The BMW G310R motorcycle appeared as a result of the now popular flirting of European brands with Indian manufacturers. Like some of its competitors, the bike is assembled in this country, but under the strictest quality control of the Bavarian company. And the result of this cooperation was excellent! And to tell you more about it, we wrote this review.
Specifications
An attempt to reduce the cost of production without sacrificing quality has brought interesting results. The G310 R turned out to be a very balanced motorcycle, ideally suited for the metropolis.
Engine
The single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine with a volume of 313 cc provides acceleration to 100 km/h in 6.5 seconds . The maximum speed that the G 310R can reach is 155 km/h . The presence of a passenger does not have the best effect on acceleration dynamics, but this is inevitable for any light bike.
Transmission
6-speed gearbox is built into the crankcase . Switching it is easy, you don’t even need to make an effort, and the switching itself happens so smoothly that you don’t even feel it.
Chassis and brakes
The motor is placed in a spatial tubular frame tilted back, and the cylinder head is rotated 180 degrees. Thanks to this, the center of mass has shifted forward, providing the motorcycle with excellent handling . The suspension also contributes - an inverted front fork and monoshock - and an unusually long aluminum swingarm ensures ease of manoeuvrability. The brakes are very effective, with ABS , and they fully correspond to the acceleration characteristics of the model.
Electronics
Bavarian bikes of the latest generations are famous for their extremely complex designs. But this does not apply to this model - everything is simpler here. According to reviews, there are no problems with the on-board electrical network.
Weight and dimensions
Curb weight with a full tank is just over 158 kg . The center of gravity is low, so the bike feels subjectively light. The wheelbase is quite short, only 1374 mm .
Controllability
The BMW G310R handles great, you can’t take that away from it. Before the start of mass production, the prototype was tested for a long time, eventually achieving the fact that the motorcycle easily obeys the steering wheel. From a technical point of view, it is generally close to ideal.
Fuel consumption
According to the manufacturer, the average consumption does not exceed 3.33 liters of AI-95 per 100 km . In practice, this figure is close to reality. Fuel tank volume - 11 liters .
Characteristics
The BMW G310 R is powered by a 313cc single-cylinder engine. CM (19.1 cu in) liquid-cooled, bore and stroke 80.0 × 62.1 mm (3.15 × 2.44 in) and 10,500 rpm. Red line.[16][17]
The G310 R is 1988mm long, 896mm wide and 1227mm high, with a wheelbase of 1374mm and a seat height of 785mm. The rotation angle is 64.9°.[18] The bike has 110/70 R17 tires at the front and 150/60 R17 at the rear.[19] The bike's braking features are anti-lock. The front uses a single 300mm disc with a 4-piston fixed radial bolt caliper, while the rear uses a single-piston single piston brake with a 240mm caliper.[20] Fuel tank capacity is 11 L (2.4 imp gal; 2.9 US gal).[21]
Motorcycle price
350 thousand rubles
from dealers , a used copy will cost less, from about 250 thousand . The new bike will come with a warranty, which is important, but warranty service from dealers is expensive. “Brotherly” model, P310 GS (tourenduro) costs comparable money).
Repair and tuning
Bavarian motorcycles have never been cheap, and tuning for them also traditionally costs a lot of money. But with the G310R the situation is somewhat different, because this model itself belongs to a relatively budget segment.
Repair
You can service the BMW G310R yourself, but for repairs it is better to turn to professionals. The bike is not overcomplicated with electronics, but it still has a modern design with many components and elements.
Spare parts
All spare parts are available for order through official dealers, which have representative offices in all more or less large cities of Russia. They cost reasonable money.
Tuning
The company offers a huge selection of tuning from the catalog. Everything can be replaced, from seats and turn signals to running boards and body kit. Prices for some items are steep, but there is plenty to choose from.
Advantages and disadvantages
From BMW motorcycles you expect a combination of high quality and an equally high price. This is also true for the G310 R, except that the motorcycle itself is relatively inexpensive. But its service, if you go to the officials...
Advantages
- Excellent maneuverability . The combination of a short wheelbase and a long swingarm makes the G310R ideal for active driving in urban environments.
- Economical . The bike consumes about 3.5 liters of gasoline per 100 km, although this figure can increase with aggressive driving. The power reserve is up to 300 km, despite the modest 11-liter gas tank.
- Variability . Thanks to the presence of tuning, you can change the height of the saddle, the position of your hands on the steering wheel and much more, adjusting the motorcycle to suit you.
- Good dynamics . Accelerating to 100 km/h in six and a half seconds, the G310R does not lose momentum until 110-120 km/h, and this is more than enough for the city.
- Functional digital instrument panel. Simple, but easy to use.
Flaws
- Lack of traction at low speeds. This is a feature of the 1-cylinder engine that is common to all competitors of the G 310 R from other brands.
- Vibrations at high speeds. In top gear they begin to appear after 110-120 km/h.
- High cost of service at the dealer. Well, what did you want? This is BMW.

Owner reviews
I drove this Indian German for two seasons, I drove a little, less than 10k. The motorcycle is completely satisfactory for its price, there are no breakdowns, only service. It’s simply an ideal option for the city, it steers like a big car and darts confidently between cars. There are enough dynamics, but the engine likes to rev, you have to turn it. The average consumption has never risen above 4 liters, although I drive aggressively. Alexander, Moscow.
I wanted to take the G310GS first, but they were delivered to dealers in a position other than R, and since the season had already begun, I decided not to wait and took what I had. I skated one full season, every day for work plus rides, covered ~18,000 km. With a guarantee of tears after TO1, it’s expensive. The bike is gorgeous, it goes 150+ km/h, but the vibrations at that speed get annoying. Everything works perfectly, the brakes are good, it steers with the power of thought. Alexey, Novosibirsk.
The dynamics are good, you can overtake a bus or truck on the highway, but a comfortable cruising speed is no higher than 110-120. Then vibrations and wind in the beak begin, but you don’t want to install glass, the appearance will be ruined. Boris, Khabarovsk.

Story
BMW Motorrad announced in 2013 that they are collaborating with TVS Motor Company to produce a range of sub-500cc bikes.[3] These bikes were aimed at markets where low cube bikes predominated. See, and were released as entry-level bicycles.[4] This was the first time that BMW Motorrad decided to develop motorcycles with a displacement of less than 500 cc. See[5]
BMW K03 is the code name given to the first product of the TVS-BMW collaboration. This was a test bike that was developed in India and sent to Germany for further testing and development.[6]
In October 2015, in Brazil, the BMW G310 Stunt became the first concept motorcycle to be unveiled by BMW Motorrad.[7] The commercial version of the concept was officially unveiled by BMW Motorrad the following month at EICMA 2015 in Milan, Italy, and was shown in India at the 13th Auto Expo 2016.[8] The motorcycle was commercially launched in India on July 18.[9]
Like the KTM 390 series, which is developed in Europe by the Austrian brand KTM and manufactured in India in partnership with Bajaj Auto, the G310 R is sold in different segments in different countries. Indian site Rushlane
, based on a BMW promotional video, calls the G310 R "not an entry-level motorcycle, but a lightweight and compact premium roadster", and the American magazine
Bicycle World
describes the same bike as an "entry-level" and "compact urban roadster".[10 ][eleven]
Conclusion
The BMW G 310 R motorcycle is a real city dweller . Don’t be afraid of its Indian origin; it didn’t affect the quality of the Bavarian bike in any way. In addition, before going on sale, all copies first arrive in Germany, where they undergo strict quality control, and only then end up in dealer showrooms. The youngest representative of the two-wheeled BMW family is worth its money.

Sportsbike for a beginner: BMW G310R
BMW motorcycles have never been offered to beginners; on the contrary, they are serious heavy equipment with powerful engines, a kind of “European Harley” - traditional, made of iron, with a minimum of plastic...
But a huge number of people need inexpensive motorcycles. In India, China and the CIS countries, for the most part, people do not earn enough to buy expensive German bikes. And fuel consumption is also an important matter... in short, the middle class often needs a simple two-wheeled vehicle with minimal ownership costs, so that its operation costs the same as traveling on public transport. Of course, with this approach, small-capacity mopeds and scooters suggest themselves, but if you want something more dynamic, beautiful and fast...
In this price category, the Chinese and Japanese reign supreme, and the Germans from BMW also decided to “bite off a piece of the pie” by introducing their entry-level sports motorcycle – the G310R.
In the showrooms of Russian dealers, the BMW G310R in 2022 is offered at a price of 400 thousand rubles - for a German brand this is a very low price tag.
So is he German, Indian or mixed race?
Real BMW motorcycles are made only in Germany! – for a long time this was the motto of a piece of the market in the middle price category; the Germans needed the cheapest possible bike. But German assembly involves high costs (primarily for paying workers), so it was decided to assemble the G310R model in India.
It has long been known that assembly in countries such as India and China is much cheaper; household appliances have long been produced in China. As for motorcycles, India is head and shoulders above - just remember a manufacturer like Bajaj, which owns almost 50% of the famous KTM brand, produces the Duke 200 and works closely with Kawasaki...
Overall, whether BMW fans like it or not, the G310R motorcycles are made in India. At the same time, the plant meets all European parameters, and assembly is carried out under the supervision of German specialists.
Indian assembly has its advantages: • affordable price for the BMW G310R motorcycle; • the ability to establish large-scale production by targeting the markets of India and Asian countries, which again helps to reduce the final price.
As for the assembly itself, the G310R model is equipped with components of both German and Indian production - mirrors and turn signals are similar to many German BMW models, levers and buttons are made in India, the situation with the rest of the units is similar... in general - 50/50.
Design and ergonomics
Externally, the G310R is more of a street fighter class model, something like a classic all-purpose motorcycle, but with a stylish design with a sporty twist. The appearance is stylish, the motorcycle looks beautiful, BMW badges add pathos and solidity.
You expect a sporty riding position from the motorcycle, closer to a “shrimp” one, but in fact it is rather classic (comfortable for beginners and for those who prefer to use universal classic bikes).
The ability to adjust the seat height in the range from 770 to 800 mm makes it possible to comfortably accommodate motorcyclists of different heights. Even at a height of 182 cm, the knees do not rest against anything.
The seating position is comfortable for beginners - it allows you to confidently control the bike even with minimal driving skills.
Engine
The engine of the BMW G310R is atypical for Bavarians - it is a single-cylinder engine with a displacement of 313 cubic centimeters, liquid cooling and a power of 34 hp.
This immediately suggests a parallel with popular Chinese motorcycles of similar cubic capacity. One of the most popular Chinese engines with a displacement of 270 cubic centimeters, installed on motorcycles of various classes, develops about 20 hp. The difference with the BMW engine and its 34 hp is immediately visible. In addition, the engine of the G310R is not a primitive carburetor, but an economical injection one, so this is a BMW development, and not “some kind of Indian motorcycle with a Bavarian manufacturer’s nameplate.”
The sound of the G310R engine is atypical for the usual BMW boxer engines - the “single-barrel” engine operates quietly, thanks to its small cubic capacity and exhaust with a Euro-4 standard catalyst. After 4,000 rpm the engine starts to sound more fun, and after 7,000 rpm it howls in a “sporty” way.
The dashboard with a monochrome LCD display is not HiTech and is not impressive in size, but is easy to read and fully informative
Just for beginners, the device has everything you need:
- a full-fledged fuel level indicator showing the power reserve;
- gear number indicator;
- digital speedometer;
- linear tachometer;
- engine temperature indicator;
- odometers and other functions.
Motorcycle in motion
The BMW G310R drives excellent for its cubic capacity, the main thing is not to compare it with boxers with a larger displacement. For beginners, the power is 34 hp. will be more than enough, and for experienced motorcyclists accustomed to other cubic capacities, the G310R can only be recommended as an economical and nimble vehicle for urban use.
The engine is clearly tailored for beginners - it is not sharp, but allows you to feel confident in city traffic.
The brakes, at first glance, are from an “incomprehensible manufacturer” - BYBRE is written on the calipers. In fact, this is a budget line from Brembo, so there are no and cannot be any complaints about the braking system. There is an ABS system (even in the most basic trim levels).
The front suspension is an inverted fork, the rear has a long swingarm, the motorcycle behaves adequately while moving, the suspension settings allow you to move comfortably on bad roads. Of course, this is not even a “light enduro”, but you can drive on dry rural roads without problems.
Specifications
- engine – single cylinder; cooling – liquid;
- working volume – 313 cubic meters. cm;
- power – 34 l. With. at 9250 rpm;
- food – injector;
- front – inverted fork;
- front – single disc, 4-piston;
The BMW G310R motorcycle is offered in three color options, there is only one configuration - basic, but for an additional fee you can select a number of additional equipment and options.
Summarizing
design and ergonomics
speed and dynamics
handling and comfort
cost of acquisition and ownership
This light sportbike will be of interest, first of all, to beginners and girls - it is light, friendly, but not “vegetable”.
