Motorcycle Harley Davidson FXDWG Dyna Wide Glide 2013 review

Description of the Harley Davidson FXDWG Dyna Wide Glide 2013 motorcycle is in the queue for publication of the article. Announcement: Today, for almost every new motorcycle that comes into being, marketers strive to carve out their own niche. This one is a road sport, this one is a recreational enduro. But what class should we include a motorcycle that has a little bit of everything? A good bike should have a reliable engine, comfortable ergonomics and simple controls...

Harley Davidson FXDWG Dyna Wide Glide is a motorcycle sold occasionally in Russia. Despite the fact that good models of motorcycles have a very respectable price, and the season for their use is relatively short, the motorcycle market is developing rapidly. And if you believe the words of dealers, then some models of recently released motorcycles are selling like hot cakes at the beginning of the season, and the models brought to Russia are clearly not enough to fully satisfy consumer demand.

A motorcycle has long ceased to be an alternative to a car, and the times when this equipment was bought only because there was not enough money for a full-fledged car are forgotten. Nowadays, two-wheelers can be called technological marvels in many cases, and their cost can be compared with that of prestigious cars.

Many people have started buying motorcycles for hobby purposes as riding or even collecting them has become a good pastime for many people. Many motorcycles, for example the Harley Davidson FXDWG Dyna Wide Glide, whose technical characteristics make it possible to call the model a prestigious brand, are in demand among both beginners and experienced motorcyclists.

Motorcycles with an engine capacity of 1584 cc. see, appeared as a result of long work of inventors who sought to create a model that was not inferior in characteristics to other versions of the motorcycle. In some cases, these models are not only not inferior, but also ahead of other motorcycles, as they have minimal fuel consumption and other excellent parameters.

Motorcycles with an engine capacity of more than 400 kb. cm, which includes the Harley Davidson FXDWG Dyna Wide Glide - this category of motorcycles simply cannot claim the title of “motorcycle for a beginner.” On the contrary, this is already a serious technique that requires certain control of motorcycle equipment with a smaller engine capacity. Yes, she attracts more attention, she is the most beautiful, fast, interesting and there is a huge selection of models. But as power increases, the weight of the motorcycle inevitably increases. In this class you are unlikely to find motorcycles lighter than 180 kg, unless they are the latest motorcycle models.

Go to the entire range of Harley Davidson motorcycles, on this page you can find Harley Davidson FXDWG Dyna Wide Glide motorcycles from other years of production and information about them

Harley-Davidson Dyna Low Rider Engine

In motion, the Harley Davidson Love Rider is powered by a 2-cylinder V-shaped engine, the volume of which is almost 1.7 liters, air-cooled. Engine vibrations are kept to a minimum thanks to rubber “pillows”, with the help of which the engine is attached to the motorcycle frame. The motorcycle engine has an almost even power cycle in all speed ranges.

Maximum torque at 3500 rpm, 126 N/m. The engine is 4-stroke, eight-valve, with electric. structure of sequential fuel injection. The maximum speed of the bike is a little over 200 km/h. The gearbox works just fine.

Also in the Harley-Davidson Dyna Low Rider motorcycle, the designers have improved the suspension - the shock absorbers at the rear now have a different design, they are soft and practical. The fork travel at the front is 130 millimeters – a good indicator. In conclusion, we can say that the bike’s suspension is designed simply beautifully.

The braking system of the Harley Davidson Love Rider is quite remarkable. The motorcycle has 2 30 cm floating disc brakes on the front wheel and a 29.2 cm disc on the rear wheel. In addition, the functional equipment includes ABS. The front brakes are 2 floating discs with four piston calipers, the rear brakes are 1 disc with two piston floating calipers.

>>Imagine a dreamy young man who is completely dedicated to getting a decent education. Imagine how, on one of his rare days off, he stands in front of the Harley-Davidson showroom window in the distant 1980s and admires the FSX Low Rider with bated breath. Brilliant, brutal and modern - by the standards of the time, of course... Yes, this motorcycle could take him far away from the gray and monotonous everyday life! Time will pass, the young man will turn into a successful young specialist, quickly running from and to work, and sometimes, in unison with his heart, the dream of adolescence will rush past with a roar, making him freeze, as before. And the young man will definitely sigh and go on about his business. Earn Money…

I wonder what has become of this determined young man today? I'm sure he was able to earn his way. Most likely, he managed to try himself in family life - perhaps even successfully. Raised children and educated them. No less decent than his own. I crossed the line of midlife crisis and finally realized – it’s time to start living for real! Fortunately, there is always an opportunity to fulfill secret desires.

Hello youth First of all, it was for such a client, I think, that the Dyna Low Rider model, which had not been produced since 2009, was “reanimated”. It is not for nothing that the main emphasis at the presentation of the motorcycle in 2014 was on the heritage preserved for more than 30 years. It should be noted that the manufacturer is not lying: many design elements make the modern Low Rider very similar to that motorcycle from the display case, so firmly entrenched in the memory of our hero. Roughly speaking, if you do not pay attention to the natural accommodation to the realities of the 21st century, you may not be able to distinguish the modern model from the FSX Low Rider produced in 1977 (the year the model began production)! The manufacturer tried (and he undoubtedly succeeded) to preserve and give the buyer the surroundings of a “dream” as carefully as possible: a specific visor installed above the headlight, capable of accommodating light luggage, and the design of an almost 18-liter fuel tank equipped with two necks and the necessary set of instruments, and an abundance of chrome in the trim of the motorcycle... For particularly picky “realists”, there is the possibility of optionally installing 5-spoke alloy wheels a la Hot Rod.

Almost identical, but at the same time maximally informative instruments located on the fuel tank are a tribute to the past. The base seat is undivided - you won’t be able to turn the Low Rider into an “egoist” without buying a new one.

By the way, I personally had complete confusion with the name and contents of the motorcycle. I don’t know if anyone overseas was able to discern in the Low Rider model a bright representative of the Lowrider family (I apologize for the tautology), but I, who have the most ordinary sense of beauty and quite generally accepted views on art, failed to do so. Either I am completely far from that rebellious spirit of the times, or the image of a gangster dragster scraping the asphalt with his “belly” in the permanently produced model of an American motorcycle is quite frankly far-fetched. And the circle of people who own equipment in this style is traditionally narrow - either fans or bandits of not the lowest rank (one does not interfere with the other, by the way). In our case, apart from wheels and an abundance of chrome, the model has nothing associated with its name, and the name itself is purely a marketing ploy. I'm sure schoolchildren in the 1980s were very impressed by the image of true banditos.

The 1690 cc V-twin, which already produces an impressive 126 Nm of torque at 3500 rpm, effortlessly copes with the childish (by the standards of the class, of course...) weight of the motorcycle. Like all Harley-Davidson motorcycles, the Low Rider model is generally simple and in some places a rather crudely assembled device, truly iron and masculine in every detail.

Comfort for the masses! In addition, even a shallow analysis shows that the Harley-Davidson Dyna Low Rider is designed for incredible mass production, and the range of its buyers must be one of the widest in the entire family of Harley-Davidson motorcycles. While working on the remake, the engineers set themselves the goal of creating an equally comfortable motorcycle for people with completely different builds and heights. To do this, in the “pegs/handlebar/seat” triangle, two of the three elements were made customizable. The seat can be adjusted not only in height, but also in depth - using a removable cushion, which is attached with just a couple of screws. Installation or dismantling of the “soft part” takes a matter of minutes - thus, the Low Rider can easily become a “family” motorcycle and, by analogy with a family car, can ride not only the well-built, tall head of the family, but also his short, sophisticated passion.

Over the past two years, the Milwaukee-based company has significantly improved the performance of the braking system on all Harley-Davidson motorcycles. In addition to this, ABS is now fitted as standard. Unlike the Softail series motorcycles, the Dyna has not one, but two shock absorbers at the rear, equipped with simple spring preload adjustment.

The steering wheel is also adjustable in two planes. But the footpegs are static, albeit slightly modified - for the convenience of riders of different constitutions, they, in comparison with similar parts of other models in the Dyna line, are moved 50 mm forward. Such non-trivial research made it possible to seriously improve the ergonomics of the driver's seat. And the incredibly comfortable position has a direct proportional effect on the convenience (read quality) of control - on the road the Low Rider is as obedient as an only child on New Year's Eve.

On the road again... The impressive ground clearance, completely alien to the Lowrider style, coupled with a low center of gravity allows the “classic” to take sharp turns almost “at the knees”. At the same time, the process is not accompanied by the terrible grinding of excessively protruding elements - there are none on the Low Rider. And the rubber-coated running boards touch the asphalt even too quietly - you may not notice and “overplay” with an inclination. Probably, the manufacturer considered that no one would drive in such serious corners, and did not install limiters on them. I don’t know about others - I couldn’t resist and erased a few millimeters of expensive “consumables”. And tell me, how can we not try the limits of a motorcycle if the chassis, modified in 2014, allows us to do this 100%? When maneuvering at maximum speeds, there is not the slightest hint of excessive softness of the structure, and the “twisting” effect - a disease of the chassis of most vehicles of this class - is completely absent! At the front there is a fork with a powerful diameter of feathers - as much as 49 mm, and the rear pendulum works in tandem with two shock absorbers. Even on a heavily damaged surface, no suspension breakdowns were noticed.

Due to its modest weight (the motorcycle weighs only 302 kg, which is really not much for a Harley-Davidson brand vehicle!) and, I repeat, the extremely low center of gravity, the Dyna Low Rider is easy to control at low speeds - it’s a pleasure to draw delicate patterns in traffic jams on it. Also, the light weight of the model has a positive effect on both dynamic performance and efficiency. For a huge twin, the last characteristic, believe me, is very important. If you go “with all your money”, not the smallest fuel tank is enough for less than 150 km. But, as you know, if it goes somewhere, it must arrive somewhere: compared to the 2009 model, engine power has increased. As does its volume, because now the Harley-Davidson Dyna Low Rider is equipped with a large 1690 cc air-cooled V-twin. Like all power plants named Twin Cam 103, the engine of this model does not have an impressive “horsepower” - only 67 forces, and they are available at 5,750 rpm. However, in return, it offers unrivaled torque - 126 Nm at 3,500 rpm! And the engine sounds good.

Despite the 2-into-1 exhaust system, the sound of the peculiar rhythm of the Harley-Davidson V-twin is heard very clearly - although not overwhelmingly loud. This compromise will allow the rider to travel around quiet areas without the danger of getting a sniper “shot” with a rotten egg from the window of an angry resident. And in general, the Low Rider element is a city that changes its outfits from a bright neon dress to a cozy green sweater of city parks. /

Advantages and disadvantages

Advantages

  • Equipment. It, of course, greatly depends on the configuration and on the generation, but this motorcycle has everything you need. And what is not needed, too.
  • Thoughtfulness down to the smallest detail. To the point that the lids of the cases, when opened, remain exactly in the position in which they are securely fixed in place and do not interfere with the owner.
  • Abundance of tuning. No matter how old your Harley Davidson Electra Glide is, two or thirty, you will always find not only original spare parts for it, but generally everything you want. There are more available tuning options for the Harley Davidson Electro Glide than for all Japanese motorcycles combined.
  • Huge power reserve. On modern injection models, it easily exceeds 400 kilometers on one tank.

Flaws

  • Dimensions. It was created for the highway, for highways, and not for city traffic jams. It is better to make your way between cars on it slowly and carefully.
  • Inch bolts, nuts and hexagons instead of the usual metric ones. If they are lost, finding a replacement will not be easy. In addition, for self-service and repair you will need an inch tool. However, this does not apply to modern European versions of the Harley Davidson Electra Glide, or almost does not apply - most of their bolts are metric.
  • Maintenance cost. In general, both tuning and spare parts for the Electra Glide cost moderate money, but repairing or servicing at an official dealer will be very expensive.
  • Huge weight. This parameter also depends on the specific modification, but any Harley Davidson Electric Glide weighs a lot, about 400 kg, give or take.

Harley-Davidson

The life and death of Harley Dyna.

Harley-Davidson quietly killed the popular Dyna line in 2022 without any official warning, simply transferring all Dyna titles to the Softail platform. But the powerful Dyna with Big Twins on rubber mounts, two classic rear shock absorbers, has a huge army of young and not so fans, so we will remember the popular model in this motorcycle history. Dyna, occupying the place of the “middle son” in the Harley line, has never been in the rays of glory throughout the entire 27-year history of the release. Dynas were on the bottom rung of Harley-Davidsons with Big Twins, so all the attention (both from the company and from its fans) went to Harley’s top models: Tourings or their less expensive brothers, imitating the “cracker” Softails.

Larger than the compact Sportster and entry-level Street, but smaller and leaner than the more complex Softail or ultra-luxury Touring, the Dynas fell squarely in the middle, never really being the “best” of what Harley had to offer. But Dyna's position in the middle of the line actually made her something special for both the Motor Company and the riders; Dyna could be anything you wanted her to be. Dynas, featuring a rubber-mounted frame with engines without balancer shafts, and two external rear shock absorbers, became known as rider Harleys because the Dyna was a well-handling Big Twin Harley, unlike the squishy Softails and big, heavy luxury Tourings.

The quintessence of the motorcycle is Dyna Street Bob, stripped, bobber, with a rubber-mounted Big Twin, two coil rear shock absorbers, and footpegs. Dyna was the perfect bike with a powerful Big Twin and truly limitless customization options.

The rubber-mounted motor gives us a true Harley feel, while the smaller frame and lighter weight allow us to tear through windy roads. Daina, perhaps a reasonable compromise between appearance and technical characteristics compared to top-end Tourings, with Bigwin, lightweight, less expensive, with a smaller set of unnecessary features, was positioned as ideal for making changes, adding accessories and driving fast. And so it was. The essentially customizable platform has seen many variations over the years. And it became many things for different people, everything from the chopper Wide Glide, to the stripped-down Street Bob, to the Switchback, a unique dual-purpose tourer cruiser. Most of the Daina variations from the factory simply came with replaced fronts on the Daina frame [not entirely true, because the Wide Glide has a different angle of the steering column] The Wide Glide had a long Softail fork, and the Switchback had a meaty Touring fork. Depending on what kind of appearance they wanted to get on Daina, various front forks were installed, standard and inverted, thick or long.

The Dyna Wide Glide, with a long, wide-set front fork and large front wheel, was introduced in the second year of Dyna's production, and became one of Dyna's most popular models. The model in the picture is from 2014. And even before the aftermarket got its hands on the versatile Daina, who was taken in yet another completely new direction. Daina was affordable, easy to work with, highly customizable and also had the highest potential of the entire Harley line. This made it not only a favorite among Harley riders who wanted to make their bikes faster, but it has recently become the choice of some stunt teams. Stunters performed absolutely impossible stunts on motorcycles, playing with top-of-the-line suspensions and brakes to control the heavy bike as best as Dyna's strong frame could handle. In recent years, motorcycle stunts have become a very popular sport. Despite the fact that Harleys do not have precise handling, stunt teams have performed incredible stunts on them - mostly on modified Dynas, whose powerful engines, short front forks and low front fork angles make the impossible possible.

While Dayna has had a very limited fan base throughout her nearly 30-year history, the TV series Children of Anarchy, in which she played a key role, has skyrocketed her popularity in recent years. Black Dynas were the choice of most club members in the series and main character Jax Teller rode a 2003 Dyna Super Glide.

English actor Charlie Hunnam as Jax Teller in the Children of Anarchy series on the 2003 Dyna Super Glide, along with other gang members who also rode Dynas. This helped Daina's popularity skyrocket among young users. The series not only brought popularity to Dyna (and all other Harleys in general), but also introduced the world to a new, unique, menacing look for West Coast club motorcycles. Known as the "club style" (or "owtlaw" style), the look focused largely around custom Dynas that were painted black, with high rear suspension, stick steering and headlight fairings. Thanks to the popularity of the series, club style began to spread throughout the world.

The Harley customization movement sparked Dyne's popularity, especially among young people. In many places (mainly in California) you can meet a Harley rider in his 20s, 30s, it's almost guaranteed to be Dayna. Harley-Davidson had trouble attracting younger users.

The new softail frame is said to be lighter, stiffer, and significantly better handling. But by killing Dayna, the only popular model among young riders, the Motor Company most likely hurt itself in the highly competitive motorcycle industry for the commitment of young riders. It is not yet known whether Softail will be a worthy replacement, perhaps on paper the Softail frame is better, but are Daina’s followers ready to exchange a rubber-mounted engine, two rear shock absorbers and easy customization for Softail. Despite this, Dyna retains its popularity, bolstered by a vibrant customization scene, a bountiful aftermarket, and a rugged, stripped-down simplicity that is, ironically, a form of rebellion against the traditional chrome-plated Harley aesthetic. After 26 years of production, Dyna has come to an end, but the "real rider's Harley" will most likely continue to be supported for many years to come.

Brief history of Daina

1991 : The first Dyna was introduced as a special edition model called the FXDB Sturgis to commemorate the popular annual rally in South Dakota.
What made Dyna's new frame special was that it was significantly stiffer than its predecessor, making it well suited to the new Evolution engine that was being introduced at the same time. Dyna Daytona and Super Glide were introduced a year later. First Dyna, FXDB Sturgis Edition

1993 : The Low Rider and Wide Glide models are introduced, the most popular models throughout its 26-year history. 1995 : Previously, all Dynas had a 32-degree front fork rake, but in 1995 a 28-degree fork was introduced on sportier models. 1999 : The Evolution engine is replaced with an 88 cubic inch Twin Cam engine. 2006 : The Twin Cam engine gets a 96 cubic inch displacement and a 6 speed transmission.

Dayna Super Glide 2006

2008: Introducing the Dyna Fat Bob "oil bike" with a 2-into-1-into-2 exhaust, dual headlights, and a fat 130mm front tire. The series “Children of Anarchy” was also released, the main characters there were Dynas, made in club style.

Dyna Super Glide 2006 The Children of Anarchy series, which began in 2008, began to popularize Harleys in general, but also raised Dyna to the peak of their popularity.

Dyna Fat Bob has become Dyna's other most popular Harley model. Shown here is the 2022 model.

2012 : The Daina Switchback is introduced, a very rare Harley, the first touring Daina with platform running boards and hard panniers. Harley-Davidson also offered the 103 engine in the Dyna frame as an option for the first time. Switchback, the first touring Dyna from the factory

2017 : Harley-Davidson unceremoniously announces the end of production of the Dyna model and the transfer of some Dyna names to the Softail platform 2022 The Dyna line was finally discontinued in 2022 - but in the last year of production the top of the Dyna line was released - the Dyna Low Rider S

Test drive Harley-DavidsonFXDWG Dyna Wide Glide

Opinion: Vladislav Sofonov

(Height: 180 cm, weight: 75 kg)

My acquaintance with the Harley-Davidson Dyna Wide Glide began with... the sound of an approaching motorcycle. Even without seeing the bike itself, one could say that it has a solid engine and that the attention of others will be focused on it when parading around the city. How could it be otherwise? After all, the characteristic sound of the Harley Twin Cam, combined with the rich sound of the Tommy Gun exhaust system, helps it stand out from the crowd even before the troublemaker himself appears in sight.

And here he is, a black chopper with a high (but moderately) steering wheel and an engine swaying in the frame at idle speed - a “feature” of almost all H.-D models. with evolution series motors. For this, some are free to love Harley, while others are free to criticize. But both of them, having driven it, will never forget the special sensations that simply have nothing to compare with. Having briefly examined it before the start, I couldn’t find anything to complain about. Even the wiring harnesses that go to the steering controls are discreetly hidden...in the steering wheel itself! All that was left outside were the gas and clutch cables and the brake hose.

While the engine, rocking on silent blocks, warmed up, I had time to inspect the tidy. As befits the style canons, a tachometer is not provided here. The central place is reserved for the round speedometer dial, next to which other necessary indicators are located. At first glance, it may seem that the gas tank has two filler necks. Although one of them, the left one, is an imitation. The fuel level indicator is conveniently located in its “lid”. But it looks so natural that, approaching the gas station, I was still thinking about which neck I should pour gasoline into... The real tank cap is located on the right and opens without a key, simply unscrewing and saving the driver from having to once again climb into it jacket pocket.

For those who have not yet understood why the key is in their pocket, let me remind you: this, like many other Harley-Davidson motorcycles, does not have an ignition switch as such. There is only an ignition toggle switch located on the tank, which can be locked with the same key. Also included as standard is an immobilizer and alarm system, which prevent the motorcycle from starting if the owner has gone somewhere with the key. When you try to move the motorcycle, the anti-theft system squeaks obnoxiously and flashes the turn signal lamps, falling silent 30 seconds after the “carcass” is left alone. If the “owner” with the immobilizer key fob in his pocket approaches Daina closer than one and a half meters, the system itself disarms the security and, after turning the switch, allows you to start the engine. What's in motion? The motorcycle is outrageously linearly stable at 130 km/h – the maximum legal speed for the Kyiv-Borispol highway. The driver still feels quite comfortable in this “American”. The headwind is not so strong that your hands come off the steering wheel. And the back remains almost unloaded. It seems that you can move at this pace for a long time, but... “Boryspilka” ends very quickly, and with it the smooth asphalt.

Although the front suspension has good energy capacity and a travel of 121 mm (with a 21-inch front wheel this is more than enough for smooth handling of uneven surfaces), our potholes cannot be compared with the American ones, and therefore the rear suspension travel of 79 mm is 79 mm for Ukrainian drivers will obviously not be enough. And if there is some kind of hole on the way of the Wide Glide, it is better to slow down in a timely manner. It’s no longer possible to stand up on the footpegs due to their typical chopper arrangement, but it’s still possible to dodge potholes - the handling allows it.

However, despite a couple of breakdowns in the rear suspension that occurred when driving through moderately deep holes, I never received a harsh blow to the “fifth point”. After all, at the rear, in addition to the shock absorbers themselves, the impact energy is also absorbed by a thick tire and a soft driver's seat.

But with the passenger seat, not everything is so smooth: it is too tiny, and therefore there can be no talk of any comfort on it during long-term movement. So, to take a “girl” for a ride around the city, from a cafe to a nightclub... The Sissy bar (a metal arch behind the saddle) is simple to the point of impossibility and, apparently, is designed to partially compensate the passenger for the shortcomings of his seat, providing the opportunity to hold on to it.

The fact that we first rushed out of the city does not mean at all that this motorcycle is not intended for riding in big cities. Quite the opposite. In its “pure form,” Wide Glide is intended for exactly this. After all, for tourism lovers, there are many other models in the Harley-Davidson model range that are better “tailored” for this purpose.

Our “experimental model”, having a solid weight of three centners, steers simply excellent in the city. And even in terms of such an indicator as traffic jams, it is at its best. The only thing that disappointed me a little about the Wide Glide was the slight turnout in the steering wheel. Because of it, some U-turns on a typical suburban two-lane road had to be made in three stages. And pushing three hundred plus kilograms is not a very pleasant experience.

But a pleasant discovery was that when driving on stretches, the engine does not get very hot, and its heat does not fry the inner surface of the thighs, as one might expect. Vibrations are not annoying either – their level is quite moderate. The impression is that they are needed simply so that the driver does not forget that he is driving a chopper! But when driving on the highway in sixth gear, you should maintain a speed of at least 100 km/h. With less, unpleasant jerks occur in the transmission, even if you keep the gas steady.

At the “lower levels” the engine is very flexible. But, if you keep the speed above average, the acceleration occurs very quickly. In the city, the most used are the first three gears, since even in the second you can accelerate faster than 100 km/h. The characteristic “grunt” of the box is not at all annoying. On the contrary, you can always clearly hear whether you switched or not. And the work of the clutch evokes only positive emotions. The force on the handle is moderate, and the grip range is extended just enough to give you a confident start even on a steep climb.

As with many other choppers, you have to be careful when turning sharply with the Wide Glide - it doesn't like to lean too much, as the low-mounted footpegs scrape the asphalt even at moderate angles. While studying the model, I more than once came across mention of insufficient power of the front brake. Therefore, I was pleasantly surprised that in our case it turned out to be quite adequate and capable of stopping it abruptly. The only pity is that the test bike is not equipped with ABS. Then you could ride it even more actively.

By the way, starting next year, Harley-Davidson has promised to install ABS as standard on all its motorcycles. And these measures are caused not only by increasingly stringent legal requirements, but also by the real need to increase the level of safety for drivers of two-wheeled vehicles. In some countries, even insurance for a motorcycle with ABS is cheaper, and therefore the demand for them is growing.

As strange as it may sound, the only thing I was missing throughout the entire test was the flames on the gas tank. This is an indispensable attribute of many choppers, and our Wide Glide in almost all illustrations on the Internet flaunts a “flaming” tank. The black glossy color, of course, also suits him. But, if you’re going to shell out such a considerable sum for this beauty, you want it to look more vibrant and individual.

(Height: 186 cm, weight: 125 kg)

Sports chopper is an unusual phrase, isn't it? Some might argue that it is not new - after all, so-called “power cruisers” have recently appeared on the market, and Harley-Davidson has a Sportster model. But cruisers are not choppers, and the Sportster is not a cruiser, and it doesn’t have the same engine. Now imagine that on the “older” one they changed the motor, increasing its volume by almost one and a half times and lengthening the base by almost 2 centimeters. Ergonomics are generally not bad: the seating position turned out to be very comfortable, despite the arms and legs stretched forward - largely thanks to the well-profiled seat. All controls are under the fingers and toes. But there is still one “jamb” - it is extremely inconvenient to twist the left foot in order to move to the side the side stand, hidden behind the huge rear protrusion of the gearbox. Harley’s “good old” 96 TwinCam is easily recognized by the familiar rumble that comes from its depths when you press the starter button, after which it begins to quietly rumble with its stock exhaust. The first gear is also engaged with a rich Harley “clack!” All sounds are certainly proprietary, and I would not be surprised if they are patented as part of the character of the “iron American motorcycle”

The combination of a very “torque” engine and a “stretched” gearbox (on the first I easily accelerated to 60, and on the third – right up to 130 km/h!) allows you to use only two gears in city traffic, and since the peak torque falls at only 3000 rpm, then up to 80% of the engine power is available almost from idle: if you turn the throttle sharply enough (even at a small angle), you can feel how this seemingly difficult chopper literally jumps forward. I'm not kidding - that's exactly how it is. Such sharpness can play a cruel joke in a dense traffic jam, especially with a less experienced rider. I don’t know whether this behavior of the model is connected with the consonance (for the Russian-speaking ear) of the words “wide” and “wild” in it, but the adjective “wild” comes to mind. An attempt to reduce this effect by increasing the free play of the throttle by rotating the thumb (which is located at the bottom of the handle, near the cables) did not yield anything, but on the contrary, only strengthened the “sudden start” effect. But, a little later, having gotten used to it, I even began to experience pleasure from such an instantaneous reaction of the engine (it should be noted that it was unusual for this category of motorcycles). And after driving a little and getting used to the behavior of the “Wild Dyna” in changing lanes, I was happy to maneuver in fast traffic flows, unscrewing the gas and easily moving through the “windows”. The brakes also give you confidence when driving dynamically. After the start of cooperation H.-D. With Brembo (although the company does not advertise this), you can forget about the “chopper - no brakes” stereotype in relation to this brand. High efficiency and the same information content, both front and rear, give the Dyna Wide Glide owner the confidence to stop in a timely manner, even if he exceeds city speed limits. But not everything is so rosy and every barrel of honey has its own spoon of honey! In the case of Daina, this role is played by rear shock absorbers with a stroke of less than 8 centimeters and... the lousy condition of the asphalt surface in the city of Kyiv. Two classic shock absorbers do their job normally, but only in two cases. The first is that you are driving quite slowly, and the larger the irregularities, the lower the speed should be. Optimally – from 20 km/h when driving over speed bumps and up to 80-90 when driving on “relatively flat asphalt”. And the second - when all the bumps and holes that fall under the rear wheel do not exceed a quarter of the shock absorber travel in size. Carelessness can be costly. Example: I lost support under my left leg and almost lost control of the motorcycle (along with the trajectory), hitting a small oblique transverse asphalt influx at a speed of about 110 km/h, which, if I were on an enduro, I might not even notice. At the same time, there is one trick that at the last moment allows you to partially save the situation if the unevenness is noticed in time: raise your butt at least a little above the saddle, sharply pulling yourself up on the handlebars - fortunately, it is very thick in diameter and strong. So, with the “wild thing” on Ukrainian roads, its owner should be careful, attentive and physically strong!

What's with the comfort of the Harley Davidson Dinah Love Rider?

The developers have modified the handlebars, seat and footpegs for a better ride for bikers of medium and small stature. Now it is possible to move the steering handles closer to the steering wheel by as much as six centimeters, and to move the saddle forward by 3 centimeters. Any problems, of course, cannot be avoided, but this has greatly improved the ergonomics. Using a similar method, the footrests themselves can be adjusted, so customers can find the best position.

But, regardless of the rider’s height, the knees are too high at the elbows, and the saddle is too low. When purchasing, you need to test the bike; not everyone will like its unusual fit, and for some even it will be uncomfortable.

This bike looks out at the track beyond its small fairing and is easily recognizable. For fast driving at a low landing, you need a fairing. The designers placed the canopy deeper into the windshield - this moment gave the bike an aggressive look. This motorcycle is quite powerful and easy to control. The motor is air cooled. The bike has Premium Ride suspension components at the front and rear, which provide better handling and high comfort.

Nice rack-mounted handlebars, an updated saddle and mid-mounted controls give the biker's riding position some aggressiveness. The braking structure is equipped with ABS. The “base” includes a Harley-Davidson cruise control system and alarm system, equipped at the enterprise. The motorcycle is quite easy to control, equipped with all the devices that should be in modern motorcycles.

The bike is light and mobile, superbly assembled. The Harley-Davidson Dyna Low Rider includes all the hallmark street custom features that define its segment. The basic equipment includes exceptional paintwork, giving the brand an original look.

Harley-Davidson Dyna Low Rider. If you go lower, you'll be cooler

The Dyna family of motorcycles was born in 1991. It currently has five models: Street Bob, Fat Bob, Switchback, Wide Glide and Low Rider. All these motorcycles are built on the same “platform” - Dyna itself and have a kind of perimetric frame, a 103-inch (1690 cm3) air-cooled engine attached to the frame through rubber spacers, and external spring-hydraulic shock absorbers running from the frame to the rear swingarm pendants

You can distinguish Dyna from Softail by the external shock absorbers of the rear suspension, and from the “older” Sportster by its larger engine.

I had the opportunity to get to know the legendary Dyna family better through the example of the updated classic Low Rider.

This model first appeared back in 1977, when there was no Dyna at all, and was distinguished by a deeply recessed seat, which gave the rider the feeling that he was sitting not “on” the motorcycle, but “in”. After several modifications in the early 1990s, the Low Rider was transferred to the new Dyna platform - Harley-Davidson's first computer-designed one.

On motorcycles of this family, rubber vibration isolators are placed between the engine and the frame to which it is attached. Because of this, the devices vibrate strongly at idle, but during movement the “tremor” stops, and you can see a fairly clear picture in the rear-view mirrors. Nevertheless, Dyna has gained the reputation of “motorcycles leaving” the owner. I was curious to check how far the Low Rider could jump from me, but in this regard it was a little disappointing: yes, it vibrates, but not in a “horror-horror-horror” way.

The turn signal indicators are located on the tachometer (the lower “glass” of the tidy): to look at it, you have to lower your eyes, taking your eyes off the road. And the turn signals also turn off automatically, it’s not clear when

True to its name, the Low Rider saddle is positioned just 680mm above the ground, giving even the shortest rider the ability to reach the tarmac. And so that he (or she) could also reach the handlebars and footpegs, Harley-Davidson engineers conducted user surveys and then spent a long time working on computer models, calculating the possible relationships in the support triangle of the handlebar-saddle-pegs. As a result, they managed to create such proportions of the motorcycle that it would be comfortable to ride for both a tall man and a petite woman (among the latter, the Low Rider is deservedly popular). In addition, the seat moves forward by 3 cm, and a lumbar support pad can be attached to it. The height of the footrests and the tilt of the steering wheel are also adjustable.

However, due to these tricks and the desire to please everyone, the landing on the Low Rider turned out to be very strange: the arms are extended forward, the back is tilted, and the legs are bent at an acute angle, and if it were not a Harley-Davidson, but some kind of Oka , I would say that they cover their ears with their knees. But over time you get used to it...

Stylish 2-in-1 exhaust system - a tribute to classic style

The suspension of the device is tuned quite rigidly for the sake of better handling and rider comfort. On our roads, this means that at seams, joints and other “natural” irregularities the rider is noticeably thrown up. But control is maintained on an incline, although very limited by the low ground clearance (105 mm), and during sudden braking. If desired, the suspension can be softened slightly by adjusting the preload of the shock absorber springs and the front fork.

A fairly rigid chassis and low center of gravity make it easy to maneuver at low speeds. But, having accelerated to 100 kilometers per hour, you feel that the motorcycle is stubborn and resists the driver’s desire to deviate from the intended trajectory.

The Low Rider engine is a familiar one from many other Harley-Davidson models: the air-cooled Twin Cam 103. Claimed torque is 126 Nm and power is 72 hp. With. (judging by the registration documents) is generally sufficient for safe movement in almost any mode and mood, and the elasticity of the motor is such that you do not have to frequently click the gear shift paw.

The seat is moderately hard, comfortable, moves towards the steering wheel by 3 cm

The Low Rider impresses with its old-school looks, customizable ergonomics and pleasant, calm, yet easy-going character. But the landing, which is the distinctive feature of this bike, also becomes its main controversial aspect.
