Mini snowmobile "Husky" - description, advantages, reviews

Russian snowmobiles

Transport that uses tracks and skis for movement is very popular.

Indeed, in some regions of Russia, in conditions of off-road conditions and a lot of snow, far from civilization, this is the only possible means of fast movement.

In addition, snowmobiles are an integral part of winter active tourism.

And many hunting and fishing enthusiasts often choose the simplest and most affordable models of snowmobiles for transportation.

We will talk about one of them here. This is a Husky snowmobile, made in Russia.

Description of the snowmobile

The Husky snowmobile is a personal means of transportation.

It can move on snow or ice with a slope of no more than 20 degrees.

This model is not intended for driving on public roads or at night .

To ride a Husky mini snowmobile, you don’t need any special skills; it can be used by both adults and teenagers.

One of the most interesting and useful properties of this snow scooter is its quick-disassembly design . special tools are not needed for disassembly .

When disassembled (6 modules), Husky will fit compactly in the trunk of a class B passenger car.

Also, its individual parts, compactly folded, will not require much space during storage. No tools are required to assemble the snowmobile either. In five minutes he will be fully ready.

Husky snowmobiles have high cross-country ability . These compact units can move on loose snow, the thickness of which is 30 cm. With high snow density, the snowmobile rises up to 30 degrees.

Price policy

As has already become clear from the design features, the Husky snowmobile is a budget and affordable model. Its cost is about 60 thousand rubles, which makes the unit one of the most affordable among inexpensive options. Slight price fluctuations may depend on the region of sale and motorcycle showroom. Some sellers, in the form of a discount when purchasing motorized sleds, offer drags as a gift - light towed sleds that will allow you to pull a payload along a snowy plain. This year, an unprecedented promotion started in April - dealers set the price of the device at 49 thousand rubles! This opens up an opportunity for those who have long dreamed of purchasing a Husky snowmobile. The price, which has dropped by almost 20 thousand, makes it the most affordable snowmobile on the planet, which could not but affect sales. Despite the off-season, they grew at record levels.

Well thought out features

The model is equipped with an economical engine, so a full tank (3.6 liters) is enough for an active three-hour drive .
Given the Husky's ability to accelerate to 24 km/h, a license to drive this vehicle is not required.

Experienced engineers have carefully thought out all the features of the extreme conditions of use of this snowmobile.

The Husky engine can be started without problems at 20 degrees below zero. The pressure of the tracks on the snow surface is also reduced to the maximum – up to 36 g/cm.

This domestic snow scooter can operate at ambient temperatures from +5 to -30 °C.

Given its low load-bearing properties, it is not able to move through very deep snow , as well as overcome trenches, cables, hummocks or snow debris.

The Husky can withstand a maximum payload of up to 120 kg .

In addition, it is capable of pulling a sled with 100 kilograms of cargo.

The snowmobile was tested, during which two people (150 kg) moved on it over different terrain.

Husky showed his abilities perfectly on snow surfaces up to 30 cm deep.

Experts recommend. After driving the vehicle on ice, you need to stop the engine in a safe place, tilt the snowmobile and remove wet snow from the tracks.

This procedure must be carried out quickly, otherwise the snow and ice will freeze..

Now it is the dream of many motorcycle lovers. The price of the Suzuki Bandit 250 depends on the mileage, year of production, installed engine and the condition of the motorcycle itself.

The Japanese seem to have been very careful with this model, not squeezing everything they could out of it, so this “Bandit” simply has enormous potential for tuning.

Which motorized towing vehicle should you choose?

Before making a choice, you need to study the characteristics and scope of use of possible options, view photos and videos. Main criteria for choosing a motorized towing vehicle:

  • motor. The level of its load capacity depends on what power unit the equipment is equipped with;
  • movement speed. On average, this figure ranges from 25 to 50 km/h;
  • maximum movement range. This indicator depends on fuel consumption per hour or per 100 km of travel. The specific value of the indicator is specified in the technical specifications and user instructions;
  • load capacity. Most models are equipped with a trunk for a fuel canister and a set of necessary tools. In addition, a drag sled is attached to the motorized dog, just like to a real dog sled. The bulk of the cargo falls on them. Load capacity typically varies between 150 and 500 kg;
  • transmission (automated or CVT);
  • fuel tank capacity. It is selected in such a way that there is enough fuel for 2.0-2.5 hours;
  • type of drive (front or rear);
  • caterpillars. The choice depends on the type of surface on which you will be moving.

We hope that the knowledge gained from the review will help you make the right choice of axlebox.

Design Features

The Husky snowmobile has a unique design. For quick disassembly and assembly, no tools are needed. This is convenient for transportation and storage .

The chassis is assembled from two skis, as well as one Buran Polyus MD track, the width of which is 380 mm.

The engine used here is the Ruslight 168 1\2-2, which is in many ways similar to the equivalent unit of the Honda GX200.

Its power is 6.5 horsepower. It is capable of accelerating a snowmobile up to 24 km/h when using a high-speed sprocket, and when using a traction sprocket – up to 19 km/h.

Manufacturers equipped the snowmobile with a telescopic suspension at the front and a balancer at the rear.

How to choose a motorized towing vehicle

Types of motorized towing vehicles

Before you buy a motorized towing vehicle, you need to decide on its purpose and method of use: for driving in the snow, on swampy ground or rough terrain.

For driving through the swamp, models with removable tracks are used, which can be equipped with 4 or 6 wheels. Special requirements are placed on the frame. It must be made of high-strength metal.

Models with front-wheel drive are considered the optimal hunting and fishing option. This is explained by the fact that due to the large load in the bow, contact with the soil increases. This motorized dog moves well on bad roads or in off-road conditions.

Depending on the type of drive, front- and rear-wheel drive models are distinguished. The advantage of the latter is that they are easy to control and maneuverable. This can be achieved due to the fact that the center of gravity is located near the hitch point. A loaded motorized dog moves perfectly, but can rear up if it moves empty. The center of gravity of the front-wheel drive model is close to the front. This helps to increase the contact area with the surface. Thus, the degree of cross-country ability of the front-wheel drive model does not depend on the load. Such modifications are more reliable than rear-wheel drive ones and, as practice shows, are much less difficult to maintain.

Suspension

There are 2 types of suspensions: slip and roller. The peculiarity of the latter is that it does not have a rigid support in the middle of the tracks. The cost of models with slip pendants is lower. They are great at towing sleds. However, it is not the best choice for sandy or hard soils. If there is no snow cover, metal parts rub more, which leads to rapid wear. The mechanical part of the chassis fails very quickly.

For movement on hard, snow-free surfaces, a roller-type suspension is excellent. The rollers look like small wheels, reminiscent of tank wheels. All-season models of motorized dogs, indispensable for use on agricultural enterprises and on expeditions, are equipped with roller suspensions. The disadvantage of rollers is that when driving on snow or mud, they quickly become clogged. Roller models are ideal for solving average problems. A motorcycle tug with slick suspensions is more suitable for operation in conditions close to extreme.

A good option for moving through swamps is pneumatic wheels. The movement is soft and comfortable. But such cars are far from cheap and rarely go on sale.

Engine

The engine power of a motorized sled determines the speed of movement of the motorized dog and the load capacity of the unit. The most common option is 15 horsepower 4-stroke engines per cylinder. However, as power increases, fuel consumption also increases.

Motorized towing vehicle transmission

The advantage of an automatic transmission is that it makes it possible to develop maximum traction force. However, the structure of the “machine” is too complex, and therefore the degree of reliability is less. The variator has a simpler design and is therefore more reliable. The cost of a CVT transmission is lower than that of an automatic transmission.

Frame

It is made of steel - hard and durable, but at the same time devoid of fragility. This part of the axlebox bears the maximum impact loads, so the main requirement for the frame is resistance to deformation. Its minimum thickness is 3 mm.

Caterpillars

The best option for moving a tractor through snow drifts are “aggressive” tracks with large hooks. However, for snowless areas this option is far from the best. The vehicle's maneuverability largely depends on the size of the tracks. The larger the dimensions of the motorized dog and the wider the tracks, the higher the cross-country ability of the model. But as the size increases, the maneuverability of the unit suffers. The best track width is 500 mm, and the maximum practical towing length is 1500 mm. Very convenient are the universal modular designs, which allow you to equip the towing vehicle with skis or wheels if necessary.

Optional equipment

The purpose of additional equipment is to make the device itself more versatile and make riding it more comfortable. Additional equipment includes:

  • modules (wheeled or ski);
  • electric starter;
  • device for heating the handles.

Sometimes the equipment is supplied complete with the axle box, sometimes you have to purchase it separately.

Husky snowmobile upgrades

In 2008, the Husky snowmobile was patented as an industrial design.
And already in 2009, the first samples went on sale and immediately found their owners.

In 2011, the manufacturer applied a new solution for mounting the motor to the chassis .

In addition, the process and time for connecting the motor has been simplified. You no longer need a tool to tighten the chain.

The snowmobile was also equipped with a hood for the power unit made of leatherette and heat-resistant tarpaulin.

As a result, the carburetor and throttle control mechanism received good protection from freezing .

As a result of testing the improved model, an increase in traction force on dense snow was noted.

In 2013, a new trolley was developed . The track has been enlarged by 250 mm, elastic bushings have been used to install the balance suspension, and the roller bearings have received reliable protection from water.

Cross-country ability on loose snow has also increased . Vibrations from the road surface have decreased by more than two times.

The load on the rollers at the front has also decreased. These characteristics were achieved without compromising the transport capabilities of the snowmobile.

Assembly and disassembly instructions

It is recommended to study the visual instructions with drawings that will help you correctly assemble and disassemble the snow scooter.

The first step is to install the motor between the guide brackets on the support (Fig. 2).

Further actions:

  1. Slide the chain onto the outer sprocket.
  2. Slide the engine back along the guides;
  3. Lift the adjusting bolt (Figure 3) and lower the screwdriver into the groove on the guide bar.

Turn the screwdriver until the deflection in the middle of the lower branch under a load of 3-5 kg is 10-15.

STEP TWO. ASSEMBLY OF FRAME, FORK AND HANDLEBAR

Place the seat in an upright position (Figure 4).

lift the arc from behind and place the frame on the trolley axle (Figure 5);

  • lower the arc from behind;
  • lift the screen, securing it between the arches under the seat;
  • lower the pommel;
  • Align the rear arch pins with the front arch holes and connect them (Figure 6).
  • lower the seat and fix it on the arches;
  • tilt the handlebar fork forward and slide it into the bar hooks (Figure 7).
  • tilt the handlebar fork back, lower the handlebar fork hook and tighten the thumbscrew;
  • Raise the handlebar to operating position and tighten the screw (Figure 8).

Guide the throttle cable through the snowmobile (Figure 9).

and connect it to the place next to the engine (Fig. 10)

Place the hood over the engine. When the engine is running, the starter handle should be under the hood.

STEP 3. CONNECTING THE IGNITION SWITCH

When connecting the ignition switch connector to the engine, align the lip on one post with the socket on the other connector.

STEP 4. MOUNTING SKIS

Note: The left and right skis should always be mounted on their specific side.

Insert the ski spacer into the steering fork (Figure 11).

Secure the ski with a lock (Figure 12).

The snowmobile is disassembled in the reverse order.

When you first look at the Husky snowmobile, you are left with a feeling of primitive design, but for example, for fishing, design comes last. We offer for viewing a small photo selection of the hero of our article.

Engine

The Husky motorized towing vehicle received a proven engine assembled from imported components. The unit is economical, and the snowmobile itself has a large range thanks to a 3.6-liter fuel tank. This volume is enough for a three-hour trip without worrying about additional refueling. The maximum speed is 24 km/h. The unit is adapted to increased loads and harsh climatic conditions. The engine is relatively quiet and almost does not overheat when driving at high speeds - largely thanks to the air cooling system. The engine starts instantly and runs properly in 30-degree frosts.

The power plant is a Ruslight 168 1-2-2 petrol unit, structurally similar to the Honda GX200 engine. Its power is 6.5 forces. In addition to the maximum speed of 24 km/h, there is also the possibility of a speed limit of 19 km/h (if using a traction sprocket).

    In its class (mini snowmobiles), the Husky is quite good and affordable. However, when purchasing a domestic manufacturer, it is worth remembering the inevitable modifications to the product: a casing on the hood (otherwise - icing of the starter), moving the stop button to the steering wheel, etc.

    Cheap and cheerful, this is how you can characterize this model, in comparison, for example, with Japanese models. But it has a right to exist, since in the remote outbacks, where there is a lot of snow in winter, and not everyone has the equipment, then such a snowmobile can be owned by specialists. services to call for emergency calls, because as said, no special management skills are required.

    Very useful article. Thanks to the author. His godson has been asking to buy a snowmobile for a long time, but it is still too small for large and powerful models, and storing it in an apartment is, to put it mildly, not very convenient. But the Husky is ideal for a 13-14 year old guy, plus the big advantage is quick assembly - disassembly and You don’t need a license for it, but big guys can ride if they want.

    Good afternoon I chose a snowmobile for fishing. This option is suitable: more or less cheap. Good thing it's easy to transport. I think that for fishing the weight of a snowmobile does not matter. This power should be enough to transport gear, catch and drunk partners. It seems that the design itself is quite simple, so that it can be repaired “on the spot,” and it seems that, due to its simplicity, it will still be reliable. I was also pleased with the fuel consumption when compared with the speed it achieves. And finally, the most important thing for me, as a person who doesn’t even have a driver’s license, is that he doesn’t need to be registered and undergo the GTO. Thanks to the author for the article, it really helped me decide. I think that such a snowmobile will be useful for anglers like me.

    Husky has been working for 4 years now. No serious damage or problems. Life suggested several improvements. 1. The throttle cable was inserted into a transparent plastic hose, well lubricated with silicone. The problem of the cable freezing went away. 2. It’s uncomfortable to keep your feet on the standard footrests. I attached plastic covers to the ends of the iron skis, this is much more convenient. Yes, and the skis can be lifted using the force of the legs when overcoming obstacles. 3. I turned off the oil level sensor because it turned off the engine when driving over uneven surfaces. You just need to check the oil level regularly. 4. I replaced the STOP button with a waterproof one and moved it under the cover on the engine. It’s easy to reach and it turned out to be an “anti-theft” 5. Above the engine I designed a quick-release seat from an Argamak snow scooter and footrests for the rider. A 50 kg rider easily fits, BUT the center of gravity has increased and you can easily fall on your side. But the cross-country ability has increased. 6. I attached wide sleeves from an old jacket to the steering wheel and now I put my hands in these “covers” and my hands don’t get cold!

Owner reviews

In the previous season he showed himself to be good. Sometimes, of course, it didn’t start the first time. I drove the original spark plug all season without any problems. A sleigh with a man pulls well. Recently I went into the garage and it started on the first try. Ladoga Gulf of Finland. Grade:

I liked the capacity of the original trunk for one night, everything will fit: a tent, a folding chair, a 5-liter gas cylinder, provisions, bait, fishing rods, etc. And if you’re going with a sleigh, you can generally pack enough gear for a week. I was very pleased to go fishing now and I don’t know how I can go without Husky. Grade:

Medvedev

In two seasons I haven't found any problems, everything runs without problems. You can’t go anywhere without the Husky; it travels through any terrain. Probably because you won’t find much of the powder on water bodies. Overall I was pleased with the purchase. Grade:

Fishlove,

I have only positive impressions from Husky. High-quality assembly of all parts. It assembles and assembles without problems. I rode around my reservoirs, no problem (Novocheboksarsk). It completely justified itself, but on the forums it was compared almost to a tank. And it was the snowmobile that justified itself. Grade:

Volodya Sh

I received the device and decided to try it out. I took my wife and loaded the sled. As usual, he walked very cheerfully. But when you moved a little to the side, it began to get bogged down or skid, and you could see that the sled was heavily loaded. The clutch was burned after all; they wrote on the forums that this was its weak point. But he completed his task. True, when you go overnight, take the engine in the tent for the night. Grade:

NeO

I have already been using Husky for 2 years. It only has its own technical characteristics, that is: do not climb into loose dirt and on a steep climb, do not sit on it at 5, so as not to drag it with you and swear. I sat on it alone, took everything I needed and went to have fun, no need to compare it with Kamaz. Grade:

I bought it not long ago. If you don’t read the forums where they compare it with full-fledged snowmobiles, then it is the best in its price segment. Performs the clearly assigned functions of bringing and taking back from fishing. Compact, easy to fold and unfold, fits in the car. Grade:

MAXsiniu

Ideal for going fishing in the winter or for a hiking trip. Suitable for areas where there are no seasons without snow. You can also buy it for a teenager, because it does not require any license or special skills, and the price for it is generally small compared to full-fledged snowmobiles.
