But for some, owning a beautiful example of a factory Monster was not enough - so mad motorcycle scientist Vitaly Selyukov, working under the Balamutti brand, recently made a tilt trike out of Monster on spiked tires for driving on ice. True, the fate of this project was not very smooth - it was bought at the wrong time (not fully prepared), it was painted rather terribly, it was rushed to be entered into competitions, where it was entered, and after that the traces of the evil but funny custom are lost in history. Another thing is important: in fact, Vitaly did not make this trike for racing on ice, but for driving on roads, and he decided to invest his unrealized potential in a new road Monster! Good evening ladies and gentlemen! Today, Monday April 15, 2019, I opened my first season. The past day left two trips and a lot of impressions: good and not so good. I have new questions, I hope one of you can tell me the answers to them. For those who are reading me for the first time, I passed my license in August, bought a Ducati S2R800 motorcycle in winter (because the dream should be uncompromising), until today I had no driving experience on either a motorcycle or a car. The actual content of the post. On Sunday I took one lesson on a Honda CB400 to “remember everything”, it was cold, nasty weather, the hour I paid for was dragging on endlessly. Today the master brought me a fully serviced and ready for the season motorcycle. We settled, talked, and he left. I was left alone with a beautiful mechanism, the essence of the processes in which is not completely clear to me. I went home, put on my gear, and with a shudder of heart, personally started the motorcycle for the first time. I drove it around in courtyards, on the site of an unopened shopping center, and in the end I got so excited that I took it out onto the streets. My ardor was cooled by the traffic police car, when I looked at it I remembered that the only documents I had were a driving license. Home insurance, registration only tomorrow... They didn’t stop me, I was lucky. Came back home. While I was getting comfortable, I met the owner of a neighboring Yamaha, we chatted very warmly, and tomorrow we are going together to register. Here it is, motorcycle brotherhood (slight sarcasm). A couple of hours later, my friend from the motorcycle school rolled up, we stood there, admired our motorcycles, and rode off together. First to the same site to warm up, then to the motorcycle school site to say hello to our instructors. We drove around and parted ways.

The emotional part of the post. I was very tired during these two short trips. Every intersection, every turn, every street - I literally overcome myself to go further. It's probably just scary. At the moment the road is an aggressive environment for me. I’ve been a pedestrian for 23 years, and apparently, thinking doesn’t change overnight. There are so many things you need to keep in mind and control at once: traffic, signs, direction of travel, instrument readings, pedestrians, parked cars, your own condition and most importantly - engine habits. Didn’t accelerate more than 60-70, tends to the tank, scary and fast)

Impressions from the motorcycle. Ducati really does have a sound like nothing else - it's cool. Those around him, and in particular small children, pay a lot of attention to him. But most importantly, when driving in first gear it shakes. If you move without adding gas at all, the motorcycle moves jerkily. I don’t know if it’s scary or not, I’m lucky that it’s my first one, and everything else will be compared with it). This is critical only in a turn, when it seems that one more jerk under you and the motorcycle will come off. Stock mirrors shake - the image in them is unsteady, you need to put in more effort to make out what's what...

Questions: 1) I park in the yard, under the windows and under the camera from the neighboring entrance (it works, there is access to video), I cover it with a cover... and that’s it. Am I taking a risk? I plan to get a chain. 2) The oil seal is a little snotty, they say you need to sort out the fork and quickly eliminate this misunderstanding, because when moving, oil gets onto the brake disc (the effectiveness of the front brake deteriorates) and accumulates in the calipers (they will have to be thrown out). For the first time, you can tie a cloth over the fork so that the oil accumulates in it. What do you think? 3) The tires are from the previous owner, Pirelli 2005. (Yes Yes Yes). There are plans to change it in the near future, but the master said that for the first time a couple of weeks will be enough. And if I change it, I can also sell the one I removed. What do you think?

But if you open the throttle a little harder, you can immediately hear and feel that this motorcycle has absorbed Ducati's rich experience of racing at the highest level - this is confirmed by the characteristic growl of the two vertically mounted mufflers. This feeling is not limited to just the signature sound of the twin-cylinder engine. As a result, this bike can provide its owner with a lot of unforgettable experiences, but will not drive him into a nervous breakdown - unlike most modern competing motorcycles. As soon as I grabbed the Magura's wide, light handlebars, I felt like this Ducati bike wanted to be ridden aggressively and fast. The position in the saddle is as swift as the outline of the car itself - the legs tightly clasp the gas tank and stand on narrow footpegs. But while the saddle position allows you to take full advantage of the S2R's steering, you don't feel any discomfort while riding. You sit up straight and don't feel strained or folded in half like you do on racing bikes. I tested the bike in the Tangerine Red color scheme with black stripes, but the S2R looks sexy in any of its six paint options. There are many motorcycles that have more speed, but not many can boast such technological superiority or style. The 130 horsepower of Ducati's mighty L-twin in the Monster S4R is more than enough for most, but Vitaly is not one of them. And a small increase due to improved blowing would definitely not be enough for him. Fortunately, a four-valve water-cooled engine with additional oil cooling is an ideal recipient for forced air supply, in other words, supercharging. True, this does not mean that the task was easy: it took Vitaly about a year to achieve decent results, and almost all of this time the work was on the power unit, and in the end - on its fine tuning.

Today we are reviewing a motorcycle from the Italian school, which is called the Ducati Monster S2R. We will look at all his technical discoveries, of which there are a lot on this motorcycle. Let's see what it's like on the road and sort out all its innovations and features. And at the end we will draw conclusions. So, let's begin…

This motorcycle personifies the Italian style; just by looking at it, you can immediately understand that it was the Italians who created it. The model has a very unusual shape of the tank, which is fastened to the frame with a small lock. The frame itself is steel (birdcage). The total weight of the motorcycle is one hundred and seventy-three kilograms, which is quite light for such a design. The appearance of the motorcycle is similar to the Old School, but with a modern wrapper. The model is equipped with an injection engine, which stands at an angle of ninety degrees (the so-called L-shaped engine). This engine produces seventy-seven horsepower (we agree, this is not very much). By the way, the engine itself is quite strange, it stands out from the general background and looks spartan. It also looks this way because all the wiring on the motorcycle is open. The front forks are lowered a bit, making it a bit lower than other bikes. According to the saddle, its size is eighty centimeters. The installed tank holds fourteen liters of fuel, plus another three liters of reserve. Let's move on to the dashboard; she is as ordinary as possible. The brakes are four-piston, also from an Italian company. An interesting detail of this model is the headlight. It is single and round. The entire appearance of this motorcycle sends greetings to the distant seventies. But the main thing for a motorcycle is how it rides. So let's get to the fun part - how the Ducati Monster S2R performs on the road. When riding, you immediately feel that this is a light motorcycle with eight hundred cubic meters and wild torque at the bottom. And this is not without reason, this model was designed specifically for mountain serpentines, and more specifically, for Alpine mountain serpentines. The handling of the motorcycle is very good. It corners well and has short gears (which is also made for driving on serpentine roads). But its acceleration is not the fastest. Many sportbikes will overtake it almost immediately. The result: we have an eight hundred cc motorcycle that steers very sharply. It will appeal to those people who love – and know how – to “pawn” a motorcycle. It won't be difficult to get around a sportbike on turns. But most of all it will appeal to those people for whom style and beauty are the most important criteria when choosing a motorcycle.
