Honda CBR500R (2013-2015)Honda CBR500R (2016-2021)Honda CBR500R (2022+)

Model of the budget sports motorcycle Honda CBR500R

appeared in 2013 in parallel with two other models built on a single base - Honda CB500F and Honda CB500X. All three models have a common platform, including the engine, and differ only in design, ergonomics and suspension settings. In all other respects, these are almost identical motorcycles.

The appearance of the Honda CBR 500R model was due to Honda's desire to offer the market a budget model with a sporty appearance, ideal for novice drivers with license category A2 (according to the European classification). Well, for those who prefer other classes of motorcycles, you can choose another one - for example, in the “naked” style (CB500F) or the currently popular “tourist enduro” (CB500X).

The basis of the Honda CBR500R was an in-line 2-cylinder liquid-cooled engine with a volume of 471 cm³, producing up to 48 hp. power and 43 Nm of torque. This motor remains unchanged for the entire new CB500 model line. A retuned version of this engine powers the Honda Rebel 500.

The features of the Honda CBR500R include a steel frame, disc brakes (there are versions with ABS), simple suspension in the form of a conventional telescopic fork at the front and a monoshock absorber at the rear, an injection power system, a 6-speed gearbox and up to 195 kg of curb weight.

In 2016, the Honda CBR500R model was restyled, receiving an updated appearance and several technical changes: the fuel tank increased from 15.7 to 16.7 liters, the front fork received preload adjustment, the rear shock absorber slightly changed its characteristics, and adjustment of the brake and clutch levers appeared , the motorcycle was now equipped with LED optics.

In September 2022, Honda introduced the new generation CBR500R. The motorcycle received lightweight wheels and a pendulum (total weight decreased by 3 kg), an inverted Showa SFF-BP fork, a double-disc brake system with radial 4-piston calipers, new control unit settings, a color LCD instrument panel, and increased fuel capacity to 17.1 liters. tank and new paint.

Currently, the Honda CBR500R model is produced in Thailand and sold in many countries around the world - in European, Asian, American and other markets.

The domestic Japanese modification of the model is the Honda CBR400R.

Greetings Bikepost Today I finally tasted in full what the new CBR500R / CB500X line is. The price for a motorcycle in Thailand is from 200 to 220 kilobats. If you are interested, then welcome to cat.

On a beautiful Thai morning, I went to a neighboring town just to let off some steam. Still, the metropolis stinks, there are no Russian restaurants here, there are no Russian women in particular. Yes, and I’m still right, although they won’t condemn me or rip me off if something happens. My moped is just buzzing too loudly. Here this is not considered a particularly positive point, not that it’s bad form. Bad, yes, but the word is stupid. In general, to the point:

The motorcycle is a logical continuation of my CBR250R . Like big brother, of course I had my eye on it since its official release. Everyone wanted to touch it and wait until the price dropped. I won't buy this one. HONDA company , in the person of this motorcycle, gave a powerful slap in the face, and in the person of my motorcycle, in general, too, to the entire legendary CBR series. Guys, this is not a sport bike. 8500 and cut off!!! Phaaa!!! 500cc and 49 elk, two pots in a row. But the most offensive thing is 1 brake disc at the front! Well, why make the star laugh? In 6th gear I spun it up to the cut-off point. How could they choke the engine like that!!! Is this special for Asia or what? 187 mph and that’s it. And then he barely... picks up a hundred. In short, already in 3rd gear. Is this a 2013 motorcycle sport in the age of technology? Well, at least the price isn't too bad. If only we could come up with a new name for this series of vegetables. In general, it’s a city motorcycle, it’s good for completing a mileage run. at 300-400. Just with a backpack. Looks juicy, the sound in the stock is nothing. I think Yoshimura has already taken care of this misunderstanding. It will probably be possible to change the brains soon. By the way, he’s a great goat, well, you know those admiring glances from walking tourists.

Of course he looks attractive. ABS, information display, quite comfortable fit, no swelling at all. The suspension eats up bumps. Can cope with light off-road conditions and clay. Quite acceptable weight, plus if it doesn’t bother you in a motorcycle, you’ll think you’re on a rocket. An experienced one will say that the VESPA scooter is for minors. I don’t know how much it will cost in the CIS, but keep in mind that it doesn’t cost much at all. In principle, you can easily find all this on video portals. This pleasure cost me 1000 Thai baht per day. But I rode for a maximum of 4-5 hours. He ate up gasoline for 400 baht, when calculating the price of gasoline was about 38 baht per liter, a full tank cost 500. After leaving the federal highway, I did not let go of the throttle from the maximum mode at all, and we drove about 150-160 constantly for 25-30 minutes. I did about 230 km during this time. I sat in traffic jams and visited the expressway.

Actually, all my thoughts about this line. Thank you for your attention .

PS - The lady’s face is covered so she was just passing by and asked to take a photo =)))) There will be no separate post about her. By the way, I bought a new helmet:

It cost about 4000 baht.

Honda CBR500R sportbike, CB500F naked bike and CB500X touring bike

The three models in the series, the fully bonneted Honda CBR500R sportbike, the naked CB500F and the CB500X touring bike, are built on a common base and equipped with different cladding almost identically, which is why the updates affected all three at once.

The basic components - a 471cc inline-two in a tubular steel frame - remain unchanged from the last generation CB500. The engine, updated in 2022 and not requiring modifications for Euro 5, produces the same 47PS of peak power and 43Nm of thrust, but according to Honda, the 2022 models received new ECU settings that affect “feel and character” without changes to the performance figures.

The 35mm tubular steel frame remains the same, and it will be difficult to find design differences between the 2022 and 2022 versions, but the changes to the suspension are striking: all three variants of the Honda CB500 get inverted 41-gauge forks instead of the usual telescopic ones. And this fork - Showa Separate Function Fork Big Piston (SFF-BP), similar to those found on the older Honda CB650R and CBR650R models - is separate, in which the smoothing circuit is located in one chainstay, and the spring in the other, and despite the presence of adjustment Only spring preload, the fork will be a significant improvement on the updated models compared to the previous ones.

Honda CB500F

The rear suspension monoshock gets updated smoothing settings, but even more importantly, the 2022 CB500 series motorcycles get a new swingarm. It is made of thinner steel (2mm instead of 2.3mm), which reduces weight and slightly increases lateral flexibility, which improves handling, while torsional (torsional) flexibility, on the contrary, is reduced.

To coincide with the update of the fork, the designers decided to also refine the braking system: the front wheel of all three 2022 Honda CB500s finally received two brake discs instead of the single-disc circuit of previous versions. The CB500F and CBR500R now have 296mm discs instead of a single 320mm, and are fitted with Nissin radial two-piston calipers instead of conventionally mounted calipers. The CB500X gets a similar pair of 296mm discs to replace the 310mm discs from previous years, but the Nissin twin-piston calipers are fitted in the usual manner. However, there are now more calipers and discs, so the performance and information content of the CB500X braking system will increase significantly.

Two front brakes mean that the rims on the updated models are new. The CB500F and CBR500R ride on 17-inch wheels front and rear, and both wheels are lighter than the previous version. As for the Honda CB500X, this model received a new, lighter 19th front wheel. In addition, all three models received new lightweight radiators.

Honda CB500X

On the Honda CB500F, lighter wheels, swingarm and radiator, coupled with new footpegs (lighter due to the absence of rubber bands) compensate for the additional weight of the inverted fork and two disc brakes at the front, thanks to which the motorcycle's weight remains at 189 kg. At the same time, the weight distribution has improved, now more weight falls on the front contact patch, and the overall weight distribution is almost equal to 50:50 (49.7% of the weight falls on the front and 50.3% on the rear, while the previous model had 46.8%, respectively: 53.2%).

Similarly with the Honda CBR500R and its new components: the weight remains at 192 kg, and at the same time 50.7% of it falls on the front contact patch, and 49.3% on the rear (previously it was 50.1% / 49.9%) .

The additional disc brake and new fork of the Honda CB500X led to an increase in the total weight of the motorcycle by 2 kg - from 197 to 199 kg in curb condition, and weight distribution again improved, although less significantly: from 48% / 52% to 48.7% / 51 .3%.

The CRF300 RALLY is a lightweight, compact and very maneuverable motorcycle, adapted for movement both in rough terrain and in dense city traffic. In addition to a larger, more powerful engine with a maximum output of 20.1 kW, the updated version features a number of other significant changes, including a revised frame, increased suspension travel, ground clearance and fuel tank capacity. In addition, the motorcycle received rubber inserts on the pegs

, and
the transmission's sixth gear is longer
for a more relaxed cruising speed.
The updates also affected the steering and LCD display. The motorcycle's curb weight has been reduced by 4 kg to 153 kg

as standard , and
a dual-clutch transmission
is available as an option.

Other Features

It is not easy to distinguish the updated versions at first glance, but the forks and brakes easily give them away. There are, however, other features: all three models received a new front fender, on the CB500F and CBR500R it is borrowed from the CB650R and CBR650R, and on the CB500X a new wing is installed on the inverted fork, with an angular design reminiscent of the Africa Twin. And a little higher, all three CB500s boast improved, brighter LED lighting technology, which on the CBR500R costs exactly the same as on the CBR650R.

As usual, new versions are marked by updated graphics and colors, with the CB500F receiving the widest range of updates. The 2022 model will be available in three new colors: Matt Axis Gray Metallic, Pearl Smokey Gray and Pearl Dusk Yellow, while retaining the old Grand Prix Red with updated tank decals. The only new color for the CBR500R is Matt Gunpowder Black Metallic, joining the former Grand Prix Red, also with new decals. The CB500X will be available in both the familiar Grand Prix Red and Matt Gunpowder Black Metallic, as well as the new Pearl Organic Green.

Of course, new suspensions and braking systems will lead to higher prices for the updated models. However, the size of the difference is still unknown, but there is no doubt that the 2022 versions will be better than their predecessors.
