Brief history of the model

2001 - 2002 - generations K - 1 and K - 2. The Suzuki GSX-R 1100 is replaced by an updated model - the Suzuki GSX-R 1000. The new model receives a specially designed injection engine producing 160 hp. power and 110 Nm of torque. Thanks to the use of lightweight construction and a lightweight titanium exhaust system, it was possible to create a powerful liter sportbike with a dry weight of only 170 kilograms.

2003 - 2004 - generations K - 3 and K - 4. During this period, the model is being updated. The main emphasis of Suzuki engineers was on reducing the weight of the motorcycle, increasing its power and handling. 6-piston brake calipers are replaced with 4-piston ones, and the brake discs are also lighter. In addition, the Suzuki GSX-R 1000 gets an updated look (inspired by the GSX 1300 R Hayabusa) and an LED brake light.

2005 - 2006 - generations K - 5 and K - 6. The motorcycle receives a new frame, engine and chassis. Engine capacity increases by 11 cubic meters. see (thanks to the use of new pistons), maximum power increases to 162.1 hp, and torque becomes equal to 108 Nm. The front brake discs become 310 mm in diameter, and the calipers become radial.

2007 - 2008 - generations K - 7 and K - 8. The new generation of the motorcycle receives an updated exhaust system to reduce emissions, which forced the weight of the motorcycle to increase by almost 6.5 kilograms. To compensate for this, Suzuki engineers improved the bike's aerodynamics and increased the throttle valves. Using the on-board computer it was now possible to control engine operating modes.

2009 - 2011 - generations K - 9, L - 0 and L - 1. The model is undergoing a major update. In particular, it receives a new engine with an increased compression ratio (12.8:1) and a new Showa front fork.

2012 - the model receives another engine update, increasing its compression ratio (up to 12.9:1). Tokico front brake calipers are replaced by Brembo calipers. The total curb weight is only 203 kilograms.

2013 - 2015 - motorcycles of these years of production differ only in the colors of the plastic.

In its latest incarnation, the Suzuki GSX-R1000 K7, although it added a certain amount of hp, formally becoming almost the most powerful of large-scale sportbikes, still made some concessions towards the now fashionable tolerance and friendliness towards users who are not entirely confident in themselves. However, at his core, he still remained an uncompromising fighter of space and time, as well as a destroyer of illusions about his own driving talents.

Suzuki GSX-R1000 2007-2008 (K7, K8)

Yes, there is a power switch with three positions, where in the softest mode (C) the engine produces only 104 hp. on the rear wheel. An excellent option for driving in the rain or for an unknown wind, a wimp who is afraid of even his own shadow and is unable to move on anything other than a scooter, preferably not a very powerful one.

It's hard to be objective when you're dealing with such colossal power. Therefore, I will not particularly focus on the acceleration parameters, I will only say that this is the rare case when there are enough of them, and enough in any case and in any situation. In my memory, there are only three liter sportbikes capable of wheelie from third gear, and one of them is the K6, and the second is the K7! There is enough traction even in sixth gear at 70 km/h!

The huge painful formations on both sides are not entirely clear; apparently, according to the designers’ plans, they were designed to represent silencers. The official version of Suzuki on this matter is that in this way the designers remained within the strict limits of Euro-3, while losing virtually no power. Perhaps, but with such huge “ends” the Suzuki K7 resembles not so much a sportbike as a sport-tourer, in general, it’s not “ice” at all.

If I were the owner of a K7, the first thing I would do would be to amputate these misunderstandings by installing something small, straight-through. As for the rest - I want it! I want those 190 hp. (taking into account inertial boost), I want this design, I want a 299 km/h electronically limited maximum speed, which can be reached with frightening ease. And the price, taking into account what the consumer ultimately receives, seems quite justified to me. As for the negative, of course, it is also present here. Probably, the latest generation of Yamaha YZF-R1 has slightly better brakes, apparently, it would not hurt to reduce the curb weight, the same K6 was lighter, it would be nice to finally see an adjustable steering damper on this model of the company.

But all this is just the dissatisfied muttering of someone fed up with beautiful divas, or, in my opinion, he wrote, or more correctly, an expert on the best sports bikes.

But over many years of work, you know, I’ve gotten used to everything better, so a sportbike can be absolutely anything, provided that it’s a Suzuki GSX-R1000.
