Space construction for the whole country

Work on the Energia-Buran complex took about ten years. The lead developer of the Buran orbital vehicle was NPO Molniya, specially created in 1976 on the basis of three design bureaus to implement the program. G.E. was appointed general director and chief designer of Molniya. Lozino-Lozinsky, who had previously worked on the Spiral project and MiG fighters. The workshops of the Tushinsky Machine-Building Plant were chosen as the main site for assembling and testing the ships.

In the period 1975-1976, various versions of the Buran and the systems that were supposed to launch it into orbit were considered. As a result, a glider was chosen for the ship, which was as close in design as possible to the one developed by the Americans, as the most promising.

As already mentioned, the main developer of Buran was NPO Molniya. Since 2022, the association has been part of the group and is the only enterprise of the concern with competencies in the space industry. Today Molniya is engaged in the creation of target missiles and continues work on aerospace topics.

One of Buran's largest contributions to the development of the aerospace industry was research in the field of new materials. Increased demands were placed on the ship's coating: maximum strength, minimum weight and thermal conductivity, heat resistance at temperature changes from -150 to +1250 ºС, and the possibility of reusable use. In cooperation between the enterprises, a unique thermal protection based on quartz fibers was developed. 38,600 flexible tiles were made from it, which, like scales, covered the hull of the Buran. In areas of particularly strong heating up to 1650 ºС (the bow of the ship and the edge of the wings), the innovative material gravimol was used. Ceramic thermal protection, cabin glazing and composite parts - only about 10% of Buran's materials - were manufactured at ONPP Tekhnologiya, part of the RT-Khimkompozit holding. Tekhnologiya's participation in the program laid the foundations for modern composite production in the space industry in Russia.

I've already been everywhere - went fishing, hunting, or just rode and traveled. The car is easy to maintain and cheaper to maintain than foreign cars. Buran consumes 92 gasoline, the engine is quite noisy, but very economical. Unfortunately, the dashboard only has a speedometer, but I would also like a tachometer... We decided to save money on something, so to speak. The Buran 4T snowmobile rides smoothly on any road - packed snow or loose surface. The steering is clear and predictable, but turning the steering wheel requires a noticeable effort, especially at high speeds.
Vasily, Krasnoyarsk. Buran 4T/4TD is a universal Russian snowmobile, it’s like a tractor! – it is so off-road and not afraid of loose and deep snow. I must admit that this machine is one of the most reliable - and this is not only my opinion, but my friends and acquaintances - experienced fishermen and hunters - think so. The car experiences difficulties if it ends up on ice or wet snow - in such conditions the car does not obey the steering wheel at all, so you have to slow down. Perhaps this is the main quibble. Well, except that the engine overheats if you drive for several hours. Fuel consumption could have been lower, given the low power. But I was pleased with the support of 92 gasoline.

During this time, I had to change the transmission chain several times, and most recently I discovered that the speed fork lock bolt was missing. If I had not noticed in time (before leaving), then the lower part of the gearbox would have broken, and then the chain itself. This is a very serious problem, in which case I would probably have stayed for a long time somewhere in the taiga, where there was not a single soul. Overall, the snowmobile is not bad, but it needs to be serviced regularly, or just checked for possible problems. In my opinion, it would be better if the manufacturer made the lower part of the gearbox from a more durable and lightweight material - for example, aluminum. Then the above problem might not exist.
