The Tula motorcycle is a unique Soviet off-road motorcycle. The bike can travel on any road and has a very unusual design with wide wheels. It was actively purchased by residents of villages for everyday trips. The high quality of the assembly is due to the fact that it was assembled at the military Tula Machine-Building Plant (TMZ).

The three-wheeled cargo bike is not particularly new to the transportation industry. Similar samples have been known since Soviet times (“Ant”, “Dnepr”, MT with a sidecar). However, modern modifications of domestic brands and foreign analogues have made a huge leap forward. First of all, this concerns the power unit, functionality and additional equipment.

Small equipment can be equipped with a flatbed or dump body, have a reinforced suspension on springs or be equipped with car tires. Variations with a cabin have been developed. The power of the power unit varies between 11-18 horsepower, and fuel consumption is about 3-5 liters per hundred kilometers.

Story

1984 – launch of production of Tula motorcycles at the Tula Machine-Building Plant named after Ryabikov (TMZ). This year, 200 motor vehicles were put on sale.

Interestingly, the plant did not have permission to produce motorcycles and therefore the designers had to install small wheels for scooters on the bike, which allowed Tula to move into the category of motor vehicles.

For almost 12 years, the plant produced 11,000 models per year, which were extremely popular among villagers, fishermen and hunters.

Tula motorcycles were produced from 1984 to 1996.

In 1993, Tula motorcycle production volumes decreased significantly. And in 1996 they stopped producing Tula altogether.

Cargo motorcycle "Ural"

The Ural Hercules tricycle is a modification of a heavy motorcycle designed to transport various loads. The technology performed well on any road surface. Moreover, the unit can transport loads of up to five hundred kilograms. The design features allow it to be used on construction sites, warehouses, shopping centers and in agriculture. Removable sides allow you to transport oversized materials. A category “C” license is not required to drive a vehicle.

The domestic cargo motorcycle has the following technical parameters:

  • suspension unit - telescopic design at the front and spring version at the rear.

In addition, the unit has a microprocessor ignition system and a cardan final drive.

Technical features of the model

The engine on the Tula motorcycle is a two-stroke engine, which uses gasoline as fuel (initially A-76 gasoline was recommended). For refueling, the traditional scheme of that time is used: gasoline is mixed with oil in a ratio of 33 to 1. At the heart of the fuel system is a K-62 carburetor.

On a flat asphalt surface, Tula accelerates to 85 kilometers per hour. In this case, fuel consumption ranges from 3.6 to 4 liters per 100 kilometers, depending on the position of the reed valve. The reserve reserve is approximately half a liter, with a fuel tank capacity of 11 liters.

The motorcycle was designed specifically for off-road riding and therefore has a suspension that has a telescopic fork installed at the front and a pendulum fork at the rear with shock absorbers. At the heart of the motorcycle is a steel tubular duplex (double) frame on which all the main elements are attached. Tires with tread have sizes 6,7 and 10, they provide good grip on the road surface while maintaining minimal ground pressure.

Thanks to the multi-disc oil bath clutch, the motorcycle starts smoothly. And the massive flywheel ensures stable operation at any speed. Also, the motorcycle engine quickly adapts to changes in load while riding.

The St. Petersburg company offered consumers a cargo-type tricycle called “Lifan.” The vehicle is an analogue of the Chinese version of the LF-200 ZH3. The equipment is designed for transporting small-sized cargo weighing up to 275 kilograms. The cargo motorcycle is equipped with a four-stroke gasoline engine with a displacement of 200 cubic centimeters and a power of seventeen “horses”. Modifications

Throughout its history, Tula has made three modifications:

TMZ-5.951, which weighed 129 kilograms, had a power of 12.5 hp and accelerated to 85 km/h. This model was produced for 6 years from 1984 to 1990.

TMZ-5.952 had a lightweight frame, which reduced the total weight by three kilograms. The power increased to 13 horsepower and with it the speed to 90 km/h. The model was also produced for about 6 years from 1990 to 1996.

TM3-5.971 is a 3-wheeled Tula motorcycle that was launched in 1992.

In fact, the Tula tricycle was a converted modification of the TMZ-5.952 model with a TMZ-9.906 cargo module. The designers strengthened the frame and made mounting points for the cargo module at the locations of the pendulum and rear shock absorbers. All connecting nodes were covered with plastic cladding.

Interestingly, the luggage areas have different widths and the track of the rear wheels is not symmetrical relative to the axis. However, during the tests it was found that this does not affect the movement in any way.
