. Grizzly 350. The engine capacity of this ATV is 348 cm3. Air-type motor cooling system. The rear suspension has a pendulum design.
  3. Grizzly 450 models are equipped with a 421 cc engine. The rear suspension is independent multi-link. Additional options are also implemented here in the form of electric power steering, an LCD display, and a liquid cooling system. The tank volume is 15 liters.
  4. The Grizzly 550 ATV with a displacement of 558 cm3 received a unique Limited Edition package. Vehicles of this modification are equipped with light-alloy aluminum wheels and an original design is applied. Additionally, the ATVs are equipped with a 20-liter tank and a V-belt drive.
  5. Grizzly 600. The first all-terrain vehicle in the Utility line with an installed 5-valve engine, the displacement of which was 660 cm3.
  6. The latest modification of the “bears” was the Grizzly 700 model - the most powerful, load-lifting and popular ATV in the line.

Model capabilities

The Utility line equipment is actively used as “workhorses”. Utilitarian models are larger than their sporty counterparts, and their squat design gives them away as a wild beast locked in a steel shell. “Grizzly” ATVs received a number of interesting engineering solutions that allowed the device to occupy a leading position in the segment.

The ability to overcome mountainous, forest and swampy areas allowed the device to gain recognition among lovers of extreme types of outdoor activities.

The engine impresses with its powerful thrust and load capacity, which allow the model to be used in farming and agriculture.

When developing the Yamaha Grizzly ATV, Japanese engineers used innovative technologies, trying to provide the brainchild with maximum technical and operational characteristics. As a result, the model received many unique systems and functions.

One of these technologies is the On-Command system. Using this system, you can switch the gearbox to automatic mode and connect all-wheel drive. On-Command provides the user with three transmission operating modes to choose from:

  • rear-wheel drive with differential lock;
  • all-wheel drive with locked differential;
  • all-wheel drive without diff lock.

Severe operating conditions require the installation of a reliable braking system. A hydraulic brake system is installed on the Yamaha Grizzly ATV.

Particular emphasis in the device is placed on controllability and user comfort. This made it possible to use the device both in a work environment and in an entertainment environment. Installing an independent rear suspension made it possible to ensure a smooth ride on any part of the route.

Important. When riding ATVs, you must wear special equipment and a helmet that will protect you from dust and dirt, and also protect you in case of a fall.

Approximate cost

A good advantage of the Yamaha Grizzly 300 is its price.
It is relatively inexpensive , which makes it attractive to extreme sports enthusiasts.

So, the new Grizzly 300 will cost about 240 thousand rubles.

Many who started with the Yamaha Grizzly 300 are moving on to more powerful ATVs, so there is no shortage of Grizzly 300s on the secondary market .

They are sold a little cheaper than new ones, its cost in this market is 170-200 thousand rubles.

The aggressive design and impressive technical performance of the Yamaha Wolverine 450 ATV are harmoniously combined with a high level of driver comfort.

Technical features of the Yamaha Grizzly 700

The updated model went on sale in 2016. The seven hundredth model is a direct descendant of the Grizzly 600. They are built on the same base, but have radically different appearances.

The Yamaha Grizzly 700 received updated fairings for the gas tank, which retained the old volume of 18 liters. The changes did not affect the suspension. The car is equipped with an independent multi-link with triangular arms on adjustable shock absorbers.

If in the old version dual disc brakes were installed only on the front axle, then in the updated version they are located on all wheels. There is also a function to stop the wheels using the engine.

A 686 cm3 engine is installed here, which was also installed on the sports version of the Yamaha Raptor 700R all-terrain vehicle. The engine received new technology: the carburetor was replaced with a fuel injection system. By installing the system, engineers solved a number of problems:

  • Now the engine starts in any weather conditions and engine position;
  • users were freed from the need to regulate its operation;
  • power has also increased.

At the same time, the mechanism did not lose its economic indicators. On the contrary, Yamaha engineers have achieved a reduction in fuel consumption and increased engine life by applying ceramics to the cylinder bore.

The exterior of the car now features LED headlights and the same rear brake light. The updated device was equipped with a flashlight located on the steering wheel. Its light additionally illuminates the path while turning the steering wheel. The large liquid crystal display remains from the previous model.

The developers also worked on the weight of the all-terrain vehicle. The use of lightweight materials in the design made it possible to create the lightest all-terrain vehicle in the entire line.
