What kind of oil is in the ant gearbox. Ant three-wheeled scooter - review. Device and technical parameters

I have been repairing “Ants” for a total of more than 10 years. And no matter how much I repair them, I never cease to be amazed at how disdainful, I would even say barbaric, the owners treat their own equipment. Well, yes, this technique is not the height of perfection and not even the ultimate dream, but it is yours. What's the point of killing it and then repairing it?

Sometimes, as soon as you open the engine, there is oil there from the time of virgin soil, and it is not uncommon for it to be filled much less than the required level. That's where this comes from?.. Is it really so difficult for money to buy a liter of the cheapest collective farm M8B at least once a season and change it???

It is best to change the engine oil immediately after a trip or, in extreme cases, after a good warm-up. We are looking for a container into which we will drain the waste. I use a cut plastic canister for this purpose.

We look for a drain plug at the bottom of the clutch cover, place a container under it, use a 17 key to unscrew the plug and drain the oil. If the oil is hot, it will drain in just a couple of minutes.

What came out of the engine looks a lot like slurry.

After the oil has drained, wipe the drain hole with a clean rag, check the gasket for integrity, wash the drain plug in clean gasoline, apply a little sealant to it and screw the plug into place.

I almost never buy oil for “Ants” myself - I fill it with whatever the client buys. Clients, one and all, buy the cheapest thing - an analogue of the Soviet Zhiguli M8B in our case: ordinary mineral water, the lowest quality API SB/CD. By and large, “Ant” doesn’t need anything better. For him, Avtol was once the limit of perfection, and API SB/CD was beyond his eyes...

A liter canister of our cheapest oil costs around 100 rubles. You can also buy a 4-liter canister - it’s more profitable.

Unscrew the three bolts on the clutch cover, remove the plug and fill the engine with oil.

Fill the oil exactly until it reaches the top edge of the filler neck. One fill takes approximately 750 ml of oil - a liter canister is enough and there is still a little left for topping up until the next change

The Ant scooter was produced at the Tula Machine-Building Plant from 1959 to 1995. Its modification, or as they say now, restyling, was carried out in 1983 and the updated version received the designation Ant 2M 01. The longevity of this unusual three-wheeled vehicle was brought, first of all, by positive qualities, among which it is necessary to highlight:

  • versatility;
  • affordable price;
  • simple repair;
  • compactness;
  • maneuverability.

The TMZ Ant scooter was the first cargo model of motorcycle equipment mass-produced in the USSR. The presence of a cargo platform allowing it to transport 250 kg of cargo at a speed of 60 km/h made the Ant very popular. It is enough to note the areas in which it was used:

  1. Transportation within the city, including small batches of products for restaurants, cafes and canteens.
  2. In-plant transportation, when small batches of certain components were moved between production departments.
  3. Transportation of small volumes of building materials, especially in urban environments.
  4. Carrying out transportation inside enclosed spaces, primarily for agricultural purposes (greenhouses, poultry farms, livestock farms).

For various modifications of the TMZ Ant scooter, four body options were used:

  • open;
  • open reduced (installed on the cargo-passenger version);
  • awning;
  • van.

The most significant drawback is the lack of any comfort for the driver, who was forced to spend almost the entire working day behind the wheel of a scooter. It was especially difficult to work in winter, since, unlike two-wheeled mopeds, scooters and motorcycles, the Ant cargo scooter was used at state-owned enterprises even in winter.

What kind of oil should be poured into the box of the MTZ 09 walk-behind tractor?

pp., being prepared to replace MTZ-09N), it is worth using diesel oil. Here you need to look at what season it is, because there is both winter and summer. What if you have a gasoline walk-behind tractor (for example, MTZ Belarus 09-N), but there are no instructions? Then SAE 30 will do, or you can purchase 5w30 or 10w30.

Interesting materials:

Why do puff pastries turn out dry? Why are elephants becoming extinct? Why doesn't snow melt over fire? Why does the bullfinch come to us for the winter? Why daughter-in-law? Why does a dog mark? Why might a dog be lethargic? Why does a dog sleep on its stomach? Why does soy sauce foam? Why does juniper dry out at home?

Device and technical parameters

The design of the Ant scooter was quite simple and consisted of the following main parts:

  • engine;
  • frame;
  • transmission and suspension;
  • electrical equipment;
  • brake system;
  • body.

Such a simple design of the Ant 2M 01 scooter and its wide unification with the two-wheeled Tulitsa (Tula) model allowed the owners to carry out repairs themselves.

The TMZ Ant motor scooter had the following technical characteristics and operational parameters (data for modification of the Ant 2M motor scooter are given in parentheses):

  1. Drive – 3x2.
  2. Load capacity – 0.25 t (0.28 t).
  3. Engine: type – petrol two-stroke,
  4. ignition – electronic;
  5. number of cylinders – 1,
  6. volume – 0.20 l,
  7. cooling option – forced air,
  8. power – 11.0 l. With. (12.5 hp),
  9. carburetor - K-36G,
  10. fuel – a mixture of gasoline and oil (1/33).
  • Dimensions:
      base – 1.78 m,
  • length – 2.68 m,
  • width – 1.25 m,
  • height – 2.16 m,
  • track – 1.05 m,
  • ground clearance - 0.12 m.
  • Transmission:
      type – mechanical,
  • number of gears – 4,
  • reverse gear - through a reverse gearbox,
  • Switching method: foot pedal.
  • Common data:
      weight – 0.24 t,
  • maximum speed – 60 km/h, (62 km/h),
  • fuel tank volume – 13.0 l,
  • fuel consumption – 6.2 l, (6.0 l),
  • wheel size – 4.00–10.
  • Engine oil quantity

    The user manual for the use of a specific model of equipment must indicate how much oil is needed in the walk-behind tractor for its efficient operation. If there is no annotation, there are several general rules. Before replacing, you need to warm up the unit and install it horizontally. If there is residual fluid in the engine crankcase, it must be drained by unscrewing the drain plug. Then it is screwed back in and a new component is poured through the neck. You can control the liquid level with a dipstick; it should be between the Min and Max marks. An agricultural machine, depending on its engine size, requires from 0.6 to 1.1 liters of lubricant.

    Three-wheeled cargo motorcycle: characteristics, description, photo

    We bring to your attention a review of the legendary tricycle Ant . This Soviet cargo moped with three wheels has earned wide popularity among the residents of our country almost from the moment of its release. First of all, the vehicle was highly appreciated due to its affordable price and versatility. In addition, the performance of the bike stood out. With a weight of 240 kg, the vehicle could transport loads weighing 250 kg, as a result of which it became an indispensable assistant in agriculture.

    And today the Ant scooter is highly valued among our compatriots. Its functional parameters have not lost their relevance today. As a result, in rural or summer cottages you can quite often find such a tricycle.

    History of creation

    During the Soviet years, the Tula plant produced large quantities of passenger and cargo scooters similar to scooters. Many of the modifications were limited to experimental series and never went into mass production. However, one of them, the “Ant” cargo motorcycle, affectionately so-called among the people, did not belong to their category. This small “hard worker” was very popular not only in the USSR, but also beyond its borders. Demand for it gradually increased and in the nineties, assembly models of these cargo motorcycles began to be exported to Colombia, Argentina and Mexico. In a short time, almost thirteen thousand complete pieces were delivered to these countries. Even the Argentine special services liked the quality of this Soviet scooter, who ordered an “Ant” motorcycle for the police with a special cabin and a covered body with windows for passengers.

    Replacement timing

    The frequency of changing the oil in the gearbox depends on the type of gearbox of the car. If the car has manual gear shifting, the lubricant is changed every 50,000 km, if automatic - after 30,000 km.

    The frequency of replacement is also affected by the operating conditions of the car. The oil in machines operating in difficult conditions is changed more often. These include:

    • driving on bad roads;
    • constant maximum load;

    • Frequent towing of cars and trailers.

    On a note! In new cars, it is recommended to change the oil after 2,000–3,000 km, since new components are just being ground in, and during this period wear products are intensively formed.

    Often, car enthusiasts pour oil into the gearbox along with the gearbox. The same transmission composition is used for both units.

    It is recommended to always check the oil level in cars purchased outside the dealership and already used. Carrying out pre-sale preparation, car owners change the lubricant, but only where a potential buyer can easily check it. This does not apply to the gearbox - it is not so easy to find out that the lubricant in it needs to be changed.

    Steering of a VAZ 2107 car

    On the VAZ 2107 model, the steering has a safety design with an articulated-lever steering wheel drive and a worm-roller gearbox.

    • The steering gearbox is secured with three bolts in the engine compartment on the left side member.
    • An adjusting screw installed on the top cover of the gear housing can be used to adjust the gap in the engagement of the double-ridge roller and the worm built into the structure of the device.
    • Approximately 0.2 liters of oil is poured into the steering gear housing.
    • To fill the oil, there is a filling hole on the top cover of the gearbox housing. There is no hole for draining the oil; fluid is only added to the VAZ 2107 if necessary.

    Filling oil in the steering gearbox

    Before adding oil, check the oil level:

    • The vacuum booster is removed.
    • Using a key set to “8”, unscrew the plug for filling oil into the gearbox, which has a conical thread.
    • A special rod is used to check the oil level. To do this, the rod is inserted all the way into the gearbox, as shown in the photo.
    • From the top edge of the filling hole, the oil level should be at a depth of 15 millimeters.
    • If you need to change the oil in the steering gear of a VAZ 2107, then use a spanner wrench to “13” to remove the four bolts that secure the lower cover of the gearbox.
    • Just slide the lid and pour the oil into the container.
    • The cover is put in place, secured with bolts and new oil is poured.
    • The plug is screwed into the filler hole.

    Timely oil changes in the main components of the VAZ 2107 will increase its service life without costly repairs. And the price for oil changes is acceptable for all car owners.

    Greetings) Of course, the oil in the axles changes depending on the mileage, but the car was recently purchased, what and when the previous owners filled in the axles is unclear, so I decided to change everything. To do this, I purchased 3 liters of Liqui Moly gear oil with a viscosity of 75W90 and 6 cans of Step-Up universal cleaner.

    1) Clean the gearbox cover with a wire brush to remove any adhering dirt.

    Something like this.

    From under the dirt appeared the nameplates, in this case 3.73 (gear ratio).

    Part number and year of manufacture (2004)

    2) Unscrew the filler plug (3/8″ square). You should always start with the filler plug, because if it doesn’t come off, it’s better not to start.

    3) Look how black the oil is.

    4) Unscrew the cover bolts (head 17/32 - approximately 13.5 mm).

    5) Remove the lid and drain the old oil. Be careful, don't get wet.

    6) Thoroughly spray all the insides of the bridge with cleaner (you can use any automotive aerosol).

    7) Use a wire brush to remove any remaining old sealant.

    Once again we spill everything with cleaner.

    9) Use a rag to collect the remaining cleaner from the differential housing.

    10) Thoroughly blow out all the insides with compressed air (the task is to completely dry the remaining cleaner).

    11) Moving on to the lid, it also needs to be thoroughly cleaned of sealant and dirt.

    12) Wash and dry the lid.

    Do not skimp on sealant; purchase only high-quality high-temperature automotive sealant.

    13) Apply sealant.

    The sealant must be applied in an even roller with a diameter of about 6 mm without breaks. The holes should be bypassed from the inside.

    14) Carefully, trying not to lubricate the sealant, install the cover in place.

    15) Tighten the fastening bolts with a torque wrench (torque 41 N*m). Carefully wipe off excess sealant with a rag. Do not rush to pour oil right away, let the sealant dry.

    With the rear gearbox everything is exactly the same. The only thing is that its lid turned out to be more rusty. Therefore, it was decided to sandblast it.

    Now she is already in her place.

    I will describe the process of pouring oil in words - bring the car suspension into working position (support it from below or put it on the wheels), pour oil through the filler hole to the level of the plug (until it starts to pour back out), replace the plug (lubricating it with a thin layer of sealant). I hope this article is useful to you.

    Ps I apologize for the poor quality of the photos, I took the photos on my phone.

    I also adjusted the rear pads today, it looks like no one was there from the factory. We didn’t use the handbrake because it was an automatic transmission. Tags:

    What kind of oil to pour into the rear axle gearbox of the VAZ 2107

    The main disadvantages of a scooter and its modernization

    The Ant scooter, like any technology, in addition to its positive qualities, also had disadvantages. At the same time, the existing shortcomings could be attributed both to structural ones, originally inherent in the device, and to operational ones, arising during the operation of the equipment.

    According to reviews from owners, structural defects that required rework or the most frequent repair of a particular unit include:

    • an unsuccessful electrical circuit of the scooter, often leading to failure of components (din-starter, relay-regulator, ignition coil), especially in rainy weather;
    • an undeveloped gearbox device often with poor-quality factory assembly led to a crash during 2nd or 3rd gear operation. To fix it, the owners had to study the structure of the box itself, as well as how to properly disassemble and then reassemble the gearbox after repair;
    • a small difference in fuel levels between the tank and the carburetor chamber led, when there was little fuel in the tank, to running on a lean mixture or stopping the engine.

    The most common operational deficiencies are:

    • unstable ignition on the Ant requiring frequent adjustments;
    • short service life of brake pads;
    • loss of hydraulic fluid from shock absorbers, requiring disassembly, refilling and reassembly of shock absorbers for repairs;
    • malfunction of the electrical equipment of the starter dyno under the influence of dirt, water, dust. Repairs were carried out by disassembling and reassembling, checking the electrical circuit, searching for and replacing the failed element;
    • occurrence of cracks in the frame;
    • oil leak in the gearbox.

    Very often, the owners, having gained experience in operating the Ant scooter, carried out modernization. But before starting to implement the changes, the following issues were resolved:

    1. How much is it?
    2. What will the modified Ant look like?
    3. How to find and collect the necessary materials for upgrading?
    4. How much will the scooter weigh after the modification and how will this affect the technical characteristics?
    5. How long will it take to remodel?

    Can I use car oil?

    It is strictly forbidden to use machine oil in walk-behind tractors. Unlike a car engine, a walk-behind tractor has certain lubrication principles and corresponding operating temperature conditions. In addition, walk-behind tractor engines have certain features. These include the material of construction from which it is made, as well as the degree of forcing. In many cases, these nuances are incompatible with the characteristics of automobile oils.

    How to change?

    Anyone can replace the lubricant in a walk-behind tractor, but if there is any doubt, it is better to contact a highly qualified specialist. The procedure for updating with oil fluid in any model of walk-behind tractor is no different from each other, be it an Enifield Titan MK1000 or any other motor from the Nikkey line.

    First of all, you should remember that the oil is changed only when the engine is hot, that is, the system must first operate for at least 30 minutes. This rule applies not only to four-stroke engines, but also to two-stroke engines.

    Thanks to the above nuance, the warm waste mixture easily flows into the container placed below. Once the used oil is completely gone, you can begin the replacement process.

    First you need to unscrew the breather plug, drain the remaining used oil and, if necessary, change the additional oil and air filter. Then you need to fill in fresh fluid and return the plug to its place. New oil should be poured carefully so that it does not get on other parts of the system, otherwise an unpleasant odor will occur.

    A few words about the trailer

    You can also make a trike yourself. The spaciousness of the body is indicated by the photo of the Ant scooter. A standard trailer consists of:

    It will also be interesting: Motorcycles Voskhod will remain in the hearts of Soviet motorcycle racers to this day

    When working on the trike, it is very important to ensure that the trailer shell does not come into contact with the bracket. To increase the rigidity of the body, a steel gusset can be welded. In addition, it is important to make a homemade trike with an opening and removable tailgate. The sides and bottom are covered with boards. Additionally, the trailer is equipped with lighting equipment (dimensions, brake lights, turn signals).

    Preparing for replacement

    Before pouring oil into the gearbox, it is recommended to drive the car 5–10 km so that the fluid being replaced is less viscous.

    Procedure for preparing for an oil change:

    1. Change into work clothes made from natural material so that they do not stick to your skin. Wear protection over your eyes, mouth and nose. If liquid gets on them, there will be a burn to the mucous membranes.
    2. Prepare 3 liters of transmission oil - 1.4 will go into the box, 1.3 - into the gearbox. The residue can be used to lubricate locks, etc.
    3. It is advisable to place the machine on an inspection hole - this will allow you to gain access to the unit of interest. Securely secure the car, put it on the handbrake. And for greater reliability, place stoppers under the wheels.
    4. Take a brush with metal bristles and clean the surfaces in the area of the filler and drain holes.
    5. At the same time, pay attention to the condition of the seals. If they are worn out, the working fluid gradually leaks out of the gearbox. If you see smudges near the seals, it is better to change them immediately.

    For pouring, you can also use a watering can and a rubber hose. Insert one end into the gearbox, the other end into the engine compartment. The disadvantage is that the oil must warm up. It only needs to be changed in the summer.

    On a note! Before changing the lubricant, make sure that the gearbox is not hot. If the heated composition comes into contact with the skin, there will be a burn.

    Another important point.

    When controlling a walk-behind tractor, when moving it, the question arises:

    For driving? This is especially interesting when moving independently with a seat adapter. As, for example, with a trailer equipped with a saddle for the driver. The fact is that the walk-behind tractor is an off-road vehicle. That is, it is designed for off-road travel. A driver's license or license is not required to operate a walk-behind tractor, since the walk-behind tractor is not a participant in road traffic.
