The road motorcycle, which belongs to the middle class, under the designation IZH Planet 7, was produced by the Izhevsk Machine-Building Plant from 1987 to 2008. This motorcycle was a further development of the Planet 5 model.
Despite the limited selection of road motorcycles that existed at the start of production, which included the Minsk 125, Voskhod 3M models and, at a stretch, mopeds, which seemed to allow the manufacturer not to particularly strive for the perfection of its equipment, the IZH Planet 7 motorcycle was distinguished by the following advantages and benefits:
- individual interesting design;
- high-quality suspension;
- a fairly strong but economical engine;
- affordable cost;
- general reliability;
- high maintainability.
In addition, numerous owners of the seventh planet note its following advantages, such as a comfortable landing, predictable informative control, and high speed. The disadvantages of this model include:
- short service life of rear wheel bearings;
- low efficiency of air cooling in hot weather;
- certain shortcomings of factory assembly;
- weak traction characteristics for a trailer;
- periodically occurring engine vibration (typical of the IZH Planet 7.107 variant).
History of creation
The IZH Planet-7 bike became a continuation of one of the most popular series among domestic motorcycles. For a long time, the palm in this class was held by its predecessor under index 5.
Important design features of the car in question include the presence of a more comfortable seat with a pencil case, a significantly narrower fuel tank that makes it easier to get into, as well as updated optics and direction indicators. The designers also worked to improve the suspension, which made it more confident to hold the road regardless of the surface.
Technical parameters of the Planet
The great popularity of IZH Planet 7, in addition to its simple design, was due to its high-quality technical characteristics, the key among which are:

Competitors
On the domestic market there were several modifications of motorcycles in the same class, which were in direct competition with Planet-7:
- Iconic model of Czech production “Java-350-638”. The device was equipped with a 350-horsepower engine producing 26 “horses” with two cylinders.
- "Minsk-125". A lightweight motorcycle, known to the general public since Soviet times, it is practical, unpretentious in operation and maintenance.
- "Voskhod 3M". The well-known series from the plant in Kovrov, this line has received updates to almost all important components. Engine capacity – 175 cubic meters. cm.
History of IZH motorcycles
In 1929, on the basis of the Izhstal enterprise, it was decided to create experimental workshops, where 5 IZH motorcycles were produced.
The talented engineer P.V. Mazharov, who had previously completed an internship in Germany, was placed at the head of the team of craftsmen. It is he who can be called the godfather of the Soviet-made IZh motorcycle line.
Just a few months before the start of the motorcycle rally across the territory of the Soviet Union, engineers were able to develop five models of motorcycles to participate in it. The difference from existing models was the originality and uniqueness of the design of the devices on them.

Technical specifications. They used a V-shaped engine as a power plant, the volume of various variations of which was 500, 750 or 1200 cc. This model had a strong stamped chain frame that served as a muffler. All 5 created units took part in the all-Union motor rally, which took place from September to October 1929.
An interesting fact is that already in their first run the motorcycles were able to easily cover a distance of 3 thousand kilometers. A short time later, Mazharov moved to Leningrad, where he began developing a new model, called the L300.
The success of the motorcycle creator led to the model attracting the attention of members of the Council of People's Commissars. But it was decided to begin the construction of the enterprise in Izhevsk, since Stalin himself insisted on this. The future enterprise was given the name “Experimental Motorcycle Plant.”
Already in 1933, the first models of PMZ A 750 motorcycles were assembled on it.
IZH7. The production of this motorcycle was launched in the same year. It was an almost exact copy of the L300 motorcycle. It used a 300 cc two-stroke engine as a power plant. cm, and a three-speed gearbox. Subsequently, the IZH-8 and IZH-9 models were released, the feature of which was increased power to 8, and then to 13.5 hp.

Golden years. After the end of World War II, in the 50-60s, the golden era of motorcycle production at the Izhevsk plant began. The IZH 49 was produced, which became the most popular model of Soviet youth, and later the IZH 50, IZH 54 and IZH 55. Starting in 1962, the production of the IZH Jupiter and IZH Planet models began, the total number of units produced was about 7 million things. New solutions from the designers made it possible to almost double the service life of the power plant, as well as overall reliability.
IZH-Planet 5
In the 70s, the models IZH Planet 2, IZH, Planet-3, IZH Jupiter -2 and IZH Jupiter -3 appeared. Later, the first sports motorcycle, Planet Sport, came off the assembly line and received legendary status. The total volume of motorcycles produced exceeds 250 thousand per year.

Conclusion. For the IL model, this period became the beginning of a crisis, the manifestation of which only intensified in the 80s, when the plant could no longer compete with the growing auto industry. In 90-2000, the enterprise’s crisis only dragged on, and in 2009 it was finally declared bankrupt.
Owner reviews
Consumer responses to the motorcycle in question vary. Among the advantages, many owners highlight the affordable cost, acceptable fuel consumption, sufficient power, attractive design and high level of maintainability. Despite its rather impressive dimensions, the bike is quite suitable for beginners and girls.
Opponents claim that IZH Planet-7 has absorbed most of the problematic “moments” from its predecessors. Among the disadvantages are unreliable brakes, angularity, and lack of power when using a trailer. In addition, users complain about the unreliable operation of the electronic ignition and rapid oil consumption.
Advantages and disadvantages
The IZH Planeta-7 motorcycle had a number of advantages over its predecessor and most other domestic analogues in this category. These include:
- Original design of the exterior.
- Informative high-quality suspension.
- The engine combines sufficient power and efficiency.
- Reasonable cost compared to foreign competitors.
- Reliability and durability of most components.
- High maintainability rate and availability of spare parts.

Our life consists of everyday little things that in one way or another affect our well-being, mood and productivity. I didn’t get enough sleep - my head hurts; I drank coffee to improve the situation and cheer myself up - I became irritable. I really want to foresee everything, but I just can’t. Moreover, everyone around, as usual, gives advice: gluten in bread - don’t go near it, it will kill you; A chocolate bar in your pocket is a direct path to tooth loss. We collect the most popular questions about health, nutrition, diseases and give answers to them that will allow you to better understand what is good for your health.
Main units of IZH
The design of the IZH Planet 7 motorcycle is traditional for medium-sized road models and consists of the following units and devices:
- Engine. Clutch.
- Transmission.
- Muffler.
- Frame.
- Generator.
Such a fairly simple design of the motorcycle, a large number of spare parts, and fairly broad unification with the previous generation IZH Planet 5 allowed owners to carry out repair work on their own if necessary.
In addition, for reliable operation of these units and, as a consequence, long-term operation of the entire motorcycle, it was necessary to perform maintenance in accordance with the manufacturer’s standards: daily - before departure, TO-1 - after 3 thousand km, TO-2 - every 6 thousand km .

The photo of the motorcycle you see can fascinate at first sight. And the technical data will please you with the use of a very powerful four-stroke engine with four valves. Despite the fact that the engine displacement was significantly reduced in comparison with earlier IzhMash models, the power indicators of the motorcycle were not affected. With twenty horses, the bike is capable of reaching a serious maximum speed of 120 km. at one o'clock. The Seventh Planet is picking up speed pretty quickly. And the endurance of the engine will please you, since the power unit overheats quite rarely (even in hot summer weather).
Among other features of Planet 7
generation, a number of innovations can be identified that facilitate the operation of two-wheelers. The motorcycle is equipped with an electric starter for more comfortable starting of the engine. Interestingly, a weak or missing battery will not be an obstacle to using this iron horse. The cost of the bike is also relatively low. It is quite capable of competing with its Chinese counterparts in this indicator. In general, reviews of the motorcycle are quite good. This two-wheeler is considered the most reliable, as well as easy to maintain and operate, domestic single-cylinder motorcycle.
A small excursion into history. I remember in the shaggy year of 2007 or 2008, I was picking up a motorcycle for myself, sitting on the website of the IZhmoto plant and licking my lips at the photos of the 4-stroke Planet 7. And then the plant closed and I bought an EBRik.
And recently, in another attack of love for the classics, several articles about the Izhevsk Planet 7 caught my eye. I noticed that in most of the articles, although the Izhevsk motorcycle is described, half of the photos have a different engine (hello to the Lifanovods!). The authors don’t see the difference and shove the first Google images they come across. Let's clarify this issue.
Original photos from the factory website against the backdrop of a red brick wall (as I remember right now, I was already in tears)
I’ve never owned an IZH, but the keen eye of a sofa expert caught the main differences: 1. The original has a Suzuki GN 250 4-stroke engine, SOHC 4-valve, 22 horses (somewhere they say 20), 19 Nm, dual exhaust . The declared 120 should go. Starter is front right. For some reason, I always thought that the engine was Yamaha, but I couldn’t find which one, and then I spotted a familiar crankcase on the Suzuki TU 250 (and on the Baltmotors BM250DD - the Chinese at the QingQi plant also copied this engine in their QM250GY), only the cylinder was there the other, with round ribs. I started digging deeper in time and unearthed photos of the GN250 (it seems like the same motor was used on the 250 Marauder).
