Do-it-yourself Delta moped tuning at minimal cost

The Delta moped is widely used in many countries around the world. Its popularity among different segments of the population is associated with the low cost of the moped itself, high performance characteristics, and ease of maintenance. Most owners carry out repairs on the Delta moped with their own hands, without the help of qualified specialists. The simplicity of the design does not require a large amount of knowledge in this area.

Volume expansion

The starting volume of the engine can be increased up to 110 cubic centimeters. At the same time, you need to understand that such a decision will lead to the need to register your vehicle. But it’s worth it, because the engine will begin to behave an order of magnitude more powerful and dynamic. In addition, when tuning a moped, it is also worth replacing the low-quality pistons that come with the kit. This will also have a positive effect on the operation of the engine. Thanks to the new engine, you can significantly increase the speed of your model. In fact, the Alfa will turn into a real motorcycle, and will not be a compact moped.

When replacing a cylinder, you can use components from Delta or Active. On the other hand, then you will have to change not only the cylinder, but also the crankshaft, chains, seals, rollers and, quite likely, even the carburetor.

Start

The most difficult element for a beginner motorcyclist. Shift the gearbox to neutral. Make sure your elbows are bent and your center of gravity is forward. Depress the clutch. Engage first gear. From idle speed, smoothly release the clutch handle while raising the speed. If your motorcycle is equipped with a clutch lever position sensor (for example, Suzuki fuel-injected motorcycles), then you may notice how when starting from neutral the motorcycle itself adds speed - making it easier to start. Do not drop the clutch lever. Once you have mastered the soft start, you can learn to start faster. The principle of a fast start is the same as for a slow one - you load the front, your arms are bent, but the start does not start from idle speed, but from rpm from 4000 to 8000. The optimal start for a beginner in the city is to start from 3000 rpm. When starting, we recommend keeping your right foot on the rear brake - if you miscalculated the speed and the motorcycle begins to climb onto the rear wheel, use the rear brake. Often, we start where we end. Traction control when starting a motorcycle, using the rear brake, is widely used by riders when starting a motorcycle in world championships.

What is the benchmark - what is the fastest start. The fastest start is when you lie on the tank and throughout the entire acceleration line your wheel is torn off by 0.5 - 1 cm from the ground level. Taking into account bumps, this element is quite complex and, often, for its practical implementation, electronics are installed in motorcycles that control the unloading of the front wheel. On motorcycles equipped with a quick start, you can start with the throttle fully open; the electronics analyze the load on the front fork and automatically turn off the ignition as the fork becomes too unloaded. From the pilot's point of view, it looks like this: you load the front, lie down on the tank, fully unscrew the throttle and practically drop the clutch - the electronics do the rest. 99% of motorcycles are not equipped with a quick start and the pilot has to do the electronic work.

The main criterion for a successful start in the city is constant engine speed as the clutch releases. As you release the clutch, the revs begin to drop and you should try to keep the engine revs constant by opening the throttle at the same time as releasing the clutch. If you managed to do this, you can move on to the next step - reducing the clutch release time. After this exercise has begun to work out, try starting at high speeds, loading the front.

External tuning

Tuning a moped can concern both the appearance and the replacement of some elements. The most popular way to increase speed is to replace the sprocket. By replacing the sprocket from 14 to 15 or 16, the speed will increase by 7-10 km/h.

But it should be remembered that the more teeth, the more traction the moped requires. Both the front and rear sprockets should be changed at the same time.

Tuning may also involve adding additional elements, for example, a tool bag or some kind of stand. Many people complain about the Alpha’s uncomfortable seat.

Nothing prevents you from replacing it with a more comfortable one. Replacing headlights or turn signals will change the appearance of the moped, and applying airbrushing to the tank will make it unique and inimitable. You can also replace the muffler and redo the mirror system. In general, the basic configuration has a lot of room for improvement.

Many Alpha owners do not stop there and move on. Engine tuning is more complex and expensive.

What you might need

In order to make a homemade moped, you first need to decide on the parts that will be used during assembly. In most cases, the basis of the design is an unnecessary bicycle. You immediately need to think about where all the details will be placed. The most cumbersome of them is the engine. It is usually located in the rear trunk or at the bottom of the frame. If the frame has such a structure that placing the engine will create inconvenience when moving the moped, then it can be made separately. This will require welding work. The frame should be made from bicycle parts that are specially designed for the appropriate load. If necessary, you can change the geometry of the desired part. For this, a stop is used and the use of water pipes is strictly prohibited, since they do not have sufficient strength. Such a homemade moped will not go far. Engine mounts can be cut from sheets of iron with a thickness of at least 5 mm and welded to the frame.

Alfa moped engine tuning

Tuning a moped engine begins with increasing the cylinder capacity. Replacing 50 cc with 70 cc will allow you to get a significant increase in power. In addition to replacing the cylinder, you will have to replace the carburetor, pistons and cylinder head. Despite the fact that the parts are basically unified, when selecting new cylinders, it is worth making the appropriate measurements.

The sequence of actions will be as follows:

First you need to decide on the parameters of the new cylinders and purchase parts. The engine must be cleaned before installing new parts.

Particular attention should be paid to the upper horizontal surface. When disassembling the timing belt and CPG, all elements should be placed in separate boxes so that nothing is mixed up later. You should be very careful when setting the valve timing. Incorrect installation will not only prevent the engine from starting, but can also lead to irreparable damage to parts.

To do this, you should pay attention to all marks without exception. The inscription "intake" on the new piston should be at the top. It is necessary to lubricate the piston, pin, rings well with oil. The cylinder is initially degreased and the piston is placed in the ring. Then the piston rings are cut apart.

The rest of the assembly is done in the opposite order to how the engine was disassembled.

You should remember about the guide bushings of different lengths and the installation of new rubber rings. You should also make sure that the chain is positioned correctly. Upon completion of all work, new oil should be added.

Main malfunctions in the operation of the Delta moped

Often, repair of a Delta moped is limited to replacing rings and piston , rebuilding the gearbox and adjusting the valve clearance.

The four-stroke engine is characterized by certain difficulties in repair, but it has such characteristics as durability, economy, and good power.

It also bears loads quite easily. Debugging the Delta moped clutch is performed if slippage or incomplete engagement of the clutch is observed. When repairing an engine, remember the disassembly procedure. Provided that most elements are worn out a lot, it is easier to buy a new one.

Repair of the Delta moped engine is carried out in the following cases:

First of all, you need to check the presence of gasoline in the tank, the presence of a spark and whether the generator is working. All actions are performed sequentially. After making sure that the cause is not fuel, we check for the presence of a spark. If there is a spark, we check other parts that could lead to engine failure.

If all the reasons that affect the operation of the engine have been eliminated, but you still cannot start, a more in-depth repair is necessary.

Engine repair consists of the following actions:

Disassembling the Delta moped engine, as well as reassembling the Delta moped engine, must be performed in the correct sequence.

In addition, the engine may not start if the carburetor is not functioning normally . Most carburetor problems can be solved by flushing it. After flushing the carburetor, to prevent future problems, it is necessary to check the ratio of oil and gasoline that enters the carburetor.

If the mixture is too rich or too lean, the main components will wear out, so the ratio must be set in accordance with regulatory requirements. Repair of the Delta moped engine is presented in the video. Watching the video will allow you to become more familiar with the repair process.

Delta tuning

The first reason for tuning is poor assembly of parts. Of course, the materials themselves do not cause any complaints, but the assembly, tightening of bolts and gaskets leave much to be desired. Therefore, before starting operation, you need to spend a little time checking the fasteners and possibly replacing them. A similar action is performed with gaskets. It’s difficult to call this a full-fledged tuning, but it’s still an improvement of the moped.

The second most common tuning item is increasing the fuel tank. This action can already be called a full-fledged delta upgrade. Since the moped is designed for 2 passengers of average build or a driver with a load, a basket for things is installed on the frame in front of the seat. Behind the driver's seat is the passenger's seat.

There are 2 options for changing the moped, each of which will be considered:

  1. The basket is removed from the frame and an enlarged tank is attached in its place. A standard tank is enough for a little over 200 km. However, an additional mounted tank solves this problem. In this case, the passenger seat remains. Thus, the delta can only transport people.
  2. The second option is similar to the first. The tank is attached in the same way, but the passenger seat is removed and a net for things is put in its place. It turns out to be a convenient vehicle for one person with the ability to transport small loads.

These changes are not complicated. Anyone can do such tuning of a delta moped with their own hands. But there are also more complex options for changing the technical and visual characteristics of a two-wheeled horse, allowing you to discover new sides in it.

Delta moped - review, repair, tuning

Many of us still have it in the garage, and it’s even usable. I note that this moped has absolutely nothing to do with modern Chinese-made models. And we will also look at the main differences.

First, let's test the first option, and then the new four-stroke Delta moped made in China. So, here it is, the pride of Soviet youth and one of the most popular mopeds of former socialism, the Delta moped made in the USSR:

In the village, he was an indispensable assistant and a kind of designer, because he broke down more often than he drove, and the developers are to blame for this, of course. But skillful hands always found a way out.

As additional styling on the delta moped, a windshield, arches, wind protection and simply a headlight frame were often used.

Tuning a Delta moped made in the USSR

Tuning a Delta moped consists only of replacing the rear sprocket, but this is not recommended, and without this the weak dynamics disappear completely, and you will have to work with your legs at the start, but this also has a plus, your legs will always be subject to physical stress. Although this cannot be ruled out in the other option, you will also often have to start the delta moped from the “pusher”, and this was normal at one time. But in return, if your piston is not worn out, you will probably get an increase of 10 km per hour, which is very little.

Engine tuning can be eliminated altogether; practically no one has done this due to its inexpediency. With proper running-in, a delta moped can be accelerated to 60 kilometers per hour, sometimes up to 65, but this happens extremely rarely. Two gears frankly do not cope with their task, and the device feels insecure throughout the entire acceleration, and it can be a stretch to call it acceleration; it is a sluggish increase in speed.

At one time, it was fashionable to raise the front fender, while the moped somehow resembled cross-country motorcycles, and it was cool, young people felt like real bikers, and frankly speaking, this was enough for many, since mopedists of that time were not spoiled by the technology that we can observe now, with a maximum speed of one hundred kilometers per hour.

Tuning can also include replacing the original tires with studded ones like this.

These tires hold up well in dirt and are suitable for use in the winter.

I advise you to forget and not remember about the rest of the tuning, you will only waste time, money, nerves, and then the moped will soon simply not want to work, without showing you an increase in dynamics and speed.

Repair of Delta moped made in the USSR

The basis of all the repairs of this device, of course, was the engine, it broke down very often, these were the rings, the piston, the clutch and much more. The owners of these mopeds fixed any malfunctions almost every day and ideally knew every bolt, of course there are positive aspects to this, you learned how to repair yourself.

The V-50 engine that was on the Karpaty moped was installed here, absolutely identical. Since I published the entire process of repairing such an engine in the article “Repairing a moped in the Carpathians,” I see no point in repeating it in this article.

Technical characteristics of the old-style Delta moped

— Displacement: 49.8 cm — Maximum power: 1.8 hp — Weight: 55 kg — Load: no more than 100 kg — Maximum speed: 60 km/h — Tank volume: 5 liters — Electronic ignition

At one time, the production of the Delta Afra moped was also established based on the old copy, but with more modern characteristics. This moped never gained popularity for a number of reasons and production was discontinued.

The new product had an elegant appearance and some semblance of a plastic cladding, new fenders, a headlight fairing, and a muffler. The trunk was cut down. An important difference was the snow-white alloy wheels.

Tuning features

The topic related to Alpha tuning is quite common, since there are many ways to improve the quality of this moped. At the same time, the cost of modernization will be an order of magnitude lower than in the case of a similar Chinese scooter. After all, Alpha is made quite simply, so access to the power unit and external elements is as convenient as possible.

The model can be improved in various directions, so before starting work you need to decide on the qualities that you want to change. Another important nuance is that you should understand the difference between styling and tuning. The first involves solely changing the appearance, while the second option also affects the functional parameters of the vehicle.

In addition, many see tuning an Alpha moped not just as a task to improve certain characteristics, but also as a real hobby that can keep the owner busy. There are many improvement options, and you can also use your own ideas that optimize the functionality of the device. Now we will focus on each specific area.

Video review of the Alpha moped:

Green, pink, yellow, blue and black-red wires

Please note that this wiring diagram is suitable for the vast majority of mopeds from Chinese brands. Moreover, it does not matter where exactly the vehicle was assembled. The same "Alpha" is assembled at 4 - 5 factories in the People's Republic of China and at a couple more enterprises in the Russian Federation. However, the design of Alpha motorcycle equipment produced at different production facilities will not differ.

All wires (pink, yellow, black-red, blue, green and others, because the diagram shows 17 shades) will be in the same places. And the connection will be carried out strictly in accordance with the instructions.

How to speed up an alpha moped?

The easiest, but also most expensive way to accelerate a moped from 72 cc to more than a hundred is to install a 110 cc engine.

Another option is to remake the original one, for which you buy a 110 cc piston group, a set of gaskets for the cylinder-piston group, a cylinder head from 110 cc mopeds. In addition to Alpha, this is also Delta or Zodiac.

You can also increase the speed by replacing the sprockets. Instead of a 14-teeth front, you put 16 teeth and you get a speed increase of up to 10 km/h. True, this will reduce traction. If you set it to 17, the speed can increase to 13 km/h. The best option is to put a sprocket on 15 teeth.

You can also replace the switch. You need a switch with an ignition timing generator (IAF). But there are none on Alpha. If you don’t really understand electronics, you can skip this option. If it’s Kulibin, you can do it yourself. Or find a Chinese tuning switch for a 4-stroke scooter. But then you have to tinker with the connection.

Do you need an alpha moped license?

Since 2013, small vehicles have appeared on the list of vehicles that require a special driving license to use. Every owner of a moped up to 50cc must obtain a license for a scooter. In addition, this list includes vehicles:

developing a speed of no more than 50 km/h;

having an electric motor (power 0.25 - 4 kW);

equipped with an engine with a volume of up to 50 cubic meters.

6 Good answer

Will there be weak traction on the alpha moped during break-in?

If you take care of your moped, give it rest and don't stress it one hundred percent, it won't have weak traction for very long. Actually, the theme here is how you are to the device, and it is to you.

How long will a person who smokes Alpha PVP live?

Thanks for your question, Bogdan. Alpha PVP is a heavy synthetic drug that has a stimulating effect on the central nervous system. It is characterized by accessibility, which determines its distribution and active use. Alpha PVP quickly becomes addictive, and exceeding the maximum single dosage inevitably leads to death.

The effects of using Alpha PVP can be noticed after just a few doses of the crystalline drug. This is due to a strong destructive effect on the cellular structures of internal organs. Drug use can cause the following complications:

– gradual destruction of brain cells, which leads to a decrease in intelligence and memory impairment;

– destruction of muscle fibers of internal organs;

– decreased elasticity of vascular walls, impaired blood clotting, blockage of lumens with blood clots and cholesterol plaques causes heart attacks and strokes;

– renal and liver failure when their functions are impaired as a result of prolonged accumulation of Alpha PVP metabolites and toxins in organs;

– increased risk of infection with diseases that are transmitted hematologically – herpes, HIV, syphilis;

– deep paranoia;

– severe mental disorders;

A decrease in the severity of the effects forces the addict to gradually increase the single dosage of the drug. A fatal overdose can occur with a single dose of the following dosages:

– intranasally – more than 100 mg;

– orally – more than 120-150 mg;

– intravenously – more than 50 mg;

– inhalation – more than 20 mg;

Overdose symptoms always occur quickly. Lack of medical intervention causes cerebral edema, stroke, cessation of respiratory activity or cardiac muscle function.

Life expectancy when using Alpha PVP is individual for each person and depends on the following factors:

– general state of human health;

– speed of metabolic processes;

– method of introducing a psychostimulant into the body;

– combinations of drugs with other drugs, alcohol, medications.

Chinese mopeds

Single platform models

Today's realities are such that you can no longer see domestic models on public roads.

Times are changing, and the weakened banner of freedom from the hands of the domestic “Carpathians” and “Verkhovyna” was picked up by Chinese mopeds of the following series:

Let us state a fact: products from China have become widespread in the domestic motorcycle market.

  • Alpha;
  • Delta (DELTA);
  • Dino;
  • Irbis;
  • Viper (VIPER);
  • Zip Star;
  • Leader;
  • Mustang;
  • Breeze;
  • Dingo;

And other similar models, equipped with everything necessary for travel. These are all Delta “co-platforms” produced by the Chinese manufacturer Chongqing Wonjan motorcycle and the companies that bought a license from it.

For reference: It should be noted that Chinese technology has significantly displaced the products of domestic motorcycle manufacturers on the Russian market. This is noticeable not only in the form of finished products, but also in all kinds of components. For example, the Kovrov Motor Plant abandoned its own production of power units and installed the Lifan engine on its models.

Similarity of design

It is noteworthy that the electrical wiring of the Delta moped is similar to other models, which facilitates maintenance and increases the popularity of the vehicles.

Although seemingly complex at first glance, the electrical connection diagram is quite traditional.

Note! The photo above shows the wiring diagram for a Delta moped that does not have a tachometer on the instrument panel. It is identical for all models of this manufacturer, and differs only in the control of the semi-automatic transmission (Delta Racer model).

The video in this article will provide information regarding maintenance of similar models. For products with an instrument panel containing a tachometer, we publish part of the diagram, which also has differences in the controls. In this case, the wiring for the Delta moped is supplemented with several elements for connection.

How to change gears on a motorcycle correctly

All movements you make with the pedals must be smooth so as not to damage the transmission.

When changing gears, change one speed at a time. It is not advisable to jump.

To understand how to change gears on a motorcycle, you need to carefully study the controls. There are motorcycles with manual transmission and semi-automatic.

Method one

Motorcycles with manual transmission. All actions in this case occur in the following sequence. Pick up speed. Take off the gas. Engage the clutch. Press the gear shift pedal. Release the clutch, then the shift pedal and add gas.

To start the motorcycle, place it in neutral. After this, remove the gas and squeeze the clutch, at the same time turning on first gear. Taking your foot off the gear pedal, apply gas and release the clutch. Now add gas.

To upshift, you need to lift the gas, engage the clutch and press the gearshift pedal. After this, release the clutch, release the shift pedal and add gas.

To downshift, you need to remove the gas and engage the clutch. After this, sharply add gas, and when the speed begins to drop, press the gearshift pedal. Release the clutch and shift pedal and add gas. Once the motorcycle has stopped, be sure to put it in neutral.

Method two

Motorcycles with semi-automatic transmission. On these motorcycles, gear shifting is easier. Take off the gas and change gears. The clutch and gearbox are connected here.

Before starting the engine, place your bike in neutral. In order to engage first gear, you need to remove the gas and press the gear lever down. To increase the gear, you need to remove the gas and lift the gear lever up. To downshift, on the contrary, you need to apply gas and immediately remove your hand from the gas. When the speed starts to drop, change the speed and add gas. Now you know how to change gears on a motorcycle.

Photo report: Assembly of the gearbox (box) of the “Ant” scooter

After completely disassembling the engine of the Ant scooter, many, especially beginners, have difficulty reassembling the gearbox, and this is not surprising. There is very little reference information, there are too many “ant” experts, the matter is further complicated by the fact that there are no marks on the gearbox parts that greatly simplify the work on the correct orientation of the gearbox parts relative to each other.

In fact, everything is not as complicated as it might seem at first glance...

The gearbox, after disassembling the engine and troubleshooting the parts, turned out to be in very good condition; only one gear of the first gear had to be replaced (extreme wear of the bushing and, as a consequence, increased backlash of the gear on the shaft) and all the bearings (due to severe wear). All other gearbox parts were checked for wear and so on without any problems. Complete disassembly of the “ant” engine is described in detail in the article: Photo report: Disassembling the engine of the “Ant” scooter

Before assembling the gearbox, we carefully wash all the parts from dirt, pay special attention to the engine crankcase and the condition of the threaded connections, buy a new set of oil seals and gaskets (preferably made of paronite). The general principles of engine crankcase repair are described in detail in the article: Photo report: Repairing a scooter engine crankcase

And so, the right half of the crankcase is completely washed, laid on wooden blocks and is completely ready for the introduction of our gearbox into it.

We insert the retaining ring into the mounting hole of the secondary shaft bearing.

Using a mandrel, install the bearings into their mounting holes. Don't forget to place a special washer under the input shaft bearing.

We check the performance of the copier, for this: we press on it with a screwdriver or a finger and release it - several times, there should be no jamming or excessive play in its operation, the working surface should be strictly in the form of a cone (not “slicked”).

We carefully inspect the teeth of the “pawl” of the gear shift mechanism; there should be no cracks, chips, or wear. The teeth should be sharp (not “slick”).

Delta characteristics

To begin with, it’s worth saying a little about the characteristics of the moped, the time of its appearance and its intended purpose. Delta appeared on our market only 10 years ago. The Chinese miracle quickly gained recognition among wide sections of the population. This happened thanks to the price-quality ratio, however, like other factory goods from the Middle Kingdom.

At the start of sales, the price of delta was 2-3 thousand rubles. But the characteristics for such a price were amazing. The moped accelerated to 60-70 km/h, consumed 1.5 liters per hundred km and had a load capacity of 120 kg, although it weighed 2 times less.

There were, and are, a couple of shortcomings inherent in this model, and tuning of the delta moped began with them.

Features of electrical equipment

The wiring to the Delta and all electrical equipment is quite traditional.

It consists of:

  • generator with flywheel;
  • electric starter (with relay);
  • ignition coils;
  • electronic voltage relay;
  • spark plug;
  • battery;
  • electronic switch;
  • ignition switch;
  • turn relay.

This list is quite understandable to most motorists who have experience in servicing domestic equipment. Moreover, the wiring of the Delta moped is traditional - 12-volt, with a minus to ground.

Muffler for homemade walk-behind tractor

Muffler drawing

1 — outlet pipe (from the Minsk motorcycle);

2 — bracket (St3, strip with a section of 20×5);

3 — flange (Steel 25);

4 — fasteners (M4 screw, 6 pcs.);

5 — body (from the Minsk motorcycle);

6 — gas passage pipe (a piece of pipe from the Ural bicycle frame) with 4 gas passages and 4 mounting holes;

7 - plug (Steel 25).

The muffler for the homemade walk-behind tractor based on the Minsk motorcycle was also made by hand. The body was the pipe of a standard muffler. The rolled end of this pipe was straightened using a piece of pipe used as a template. Also, to reduce noise pollution, an insert with an outlet tube was used, made by hand. Screws marked M 4 were used as fasteners.

The driver's former right footrest served well to support the outlet pipe. To do this, a bracket was attached to this step by welding, and a hole with a diameter of eight millimeters was drilled in it. The dimensions of the bracket and its location in relation to the outlet pipe were adjusted to the location.

Appearance

And if tuning a moped with an engine may seem too boring, then by transforming the appearance of the “Alpha”, everything becomes much more interesting. In fact, if you are going to make a really decent tuning, then you can’t do without imagination

It is important to imagine the future appearance of the moped - what colors it will be decorated in, what character it will have, aggressive or classic. Make a few sketches, and then you will get a more interesting result.

We will tell you what can be added and modified.

The first, and most common thing, when you are tuning an alpha moped is updating the rear view mirrors. The factory mirrors on the Alpha moped look quite sad, so you can buy new ones. A good idea would be to install mirrors with turn signals, which will not only improve the appearance of the moped, but also make the mirrors more practical.

Speaking of turn signals, the turn signals on the Alpha moped are quite small, although they shine well. There is nothing stopping you from updating them, for example, painting them, changing the light bulb to a brighter one, or simply buying new turn signals. The same applies to the brake light and headlight.

Some people prefer to replace the disks with more interesting ones. Of course, buying and installing new discs is not the easiest option, but the result will be much more noticeable than, for example, replacing turn signals. In general, the wheels of a moped play an important role in the appearance, so if you choose some unusual wheels, the result can be a completely new look.

What does the market offer?

Having wandered a little around motorcycle stores, you can find zero-resistance filters that have become popular recently. Such a small trinket also adds some zest to the alpha moped. In addition to appearance, it also improves the technical parameters of the engine. If you install such a filter on an alpha moped, the engine will receive more air, which means it breathes better. This gives some power gain, but you probably won't notice it.

Complete repainting will help to radically update and make high-quality tuning of the alpha moped. In the case of the Alpha, we have chrome fenders, a trunk, a steering wheel and some other elements that make no sense to repaint. The only color that would look good when repainting these elements is matte black or, in general, pasting with liquid rubber. By choosing a good color scheme, you can improve the appearance of the moped for the better.

A moped is a convenient means of transportation. It consumes little fuel, is easy to maintain and does not take up much space. A prominent representative of this type of transport is the delta moped. However, only delta tuning gives it a unique look and great power.

Other options

In addition to the above method, you can increase the performance of a moped such as its power and speed using other tricks. For example, you can increase the power of your scooter by replacing the muffler, replacing it with a compatible resonant pipe, and tuning the transmission.

You can also choose a sports variator for your scooter and install a reinforced belt.

If you don't know how to further increase the power of your moped, try replacing the standard exhaust pipe with a sports one. With its help, you will increase the power of the scooter by up to 15%, increasing the maximum speed. Finally, replace regular brakes with disc brakes, standard brake pads with sports brake pads, and select brake hoses with reinforcement.

After all the work involved in trying to increase the speed and power of the scooter, do not forget about your safety and the safety of other road users. If you doubt the correctness of your modifications to the moped, contact the service, where they will give you practical advice or carry out a set of improvements yourself. Remember that your life may depend on the quality of work to increase the power and speed of equipment.

Instructions for the Alpha 50cc moped and its technical characteristics

Being a typical representative of the Chinese automobile industry, the Alpha 50 cc moped, the instructions for which are given below, is distinguished by its affordable price and excellent driving performance. There are certain shortcomings that inevitably arise in any technology, but this specimen is not a rare guest on the roads of our country. For this reason, familiarization with it and its technical parameters will be very important.

Stages of assembling an ATV

To create a homemade ATV with your own hands, you need to go through 9 stages of work step by step:

  1. Acquisition and preparation of everything necessary;
  2. Welding (alteration) of the frame;
  3. Installation of suspensions, brakes, chassis, shock absorbers, wheels;
  4. Installation of engine, gearbox, drive assembly;
  5. Installation of the fuel system;
  6. Installation of electrical equipment - turn signals, headlights, dashboard, battery;
  7. Case manufacturing;
  8. Priming, sanding and painting the body, (if desired) sophisticated custom tuning;
  9. Installation of the body and seat.

After the final stage, the finished miracle of home-made equipment will need to be thoroughly tested, gradually making road (and off-road) conditions more difficult.

Shifting up gears with clutch

To understand the upshift technique, perform the following experiment. Drive in second gear with the throttle slightly turned off. Now, without closing the gas handle - squeeze the clutch - you will see how the revolutions instantly rise. Close the throttle. When the load in the form of the rear wheel disappears, nothing prevents the engine from spinning up and the speed increases rapidly. That is why speed in gear shifting plays an important role. If you shift quickly, then you may not close the throttle; at the moment when the clutch is depressed, the speed rises and immediately the gear shifts up and the clutch returns. If you do this quickly, then the revolutions rise by only 1000-1500 to provide optimal conditions for upshifting with the clutch.

To change gears up with the clutch, you need to quickly squeeze the clutch, shift up and release the clutch so that the revolutions at which the next gear is engaged do not exceed the revolutions of the gear from which you are shifting by more than 1500. If you do this slowly, you need to close the throttle at the moment when the clutch is depressed, if quickly, you can hold the handle in the same position or barely close the handle. An important criterion is the speed at which you started shifting up and the difference between the speed at which you depressed the clutch and at which you released the clutch - the difference should not exceed 1000 - 1500 revolutions. With practice, gear shifting will become automatic and will not require attention.

Electrical equipment maintenance

What can overshadow the operation of a moped is its unpredictable breakdown. And although the manufacturer uses a fairly proven operating diagram for the main components and assemblies, nevertheless, failures in the operation of one or another electronic equipment are possible. (see also the article Features of wiring an Alpha moped)

Wiring to Delta requires attention to connectors and terminals

To avoid this, the owner is required to carry out scheduled technical inspections according to the manufacturer’s recommended periods (based on mileage):

  1. Every 1500 km check and clean the spark plugs;
  2. Every 800-1000 km, check the condition of the rear brake light (electrical connectors and the functionality of the incandescent lamp);
  3. At the same frequency, check the operation of the head light (if the mileage is less, then at least once a month);
  4. The condition of the battery terminals should be checked weekly.

Such close attention to electrical equipment is due to the fact that when driving a moped, the low beam headlights must be constantly on. This causes increased wear and tear on all elements of the electrical system. The wiring on the Delta moped also requires attention - the quality of its connectors and connections leaves much to be desired.

Tuning of external parts

By improving the external parameters, you can improve not only the aesthetic appearance of the Alpha moped, but also increase its aerodynamic performance and make movement more comfortable. The following is usually used for tuning external elements:

  • Replacing the seat with a wider and more comfortable one.
  • Installing protective panels will help prevent leg fractures and protect them from damage.
  • Replacing the wheels with wider ones will increase the stability of the moped. This is especially true when replacing an engine.
  • Installing a windshield helps improve travel comfort. But at a speed of more than 40 km/h it already begins to affect the aerodynamics of the moped.
  • Replacing disks has a more decorative meaning. The standard wheels on the Alpha are also quite drivable.
  • Replacing the plug. If the Alpha moped will be used to travel on uneven roads, for example, in the forest or outside the city, you can replace the forks. Strengthening the shock absorbers helps soften the load on the wheel.
  • Replacing LEDs can also be a great solution. You should not use xenon diodes, as they will dazzle drivers and will not be better in terms of lighting quality than conventional ones.

If desired, tuning can be completed by styling the moped by performing airbrushing or changing the color of the body. An excellent solution to highlight a moped would be to install LEDs under the fenders or on protective panels.

Tuning an Alpha moped is a very rewarding activity that can captivate the owner in the direction of improving his model. Design and assembly features make it possible to improve Alpha in absolutely any direction. This makes it very convenient for both beginners and experienced hobbyists.

Tuning an Alpha moped can increase power and other characteristics of the vehicle, such as its speed. Practical advice and recommendations.

Many owners of Alpha and Delta mopeds want to tune their moped in order to improve its performance, increase speed and traction, because nothing in the world is perfect. Tuning the ALPHA moped can turn a seemingly ordinary ordinary worker into an almost cool racing bike. It is possible to overclock the engine volume from the existing 72 to 110.

In this video I will tell you.

If the Alpha moped is not able to reach the required speed, despite the roar of the engine and a solid speed, it is impossible to stop the rotating wheel, and gear changes occur intermittently, then the cause of the malfunction is a worn clutch.

To fix the problem, you need to do the following:

Another cause of moped malfunction may be wear on the drive sprockets. If they are very worn, they must be replaced with new ones.

You may have a problem with the engine overheating. You can correct the situation after refilling the oil. If there is an oil leak, you should urgently contact professional service .

Running in a moped with an updated engine

When the moped is assembled with a new motor configuration and run in gentle modes, try to reach maximum speed in deserted conditions. It may turn out that the chassis and brakes can no longer cope with the power of the engine. The spokes of the rear wheel are curled by torque, and in order to brake the moped you will have to release the brake parachute. While driving, the silent blocks of the shock absorbers fall out and wobbling begins. This means that next on the replacement list will be shock absorbers, a motorcycle front fork with a wheel and a disc brake system.

The Alpha moped is one of the most popular in the post-Soviet countries. This is not surprising, because this model is excellent value for money. The characteristics allow us to consider the moped practically a universal one, and the wide possibilities for modification help to significantly expand them. The use of such a moped is not only convenient, but also economical - fuel consumption per 100 km is only about 2 liters with a factory equipped engine. The combination of low weight (about 80 kg) with a load capacity of up to 120 kg makes this model very attractive.

However, used models sometimes experience problems with ignition, which negates all the advantages of the moped. It’s not very difficult to get your iron horse back into service and understand why the Alpha moped won’t start. To do this, it is not even necessary to contact specialists - with due attention, all the work can be done with your own hands.

Causes of malfunction

The Chinese Alpha moped, whose price is affordable, does not cause owners many problems. Interruptions in a moped engine have several causes, and once you understand them, you can quickly fix the breakdown.

Disassembling the moped engine

So, if the engine starts with great difficulty, the muffler “shoots”, and smoke comes out of the chimney, it means that the moped is “capricious” due to problems with the carburetor. In order to solve this problem with the Alpha moped, you need to:

If the Alpha slowly picks up speed, and its engine is not able to develop the declared power, then the reason is the incorrect operation of the moped valves. It can also “get sick” due to gaps and incorrect timing. In order to make the Alpha moped function normally, it is necessary to replace the used valves with new ones.

If the Alpha moped is not able to reach the required speed, despite the roar of the engine and solid revolutions, it is impossible to stop the spinning wheel, and gear shifting occurs intermittently, then the cause of the malfunction is clutch wear.
