>>There are not many things in the world that get better with age. The small list of expensive wines and cognacs, as well as classic cars, has recently been joined by Triumph, which introduced the new Street Triple back in 2012.
More precisely, the model itself debuted back in 2007, and in 2012, having gone through global changes, it actually “froze” in the same form and format in which we know it today. And now, three years later, the motorcycle is still just as relevant and interesting, without requiring any modifications or interventions. However, Hinckley thought differently and released a slightly more “evil” version – Triumph Street Triple RX...
Definitely, lovers of five o'clock tea know a lot about good motorcycles! While the Japanese spend a long time and meticulously creating new models of medium-sized naked bikes, the British have long made one of the best motorcycles in this class today - the Triumph Street Triple! And its RX modification is another loud slap in the face to its island competitors.
For those who skipped our test in April 2013, let me remind you of the main components of a classic English naked bike with a pronounced sporty accent and excellent manners. So, we take expensive and high-quality chassis components (Kayaba, Nissin, Brembo), dilute them with first-class Pirelli Diablo Rosso tires, a little reinforced brake hoses to taste...
Yes, I almost forgot about the quickshifter and switchable ABS! SAI multi-point electronic fuel injection is responsible for the precise operation of the engine, and for particularly demanding and fast guys, Street Triple has... Laptimer!
A huge dial tachometer is the main element of the British dashboard. Its readings are easy to read even from a kilometer away... However, the LCD display also has excellent information content
This exquisite performance from the British is completed by an almost 700 cc three-cylinder engine with a pronounced “bottom”, “tasty” and “meaty” middle and not the saddest character at high speeds - exactly what an angry and intolerant city naked needs!
In the RX modification, the British further emphasized the sportbike roots of the model, so the entire tail section, including the subframe, moved here from the Triumph Daytona 675R. It seems that the designers also borrowed the pilot's seat practically without changes. I must say that this had almost no effect on the comfort of the latter, but now the rider is definitely closer to the motorcycle. And in every sense.
The three-cylinder engine from Hinckley has a very predictable smooth character. For my taste, the engine could use a little more horsepower... On the other hand, the available arsenal within the class is more than enough.
Triumph Street Triple
Triumph Street Triple 675 - review from the owner! A real streetfighter: daring, strange in appearance, but very funny! Honestly about the pros and cons of Triumph. And also a powerful test drive of a motorcycle for all the money! Enjoy watching. Write your opinion and questions in the comments.
Each of us has encountered an object or phenomenon that could definitely be defined as classical. Classic situations, classical art, they are understandable. What allows us to call a motorcycle a classic? Round headlight and lots of chrome? Or maybe it fully complies with the canons of the genre, be it enduro or streetfighter?
You can argue for a long time, however, the Triumph Street Triple 765 RS, in my opinion, is the most classic roadster. As befits a real “Triumph” - with history. The first Street Triple saw the light back in 2007, in 2014 it underwent restyling, and last year, 2017, the motorcycle was updated again. And although the radical improvements claim the title of a new model, I would like to define the new product as another update of the classics, rather than as a fundamentally new model. It is very similar to its predecessor both outside and inside.
Recognition is the main word in today's design world. The categories beautiful/ugly have long faded into the background; the image of a modern motorcycle should be bright, evoking emotions and allowing these emotions to be unmistakably tied to a specific brand. And with this, the Triumph Street Triple 765 is doing just as well as it was 11 years ago - the dual headlight hanging over the wheel cannot be confused with anyone else.
Moreover, the updated motorcycle received a completely diode light, which is why the already original optics began to look even more interesting - the faceted eyes of a predatory insect are exciting! The ensemble of aluminum frame and swingarm with sharp edges also looks great, aggressive and stylish, especially together with the pointed tail and the elegant, deliberately light subframe.
The only thing that causes bewilderment is the mirrors attached to the ends of the steering wheel - what kind of hooligan antics of British punks? Not only are cafe-racer hardware unsuitable for a modern roadster, but getting through traffic jams with them is a complete pain. However, only buyers of the top-end version of the RS, which turned out to be our test, will have to suffer; those who chose the simpler and more affordable versions of S and R will drive like people; the mirrors on these two are traditional.
Or rather, you won’t have to suffer at all - you can replace the mirrors on the RS version, especially since all the other improvements are really worth the money. How many? The difference between the “naked” Triumph Street Triple 765 S and the most charged Triumph Street Triple 765 RS is noticeable, 675,000 rubles versus 890,000. For this difference, the buyer receives an engine boosted by 10 horsepower, three additional modes of electronics operation, top-end suspension, brake mechanisms and a modern color dashboard. Well, terrible mirrors.
In other words, the point of taking the expensive version is obvious, or, at a minimum, making a deal with your own conscience and taking a compromise mid-range package, the price tag of which starts at 760,000 rubles. It's only short of five horses, has decent suspension and a modern dashboard, and if you're not used to constantly driving at the limit, the feeling of lack will not bother you.
Moreover, even the middle version has a new digital dashboard with a color monitor; only the owners of the most budget version will have to bite their elbows. It is similar to the panel of the Triumph Tiger 800 XCa, and is still impressive: the design on the outside is close to the standard, or rather, to the design of a smartphone with a bitten apple on the logo. The interface design, or rather its six options, is no worse. The user can choose any of the preset schemes, within which the priority of displaying this or that information changes and the design of the scales is noticeably different.
And although it stopped being “tomorrow” a few years ago, I still can’t get used to the idea that I have lived to see the moment when there will be a whole computer with a color monitor on a motorcycle. In short, the Street Triple's dashboard is impressive in both functionality and graphics. Impressive for now, but in a few years it will be the same for everyone. Almost like that - adjusting the angle of the monitor will probably remain a British feature; its usefulness is not very obvious.
The remote controls are also unified with the Tiger, so it doesn’t take long to get used to them. The keys are in familiar places, ergonomics and workmanship do not raise any questions. The saddle is comfortable even if you are tall, the handlebars are moderately wide, the saddle is a bit stiff and, together with the high-mounted footpegs, subtly hints at the continuation of the evening. Looking ahead, you will have to spend the evening on Street Triple alone - a girl who agrees to ride on the passenger seat of this motorcycle probably suffers from some kind of disorder; no one in their right mind would climb this peak!
However, what kind of ladies can there be when you actually have a sportbike chassis reminiscent of a Triumph Daytona, top-end brakes, excellent suspension and a 123-horsepower “troika” between your legs? Don't be fooled, 123 horsepower is a lot, especially when the total weight of the bike is just over 183 kg. There really is a lot of engine here, and, unlike its liter counterparts, cranking up the gas all the way is not so scary, which makes it possible to drive very, very quickly. So much so that every now and then you have to ask the next “sport biker” to move in the motorcycle lane on the Moscow Ring Road.
Multipoint injection, electronic throttle grip, quickshifter, lightning-fast growing speeds and almost uniform distribution of torque across the entire tachometer range, with an emphasis on its second half. The main thing is not to forget to set the “correct” Track mode in the dashboard menu; in it, the standard traction is the least intrusive, and the engine, on the contrary, is especially responsive. And forward, even in dense Moscow traffic, the number on the speedometer will drop below two hundred only in standing traffic jams and at traffic lights.
The character of the engine is somewhat similar to the Yamaha MT-09, adjusted for less hysteria, twitchiness and smaller volume, which probably accounts for the slight advantage of the “nine” engine at the bottom. In general, until this year, the Street Triple had few competitors, except for Yamaha only MV Agusta, but this year KTM showed up with its 790 Duke, and next year we will probably see the Bavarian F850R, which is about to be announced.
Be that as it may, the Street Triple is incredibly fast, obedient and thoroughly British, and the magnificent Brembo four-piston radial-mounted opposed calipers and adjustable suspension only add to the charm. I don’t know how things are with the cheaper versions, but the RS can definitely be considered the standard, both among its younger brothers and among its classmates.
Is it worth taking? Most likely, yes, with the only difference that for a long and meaningful relationship, and others with him are impossible, it is better to take RS, and for a romance of 2-3 years, a cheaper version will do, the price on the secondary market is less tied to the richness of the equipment , and a lower price will certainly interest a larger number of potential buyers.
HARMONY
Triumph Street Triple RX is that rare case when there is no reason or space for ordinary journalistic bile. The motorcycle is perfectly balanced, and all its characteristics complement each other perfectly. In fact, the sportbike chassis that moved here from the Triumph Daytona 675R accurately copes with any modes that even the most experienced rider can throw at it.
There is always enough engine for a city motorcycle. Enough, I say! If you think that's not enough, then pay attention to the Speed Triple... but be prepared for the fact that the larger displacement motorcycle will be rougher, less refined in manners and more demanding of the pilot's level. Of course, on big tracks the triple engine will be a little lacking.
Especially in the “200 km/h+” territory, but let me remind you once again that we are talking about a medium-sized naked bike for the city. And it is in the metropolis that the Triumph Street Triple will have almost no competitors. In my memory, this is one of the narrowest motorcycles in terms of overall width, which, combined with its exquisitely tuned chassis, almost exactly the same as the Daytona 675R, makes it one of the most uncompromising killers of traffic and distances. Due to the nature of my profession, I have long lost count of the number of motorcycles I have tested...
But only a few of them sit firmly in my mind, making me smile contentedly in anticipation of a possible trip. The Triumph Street Triple RX is definitely one of them. /
Hi all!
I’ve been wanting to write this post for a long time, it will be the first. So I apologize in advance for possible violations in the design rules; they will be corrected according to precedent. I want to tell you a lot, but I’m afraid that I don’t have the strength to write everything in one post. At the same time, you will tell me whether it’s worth continuing =) This post may be useful to readers who are looking towards Triumph in general and towards Street in particular. I own a 2012 Triumph Street Triple motorcycle. During my ownership, I have accumulated some experience that I am ready to share with readers. I ask everyone who is interested to follow the cut, be careful, there is traffic.
What kind of motorcycle
Dynamics and driving performance.
Here I will describe my personal feelings, the numbers are on Wikipedia. People who have ridden on the street say that this is the best motorcycle for the city. I agree with them. The inline three produces an uncharacteristic sound and acceleration dynamics. The device is daring and quite provokes all sorts of hooliganism. Especially if there is direct flow. The motorcycle shoots faster than inline 600-k sports, but loses over a long distance due to the complete lack of wind protection and engine settings. But there are no such long distances in the city. I rode with a Daytona 675 - the owner says that it can compete with liters. I can’t say anything about this, but on the straight I was far behind Daytona. In terms of handling, it is very similar to the Hornet 600 (I think a much larger percentage of people will understand what I mean), which I had before. The landing is more aggressive. Weight is the same. The steering angle is slightly smaller (like a sport). The dimensions are the same. It goes faster. Triumph's naked version turned out better than Honda's. I like it better both on the track and in the city. The only question is about the brakes: they are sufficient, but they could be better. I am sure that the R version does not have such problems. And the gearbox is just a slap in Honda’s face =) The muzzle causes a lot of discussion, but it is mounted on a spider and does not move back and forth with the steering wheel, and also gives excellent light. Appearance (photos at the bottom of the post) Not for everyone. Many people don't like it. I saw him called an insect, a freak, etc. on forums. No one has ever said this to my face. If there are several motorcycles at a traffic light, most likely they will look at mine. In other words: it doesn’t look like anything else, and that’s what catches you. Some people like it, some don't. Personally, I'm delighted, this is the best motorcycle I've ever owned.
The zest is added by the mood-clacking tensioner and either grunting or whistling valves. Everyone, as one, says that this is normal and I’m used to it. NOT A BUCKET WITH BOLTS AND OKAY! =)
Just a little bit of history
I will separate the generations in a unique way. There are 2.5 generations of 675s, which will be replaced by the 765 in 2022. My motorcycle is a 1.5 generation. It has a new face, but an old exhaust (2 cans under the tailpiece). This version was released only in 2012. The motorcycles are older than mine (2007/8-2012) - with 2 round headlights. The motorcycles are younger (2013-) - with a side exhaust and ABS, the frame has also been updated. In general, this is a rather rough division because for example, on versions of different years I saw different calipers (brembo in front of Nissin - normal for a stock street). Some changes were also made to the engine. There are 2 versions of the street: non-R & R. They differ: 1. adjustable fork on R 2. radial brakes on R 3. smaller radiator on R The 765 has 3 versions: from the rogue version on the Kiaba and Nissin to the major one on the Elins and Brembo What’s good is that the basic version is sold at the price of the old 675 cc engine.
Triumph in the realities of the Russian Federation
We have an official Triumph dealer. I'm not sure if I can call it according to the rules of BP, in any case, Google will easily tell you. They are focused on people with money. For example, last Saturday, when I arrived there, Plushenko (that figure skater) was dissecting there, if I hadn’t made a mistake. The price tag for official repairs is appropriate. They do it well. While you wait, you will be offered delicious tea. Indoor repairs are at your own risk. Very few people here know about Triumph engines. With the new Triumphs everything is clear, the bush ones are more interesting. In our country, buying a used Triumph is rather a stupid act from the point of view of resale.
What about the money?
When we went to pick up my T, the price in the ad was 320. In the end, we took it for 250. The attitude was “master, I demand your money and your care!”
The radiator was no good, the plug was leaking. Later other problems emerged. I will write about them later. Below I will list all the expenses that have been made since October last year from the moment of purchasing the motorcycle until the start of the season: 1. Mot - 250k 2. Maintenance done: 2.1. New tires (Michelin pilot road 4) - 20k; 2.2. The radiator was replaced (used from ebay) - 16k. The Russian Post mistreated it upon delivery - +1.5k for light repairs; 2.3. The fork was rebuilt with original rubber bands from Triumph - 6k for oil seals/anthers; 2.4. New chain (did), sprockets (JT) - 10k; 2.5. Spark plugs (NGK), original air filter - 4.5k; 2.6. Pads (TRW) (although they weren’t useful, but they were purchased) - 6k; 2.7. Oil (filled with eni 10-50)/filter (hiflo) — somewhere around 4k 3. Tyunyachka: 3.1. Forward flow GPR - 28k 3.2. Stopper with built-in turn signals - used aftermarket - 1.5k 3.3. Windbreaker PUIG - 3.5k with a 70% discount Total: 109k All the work was done by ourselves with my friend. Costs during the season: 1.25k for repairs at the dealer. The idle speed control motor was not working well. I can’t describe this detail without swearing, I had a lot of trouble with it, and it’s partly my own fault. But the story isn't very interesting, so I'll skip it. The same 25k included rewiring the brains for forward flow and bought all sorts of fake whistles for 2 thousand.
Plans: 1. Cage/arcs a la stunt 2. Swap forks from the R version

Making acquaintances is much easier; owners of exotic motorcycles stick to each other
Street feels great on firs
And in the forest. My height is 184 cm. I am a bit of a long sleeper for such wind protection, but I adapted
Well, the city is its very element
And this is the best plug flasher!
Street is a motorcycle not without interesting nuances: I have reinforced hoses, a blinker, and a hugger from the factory, but there is not a single fork setting
Girls like the vibration from 3 pots, as well as cans and PP under their ass, which warm up the rear seat quite well =)
That's all, I'm tired of writing. More photos on my Instagram rider.54 See you on the roads! =)
Limits
The Triumph Street Triple RX is almost no different in terms of precision and chassis rigidity from the Daytona 675R - one of the best sportbikes today, albeit one that lives outside the framework of most championships. Perhaps the only remark is the completely predictable unwanted “connections” of the driver’s footrests with the track surface... However, it should be noted that they occur at such angles of inclination, where most of Triumph’s classmates will already be on the verge of falling. If there is a desire and willingness to lose a little in comfort, then this can be treated by installing the appropriate tuning parts.
Wheelie factor
The torque correctly “smeared” over most of the tachometer scale, although it does not amaze the imagination with its exorbitant numbers, allows you to completely calmly ride the Triumph Street Triple on the rear wheel in second gear, lifting the motorcycle with a little help from the clutch. It is interesting to note that the so-called power wheelie on the first one is also not difficult - the engine output is completely transparent and predictable!
By the way, the fast-acting quickshifter perfectly “slips” into third gear when moving on the rear wheel in second gear - there is no break in the power flow, and, accordingly, the wheelie is noticeably prolonged, adding to the motorcycle owner a sense of his own unreality and significance.
