The tachometer shows the speed of rotation of the engine crankshaft (in revolutions per minute). Attention! The red zone of the tachometer warns that the engine is running at excessive speed. Exceeding the maximum recommended speed can cause serious engine damage.
Fuel cap
To open the gas tank, slide the protective cap of the lid lock by the protrusion, insert the ignition key into the lock hole and turn it clockwise a quarter turn. Remove the gas tank cap from the filler neck. After refueling, holding the key turned clockwise until it stops, put the cap in place with the mark facing forward, press it tightly to the neck of the gas tank, lock the gas tank cap by turning the key counterclockwise and close the lock with the protective cap.
The fuel valve has three positions:
-closed; fuel does not flow from the tank to the carburetor. Used when parked
-open; fuel flows from the tank to the carburetor

The fuel corrector lever has two fixed positions:

Located next to the driver's left footrest. To engage neutral gear, successively press the shift pedal with your toe up until it stops; the neutral position is extreme. Numbers corresponding to the selected gear appear on the instrument panel. When the transmission is engaged in neutral, zero lights up. The first, second, third and fourth gears are engaged by sequentially pressing the shift pedal with your toe down, and switching from high to low gears is done in the opposite direction.
Attention! Be careful when changing gears, choose a gear that matches the speed of the motorcycle.
Kick starter pedal.
To start the engine, engage neutral gear, fold back the kick starter pedal foot, and vigorously press it down with your foot. After starting the engine, return the kick starter pedal foot to its original position.
Attention! Remember to return the kick starter pedal foot to its original position to avoid injury.
Side support.
To use the side support, push it all the way out to the side with your foot. In this case, a sensor will be activated, blocking engine operation when the side support is folded down. When starting the engine, return the side stop to its original position. Before moving, make sure that the side support has returned to its original position.
Attention! To prevent the moped from falling, place it on the side support on a flat, hard surface.
3. Refilling the moped with fuel
Attention! Refuel the moped with the engine turned off.
Place the moped on the side stand and open the gas tank cap. Fill the tank with gasoline with an octane rating of at least 90. The fuel level in the tank of a filled moped should not exceed the bottom surface of the gas tank cap, i.e. should be 4-5 cm below the edge of the gas tank neck.
Attention! Do not allow fuel to spill during refueling. Do not overfill the tank above the specified level.
4. Pre-trip inspection
Before riding a moped, check its technical condition. Pay special attention to the serviceability of parts, assemblies and systems that affect traffic safety.

5. Starting the engine
Attention! Do not start the engine indoors, as exhaust gases are toxic and can cause severe poisoning! Attention! It is impossible to start the engine with the side stand folded down.
Before starting the engine, you should check the amount of fuel in the gas tank and the level of engine oil in the engine crankcase.
Engage neutral gear. Make sure the side support is retracted. Before starting a cold engine, turn the fuel adjuster lever up, then insert the key into the ignition switch, turn it clockwise to the position and, making sure that the neutral indicator light is on, press the engine start (electric starter) button.
Attention! Release the start button once the engine has started. Do not hold it pressed continuously for more than 4-5 seconds.
Warm up the engine until it idles steadily and picks up speed quickly, without hiccups, when turning the throttle control. During the warm-up process, move the fuel adjuster lever to the lower position. If the engine does not start, pause for 10-15 seconds before trying again. After 3 - 4 attempts, try starting it using the kick starter. A warm engine is started without forced enrichment of the fuel mixture using a fuel corrector. If, when you press the start button, the warm engine does not start within 2-3 seconds, turn the throttle control handle 1/8 - 1/4 stroke. If it is impossible to start the engine using the electric starter (for example, when the battery is discharged), start the engine using the kick starter pedal. The starting procedure using a kick starter is similar to starting with an electric starter.
6. Basics of moped control
6.1. Start of movement. Gear shift. Start and warm up the engine according to paragraph 8 “Starting the engine”. Holding the handlebars with both hands, sit on the saddle. With your right foot on the road surface, place your left foot on the driver's footrest.
Attention! Before you start driving, make sure you do not interfere with other road users and turn on your left turn signal.
Press the clutch lever with your left hand and engage first gear by pressing the shift pedal down smoothly but firmly with your left foot. Turn the throttle control towards you, smoothly releasing the clutch lever, start moving and gradually pick up speed.
Attention! A sharp turn of the throttle control can cause the moped to jerk, slip, and even flip over. Be especially careful when starting and accelerating on wet, slippery roads.
Having gained sufficient speed, simultaneously turning the throttle away from you and vigorously pressing the clutch lever, engage second gear by pressing the front shoulder of the gearshift pedal up with the toe of your foot (or the rear shoulder of the pedal with your heel down). As you continue to gain speed, change gears sequentially in the same way, up to the highest, 4th gear. The number of the engaged gear is displayed by the corresponding indicator on the instrument panel. Shifting from high to low gears occurs in the opposite direction. Attention! Be careful when changing gears, choose a gear that matches the speed of the moped.
6.2. Speed adjustment The speed of the moped is regulated by turning the throttle control handle: turning towards you - acceleration (rotate slowly), turning away from you (or releasing) - deceleration.
Attention! Avoid sudden manipulation of the throttle, especially when cornering or driving on slippery roads.
6.3. Braking To avoid emergency situations associated with sudden braking, reduce speed in advance when approaching an obstacle or stopping place. It is recommended to perform braking using joint
use of front and rear brakes. To brake, turn the throttle control away from you all the way and press the front brake lever and the rear brake pedal, matching the pressing force with the required rate of deceleration of the moped. Remember that sharp braking can lead to wheel locking, skidding and falling of the moped.
Attention! Be especially careful when driving on a wet, slippery road, as in this case the braking distance increases sharply and the likelihood of skidding due to the deterioration of adhesion of the moped tires to the road surface. In addition, the effectiveness of the brakes is reduced due to wetness of the brake pads.
6.4. Stopping and Parking Turn on your turn signal in advance to alert other road users that you intend to stop. Perform braking in accordance with the recommendations set out in the “braking” paragraph. After the moped has come to a complete stop, turn off the engine by turning the ignition key to position.
Attention! Do not turn off the ignition while the moped is moving, because in this case, the electrical circuits will open, which can lead to an accident.
Place the moped on its side stand. Make sure you do not interfere with traffic. Lock the steering wheel lock to prevent possible theft.
Attention! Do not leave the moped on a slope or loose surface; he may fall.
7. Running in the moped
Reliability, trouble-free and durable operation of a moped depend on the initial period of operation. During running-in, the working surfaces of parts and assemblies are worn in. The moped's running-in period is set at 1,500 km. When running in, fulfill the following requirements: it is necessary to change the engine speed and do not let the engine run at a constant speed for a long time, do not overload the engine, and avoid driving on difficult roads.

Perform maintenance of the moped in accordance with the table

If your moped is used in difficult conditions (long-term operation at full power or operation on dusty roads), some types of maintenance should be performed more often to improve reliability.
8.1. Battery The moped engine is equipped with an electronic contactless ignition system, the operation of which does not require an external power source, i.e. The engine can be started with a discharged battery or even without it. However, for normal operation of lighting and alarm devices, you must have a charged battery, which is located under the right decorative cover. To provide access to the battery, unscrew the fastening bolt located on the top wall of the cover and, avoiding excessive bending forces, carefully remove the cover. Battery care involves maintaining the normal electrolyte level (between the upper and lower marks on the side wall of the case) and the electrolyte density, which should be 1.25...1.27 g/cm3 when the battery is fully charged. Rated battery voltage 12 V, capacity – 4 Ah. When the voltage is less than 11.5 V, it is recommended to start the engine with a kick starter.
Attention! Do not store the battery for long periods of time in a discharged state, as this sharply reduces its service life and can lead to premature failure.
In case of a long break in the operation of the motorcycle, disconnect the “-” terminal from the on-board network and periodically recharge the battery with a direct current of no more than 0.5A.
8.2. fuse protects an electrical circuit from a short circuit. It is installed in a capsule located next to the battery. If there is no voltage in the electrical network, check the serviceability of the fuse. If the fuse is broken, replace it with a similar one (current 10A). Keep the contact surfaces of the fuse clean.
8.3. Spark plug Attention! While the engine is running, the spark plug and other parts become hot, so to avoid burns, allow the engine to cool before removing the spark plug.
Replace the spark plug only with one identical to the one installed on the engine of your moped or similar in characteristics, for example. NGK C7HSA or NGK CR7HSA
Attention! When dismantling the spark plug, do not allow dirt and foreign objects to enter the cylinder through the spark plug hole.
Clean the spark plug from carbon deposits after running the first 500, 1500, 3000 km, and then at intervals of 2000 km. To do this, unscrew it from the spark plug hole of the cylinder head, clean it of solid carbon particles and rinse with solvent or pure gasoline. Before installing the spark plug in place, check the gap between its electrodes, which should be 0.6..0.8 mm. Adjust the gap by bending the side electrode.
8.4. Engine oil
Checking the oil level in the engine crankcase. Place the moped on a horizontal platform so that the plane of rotation of its wheels is in a vertical position. Unscrew the dipstick located on the right side of the engine crankcase (Fig. 13, item 1). The oil should be at a level between the lower and upper marks of the dipstick. If necessary, add oil for four-stroke engines API SE,SF with SAE 15W40 viscosity. Attention! Use only special oil for four-stroke engines. Do not mix different types of oils.
The frequency of engine oil changes is in accordance with the “Maintenance” table.
Attention! Do not operate the moped with insufficient oil level in the engine, as this will lead to its failure. Change the oil in a timely manner - the reliability and durability of your moped’s engine depends on it.
Changing the engine oil.
Attention! When draining oil from a warm engine, be careful because... it has a high temperature.
Start and warm up the engine for 4-5 minutes. Carefully remove the dipstick and drain plug and drain the oil from the engine crankcase into a waste oil container. Reinstall and tighten the drain plug and fill the engine crankcase with 0.9 liters of engine oil for four-stroke engines API SE,SF with a viscosity of SAE 15W40. After 20-30 seconds. Check the oil level in the engine crankcase using the dipstick.
8.5. Clutch adjustment
By rotating the adjusting nuts, set the threaded end of the clutch cable sheath to a position in which the free play at the end of the clutch lever is 1.5-2mm. In this case, the free play at the end of the clutch release lever (on the left side of the steering wheel) should be 10 - 15 mm. After completing the clutch adjustment procedure, check the tightness of the adjusting nuts.
8.6. Brakes
The rate of wear of the friction linings of brake pads, and therefore the need to adjust the brake drive mechanisms, directly depends on the condition of the road surface and driving style. When operating a motorcycle on unpaved, dusty or muddy roads, in hilly terrain, or during frequent heavy braking, the brake pad linings wear out much faster than under normal conditions, which necessitates more frequent brake adjustments and brake pad replacements.
Attention! Regularly check the condition of the friction linings of the brake pads. If the thickness of the lining in any area is less than 1.5 mm, replace the brake pad.
Front brake maintenance and adjustment
By rotating the adjusting nut, adjust the length of the cable so that the free play, measured at the end of the front brake lever, is 8-15mm. When the lever is released, the wheel should rotate freely, without the brake pads touching the wheel brake drum. After completing the adjustment, make sure that the concave end of the adjusting nut fits snugly against the cylindrical surface of the pin.

When the pedal is released, the wheel should rotate freely, without the brake pads touching the wheel brake drum. After completing the adjustment, make sure that the concave end of the adjusting nut fits snugly against the cylindrical surface of the pin.
8.7. Lubrication and chain tension adjustment
The service life of the chain depends on its timely maintenance, which boils down to periodic adjustment and lubrication.
Attention! Use special drive chain lubricant. The use of engine oil and other lubricants will significantly reduce the life of the chain.
The drive chain of the rear wheel of the moped is protected from contamination by a casing. To control the chain tension and apply lubricant, there is a hole in the lower left part of the casing, closed with a plastic plug. Remove the plug and check the vertical movement of the lower chain leg. It should be 15-20 mm. Adjust the chain tension in the following sequence: 1. loosen the wheel axle nut 2. evenly rotate the brace nuts to adjust the required chain tension. 3. Tighten the axle nut.
The front and rear wheels should be in the same plane after adjustment.
Attention! After adjusting the chain tension, be sure to adjust the rear wheel brake.
When the adjustment limit is reached, the chain must be replaced with a new one. To increase the service life of the chain, replace it together with the drive and driven stars.
8.8. Fuel hose
Check the condition of the fuel hose regularly. If cracks, tears or other defects are found, or if elasticity is lost, replace the hose with a new one. The fuel hose has a service life of four years.
8.9 Air filter
Air filter maintenance involves periodically cleaning or replacing the filter. Cleaning should be done every 1000 km, and when using a moped in a dusty area, every 500 km! Attention! When washing the moped, avoid getting water into the air filter. This moped uses a dry type air filter. The filter element itself is made of special paper. Over time, the filter element becomes clogged and a lot of dust settles in it. Therefore, its throughput is reduced. That is, less air enters the carburetor, thereby changing its settings. Therefore, it is necessary to periodically clean or replace the air filter element. The manufacturer recommends replacing the filter element every 5,000 km. The procedure for cleaning the filter element: 1. Disconnect the air pipe from the carburetor; 2. Unscrew the screw and remove the left decorative cover of the moped trim; 3.Remove the battery; 4.Having removed the screw clamps securing the halves of the air filter housing, remove the air filter filter element; 5. Inspect the filter element (if damage is noticeable, loose fit to the edges of the filter housing, ruptures, through holes), then the filter element must be replaced; 6.Clean and blow the filter with clean air; 7. Wipe the inside of the body with a rag moistened with gasoline, and then wipe dry with a cotton cloth (you need to wipe it carefully so that there is no dust or threads left that could get into the carburetor and clog the valves or jets); 8. Install the filter element in the reverse order of removal;
Attention! Operating a moped with a damaged filter element or without it is unacceptable, as it leads to failure of engine parts. Never run the engine without a filter element.
8.10 Carburetor
Optimal power, fuel-economic and environmental parameters of the engine largely depend on the correct operation of the carburetor.
Attention! Since carburetor adjustment is a rather complex operation that requires a lot of experience and appropriate qualifications, we recommend that, if necessary, you entrust it to specialists from a service station.
Before you begin adjusting the carburetor, make sure that the air filter element is not dirty or defective. Start adjusting the carburetor by checking the free play of the throttle cable, which should be 0.5-1.0 mm. To adjust it, loosen the locknut of the cable sheath stop under the throttle control handle, and by rotating the adjusting nut of the sheath stop, set it to a position where the free play of the cable sheath will be 0.5-1.0 mm. Secure the adjusting nut of the stop with a locknut.
Start the idle speed adjustment procedure by warming up the engine to operating temperature.
Idle speed adjustment. Screw 1 for adjusting the throttle position at idle speed. By rotating adjusting screw 1 clockwise, the idle speed increases; counterclockwise - decrease.
Adjusting the composition of the fuel mixture. During operation of a motorcycle, the greatest influence on the composition of the fuel mixture in the range from И to Е of the throttle valve lift is exerted by the position of the metering needle, access to which is provided after removing the top cover of the carburetor, removing the throttle valve from it and separating the throttle cable and return spring from it. To allow adjustment, there are five annular grooves in the upper part of the dosing needle, in one of which a lock washer is installed. The factory setting is a washer in the middle groove. To enrich the fuel mixture, the washer must be installed in the groove located below; for depletion – higher.
8.11 Tires
Check the air pressure in the tires (front wheel - 175kPa; rear wheel - 225kPa.), for damage - cracks, cuts. Pressure should be measured on cold wheels. Tire tread must be at least 1.5 mm deep. If the tires become unusable, it is necessary to replace them with similar ones, size: front 2.50 - 17, rear 2.75 - 17.
Attention! Insufficient tire pressure not only accelerates tire wear, but also significantly affects the stability and handling of the motorcycle. A tire with low pressure makes it difficult to turn, and with high pressure it reduces the contact patch of the wheel with the road, which can lead to skidding on a slippery road and loss of control over the motorcycle.
9. Preservation procedure
If the moped is not used for a long time (in winter or for another reason), it must be mothballed.
- Before storing, thoroughly wash and dry the moped.
- Fill the fuel tank with gasoline.
- Place the motorcycle on the center stand.
- Disconnect the wires from the battery by first disconnecting the “-” terminal. During storage, monitor the condition of the battery in accordance with the “Battery” section.
- Remove the spark plug and pour 3-5 cm3 of engine oil into the cylinder. Press the kick starter pedal several times. Reinstall the spark plug.
- Apply a preservative lubricant to the surfaces of chrome and galvanized parts using a spray bottle or brush. Treat vinyl and rubber surfaces with a rubber preservative, and painted surfaces with an automotive preservative.
- Maintain tire pressure according to the Tires section.
- Store the moped in a place protected from sunlight and precipitation, away from heating devices and aggressive environments.
Attention! During long-term storage, we recommend that you cover the moped with a protective cover.
10. Re-preservation procedure
- Wipe the moped

Vibration damage
Some moped breakdowns may be associated with the destruction of its load-bearing elements. The plastic front wing on the Alpha lasts longer than the metal one, since it is less susceptible to the negative effects of vibration. Engine mounting points on the frame can also be damaged due to vibration. To avoid this, you need to weld wide washers onto them. After 2-3 seasons, the battery loses up to 50% of its capacity, so its regular replacement is also advisable. Electrical clutch and turn signal sensors must operate normally. Both safety while driving and correct control of gear shifting depend on them. The standard rear shock absorbers on the Alfa wear out, which can lead to unwanted friction between the rear wheel and the inner surface of the rear wing. There are luxury rear shock absorber options for the Alfa that allow you to put fat tires on the rear wheels, as they can help raise the rear of the bike a little. If you handle fasteners with care, serious problems with the repair of this moped are unlikely.
Advantages. Flaws
The devices have corresponding advantages and disadvantages. The advantages are usually considered to be low fuel consumption, maneuverability, relatively small dimensions, modest weight, maintainability, good acceleration dynamics, and affordable cost.
There are few disadvantages, and some are the reverse side of the advantages: modest overall dimensions make it difficult for other road users to be detected in a timely manner, which can lead to an emergency; car thieves can take away the “horse” they like; the low speed makes it difficult to use outside the city. Often there is no passenger seat, however, there are two-seater modifications.
Run-in
Running in the Alpha moped (72 cc) does not take much time and has several main conditions for obtaining the correct result. It is necessary to strictly observe the speed limit until the first thousand kilometers, you must not overheat the engine by forcing it to operate at maximum speed for more than 20 minutes, and you should also change the oil after 500, 1000, 2000 and 5000 km.
Modifications
Review of the Alpha 72 cc moped. would not be complete without listing its main modifications. There are two frame options for this moped. This is high, with space for a large gas tank, and low, where the gas tank is small and the trunk is located above it. In terms of their characteristics, both versions of the moped will be almost identical, with the exception of the difference in the volume of gas tanks and a slight difference in seat height. "Alpha" is made by a number of Chinese manufacturers, so there are many parallel names for the same model.
