Many motorcyclists around the world learned to ride this road bike. This is not accidental, since the Yamaha UBR 125 forgives many mistakes for beginners, and the small volume of its engine certainly makes the task easier for an inexperienced biker.
However, there are people who even managed to travel on this model, and here we cannot fail to mention the significant advantage of this small-sized and small-capacity bike - a large power reserve without any refueling, which is over 400 km.
Specifications
The bike can't boast of outstanding features, but it doesn't cost much. Models such as the WR 125 and YZF-R125 from the same manufacturer are much more interesting and brighter, but their cost is several times higher than the price of the Yamaha YBR 125. In the end, as a road-class training motorcycle, it fully lives up to its expectations . It is clear that it is not suitable for the race track.
Dimensions and weight
Even with fuel, the YBR 125 weighs only 125 kg, while its gas tank has a volume of 13 liters. Gasoline consumption averages 3 liters per hundred kilometers, which explains how some managed to make entire trips on it. The seat height of 780 mm makes the motorcycle suitable for people of average height. In size it is a very small car, as evidenced by the wheelbase of 1290 mm.
Description Yamaha YBR 125
The manufacturer positions the Yamaha YBR 125 as an inexpensive first motorcycle for learning to ride. It has earned a reputation among owners for being reliable and easy to use, while its ease of handling, weight of 120 kg, size and price make it a leader among small displacement training motorcycles.
Features of Yamaha YBR 125
- Nice design.
- It is a full-fledged motorcycle, not a moped.
- The seat is comfortable, wide and upright, providing comfort when driving in city traffic jams.
- The Ebrik is comfortable when driving on dirt roads, thanks to a tubular steel diagonal frame, a telescopic fork at the front and two pendulum shock absorbers at the rear.
- This road bike has good braking performance as it has a hydraulically actuated ventilated disc brake at the front and a drum brake at the rear.
- Multi-disc clutch operating in an oil bath.
- Starts with electric and kickstarter.
- Almost does not vibrate when the speed increases (a balancer shaft is included in the engine design).
- Convenient dashboard with a full set of indicators. They have a soft backlight and are conveniently viewed while the motorcycle is moving.
- The Yamaha EBR 125 has light alloy cast aluminum wheels.
- There is a steering wheel lock using the ignition key.
Advantages and disadvantages
+ Low cost; + Low fuel consumption and repair costs; + Reliability; + Good control control; + Ease of maintenance; | — Dim light from the headlight installed at the factory; — Low speed; — Sometimes the engine overheats in hot weather. |
Main settings
The engine of the Yamaha EBR 125 is four-stroke, air-cooled, the number of cylinders is 1. Volume - 124 cubic meters. cm, power - 10 l. s., torque - 9.6 Nm at 6000-7800 rpm.
The maximum speed of the ebrik is 110 km/h. The first gear allows you to accelerate to 30 km/h, and then shift every 10-20 km. The gears are quite short and you have to switch them quite often to gain good speed. By the way, the motorcycle has 5 gears.
The approximate fuel consumption per 100 km for this motorcycle is about 3 liters. The fuel tank holds 13 liters of gasoline.
The Yamaha YBR 125 motorcycle has a front tire of 2.75-18 42P and a rear tire of 90/90-18 M/C 57P. Tire pressure with a load of up to 90 kg (i.e. only the driver) is 175 kPa and 196 kPa, and when driving with a passenger it should be 196 and 245 kPa on the front and rear wheels, respectively.
If we take the dimensions, the motorcycle has a mass of 117 kg, a saddle height of 780 cm, and a total length of almost 2 meters.
The estimated cost in Russia is from 60,000 to 170,000 rubles, depending on the condition of the motorcycle.
Chassis and brakes
The suspension here is quite good, although it will not impress picky people. Simple, like the rest of the motorcycle, the telescopic fork has no adjustments, and its travel is 120 mm. The rear swingarm, together with a double shock absorber, has a stroke of 90 mm.
The brakes here are weak, but this is enough for such a low-power and light bike as the YBR 125. A drum version is used at the rear, while a 245 mm disc with a single-piston caliper is installed at the front. The exterior of the model is quite cute and very old-fashioned, but at the same time it does not resemble a motorcycle produced before the 80s.
Even very reliable equipment sometimes starts to malfunction, so YBRik, time-tested, did not return home yesterday...
Part 4: Breakdown on a long-distance trip (or how to return home separately from the motorcycle)
Navigator by parts: [Part 1] - [Part 2] - [Part 3] - [Part 4]
Day 8. (08.07). Ufa - Balakovo - 49 km from Ufa, a little further than the turn to Chishmy (M5)
61 km // 12:00 - 00:00 // Some kind of high temperature
It was an ordinary morning, ordinary preparations for the road. Half an hour to secure things - and off we go. There are no signs of trouble. Well, the valves rustle, well, they almost make that sound from the factory. Well, the 85 motorcycle rides - well, I always rode like that with bags, and my speedometer matches the GPS 1:1. Okay, nothing unusual. I decided to refuel not in the city, but a little further away. Because I’ve driven this route 4-5 times already and remember all the gas stations I need. So, I stopped, refueled, and off I went.
Nothing new, food, food, food, *melon*. I'm sorry, what? *uy-yyy* [thrust disappears]. *GRGRGRGRGR* 80-70-60-40-20-0... Well, that’s it...
I barely climbed the climb and there YBRik told me where to go with all these long-haulers. I understand that this does not smell like gingerbread. I immediately take out all the tools and climb under all the engine covers to remove obvious problems. The timing chain is tensioned and the marks match. The valves are exhaust valves in perfect order, intake valves with an incomprehensible gap. In the entire range, except for TDC, the rocker arm has a large stroke, and at TDC it tightly clamps any feeler gauge. I adjusted the bolt, but nothing changed. There was a suspicion that the valve was jammed. The compression was at least minimal, but it was there (a napkin tightly shoved into the spark plug hole was spat out from the kick without any problems)
Passing motorcyclists stopped and helped with tools and numbers from Ufa craftsmen. I called the numbers, many did not answer. Those who answered sent the numbers of tow trucks. I called to inquire about the price, but I also didn’t get through. No, I understand that I need it most, but why do we need tow trucks if you can’t reach them?
I calculated two possible outcomes of events: 1. I call a tow truck, go to Ufa for repairs, or at least for a consultation with a mechanic. 2. I catch a passing truck in the direction of Saratov and drive home with a long-haul truck.
I walked about 300 meters to the truck parking lot, there was a gazebo with benches. I think I’ll stand here and persuade truck drivers to bring a moped. I saw regions 64, 63, 34 and 30 - I approached and directly asked where they were going and whether they could take me on board. Everyone was loaded (or didn’t want to take it), they asked on the radio - silence in response. Others simply periodically asked for a walkie-talkie to find out if there were any rides. I say that you can drive away in a GAZelle, but there is still silence.
I posted an announcement about the breakdown in 10 different VK communities, from the main community of long-distance truckers and motorcycle travelers to the car community in Balakovo. There was a lot of advice, a lot of phone numbers of workshops and tow trucks, but the problem is that I have not yet had a chance to call only every 3. Unfortunately, I somehow didn’t notice the number for the help center for motorcycle travelers, although there were comments. I only discovered it at home after re-reading the messages. Perhaps the outcome would have been different.
Here I sit, squawk in the gazebo and repeat the algorithm with trips to the trucks. The tea in the thermos is tasteless, but warm. It got noticeably colder at night, tea was very helpful. At 10 pm I decided that that was all for today, the trucks were stopping for the night, no one was going anywhere today. I'll wait for the morning. He spread the rug on the bench and lay down. I thought I would fall asleep, but I didn’t sleep for a second.
Day 9. (09.07). Back to Ufa.
~60 km // 09:00 — 00:00 // I don’t care about the temperature.
In the morning I’m doing another raid on trucks. I’m waiting for the truck driver I need to wake up and knock on the cab: “Hello, are you heading towards Saratov? Is it full?((I’ll ask on the radio? ///*on the radio* Good morning everyone, who is traveling along the M5 from Ufa towards Saratov or Samara empty and can take a motorcycle with things on board? It broke down on the way home. The motorcycle is small, a GAZelle will suffice "Ready to pay. *silence in response*."
A person from Ufa responded to VK and offered to help with delivering the motorcycle back to the city. On the phone he introduced himself as Ildar and told how things were going with the repairmen and spare parts. Something tells me that in my village I would be more likely to find a workshop and spare parts if necessary. One way or another, I agree to voluntary evacuation and wait for a car with a large trailer.
I threw off my things, returned to the gazebo for a snack, and the guys from Chelyabinsk were already sitting there. Before they knew that I had broken down, they started feeding me meat and bread and shared boiling water)). I didn’t intend to eat so heavily, but on a full stomach the situation didn’t seem so sad.
The car arrived. We load the motorcycle into the trailer and take it to the workshop.
They waited for the repairman, by that time the fucker had completely fallen back and didn’t want to start anymore. Didn't even try. The starter turns, but there is no reaction, only something rumbles inside. I get advice that it might be easier and cheaper to change the engine than to look for spare parts and wait for them to arrive. Well, I don’t even know. I remember that back in 1914, you could buy a new engine for 30k (and now it’s 45k, second-hand prices are about 15-20). They immediately offered me to drive a little further and send the motorcycle with a transport company. Well, this option no longer seemed expensive. Hanging around in Ufa and having to make repairs at the same time would also cost a lot of money, maybe even more expensive.
We turn into the desired passage and unload. To send it, I had to drain all the gasoline. On YBR this is done extremely simply. I turned out the tank with the fuel filter, substituted a bottle with a funnel and drained it for good measure. It’s good during operation, but there’s no way you’ll end up in a parking lot without fuel with those who like to drain fuel... The drained gasoline was donated to a VAZ driver who was standing next to it. In response, I received 3 containers of honey. Interesting barter. It’s a shame it won’t work like that at a gas station.
Well, that's not about that now. I rolled the YBR onto the scales and weighed the items separately. The total was 2.5 cubes of luggage weighing 220 kg. For the shipment they counted 8900 , of which 60 rubles was insurance for the cargo in the amount of 60,000. I handed over all the things except the most necessary ones.
I went to the station, took a ticket for the morning and spent the night right there. I didn’t sleep again (it was impossible to lie down).
Day 10. (10.07). Returned by train to Balakovo.
Day 14. (14.07). YBR arrived at the local TC office.
We had to fiddle around to get the moto down the stairs (even when the YBR is broken, you should be glad that it’s just a tiny single-barreled gun that can be lifted and lowered with two people from any staircase. So it took two people down from the metal staircase, which was 45 degrees incline or even steeper, and width is less than a meter. It is more convenient to descend backwards. One walks in front and holds the motorcycle by the tail, the second stands higher and holds the front wheel and in time allows it to turn a little when descending.
And then I drove it to the garage. I reset the daily odometer and looked at the time . 3.5 km in 40 minutes, 5 of which were at a gas station. Average 6 km/h, not bad. This is the maximum speed on foot. The first kilometers were not me riding the YBR, but he riding me. Do you like to ride...
Well, that’s all, actually. Both the motorcycle and I arrived at the final point, which means the journey is considered complete. You can sum up the results of the trip, but for now without counting on the upcoming engine repair, a post about the autopsy in the coming days.
The total mileage is 2048.5 km. (1230 km - on a motorcycle, 65 km - in a trailer, 750 km - by train, 3.5 km - pushing a motorcycle)
Expenses: about 14,000 (of which 9,900 were spent on delivery of a motorcycle and a train ticket, which is 2.41 times more than for a week-long long-distance trip). (Now I understand how important the “airbag” is in the budget).
