History of changes

Playing the role of a flagship, the Honda CBR1000RR has been constantly improved.

In 2004, the base model Honda CBR1000 launched, becoming the seventh generation of Fireblade.

Since 2006, the 8th generation version of the Honda CBR1000RR Repsol has become available. The exterior of the motorcycle was changed (as in the photo), the rear suspension pendulum was lightened, the fairing design and chassis geometry were redesigned, and new brake discs of larger diameter were installed at the front. The weight of the bike has decreased slightly, and the engine power has increased.

The ninth generation, released in 2008, featured a completely new engine with a volume of 999 cm³, titanium intake and exhaust valves, and an increased compression ratio. Maximum power increased again to 151 hp. With. at 10 thousand rpm. The chassis of the vehicle has changed radically, as a result of which the weight has been reduced even more and the center of gravity has decreased.

The year 2009 was marked by the launch of the ninth generation of Fireblade. It differed only in the installation of a combined anti-lock brake system and a change in the design of the turn signals.

In the eleventh generation (2010), engineers retuned the engine and gearbox to improve low-end traction and smoother power growth depending on speed. The model received easily removable license plate mounts, making it easier to prepare the device for the race.

In 2012, in the 12th generation, the designers improved the aerodynamics, equipped the motorcycle with 12-spoke wheels, an instrument panel with an LCD display, and new Showa suspensions. The ABS was also reconfigured.

Modifications

Honda CBR1000RR SP Fireblade – racing version.

Lowered windshield and NIX30 Smart-EC forks.

Single seat seat.

Fully digital dashboard.

In 2014, due to popular demand, the Honda CBR1000RR SP Fireblade was born at the plant. The basic version is left to civilian motorcyclists, and the new one is positioned as a racing one.

But the driving characteristics of the stock racer are no different (!!!) from the civilian version. At the same time, it boasts out-of-the-box a quick shifter, a titanium fuel tank, Ohlins Smart EC smart electronic suspension and Brenbo brake calipers.

A distinctive feature is the presence of a small fairing instead of a perch for the second number (one saddle). In addition, the modification has a smaller amount of plastic, an open engine and starts only from the kick starter foot.

The release of the racing version continues in parallel with the main one.

Motorcycle Honda CBR 1000RR 2004 review

The description of the Honda CBR 1000RR 2004 motorcycle is in the queue for publication of the article. Announcement: Today, for almost every new motorcycle that comes into being, marketers strive to carve out their own niche. This one is a road sport, this one is a recreational enduro. But what class should we include a motorcycle that has a little bit of everything? A good bike should have a reliable engine, comfortable ergonomics and simple controls...

Honda CBR 1000RR is a very popular motorcycle in Russia equipped with a very powerful 172 hp engine. Despite the fact that good models of motorcycles have a very respectable price, and the season for their use is relatively short, the motorcycle market is developing rapidly. And if you believe the words of dealers, then some models of recently released motorcycles are selling like hot cakes at the beginning of the season, and the models brought to Russia are clearly not enough to fully satisfy consumer demand.

A motorcycle has long ceased to be an alternative to a car, and the times when this equipment was bought only because there was not enough money for a full-fledged car are forgotten. Nowadays, two-wheelers can be called technological marvels in many cases, and their cost can be compared with that of prestigious cars.

Many people have started buying motorcycles for hobby purposes as riding or even collecting them has become a good pastime for many people. Many motorcycles, for example the Honda CBR 1000RR, whose technical characteristics make it possible to call the model a prestigious brand, are in demand among both beginners and experienced motorcyclists.

Currently, it is impossible to purchase a new Honda CBR 1000RR motorcycle of the 2004 model year, since their production stopped 12 years ago. At the same time, the Honda CBR 1000RR has excellent technical characteristics, so many people strive to purchase, if not a new, then at least a used version.

Motorcycles with an engine capacity of 998 cc. see, appeared as a result of long work of inventors who sought to create a model that was not inferior in characteristics to other versions of the motorcycle. In some cases, these models are not only not inferior, but also ahead of other motorcycles, as they have minimal fuel consumption and other excellent parameters.

Motorcycles with an engine capacity of more than 400 kb. cm, which includes the Honda CBR 1000RR - this category of motorcycles simply cannot claim the title of “motorcycle for a beginner.” On the contrary, this is already a serious technique that requires certain control of motorcycle equipment with a smaller engine capacity. Yes, she attracts more attention, she is the most beautiful, fast, interesting and there is a huge selection of models. But as power increases, the weight of the motorcycle inevitably increases. In this class you are unlikely to find motorcycles lighter than 180 kg, unless they are the latest motorcycle models.

Technical features and differences of Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade SP, SP2 and SP2 WSBK

There is a week left before the start of World Superbike 2022, the factory teams are already in Australia to acclimatize before the decisive series of tests and first races. Red Bull Honda World Superbike Team - the HRC factory team in the world championship expressed its readiness for a new challenge under the changed rules.

MOTOGONKI.RU, February 15, 2022 — Honda believes that the new regulations will help level out the differences between motorcycles that have long occupied the first positions and those that strive to be among the leaders.

Red Bull Honda World Superbike Team rookie Jake Gagne, #45

The undisputed favorite of WSBK today is 3-time world champion Jonathan Ray, who is - objectively - the strongest driver in the paddock; he has in his hands the most balanced Kawasaki ZX-10RR superbike, which was ready to fight for the title back in 2013. Honda and Yamaha in those years rested on their laurels, not considering it necessary to participate in WSBK directly, through factory projects involving engineers and developers from Japan. Now, they have to catch up with Kawasaki and Ducati, who have run far ahead: after all, without direct factory participation, as can be seen from the examples of Aprilia and BMW, today there is not the slightest chance to fight for the title in World Superbike - only one year is lost, and with it the every chance!..

Fireblade educational program

To be clear, the very concept of “Fireblade SP2” does not represent a unique Superbike: it is only a modification, an improved stock version of the Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade SP, presented at tests at Moscow Raceway in August 2022 by Honda Motor RUS; but a modification supplemented by a number of important “racing parts”, without which competition with BMW, Aprilia, Kawasaki and Ducati is simply unthinkable today.

Model range Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade 2017-18

The basic version of Fireblade is SP. The RA version is a lightweight (simplified) version. SP2, on the contrary, is complicated. Motorcycles of the SP2 series were produced in 500 copies. in 2022, they are mainly distributed to racing teams, but they are also freely available.

The racing SP2 SBK is the product of an internal improvement of the "production" model. And it remains an ever-changing subject of development and improvement.

Fireblade SP2 and SP2 SBK (Next Stage)

For the CBR1000RR, Honda Racing Corporation has created two racing kits (Racing Kit - Stage 1 and Stage 2 or “Next Stage”), with which the 189-horsepower stock SP can be accelerated to 212 hp, and then to 230 hp. With. “Stage 1” can be purchased as a finished SP2 motorcycle, which costs 3,400 euros or 240,000 rubles. more expensive than SP and features short gear ratios, a wide range of electronic settings and two additional modes (SP has 3, SP2 has 5). SP2 allows you to program the Launch control (adjust the speed level) and use the Pit-limiter (speed limiter in the pit lane, when connecting an additional remote control - not included in the package).

Visual differences between Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade SP and SP2 (2017-18)

Externally, SP and SP2 can be distinguished by only two details: the color scheme of SP2 differs from the classic HRC Tricolor with brighter blue stripes, and powerful forged Marchesini wheels are also striking. The SP2 comes standard with a lightweight Li-Ion battery, which means it weighs 1 kg less, but with basic firmware it produces the same 189 hp as the SP. The real differences between the motorcycles are inside the engine and in the electronics: in essence, the SP2 is a platform for the further construction of the Superbike.

And this particular motorcycle is homologated by the FIM for World Superbike, STK-1000, World Endurance, BSB, MotoAmerica, etc. Having bought it, removed the optics and installed plastic, you can go to any championship, including international series.

*** The cost of Honda Fireblade SP2 (Stage 1) can be only 1.65 million rubles. True, the motorcycle has not yet been officially imported into Russia, so there is simply no clear figure.

Stage 2 pricing, which is used in WSBK, BSB, Isle of Man TT and World Endurance, can be requested through standard HRC channels or through Ten Kate Racing. TKR itself, competing in WSBK under the factory banner of the Red Bull Honda World Superbike Team, further improves the Fireblade configuration thanks to its vast experience with this motorcycle (more than 20 years). According to some sources, the Racing Kit Stage 2 includes a new control unit and a complete exhaust system for which this unit is tuned. True, in the fall of 2022, Red Bull Honda (Ten Kate) tested a new Akrapovic release, different from last year’s model. Therefore, it is difficult to talk about uniformity of Stage 2.

What is the difference between the Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade SP2 and the stock version, which can be bought in Moscow for only 1.4 million rubles?

Fireblade SP2 in detail

1) The diameter of the SP2 pistons is 76 mm, as in the stock version, but the piston head has a special shape for better heat dissipation in the boss area, the piston itself is 2.5 mm shorter and 8 g lighter than stock; at the same time, the compression ratio remained the same as in the stock SP - 13.0:1;

Piston Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade SP2

2) The SP2 uses a tuning cylinder head with increased diameters of the seats and valve channels: the diameter of the intake valves is 31.5 mm (1 mm more), the exhaust valves are 25.5 mm (1.5 mm more); chamfer angles 10° and 12° for inlet/outlet. valves (versus 11°/11° in the drain); thanks to this, the output and efficiency of the engine increases;

3) The engine is equipped with higher lift camshafts, the outer lift diameter is 28 mm, 2 mm larger than stock; but overall thickness and height have been reduced to save weight and reduce inertia;

Engine Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade SP and SP2

4) The SP2 uses special, extended spark plugs, like the Honda RC213V from MotoGP; Another technology from MotoGP is a dense water jacket around the combustion chambers, which helps remove and remove more heat and control engine heating;

5) Lightweight forged Marchesini wheels reduce the moment of inertia at the front- and rear-end of the motorcycle by 18 and 9%;

Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade SP2 SBK #2 Leon Camier

6) The standard SP and SP2 use Brembo M4-30/32 4-piston monoblock brakes with 320 mm discs and SP-series synthetic sports pads from the same manufacturer. The Ten Kate racing superbike uses monoblock Nissin wheels with wheels from the Japanese company Yutaka. Front calipers for SP2 SBK are made exclusively by Nissin, although they are installed on standard Öhlins mounts;

7) The base version SP2 (not for World Superbike) is equipped with the same semi-active Öhlins Electronic Control (EC Smart) suspension with 43 mm NIX30 EC fork and TTX36 EC shock absorber as the regular SP. But according to FIM regulations, the use of any “electronic” suspensions is prohibited in 2022 (clause 2.4.10.2 paragraph “F”). Ten Kate Racing uses the same suspensions in this case without the EC Smart kit - these are Öhlins TRSP 43 and TTX40. In this sense, we can say that the SP is equipped even better than a combat superbike, but in the Russian series the use of smart suspensions is not limited;

Nissin brakes on SP2 SBK instead of Brembo on SP

8) Ten Kate Racing removes the standard subframe from the SP2 and installs an ultra-light tail;

9) The full titanium Akrapovic exhaust system appeared in the SP2 configuration in the fall of 2022 and was approved after winter tests in 2018; its implementation made it possible to increase the output from the engine by a few more ponies;

Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade SP2 SBK #45 Jake Gagne

10) The main thing: the power of the Fireblade SP2 SBK engine of the 2017 model (in the old configuration) was more than 228 hp, now, with the new exhaust system and Magneti Marelli ECU, it officially exceeds 230 hp. Even in the previous configuration, Nikki Hayden and Stefan Bradl could accelerate to 314-316 km/h and were in no way inferior to the factory Kawasaki in this indicator. The fastest in terms of peak speeds were Ducati (317 km/h) and BMW (319 km/h), but this indicator is not decisive in today's World Superbike.

Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade or Yamaha R1? Difficulty of choice

On forums dedicated to motorcycle topics, these 2 bikes are often compared. Sometimes Germans, Italians, and other Japanese are added to the pile, but most often they choose between these models.

In fact, the choice largely depends on the user’s love for the equipment of a certain brand. Don’t forget that the R1 has a civilian modification, and the fire razor has a racing version. But in essence the choice can be boiled down to one point for which Honda is famous. This is attention to the user .

The electronics of the razor will monitor the user until the last minute in order to intervene if the situation begins to get out of control. The R1 driver has more freedom of choice . It is not for nothing that sometimes in Honda advertising there is a mention of total control - complete and constant control over the situation. Only the user himself can choose what is more important to him - increased security or free recklessness.

If you look at the stuffing of the bikes, with the exception of the concerns’ own developments, it will be almost identical. Both already have traction control, acceleration to 100 is comparable (the difference is hundredths of a second), speed and fuel consumption depend on the skills of the pilot.
