On the vast majority of Chinese-made two-wheeled dump trucks, the camshaft drive is implemented by a chain. I don't know what this is connected with. Maybe with some canons of Feng Shui known only to the Chinese... Or maybe this drive scheme was not chosen by the Chinese by chance, but in order to reduce production costs or for fundamental reasons. I don’t know, and I have no particular desire to argue about this.

For me personally, as a person who is constantly involved in repairing this kind of junk, timing chain drive is not a very preferable technical solution. The chain is always a problem. I'll explain why. During engine operation, the chain gradually stretches due to which the valve timing shifts by a significant angle, which at one “wonderful” moment can reach a critical value and the piston, while the engine is running, will hit the valve with all the consequences...

Also, there are often cases when the chain simply breaks or jumps over the teeth or falls off, which in most cases also leads to the piston hitting the valve. In addition, the mere fact that to replace the chain you will have to remove and disassemble the entire engine or, for example, when removing the cylinder head you will have to re-install the valve timing, causes me great irritation.

But time passes, and to my great joy, small-capacity “Chinese” engines began to appear in our area, equipped with a 162 FMJ engine in which the valve drive is implemented by rods from two lower camshafts. Many will say that this scheme is a classic of the automotive industry, and therefore outdated, inert, etc. One cannot but agree with this, but only that this drive is outdated and inert. In everything else, including reliability, durability and ease of maintenance, it has never been and probably will not be equal.

The studs are important because they assemble the “crankcase-cylinder-head” package into a single whole. The absence of one of them will easily result in weakening of the joint, resulting in loss of compression.

    If we are talking about two-stroke power plants, a mineral-based analog with a minimum ignition temperature and ash content is selected. This will be enough for normal operation of the internal combustion engine. The lubricant is mixed with fuel according to the manufacturer's instructions.

    When a 4-stroke engine is being serviced, and there is no access to official recommendations or instructions, you can select oil for the Lifan walk-behind tractor according to the following points.

    The basis

    For a 4-stroke walk-behind tractor engine, you should select mineral or semi-synthetic lubricants. Don't worry about the sheer simplicity of the base. Such power plants are developed taking into account the use of ordinary “gardeners”, whose budget for equipment maintenance is usually small. In most cases, high-quality mineral water will be more than enough.

    Pure synthetics poured into the crankcase will be too fluid for the unit, which will lead to leaks. Also, such mixtures can lead to excessive wear of friction units due to the formation of too thin a protective film.

    Tolerances

    If we consider the selection of lubricants from the perspective of tolerances and specifications, here you should pay attention to formulas that meet the requirements of API SG/CJ. Lubricants exceeding this value are also suitable.

    Viscosity

    The selection of lubricant by viscosity is carried out based on specific operating conditions and time of year. For the summer of central Russia, liquid type SAE-30 or 40 is optimal. In winter, it is recommended to pay attention to products like 10W/15W.

    If the equipment is used all year round, without seasonal breaks, you can safely pour 5W-30/10W-40 liquids.

    177fmm is not suitable for hard enduro

    When motorcycles with a 177fmm engine began to appear, I was thinking about purchasing one in the future or doing a swap with this engine.

    Inexpensive spare parts, a popular and reliable engine - many advantages.

    In the first option, I was thinking about buying a Chinese motorcycle and then having the suspension adjusted, maybe even in a specialized workshop for money, but it’s expensive.

    In the second option, I was thinking about installing a 177fmm engine in the frame of some Austrian sports bike, for example, a KTM EXC or a KTM SX-F. Cool chassis and resourceful engine.

    Over time, the desire to get involved with this engine disappeared. It's good, but there are some moments that I personally don't like. And this is what I want to write about.

    Dimensions and weight

    The first photo shows a GR7 Enduro Pro motorcycle.

    The second photo shows a Husqvarna FE 250.

    There is an opinion that the Chinese motorcycle is copied from Husqarna.
