Motorcycle Irbis 150 – review

Russian-Chinese motorcycles have not yet taken their rightful place in the global motorcycle industry.

Firms of all stripes are constantly competing, trying to create special concepts.

However, the attention of ordinary customers should also be attracted by something, and for such cases there is an excellent road bike - the Irbis GS 150.

Description of the motorcycle

A distinctive feature of the motorcycle is its engine, with a nominal volume of 150 cc. cm.

And you shouldn’t be biased, because in this project the developers removed everything that was possible and not possible from the engine .

The developers primarily focused on people who are not very experienced in expensive and powerful motorcycles.

Their brainchild is universal: you can drive it around the city and go to the countryside .

The design of the case can also be called unusual, since the reinforced suspension will allow you to have more interesting adventures associated with the “iron horse”.

A large number of colors and a completely low-budget look creates an image that is a little more serious and powerful than it really is.

The ergonomics of the dashboard will be good news not only for beginners who are behind the wheel for the first time.

For convenience, the motorcycle is equipped with a luggage compartment of medium capacity , so when traveling you don’t have to weigh both yourself and the bike with bags.

For beauty, the bike is equipped with cast aluminum wheels .

In addition to the simple and reliable design, the Suzuki Jebel 200 has the advantage of a low price, which makes it popular even now.

Thanks to its compactness and low weight, this representative of the Suzuki lineup turned out to be fast and maneuverable.

Specifications

You cannot compare the Irbis GS 150 motorcycle with legendary models, because it is a simple, solid bike, not designed for anything supernatural.

The price-quality ratio is at a high level.

Reviews from people indicate instability of the chain after long trips, as well as problems with plastic parts.

The model is a legitimate continuation of the Irbis GS 110 , but with a stronger engine and an updated design.

This domestic unit has sunk into the souls of local residents, thanks to the above-mentioned advantages.

Now they are starting to use it in regional competitions, especially in youth leagues.

Estimated cost

A new Irbis GS 150 motorcycle can be purchased for $1,150-$1,300, depending on the place of purchase.

A used bike costs almost half as much - $500-550 (mileage from 750 to 2,000 km).

In a couple of years, this price may drop even lower as the model becomes a little outdated.

The Yamaha Bolt XVS 950 was developed by professionals from Yamaha's American subsidiary, Star Motorcycles.

Chinese motocross motorcycle: how to choose?

Motocross motorcycles are strikingly different from other types of bikes, and to control them you need to have special equipment. Many innovations in such vehicles were introduced back in the 80s. For example, to make it more comfortable to drive, the seat was partially installed above the fuel tank. Drum brakes have been replaced by disc brakes. But when choosing a Chinese motocross motorcycle, consider:

Height

It is important for a beginner to have a bike that allows him to place both feet on the ground while sitting on it. The dimensions of the motorcycle must correspond to the physique of the person who will ride it. Weight

You can understand whether a motorcycle is suitable or not by riding it before buying. This must be done while standing next to the bike, and then sitting on it. Landing. The bike should be comfortable to sit on. It is important that your back and arms are in the correct position. Colors. Many people consider this parameter to be unimportant. But for a beginner, it’s better to buy a bright bike that can be seen in the mountains and on the road. Price. The first motorcycle should not be expensive. And it is better to purchase the following models wisely.

Before buying a motocross motorcycle, you need to understand what you want from it? This vehicle can be chosen for a quiet ride, extreme sports, or rough terrain. The first bike should not be very powerful - a beginner will not be able to cope with this. It is better to abandon a heavy motorcycle, because in the first weeks of riding, the risk of falling from it is high.

Chinese enduro motorcycles: features

The engine capacity of enduro motorcycles ranges from 250 to 450 cm3. Less powerful models are suitable for those who need a bike to ride on city streets, go out of town or for tourism purposes.

Models with capacity from 300 cm3. – have a more professional bias and are suitable for motocross. However, they can also be used as an everyday means of transportation. The cost of specific enduro models depends on engine size. At the same time, such Chinese motorcycles have the following common features:

  • Engine. Typically, enduro bikes produced by Chinese manufacturers are equipped with unboosted engines. This makes it possible to ride at lower speeds, eliminating overheating of the power unit. There are also water and oil cooled motorcycles.
  • Transmission. Enduros have a manual gearbox, otherwise controlling the bike will become more difficult and only pros will be able to ride it.
  • Wheels. The front ones are 21 inches and the rear ones are 18 inches. But there are a number of manufacturers that produce bikes with other wheel sizes.
  • Electric starter. Installed on all enduro. But structurally, you can also use a kickstarter if the battery runs out during a trip.
  • Suspension. Compared to cross-country bikes, enduro bikes are softer. Irregularities are better “swallowed” and the ride becomes more comfortable. Suspension stiffness is adjustable to suit driving style and road conditions.
  • Drive chain. It practically does not stretch, is cast from a reinforced stainless alloy, and has a long service life. An item you can rely on!
  • Brakes. Reliable and efficient. Enduros are equipped with a hydraulic disc brake system. They react well if you need to slow down sharply, even on difficult off-road conditions.

Racer Enduro 150 motocross motorcycle is a good choice for beginners

Racer Enduro is a line of off-road motorcycles. Model 150 is the youngest. Thanks to its optimal parameters and powerful performance, this motorcycle has won the love of teenage racers and novice motorcycle enthusiasts. It overcomes off-road conditions with dignity, and also dashes dashingly along an asphalt road. Equipped with everything you need and at the same time compact.

Specifications

Although this particular model is not so popular among motorcycle racers, those who are familiar with it say that this enduro is clearly underrated. However, you shouldn’t expect anything super-powerful from him either.

The main technical parameters of Racer Enduro 150 are as follows:

Engine4 bars, Racer
Engine capacity148 cu. cm
Power10.2 horsepower
Maximum overclockingup to 95 km/h
Gas tank volume5 liters
Gasoline consumption per 100 km2.2 liters
Battery12 V, 6.5 Ah
Motorcycle weight99 kg
Motorcycle length189 cm
Width79 cm

The motorcycle is equipped with a Japanese-made carburetor. Control is carried out by a five-speed manual gearbox. The device starts in two ways: with a claw or with an electric starter.

The engine is weak even for enduro, but some owners of the motorcycle managed to accelerate it to 120 km/h. Anyone who wants to buy a powerful motorcycle for a small amount of money can upgrade the Enduro 150 by equipping it with a stronger engine.

The instrument panel is electromechanical and contains the following information:

  • revolution table;
  • tank volume indicator;
  • speed sensor;
  • current gear and rpm.

This panel is convenient for long journeys. At the same time, you can ride either light or with a motorcycle loaded up to 140 kg. The trip is only possible for one person.

The front suspension is telescopic, and the rear shock absorber is hydraulic.

The exterior design of the Racer Enduro 150 is made in the harsh style of the Land of the Rising Sun. The main body colors are green, orange, gray and brown. The lightness and maneuverability of the motorcycle is evidenced by its appearance: the steering wheel is low, the wheels are spoked with deep tread, allowing you to easily drive over bumps and holes without losing control of the motorcycle. Tires for the Racer Enduro 150 are sourced from Taiwan.

When traveling long distances, you can hang additional trunks and boxes. For this purpose, additional fastenings are provided. There is a small luggage compartment under the seat.

What is it suitable for, where is it used?

The cross-country Enduro 150 can be called a universal type. It will be a great bike for a beginner. It is on it and similar models that it is convenient to learn balance, control and maneuverability on the roads.

The motorcycle is capable of performing the functions of a motocross unit. Therefore, it is also preferred by beginners and experienced motocross participants. On Enduro it is easy to overcome off-road tracks, as well as perform various tricks when jumping on springboards. Unlike true cross-country motorcycles, this Enduro is designed to overcome not closed tracks, but long stretches of road with a complete absence of roads.

The Racer Enduro 150 handles easily on paved trails. It is convenient to use as a vehicle for travel; moreover, its dimensions allow you to load an additional 50 kg (excluding the weight of the motorcyclist), and low fuel consumption will make the trip economical.

Racer Enduro 150 is more suitable for short people. Tall motorcyclists will find it uncomfortable to ride it over long distances.

Advantages and disadvantages of a motorcycle

Before purchasing the Racer Enduro 150, you should weigh the pros and cons. The following facts speak in favor of the purchase:

  • attractive price of 78,700 rubles;
  • low cost and simple maintenance;
  • budget cost of parts;
  • good build quality;
  • maneuverability and good handling on the road with any surface.

This model of cross-country motorcycle does not have many disadvantages, but they do exist:

  • single-seat seating (although this is typical and convenient for enduro);
  • Compared to models in a higher price category, the quality of the Enduro 150 is clearly “lame”.

The first batch of these enduros turned out to be of completely poor quality. The company was experiencing financial difficulties, and therefore there were total savings on parts. The only thing that did not cause negativity was the powerful engine, which was copied from the Honda SL-230 motorcycle. Subsequently, all the shortcomings were eliminated by the manufacturer, but it was not possible to regain the trust of customers.

Summarize

Every year, motocross and enduro become more popular in Russia

When choosing a motorcycle, you need to pay attention to the reputation and reliability of the manufacturer. When choosing such a technique, you should take into account your physical abilities.

Decide which engine to give preference to. It’s better not to skimp on quality, but consider the cost of maintenance.

In addition to the motorcycle, you need to consider the cost of spare parts, their availability and the prices of protective equipment. Cross-country and enduro motorcycles have consumables - almost all parts, many of which need constant replacement. However, this will not stop real fans of rushing into the wind!

Conclusion

The analysis of this particular scooter forced me to change my initially negative attitude towards Chinese technology. Of course, it’s stupid to compare it with Japanese scooters, but, nevertheless, our conclusion is that you can buy Chinese scooters. However, when deciding to buy a new Chinese scooter, you need to be well aware of all the pros and cons of such a decision. And if you decide, then buy only a device with a 4-stroke engine, and only with a full range of pre-sale preparation, since the moped has a number of serious flaws and assembly defects that can only be compensated for by high-quality pre-sale preparation. Without it, problems may begin as soon as operation begins. You will not be able to carry out the pre-sale yourself, since it requires serious disassembly of the scooter, special tools and, accordingly, highly qualified craftsmen.

Pros:

1. A new scooter (not a shame to give)2. Brand guarantee3. 4-stroke engine4. Assembly and engine for a solid four (subject to full pre-sale preparation and only for this model). In any case, when compared with domestically produced mopeds, it’s a shame that the build quality is an order of magnitude higher.5. More than attractive price. Cons:

1. China2. It requires running in strictly 1000 km (in our conditions, when you want to sit down and immediately drive normally, this is an important thing)3. Problems with plastic (plastic 3)4. There is a complete absence of the secondary market (that is, it is practically impossible to sell a used Chinese scooter). Closer to the beginning of the season, we will try to test the driving characteristics of the scooter. In the meantime... think for yourself, decide for yourself whether to have it or not. If we talk about the packaging, then everything is done quite competently: the corners of the wooden sheathing are fastened with iron corners, and the fastening wires are covered with plastic so as not to damage the plastic. The front disc brake has a two-piston caliper. And here are the first defects. The distance between the steering wheel and the seat will provide comfort even for a tall person... the rear brake cable does not allow you to put the steering wheel in place...... the battery supplied with the scooter is quite powerful... A serious omission - the ignition coil (terminals) is located in in a completely unprotected place - expect trouble. Due to the shape of the jumper installed in the hole of the gas tank, gasoline began to splash out... We remove the plastic... and underneath everything is not bad at all. The variator does not cause any complaints - the surface is smooth and polished. We measured the size of the variator belt: width - 18 mm, length 670-675. These dimensions practically correspond to the Honda Dio ZX. The rear shock absorber made a good impression. The spark plug cap is holding very poorly, a piece of the cap was broken off. Replacing the spark plug also turned out to be difficult - the standard key does not fit. The engine is perhaps the most interesting thing about this device. And the most worthy thing. There is an automatic chain tensioner on the cylinder. The overall impression is very good. The valves, chain, bearings are all in good condition. To unscrew the studs, we screwed 2 nuts onto them, tightened them against each other, and then used one of them to unscrew the stud itself. The workmanship of the cylinder and piston seems to be quite good. PS The disassembly of the scooter was carried out in January, and today Hongling scooters appeared in the assortment of the Scootershop store. For now it’s just a trial balloon, but, nevertheless, if such a store has dared to put these mopeds up for sale, then this speaks more about their quality than the results of any test.

About the choice: In general, I didn’t initially plan to buy this motorcycle. Sitting in the garage sawing a frame from a mini sport, I was figuring out how much money I would have to invest in this specific tuning of my Red, the estimate was about $1000, quietly freaking out, I thought that by selling my ABM Wind for 50 dollars for 400 and adding to that thousand, I could buy what no matter the best, and then I remembered the ad in “Wheels.” I urgently close the garage and rush to the computer, open a website with advertisements and really see a Dream for 1,100 American rubles. I type the model in a search engine, look through several forums and understand that everything I need is THERE! A large tank, a tachometer, a speedometer, a display showing the gear engaged, large and wide wheels, hurricane dynamics (hereinafter in the text the comparison is with a 110 cc and a pretty tired scooter) and “as much as” 150 cc in the engine and as many as five gears! I solve the tale and rush to my fellow motorcyclists for advice. About love at first sight: The first date took place in the exhibition hall, looked, touched, sat down. The feeling is great. I talked with a consultant and came to the conclusion that I would take it =) I won’t write about what I saved on, how I saved and where I earned money, but closer to the opening of the season, or rather on March 22nd in the morning, I was stuck in the store with the last part of the money (I took it in installments, it’s more reliable - I earned money and took it to the store. You won’t waste it!) The documents are written out, a minimal amount of gasoline splashes in the tank and I roll out the gate!

About Nauryz: The first sensations are of course harsh - everything is not usual (don’t forget that 2 years before that I went on a scooter, and I haven’t been driving all winter) everything is wrong, the box is wooden because it’s new, the gear arrangement is not usual, the controls are not on the spot. Somehow I get to the gas station and fill the tank, and then with Sanya (Motorcyclist pip-pip to you), (who by the way witnessed the purchase of a motorcycle) we rush to look for bikers who are celebrating Nauryz. The holiday was not a success, the bikers were not found =(

About registration: A little later, the trouble with registration of the motorcycle began; there were problems with documents for both him and me. A protracted process of obtaining a license, several visits to impound lots =) and finally, obtaining a State license. numbers. By the way, by that time, Kiwi (as I affectionately call him) and I had become great friends, he spoiled me with a lot of new impressions, and I spoiled him with expensive (by the standards of spare parts and consumables for Chinese motorcycles) oils and a good break-in =)

About the mileage: During the short motorcycle season of 2011 we covered 12,000 km, Balkhash, Bishkek (Kyrgyzstan), Kapchagai (several times), Ili, Charyn, Almaty region and many circles around the city. There was even one accident and several minor falls due to my stupidity or lack of experience. Several extreme rides in a thunderstorm and through impassable mud.

About the repair: Over the entire 12,000 thousand km, the oil was changed several times, the carburetor was opened and washed in vain (initially it was clean), several unsuccessful attempts were made to blow out the air filter (it was also almost always clean), the original chain was replaced with a more advanced one, but this closer to tuning than to repair, as well as replacing lamps with LEDs and installing lighting under the tank. But not everything is so rosy: There is a small problem with the valves, they are very difficult to adjust, but the perseverance and patience of one good master overcame them. Well, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to change the tires in the first place, otherwise the stock ones don’t hold up on wet roads at all, and they’re still a bit narrow. Another annoying little thing: one of the brake light bulbs periodically lost contact. Everything seems to be okay with the jambs =)

About handling: Driving this device in the city is simply a fairy tale (although there is practically nothing to compare it with). The small dimensions of the motorcycle give it maneuverability in city traffic jams and confidence at traffic lights. The bike steers almost by the power of thought, turns willingly, but (does everyone understand that this is not a sports motorcycle?) not deeply, however, this is enough for confidently taking gentle and moderately sharp turns. The speedometer scale is marked up to 120 km/h, which the motorcycle initially gave, but then time and roads lowered the maximum speed to somewhere around 115 km. But it’s most pleasant to move at a speed of 90 kilometers, the engine does not scream like a victim, and the air flow is not so strong as to cause inconvenience. Brakes: (Disc/drum) are quite light and informative, the front brake is so transparent that it is almost impossible to block the wheel, but you can slow it down with the effort of 2 fingers. The rear brake is less informative and effective, which in my opinion is not surprising. Yes, and I used it extremely rarely, leaning mainly on the front and only if necessary, applying the brakes with the rear.

About the build quality: There are no complaints, everything fits smoothly and beautifully, no play in the plastic. No extraneous squeaks or knocks while driving in different modes and at different speeds. I was pleasantly surprised that when fully loaded (passenger, top case, and side bags) the motorcycle behaves almost the same as with one rider. But even here there is a spoonful of feces: The original headlight is rather weak or am I finding fault with the technology?

Comfort: When driving around the city there are no complaints, but it is not a fountain during long trips on intercity highways. The tank capacity is 12 liters + some reserve is pretty good, 350 km and the tank is not empty yet. During the time I owned it, I never let it dry out, and I never took it for a ride on reserve.

Conclusions: A good and budget motorcycle for a beginner, unpretentious, easy and cheap to maintain, forgives a lot of mistakes of the Motorcyclist. There are no problems with spare parts either (in Almaty for sure). It performs its functions as a city motorcycle at 5+. If you are patient and not picky, you can make a short trip on it, but the fifth point will not be very grateful to you. I think that's all. If you have any questions, ask me, I will answer with pleasure.

It was stolen from a garage on June 13, 2013; at that time the odometer showed 23,500 km. By this time, the clutch is starting to ask for replacement and... That's it. He was found three weeks later, now he is beaten by car thieves without a license plate and is awaiting trial...
