ATV Baltmotors Jumbo 700 Max Standard (EFI injector)

As the name suggests, the quad has a 700 cc engine. The power unit contains Japanese components: pistons with rings, bearings, carburetor, clutch, variator belt. In practice, the engine makes a pleasant impression: it starts from half a turn in any thermal state, reacts sensitively to gas, purrs pleasantly at minimum idle speed, and does not vibrate. Since there is no newfangled, not to say superfluous, but not strictly necessary, injector in the power system, when starting for the first time after a long stay, you need to close the carburetor air damper. Once warmed up, you can drown it.

A utilitarian ATV is not for racing, in my opinion, but the behavior of the car at speed can say a lot. Therefore, I started the test drive with a dynamic grip along forest and field paths. In the capital region it is now slushy, dank, under the wheels there is unfrozen mud mixed with melting uncertain snow, and here, near the Baltic, it is the busiest time for quads. The engine pleases with excellent throttle response; on a short straight I can easily reach 80 km/h. Later on the highway it is possible to exceed this figure by another 10 km/h. I think this is more than enough for a “utility”. You can feel the fact that you have almost fifty horsepower under you. But high power is good if it can be harnessed when necessary. There are no complaints about the handling: I can easily make turns, controlling the skidding of the rear axle, correcting the trajectory in time so as not to fly into a tree, and in a critical situation I brake. Bumps do not interfere with all this, which means the suspension works adequately.

Anticipating the “pampas”

Having received the first portion of adrenaline, anticipating the next one, no longer from the speed, but from the off-road capabilities of the car, I stop for a comprehensive inspection of the horse. The appearance corresponds to the purpose, the ATU class, but at the same time hints at the reckless, slightly sporty character of the quadric. The ATV looks lean. This impression is due to the wings raised high above the wheels. Ahead are elegant headlights, under which, already in the plastic of the lower cladding, the direction indicators are located. At the rear there are no less elaborate lights, including side lights, brake lights and side collars. They reminded me a little of Polaris optics. Probably, trophists and fans of mud mixing simply won’t notice all this beauty; on the very first trip they will crush it with a crunch in the excitement of a fight somewhere in the forest, but you shouldn’t rely on them when creating equipment for the mass consumer. It must have an attractive appearance, and this cannot be taken away from the Baltmotors SMC JUMBO 700 - I doubt that anyone can seriously challenge this fact. Small boxes for small items will be appreciated by everyone: on a quad, there is often absolutely nowhere to stash a spare pair of gloves, a bottle of water, you never know. Here we will find two drawers with lids in the front fenders and one, larger, behind the seat. True, the front “glove compartments” seemed to me not to be sealed very well: better gaskets should be installed under the covers. If you drown thoroughly in a swamp, then, I think, water will penetrate into the rear box (which, by the way, is locked with a key). These points should be taken into account during operation, or you need to carry out simple tuning by modifying the seals.

Wet gloves are nothing compared to a flooded engine, so if your destiny is to overcome serious water obstacles, then it is advisable to move the air intake of the air filter box from under the seat somewhere higher. However, tuning a car for a trophy is a normal and understandable practice for everyone.

The information display is familiar to us: exactly the same one is installed on the Lynx quadrics, which we met a little earlier. The thing is quite convenient, combining both the functions of the dashboard itself and the on-board computer. The latter regularly provides us with statistical reports: the maximum recorded speed in a certain area, the average speed, ambient and coolant temperature, travel time, on-board network voltage and a lot of other useful information. Two large keys, which can be easily pressed with gloves, allow you to display the parameters that interest you at the moment. On a cloudy day, the screen with a soft blue backlight is clearly visible, and what’s more important is that it is just as readable in bright sunlight.

However, I got carried away with inspecting the car, it’s time to go to the “pampas” that are in the area, but allow me just one more touch before getting back into the saddle. This is the first quadric that has a normal place for a license plate. You will say that no one needs it; in our country, single users have the rights of a tractor driver. Of course, in a deep forest, in the middle of a swamp, you are unlikely to run into an inspector from Gostekhnadzor; the poster behind may make it difficult to move, but if this huge license plate is required by law, then please provide a place for it, and whether to hang it up or not is up to the owner to decide.

Baltmotors Jumbo 700 Standart / 700 LUX / 700 MAX LUX First place among Asian ATVs

We have all been familiar with Baltmotors equipment for a long time, fortunately it has been sold in the north-west of Russia for a long time. If you have had the chance to drive this vehicle and its “classmates” from other manufacturers, then it is no secret to you that BM has always been slightly inferior in 1-2 parameters.

This was before the appearance of the Jumbo 700 in the line. The first thing that catches your eye is the quality of the finishing materials. The Baltmotors Jumbo plastic is identical to what Yamaha uses. But this is only the first nice feature of the new ATVs.

Let's understand further. The new Jumbo is available in three trim levels, let's look at the features of each of them: Jumbo 700 Standart . As usual, Asian ATVs in the Standard or Basic configuration are produced on stamped steel wheels, in this case with 26*12 tires. Disc brakes, 3000 LBS winch - everything is as expected. The main components (engine, transmission, suspension) are identical to the Jumbo 700 LUX. Dry weight of the ATV is 320 kg.

The cost of an ATV from a dealer is 250,000 rubles. Jumbo 700 LUX . This equipment will delight its owner with alloy wheels with excellent MAXXIS BIGHORN 26*14 tires. Dry weight of the ATV is 320 kg.

The cost of an ATV from a dealer is 280,000 rubles. Jumbo 700 Max LUX . Long double Jumbo with a comfortable two-level seat and backrest for the passenger. Max LUX is 22 cm longer than Standard and LUX and 20 kg heavier. Alloy wheels with MAXXIS BIGHORN 26*14, winch and glove compartments with a key (the latter is also available on LUX and Standart).

The cost of the ATV from the dealer is 299,000 rubles.

We tested JUMBO in two configurations: Jumbo LUX and Lumbo Max LUX. The realization that this is the best price/quality offer among Asian ATVs did not take long to arrive.

The first thing you need to understand about BaltMotors ATVs is that they are made in Taiwan, not made in China. Specialists from Taiwan have a completely different approach to their work: no blind copying or simplification of design - only thoughtful decisions.

Let's get back to the theory: Japanese Mikuni carburetors, Japanese KOYO bearings, FUJI clutch and MITSUBISHI variator belt are also Japanese components. The problem of “hard” transmissions of non-Japanese Asians has been fundamentally solved! Yes, due to the original Japanese components, Jumbo became a little more expensive than it could have been with Taiwanese components. But it's worth it.

Again, an extended warranty for BaltMotors ATVs; ATVs are assembled at a Russian plant in Kaliningrad, where international ISO quality standards have been in effect since the opening.

All of the above performed well during the ATV test. The transmission works clearly, the least weight of the ATV among its “classmates” and the most powerful engine among them also have a beneficial effect on the cross-country ability of the ATV.

The big problem of competitors is the lack of moisture protection of electrical and optics. She's not here.

To sum it up, Jumbo, if not a market sensation, is definitely a strong blow to the pride of its competitors. The shortcomings of both BaltMotors and competitors were taken into account. Because Jumbo is simply better than its opponents in many respects: lighter, more powerful, more reliable, more torquey and, finally, more comfortable.

How to describe the “short” (short wheelbase) Standard and LUX in a nutshell? “For those who like it hot” are the most accurate words.

The long Max LUX is more of a comfortable off-road limousine. The extended wheelbase makes the Jumbo LUX a vehicle for slightly different purposes. “A comfortable flagship of the Baltmotors line for long walks together. But it can also take you into a swamp up to your neck, and then take it out,” that’s how the test participants dubbed it.

Jumbo is a really interesting, well-designed device. It is not surprising that the demand for it from dealers is always stable.

We are waiting for you for a test drive!

Sandbox games

As I had hoped, the off-road capabilities of the Baltmotors SMC JUMBO 700 did not disappoint me. Using the button on the right, I activate the 4x4 mode; in a critical situation (which happens extremely rarely), you can move the flag responsible for locking the front differential to the upper position. The foolproof feature is that when the button is pressed (mode 2 TO), you cannot move the flag up. Of course, with the transmission in the 4x4 position, the steering wheel is filled with lead weight, it is possible to maneuver, but with great difficulty, therefore, after checking the functionality of the system, I quickly turned off the lock, not seeing any particular need for it. 26-inch tires cope with most surfaces and allow you to effectively use the significant torque developed by the power unit. And at the same time, returning to the dynamic properties of the car, I did not notice that the large diameter of the wheels (25-inch wheels are more common on production cars) had a negative effect on the acceleration of the quad. I had a lot of time climbing the embankments of the sand quarry, and at first I got a little scared, realizing that, having slid down the steep slope, I couldn’t get back up it: it was too steep, the wheels, acting like earth-moving cutters, planted the quadric on its belly. But a gentler exit was found; gave up the second or third time under my passion and pressure of the 5MS engine. Then I went down and up ten times, each time faster and higher, throwing the wet sand with its wheels towards the heavens - feeling that the car would not let me down, it would pull me out. Then it was time for water treatments and more.

The two-seater Jumbo 700 MAX retains all the advantages of the short-wheelbase Jumbo 700, while the extended wheelbase (192 mm longer) turns the Jumbo into a comfortable “cruiser” with the longest seat in the class (90 cm).
The Jumbo 700 MAX has a body that is proportionally increased in width, length and height, which provides the ATV with excellent balance, increased stability and good handling. Due to the enlarged base, the Jumbo 700 MAX perfectly absorbs road unevenness and has excellent directional stability. It is convenient and safe to storm steep descents and ascents.

In the long version, the passenger is allocated a separate seat with a backrest and “graspy” side handles. The two-level seat design provides the passenger with excellent visibility, as he sits slightly higher than the driver and can enjoy the surrounding scenery without interference. For the convenience of a high seating position, wide footrests are provided for the passenger, providing leg support. Thus, two people can fit as comfortably as possible on one ATV and do not interfere with each other at all. Jumbo MAX looks incredibly spacious, stylish and impressive.

Camouflage (Camo Vista) - paid additionally 15,000 rubles.

One of the tangible results of the sporting successes of the Baltmotors Team pilot crew was the emergence of a tuning studio for upgrading the Jumbo 700 line of ATVs.

If you want to turn your Jumbo into a fighting machine for exploits or immediately purchase equipment “charged with sports,” you can order a specialized version of the Trophy or Trophy R. With such an ATV you can go straight to competitions and into the most difficult off-road conditions.

The Trophy version includes the following special “extreme” modification:

Exiting snorkels to the front trunk: one for the engine air intake and two (input-output) for the variator air intake

Strengthening the waterproofing of wiring (treatment with water-repellent lubricant)

Additional sealing of the carburetor (treatment of cable joints with heat-shrink casing, treatment of removable parts with sealant, ventilation outlet under the hood, sealing of the drain hose)

Installing a tuned spark plug tip

The Trophy R version, in addition to the above improvements, includes:

Additional protection for the cooling radiator and its output to the front trunk

It is possible to modify any model of Baltmotors ATVs with a volume of 700 cc.

The cost of modification is - TROPHY: +15,000 rubles, TROPHY R: +30,000 rubles.
