Other snowmobile parts - Polaris Indy Lite 340 from USA

Polaris 550 Indy Voyager 155 is a high-performance device for demanding users. It belongs to the class of professional utilitarian snowmobiles, which are characterized by increased endurance. The model in question is suitable for sports and entertainment, as well as towing heavy loads. This device can also be used for fishing and hunting trips. In general, the Polaris 550 model is able to fully satisfy the needs of its owners, regardless of the purpose for which they purchase the car. The utilitarian snowmobile of the 550 family is ideal for difficult off-road obstacles.

Let us note the fact that the Polaris 550 Indy Voyager is highly popular, like all utilitarian snowmobiles. The machine stands out for its affordable price and quality of workmanship, which is typical of all Polaris products. This device is unpretentious in long-term use and is a model for universal use. The fact is that initially the car in question belonged to the Performance sports line, aimed at professional athletes. This may explain why the 550 Indy Voyager has refined handling.

Production of the snowmobile began in 2013. The machine immediately gained popularity among ordinary users who use snowmobiles mainly for adventure and family recreation. The model in question is in demand in many countries around the world, including Russia. The Indy Voyager line has brand differences from its predecessors - both externally and technically. Let's pay special attention to the elongated tunnel and wide track. Also among the improvements was a high windshield and an additional trunk located behind the single-seat layout.

The Polaris 550 Indy is equipped with a high-strength Pro-Ride double-wishbone suspension that is designed to handle challenging terrain. Let’s also pay attention to the universal gas-filled shock absorbers RydeFX MPV, which are Polaris’ own development. Pro-Float flared skis are made of durable plastic that is not subject to deformation when hitting hard objects. Such skis not only increase structural strength, but also improve handling and increase directional stability. In addition, the combination of wide skis and double-wishbone suspension had a beneficial effect on the comfort and softness of passing obstacles.

The Polaris 550 Indy Voyager is a versatile snowmobile with a powerful powertrain that has plenty of power and high torque. Thanks to this, the driver will not have problems transporting large cargo on loose snow or uphill. At the same time, the snowmobile is capable of covering long distances at high speed, because it is also a sports model. Good dynamic qualities can be achieved when fully loaded, and at the same time avoiding serious speed losses caused by a large load capacity.

As a result, Polaris has produced a high-quality and well-handling snowmobile, adapted to any road surface and climatic conditions - for example, to the northern regions of Russia. In addition to excellent handling, the car combines high maneuverability, smooth running and fuel efficiency. Thanks to the use of lightweight materials, it was possible to reduce the overall weight of the snowmobile, which is a signature feature of the entire Indy sports line.

Driving Polaris tourist snowmobiles

In past winters we have ridden almost every type of snowmobile.
Sports, mountain, utilitarian, tourist. The tests took place according to the standard (and safest) scenario: driving in an endless snow field. Perhaps this is the best testing ground for getting acquainted with high-speed models. What about tourist ones? Let's try them out today in the true elements. On a really long journey. So, we saddle up a pair of the latest Polaris and hit the road through the snowy silence. Not the Arctic region, of course, but the Moscow region. The FIRST test awaited our Polaris literally a hundred meters later. Having left the doors of the motorcycle dealership, we stopped hesitantly in front of a wide asphalt ribbon along which cars whizzed by from time to time. Actually, it's no big deal. In fact, this is a common obstacle for fans of long winter walks. We carefully increase the gas and, roughing our skis along the asphalt, the snowmobiles crawl forward. In such situations, the main thing is not to rush. Move at walking speed and everything will be fine. I will reassure those who fear for the safety of the caterpillar. The snowmobile “truck” is one of the most durable elastic structures in the world. Its lifespan is equal to the service life of the snowmobile itself. The skis are also extremely durable. One of our Polaris was equipped with plastic skis. This is an advantage that you should pay attention to when choosing a snowmobile. In a word, snowmobiles are not afraid of asphalt.

...Having broken through the snow dump, our Polaris broke into operational space. The notorious endless winter field stretched ahead. The cherry Indy 500 Classic began to slowly break away from the dark green 500 Tgan Sport. Due to greater power.

As you probably already guessed, both Polaris are equipped with engines of the same displacement - 500 cubic centimeters. Both engines are two-stroke 2-cylinder. But there is one fundamental difference: the Tgan Sport engine is air-cooled, while the Indy 500 Classic is liquid-cooled. This gives some gain in power. In addition, this engine sounds more noble. If you stand with your back to the Indy, you might think that a car is passing behind. And only when the revolutions exceed 6,000, the listener will understand that something equipped with a forced two-stroke is rushing behind him.

By the middle of the field the speed exceeds 100 km/h. Of course, in terms of speed, touring class models are as far from sports cars as Mercedes-Benz is from Lamborghini. However, the speedometers of both Polaris are marked up to “160”, which indicates sufficient speed potential.

By the way, we mentioned Merc for good reason. Like the famous German automobile, one of the main trump cards of our snowmobiles is the highest comfort. This is especially true for the chic cherry Indy 500 Classic. For example, not only the steering wheel grips are electrically heated, but also the rear handles that the passenger holds on to!

If there is no passenger, then the rear backrest moves under the driver’s back with one movement of the hand. And you sit relaxed, as if in an armchair, enjoying the soothing smoothness of the tracked vehicle (sports models are stiffer and sharper; you must always keep your eyes open while driving such monsters). Before the eyes of the driver of the Indy 500 Classic is a full set of instruments: speedometer, tachometer and even a fuel reserve scale. The engine, like on a good motorcycle, is started by an electric starter. The Polaris Indy 500 Classic costs $8,930.

"Tgan Sport" is cheaper - $7,800. However, this model is simpler: starting with an air-cooled engine and ending with moderate equipment. The only instruments are the speedometer. To start the engine, you need to sharply pull the cord, like a motorboat. True, to the credit of Polaris, it should be noted that even in the cold, a cold engine starts in this way on the second or third attempt. Overall, compared to the refined Indy 500 Classic, the dark green Tgan Sport looks like a more utilitarian snowmobile, largely adapted for practical purposes. For example, the Tgan Sport standard package includes a spacious trunk behind the rear seat and a towbar for towing a trailer.

We stop at the edge of the forest to take photographs. And only now do we realize how amazing the maneuverability of our cars is: the photographer got off the saddle and... immediately fell into the snow up to his waist.

The cherry “Indy 500 Classic” is distinguished by high comfort. For example, not only the steering wheel grips are equipped with electric heating, but also the rear handles, which the passenger holds on to! The passenger backrest moves under the driver's back with one movement of the rooney

Our Polaris do not care about the depth of snow under the track: be it one centimeter or one meter. Or even two... You have to turn around and go look for another place where you can safely work with the camera. We back up. Both Polaris have reverse (which for some reason most buyers who purchase their first snowmobile do not pay attention to). A very valuable feature. Snowmobiles weigh about 300 kilograms, and pulling them by hand is no fun. What if it turns out that you have reached a dead end? Or will you need to “rock” a car stuck in a snowdrift? Or just simply drive out of the garage?

...Now, perhaps, the most interesting part of the program. It turns out that one of the most invigorating and exhilarating rides in the world is a brisk walk through a winding forest clearing. When a nimble squirrel rushes away from the road like a swift red arrow. When the blinding crystal snow dust flies from the trees, knocked down by the whirlwind from a snowmobile rushing past. Of course, you have to be more careful in the forest than in the field. You should learn some management techniques that you had never thought about before.

The dark green Tran Sport looks like a more utilitarian snowmobile, largely adapted for practical purposes. For example, the standard Tgan Sport package includes a spacious trunk behind the rear seat and a towbar for towing a trailer.

For example, the hand brake on any snowmobile is tight enough. We used it very rarely before. Usually, a banal release of the gas is enough for the snow machine to peck its sharp nose and begin to quickly reduce speed. As it turned out, the brake located under the left hand helps to navigate the bends of the forest road faster. You enter a turn at obviously high speed, then at the beginning of the arc, with several quick movements, simulating ABS, you press the brake. The stern of the snowmobile begins to skid (the brake blocks the caterpillar). Once the nose is aimed at the exit of the corner, you simply apply the throttle gently.

...Two dozen kilometers of forest clearing ended disappointingly quickly. We ran into the Moscow ring road rustling with thousands of tires. Just opposite the stationary traffic police post. Isn't it time to warm up a little? From under the Indy saddle, as if from a magician’s hat, appears a foggy bottle of Smirnovka, plastic glasses and a simple snack. The first to solder is the photographer, who is already quite fit to be the husband of the Snow Queen... Amazed by our impudence, the inspectors look at the outrage being committed for a couple of seconds, then simply turn their backs to us. Like, they can’t see us point-blank. We are empty space for them.

Of course, I was left with a slight feeling of guilt. As one of us put it, it was rude and un-European. But, you must admit, it’s damn nice to drink it, dear, in front of three patrol officers, while sitting behind the wheel of powerful and fast cars. Well, that's enough! Fifty grams is quite enough. Modern snowmobiles will not tolerate drunken familiarity. In any conditions, they require composure and good reaction. It's time to head back.

Engine

The Polaris 550 Indy Voyager 155 snowmobile is equipped with a two-cylinder power plant of its own production. Each cylinder has a diameter of 73 mm and a piston stroke of 65 mm. The total working volume is 544 cubic meters. cm, and the engine power reaches 60 horsepower. Unlike more expensive snowmobiles, the model in question uses a VM34 carburetor power system, which has proven itself to be very reliable - it is very reliable and does not cause problems. The ignition system is condenser-type (CDI), and air cooling is responsible for ventilation of the internal combustion engine components.

The Indy Evo snowmobile is a tactical masterpiece

The 2022 Polaris Indy Evo snowmobile is a tactical masterpiece that allows Polaris to provide beginners with an effective, cost-effective tool without reinventing the wheel. The Polaris drivetrain and suspension have already proven themselves and do not cause any concern among customers. And if you also have height and weight parameters, driving the EVO is a pleasure. But even if these parameters are violated, the EVO still remains a fan device.

Price

The average cost of the Polaris 550 Indy Voyager snowmobile on the Russian market is around 320 thousand rubles for the basic configuration. The maximum configuration version will cost 400 thousand. The final cost will depend on the number of installed options. As an alternative, you can choose a used car, the price of which is set around 210-300 thousand rubles. In this case, the cost depends on the configuration, as well as the year of manufacture, technical condition and kilometers traveled. The manufacturer provides a 12-month warranty on the new snowmobile. In case of problems, the dealership is obliged to provide free warranty service.

Reviews

  • Sergey, Moscow region. I have a 2015 car that I purchased in new condition at a good discount. I will praise the snowmobile primarily for its wide skis and high front glass. These components are necessary to improve directional stability and maneuverability, as well as protection from oncoming cold winds. The car handles well on loose and packed snow. The 0.5-liter gasoline engine is very noisy, but pulls well uphill, even when loaded. For example, you can transport a sled with a small load without any problems. There is also a spacious trunk under the front seat. I was pleased with the fast acceleration up to 80 km/h and more. Overall, the snowmobile left a pleasant impression, because it can be used for any need, including fishing and hunting trips.
  • Igor, Sochi. I hoped that when buying an imported snowmobile I would use it according to the “sit down and go” principle. It turned out to be the other way around. The car has problems, especially with the chassis. Wide tracks are supposedly designed to improve directional stability, but this does not happen. The snowmobile does not steer well, and there is still a risk of capsizing at high speed. The double-wishbone suspension is not at all tuned for fast driving. Well, except that you can only drive in a straight line, and then with caution. After two weeks of use, the engine stopped starting - the problem turned out to be in the electric starter. I observed increased fuel and oil consumption even when driving slowly. The service center allowed me to replace the snowmobile under warranty, but refused to return the money. The replacement machine has not caused any problems so far; I have been using the second one for two months now.
  • Konstantin, Smolensk. In 2014, I decided to exchange my Buran for a new Polaris 550 Indy Voyager snowmobile. This model has practically no disadvantages compared to the Russian car. The snowmobile has enough power to overcome any obstacles, as well as ride along with a load. I praise the car for its versatility and practicality, high-quality finishing materials and perfectly fitted parts. The most serious malfunction that occurred in 2015 was the breakdown of the electric starter in severe frost. It’s good that the engineers also provided for manual starting, so I started the engine without any problems. The engine requires high-quality fuel, but you can live with it. Overall I liked the car and will recommend it to my friends.

Snowmobile Polaris 550 Indy Adventure

The 2014 Polaris 550 Indy Adventure snowmobile surprised us with its strong performance on the trail. Yes, its 544cc 2-stroke air-cooled engine made a lot more noise than a water-cooled one, but it spun the 144-inch track quickly enough to handle twisty trails at a very respectable speed of 30 to 70 kilometers per hour. . We really liked how the 55-horsepower engine briskly accelerated the large two-seater snowmobile on open groomed terrain. Of course, it cannot be called a racing snowmobile, it is a good snowmobile with excellent performance at low and medium speeds.

The Polaris 550 Indy Adventuree has proven itself to be a practical two-seat touring snowmobile. That's why Polaris designers decided to use it to create a new-for-2015 model, the 550 Indy Adventure. The idea was to give a utilitarian look to a snowmobile designed for off-road riding. Most likely, the car will be popular in harsh, snowy areas north of the Arctic Circle. We think that the 550 Indy Adventure will work very well there, because its equipment is reminiscent of the first snowmobiles from Polaris Sno-Travelers.

Chassis

When you first examine the Polaris 550 Indy Adventure 155 snowmobile, you immediately notice the very wide skis. They are very similar to Sno-Traveler skis. One gets the feeling that Polaris has replaced snow skis with water skis, they are 241 mm wide. The ski's surface area is 2,645 cm2, which is 45% larger than the Pro-Steer ski surface found on last year's 550 Adventure. It’s not for nothing that Polaris called them Pro-Float (from the English “float” - to float, stay on the surface). These skis would fit even a small plane.

One might think that such a wide ski would have a negative impact on handling, but the ski's two-stage keel design allows for surprisingly light steering and good snow flotation. Engineers deserve a solid A for their work. Also, the rear part of the skis is slightly raised to make reversing easier, so that the snowmobile does not get stuck if it hits a branch or other obstacle.

The Polaris 550 Indy Adventure features a 155-inch Cobra track with 1.6-inch cup lugs, so it can handle powder and rough snow with ease while still being able to handle corners and accelerate in a straight line on packed roads.

The Polaris 550 Indy Adventure is built on a long Pro-Ride aluminum chassis, so it needed to be equipped with its own unique articulated rear suspension. Polaris is not new to this issue; they already produced such devices in the 1980s. The 2015 version is a parallel rail arm design with an articulating rear end that can be raised to facilitate rearward movement and reduce the risk of bogging down in the snow. The Adventure 155, with dimensions of 381 mm wide and 3937 mm long, leaves an impressive footprint on the snow.
