Review
Classic transport has always been valued since the USSR, and 20 years ago Jupiter 5 was one of the best.
Today, most riders ride foreign fast motorcycles, but occasionally you can meet a former legend of the 80s and 90s. In those years, only his brother Planet 5 competed with Jupiter, but he could not compare with the motorcycle in terms of characteristics. Their main difference was the difference in cylinders, and therefore power. If we continue to compare these two competitors, we can highlight the fact that both models had almost the same data. For example, they had one tubular frame, and a special subframe was installed to better secure the rear wheel. In general, the entire design of Jupiter 5 was quite standard and simple, the engine was attached to the frame, the fuel tank was located above, and the headlight and dashboard were installed on the steering wheel.
In the photo of Izh Jupiter 5 you can see that below the seat there are two compartments with protection. These were glove compartments, each of which was intended for a specific purpose: the right one was for tools, and the left one housed the battery. There were also 2 exhaust pipes installed that ran through the entire motorcycle. Sometimes the pipes got hot and could cause a burn, but the manufacturer installed them below the footpegs to keep the passenger as safe as possible.
Even the first models of the Izh Jupiter 5 motorcycle had simple drum brakes with a mechanical drive, but subsequent modifications received a front disc brake with a hydraulic drive.

Technical characteristics of Izh Planet Sport
The first motorcycle variations received imported batteries for the accumulator. This continued until they mastered it and released model 6 MTS-9. Even the first characteristics of the Izh Planet Sport evoke respect for the manufacturer. It was impossible to remain indifferent to the rubber-cushion mounting of the engine on the frame, which was a real innovation. A one-inch difference in wheel sizes, Japanese electrical engineering - all this seemed unattainable.
Over time, Izhevsk carburetors brought improvements to the assembly. The latter, of course, had a smaller diffuser size and the generated power immediately dropped to 28 horses. Externally, they could be recognized by the elongated wing of the rear wheel and the arc shape of the exhaust pipe. These changes can be found in numerous videos from Izh Planet Sport.

Due to its high quality indicators, the Izh Planet Sport motorcycle was produced exclusively for export, and there was a scarce demand for its spare parts. The lucky owners of the high-speed unit have no choice but to improve their pet with their own hands. Amateur modifications directly concerned:
- boring of the M-412 piston (it was counterfeited to match the standard, or made similar to the piston 514 “Ceseta”);
- “tightening” the engine - making the crankshaft lighter due to milling;
- changes in bearings;
- for better lubrication, the crank chamber area receives a neighbor in the form of an oil seal with a bushing.
Reviews about Planet motorcycles are mostly positive. And for those negative aspects that are found in the configuration, there is always an amendment that everything can be repaired, remade or replaced. With good maintenance, this Soviet-quality motorcycle has no limit either in modifications or in service life.
The motive for the accelerated conversion of my Izhik was an advertisement I recently read in a poster about a homemade competition. There was about a month left to work. And at that time I had practically no information about the alterations.
I started the modification with the frame: I loaded it onto a trailer and went to a friend’s welding shop. I selected the necessary metal and the next day the suspension was ready first, and a day later I dismantled the upper part of the frame and began installing a new one. I had to wait another day and the back of my new Izh was also ready. Well, I took the resulting constructor home for modification. Initially, there was a homemade mono-shock absorber at the rear, but it didn’t want to work properly, so I had to install two original ones from Izh.
Next it came to the gas tank. At first I wanted to weld it from stainless steel, but I couldn’t find metal nearby, and it’s an expensive pleasure now. I purchased a 1mm sheet of metal and worked on the drawing for two days, cutting and adjusting the parts. I took the neck from a Java 638 tank. I gave it all for welding, but when I received the finished tank, it was just... Everything was welded crookedly, and the neck was generally shifted to the left. In general, I took my templates again and welded them this time from 2 mm steel, and coated the seams with Poxypol.
I disassembled the engine, took the cylinders to a boring machine, and went to the motorcycle market. I bought a new clutch basket, gear, motor chain, knocked out 40 crankshafts until I found what I needed, all the bearings and seals were cracked. As a result, the only thing left in the original engine was the gearbox, which was in good condition. I installed a Weber carburetor. And I squandered the exhaust a little by making resonators.
Then he took up the chassis. I bought the wheels in garages, and, as I understand it, the IZh has driven about 2,500 km on them. Replaced all bearings in the wheels and steering column. I filled them properly with Shel lubricant, of course, washed the fork, changed the paronite bushings and seals in it. The tires on my IZH-ik King Tire are 100-90 18 in front, 120-90 18 in rear. I sharpened the clips from a steel rod.
I installed the headlight from 638 Java, bought all the new turns, immediately “tuned” the front ones, installed five LEDs in them, didn’t bother with the rear ones, so I left them stock. Turning relay, Orion toggle switches, panel, BVP 14-10, brushes, bought everything and installed new. Installed BSZ. I welded the modulator to the sharpened breaker, clamped it with the stock bolt, installed the lower piece of metal from under the contacts with a Hall sensor, it turned out to be simple and practical. I also installed a multitronics tachometer-voltmeter.
Review and history of Izh Planet Sport
Already in the first years of production, Izh gained incredible popularity; the motorcycle was universal and could be used both on city roads and on long trips not only on the highway, but also off-road. Even today, this model is considered one of the best among the Izhas; hundreds of copies are still in use. Many will be interested in the history of the motorcycle, and it is worth noting that when the model was released, compatriots were a little shocked, because this was the fastest motorcycle available at that time. It so happened that the external design of the planet sport was not the same as its brothers; the designers took samples from Japanese motorcycles of the 60s, such as the Yamaha 350R5 or Kawasaki A1 Samurai.
tuning Izh Planet Sport
Soon, the great popularity of the Izh Planet Sport forced the Izhmash plant to begin exporting to other countries, and as a result, the motorcycle was used in the Netherlands, Finland and the UK. Even there, he was able to compete seriously with imported well-known brands. The initial price of a motorcycle in the Soviet Union started at 1,050 rubles, but the manufacturer soon rounded it up to 1 thousand. Of course, in those days it was a lot of money, but this did not stop people, they wanted this sports “bike”.
As for the more detailed technical characteristics of the model, the manufacturer made a real breakthrough in the production of motorcycles in the USSR. If you see the letter “M” in the Planet number, your iron horse has the function of separate motor lubrication, and this is a unique invention. But it is worth noting that this function is present only on models produced in 1974.
Mass production
Serial production at the motor plant (Izh-7, Izh-8, Izh-9, Izh-12) in the period 1933-1941.
By the early 1930s, motorcycles were not being manufactured. Despite this, separate initiative groups of enthusiasts in Moscow, Leningrad, Kharkov, including P.V. Mozharov in Izhevsk, worked on the creation of a domestic motorcycle. A commission of experts of the Presidium of the Supreme Economic Council of the USSR considered the issue of building a large motorcycle plant and came to the conclusion that the most suitable place for its location would be Izhevsk. The city had a full range of engineering production - from steel smelting to the manufacture of complex tools and machine tools, the workers had the necessary qualifications, and there were no difficulties in the supply of raw materials. Here, on the basis of the hunting rifle factory of the manufacturer Berezin, located on Bazarnaya Street, the construction of the Experimental Motorcycle Plant began.
At first, they planned to produce the heavy motorcycle “NATI-A-750” at this plant, designed under the leadership of P.V. Mozharov. The motorcycle had a two-cylinder V-shaped engine with a displacement of 747 cubic cm, a stamped frame characteristic of Mozharov motorcycles, and reached a power of 15 hp. By May 1, 1933, the first 4 motorcycles were manufactured. At the same time, prototypes of the Izh-7 light motorcycles were assembled according to documentation received from Leningrad. In fact, these were twins of the L-300 model (the same copy of the DKV-Luxus-300 developed by Mozharov) - a two-stroke single-cylinder engine with transverse blowing, a three-speed gearbox, a chain drive to the rear wheel, a frame made of stamped elements assembled on bolts, parallelogram front fork, unsprung rear wheel. But the Izh-7 underwent the sadly familiar operation of “reducing labor intensity”: the trunk and front flaps disappeared, the flat footboards were replaced with round ones, the rotating throttle handle was replaced by a rotary shifter, the decompressor drive was not remote, but by a tap on the cylinder head.
In the end, it was the Izh-7 that was chosen for serial production. True, of the 12 motorcycles manufactured in 1933, almost all returned to the factory - the ignition system failed. But soon the “childhood illnesses” were overcome, and in 1934 the plant produced 111 motorcycles.
At the beginning of 1938, the Izh-7 was replaced by a new model, the Izh-8. The 300 cc engine received a loop scavenging with two scavenging channels, due to which the power increased from 5.5 to 8 hp. The electrical system has also become more advanced - instead of a flywheel magneto, the car is now equipped with a generator and a battery. And in 1940, production of the Izh-9 model began, with its capacity increased to 9 liters. With. power. At the same time, documentation was received from Leningrad for the L-8 motorcycle, equipped with a 4-stroke overhead valve engine with a displacement of 348 cm³ and a maximum power of 13.5 hp. To speed up the development of the new model, it was decided to use the chassis of the Izh-9 motorcycle. Serial production of the new motorcycle, designated “Izh-12,” was supposed to begin in the summer of 1941. However, the further development of motorcycle manufacturing at the plant was prevented by the war.

Kawasaki has announced the new dual sport Kawasaki KLX230 2020 along with the KLX250 2022, but does it make sense to release the same type of motorcycles with a difference of only 16 cc? At least, the green manufacturer considers such a move quite rational.

Enduro → TOP 5 Chinese dual-purpose motorcycles [Moto Life]
Dual-purpose motorcycles, or otherwise “dual-sport,” are essentially a hybrid between a road motorcycle and an enduro motorcycle to one degree or another. Such motorcycles allow you to tackle quite serious off-road conditions. But unlike enduro, these motorcycles can be ridden over long distances with relative comfort. There are both light motorcycles, the so-called “soft enduro”, ideal for trips to the nearest forest to pick mushrooms, and heavier touring enduros, with a larger tank and hung fairings, for greater comfort when riding on the highway. In this video we will discuss dual-purpose motorcycles produced in the Middle Kingdom. Do they deserve our attention and are they worth buying?

Technical characteristics of Izh Jupiter 5
In general, the characteristics of the Izh Jupiter 5 motorcycle corresponded to its time. But in the 2000s, when it continued to be produced, it could no longer compete with imported models. The Chinese had already flooded the market with budget, but still more modern models, and a flood of used motorcycles poured from Japan, Europe and the USA. The characteristics of the Izh Yu5 engine were not bad, but everything else was hopelessly outdated a couple of decades ago.
Engine
The technical characteristics of the engine are not amazing - two cylinders, 347 cubic meters. There is enough horsepower, as much as 24, torque - 34 Nm. Compared to the previous generation, the engine lost 4 hp, but gained torque, and there was also noticeably more thrust at the bottom, so in general the characteristics of the Izh Jupiter 5 became more balanced. But the engine remained two-stroke, and the gas tank must be filled with oil mixed with gasoline in a ratio of 1 to 25. But it can easily digest even AI-76, not to mention AI-80. The declared maximum speed is 125 km/h, and it can be achieved on Jupiter without a stroller. And if you look at the engine in cross-section, it turns out that it subtly resembles all the engines at once that were ever produced at the Izhevsk Motor Plant.
Transmission
Standard 4-speed transmission, where first gear is downshifted and all others are upshifted. It has never been reliable, but thanks to its high maintainability and availability of spare parts, Soviet motorcyclists quickly learned how to solve problems on their own. Some garage craftsmen even completely rebuilt the transmission, adding a fifth gear to the bike, but these were custom ones.
Chassis and brakes
The chassis was developed back in the 70s, if not earlier, and in Jupiter 5 it has remained virtually unchanged. A conventional steel frame with a telescopic fork in front and ancient shock absorbers a la “candle” in the rear, plus drum brakes on both wheels. The effectiveness of the suspension and braking system was mediocre even for its time, but they also had a significant advantage - endurance and maintainability. On modern motorcycles (except perhaps enduro), oil from the fork quickly begins to leak on rural dirt roads, and Izh Yu5, it seems, can ride without it at all. But we still do not recommend testing this in practice.
Electronics
The fifth generation Jupiter does not have the same electrical problems that the fourth had. In fact, this model is the same Jupiter 4, but with a number of corrected shortcomings, such as regular wiring problems. Gasoline consumption has also become lower thanks to a redesigned ignition. In general, the electrical circuit has changed slightly, but the weak points that regularly served as a source of headaches for owners have been removed.
Weight and dimensions
The dimensions of the bike can be called average, as well as its weight. How much does Izh Jupiter 5 weigh? By modern standards - quite a lot, about 160 kg, and this is only dry weight. But the motorcycle engine is located low, so the center of gravity is also shifted down. The relatively large weight is due to the fact that in the USSR they did not skimp on hardware, and plastic elements were practically not used. If something can be made from iron, it must be made from iron! That is why the weight of the Izh Jupiter 5 engine is about a quarter of its total mass, if we consider the specimen without a sidecar.
Controllability
This mastodon handles mediocrely, not least because of the ancient design, and with a stroller the handling becomes even worse. But the cradles for Izh Jupiter 5 were also produced separately, so if you don’t need it, you can always disconnect it. But don't forget about the weak brakes, which are not enough to effectively stop a massive bike. On the other hand, the Izh stroller is good because you can load a lot of spare parts and other goods into it when going on a long trip, since its volume allows this.
Fuel consumption
Compared to the previous generation, gasoline consumption has noticeably decreased, from 7-8 liters to 5.5-6. The stated figures are about 5.9 liters at an average speed of 90 km/h. The quality of gasoline does not matter; the carburetor calmly consumes everything that burns. Tank volume - 18 liters.

Description CCM 604 DS Dual Sport 2000
The description of the CCM 604 DS Dual Sport 2000 motorcycle is in the queue for publication of the article. Announcement: Today, for almost every new motorcycle that comes into being, marketers strive to carve out their own niche. This one is a road sport, this one is a recreational enduro. But what class should we include a motorcycle that has a little bit of everything? A good bike should have a reliable engine, comfortable ergonomics and simple controls.
Despite the fact that good models of motorcycles have a very respectable price, and the season for their use is relatively short, the motorcycle market is developing rapidly. And if you believe the words of dealers, then some models of recently released motorcycles are selling like hot cakes at the beginning of the season, and the models brought to Russia are clearly not enough to fully satisfy consumer demand.
A motorcycle has long ceased to be an alternative to a car, and the times when this equipment was bought only because there was not enough money for a full-fledged car are forgotten. Nowadays, two-wheelers can be called technological marvels in many cases, and their cost can be compared with that of prestigious cars.
Many people have started buying motorcycles for hobby purposes as riding or even collecting them has become a good pastime for many people. Many motorcycles, for example the CCM 604 DS Dual Sport, whose technical characteristics allow the model to be called a prestigious brand, are in demand among both beginners and experienced motorcyclists.
Currently, it is impossible to purchase a new CCM 604 DS Dual Sport motorcycle from the 2000 model year, since their production stopped 16 years ago. At the same time, the CCM 604 DS Dual Sport has excellent technical characteristics, so many are eager to purchase, if not a new, then at least a used version.
Motorcycles with an engine capacity of 598 cc. see, appeared as a result of long work of inventors who sought to create a model that was not inferior in characteristics to other versions of the motorcycle. In some cases, these models are not only not inferior, but also ahead of other motorcycles, as they have minimal fuel consumption and other excellent parameters.
Motorcycles with an engine capacity of more than 400 kb. cm, which includes the CCM 604 DS Dual Sport - this category of motorcycles simply cannot claim the title of “motorcycle for a beginner.” On the contrary, this is already a serious technique that requires certain control of motorcycle equipment with a smaller engine capacity. Yes, she attracts more attention, she is the most beautiful, fast, interesting and there is a huge selection of models. But as power increases, the weight of the motorcycle inevitably increases. In this class you are unlikely to find motorcycles lighter than 180 kg, unless they are the latest motorcycle models.

CORRECT BREAK-IN IS THE KEY TO DURABILITY IN A COLD ENGINE WITH INTENSIVE WEAR HIGH SPEED - IT IS EASIER TO MAINTAIN THE ENGINE - YOU REPAIR LESSLY When purchasing a motorcycle of a new brand, a person is naturally interested in everything that concerns this machine. What should you pay attention to when running in, what are the features of driving and maintenance, what is the durability of the main components and assemblies, etc.? These questions are often found in letters from readers. The answers to them are contained in the material published here about the Jawa-350, but much of it is also true for other motorcycles with a two-stroke engine (Voskhod, IZH, etc.). It was prepared by an experienced motorcyclist, consultant to the magazine, engineer E. Konop. We started operating the Jawa-350 type 634 model 8-00 four years ago, rode in a wide variety of conditions, under various loads, in all imaginable modes. Then, in the spring of 1977, the JAVA we took out of the box was no different from the many others that were in Ma’s yard.
Java 250 Trial – Jawa 250 Trial
A trial for everyone Jawa 250 Trial The design of the motorcycle Jawa 250 Trial The Trial is a motorcycle competition for cross-country driving skills that is gaining more and more popularity in the world. At the FIM congress, the issue of making trials the number one discipline in the international motorsports calendar and recommending it to the Olympic Games program was even discussed. In mass trials competitions, excluding official meetings held under the auspices of the FIM, ordinary road motorcycles are used. The modifications boil down to protecting the engine from below, reducing the fork travel and adjusting the motor to achieve maximum power in the first two or three gears (speed does not matter here). At the same time, leading foreign motorcycle companies began producing special machines for trials. The Czechoslovak JAVA plant in Prague is also starting to produce such motorcycles. The design of the Jawa 250 Trial motorcycle takes into account the specifics determined by the competition route. The chassis is provided by the poppy.
Conversion of the ChZ-250 cross-country motorcycle into a multi-day motorcycle
Converting a CZ-250 motocross into a multi-day event Multi-day motorcycle competitions are the most versatile form of motorsports. They require excellent physical fitness, cross-country and road bike skills from the rider, and reliability, good driving performance and endurance from the car. It is not for nothing that the international six-day competition is called the Motorcycle Olympics, thereby emphasizing its importance. In 1972, the Soviet team took fourth place at the six-day competition held in Czechoslovakia. This, of course, is a success: our athletes, like the winners, did not receive any penalty points in the main competitions (the winners were identified only by special tests). But in order to climb to the podium, much remains to be done. City, republican and all-Union multi-day races are held in our country. The number of athletes participating in them is relatively small. The growth of mass popularity, in addition to organizational difficulties, is hampered by the lack of technically advanced motorcycles. To cozh.
What bearings and seals are used on IZH-Planet and IZH-Jupiter motorcycles
Reader A. Ustinov from Kemerovo asks what bearings and oil seals are used on the IZH-Planet and IZH-Jupiter motorcycles, and asks for their numbers. The crankshaft of the Planet motorcycle (all models) rests on two roller bearings 2505K and for one ball bearing 304 (left). Its trunnions are sealed with an oil seal designated IZH-49 sb. 1-30-1 with cover (right) and seal IZH-49 sb. 1-40-3 (left). The Jupiter crankshaft (also of all models) is mounted on three 205 ball bearings and on 304 ball bearings (left). The oil seals are as follows: right - IZH-49 sb 1-30-3 with a cover, left - IZH-Yu sb. 1-50 and one oil seal IZH-Yu sb. 1-14-1 in each of the two crank chamber covers. The secondary shaft of the gearbox for both Planeta and Jupiter rests on roller bearing 192906 K1M and is sealed with an IZH-49 sb oil seal. 1-28-1.The input shaft on all motorcycles on the left is supported by a ball bearing.
Motorcycle IZH Jupiter 4. First thousand kilometers
Jupiter of the fourth generation The team of the Izhmash production association completed the tenth five-year plan with a double labor victory: a new mechanical assembly building was put into operation, where the production of IZH-Jupiter-4 motorcycles was mastered. “Jupiter-4” is distinguished by a successful combination of the best solutions, tested both on its previous models, as well as on Planet-Sport. The ENGINE has undergone further modernization. Thanks to improved filling and changes in the design of the purge channels, its maximum power has been increased from 25 to 28 hp. s., and torque - from 3.23 to 3.58 kgf.m. In this regard, an additional pair of discs was introduced into the CLUTCH. The FRAME is also interchangeable with previous Jupiter models. The changes affected only the mounting of the gas tank, where rubber shock absorbers were used to reduce vibrations. The shape of the tank has become more modern, and the factory emblem also looks new. IN THE CHASSIS thanks to the modernization of the front.
Disadvantages of the IZH-P5 engine
- Loud in operation;
- Increased vibration;
- Oil sprays from the muffler;
- Long acceleration;
- High fuel consumption;
- Small resource;
- Strong return from kickstarter.
Loud operation has a negative impact on people around (interferes with rest), which causes corresponding reactions towards the motorcyclist.
Increased engine vibration is felt throughout the motorcycle, especially with your hands on the handlebars.
Oil splashes from the muffler, which falls on the back of the driver or passenger when driving. This disadvantage is eliminated by installing a stainless steel ladle of the appropriate diameter at the end of the exhaust pipe. The ladle should have a sector cut out in advance, which should be in the lower part when mounted with screws. This modification will prevent oil from getting onto the back, and the exhaust will be directed downward.
Long acceleration. Planet 5 with a sidecar takes longer to accelerate. The increased duration during acceleration is especially noticeable on a motorcycle with a sidecar.
High fuel consumption. The engine is not fuel efficient and the reason is primarily in the design of the two-stroke engine.
The resource is limited to an interval of 20-25 thousand km
Strong return from kickstarter. To prevent the kickstarter from hitting your leg, do not accompany the kickstarter with your foot when it returns to its original position. The impact on the kickstarter when starting the engine should be sharp and strong.
Conclusion.
The engine is reliable and simple, rarely breaks down. Easy to repair. Its production has stopped, but there are no problems with spare parts. The cylinder is not disposable; it can be repaired by boring or replacing liners with the installation of assembled repair pistons (to fit the repair dimensions of the cylinders). The engine is not for sports racing, but for farming in rural areas and for going out into nature it has no price, it is good.
PS. Dear “Planetovod” motorcyclists! You can ask a question or add reviews and information on the weak points and shortcomings of the IZH-P5 motor in the comments.
Pressing the crankshaft
It’s not difficult to press the crankshaft, I didn’t bother pressing the good crankshaft, I’ll explain everything in words. It is advisable to press the crankshaft on an anvil or an old cast-iron car block. Hammer the new finger into the crankshaft cheek in which the finger remained when pressed, this will make it easier to press in the second cheek. The new pin is driven from the inside of the crankshaft to the end. Place the new needle bearing and connecting rod on the pin. Place the crankshaft cheek with the hammered pin on the anvil so that the pin rests on the anvil. Place the other cheek on your finger and hammer in with a heavy hammer as shown in the photo below.
When you put the second cheek on the crankshaft, be careful not to hit the threads or the cone of the crankshaft axis. At this point, there is no need to worry too much about the alignment of the crankshaft shafts; it is enough to roughly position it correctly.
The koleval has been pressed, now check the size between the cheeks with a caliper, if possible, spread the cheeks less, if more, beat the cheeks to the desired size.
Also, be careful that the crankshaft pin does not come out from one of the cheeks; if it comes out, drive it in with a mandrel.

Specifications
Most of the Izh Sport components were produced in the USSR, although some parts were imported: a Japanese Mikuni carburetor, Hungarian optics from Pannonia, an Italian Veglia Borletti speedometer and some other little things. The technical characteristics of the Izh Planet Sport 350 were excellent; the thrust-to-weight ratio of the motorcycle was almost twice that of the super-popular Jawa 350, providing acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 11 seconds! The motorcycle was so reliable that there were rumors among Soviet bikers that it was originally developed exclusively as an export model. The service life of the CPG, according to reviews, reached 50-60 thousand kilometers, which is a record for a 2-stroke engine. The maximum speed of the Izh Planet Sport is 140 km/h.
Engine
On Izh Sport in the first years of production, the power reached 32 horsepower, but later it was reduced to 28 hp. for the sake of efficiency and engine life (volume - 340 cm³). The separate lubrication system and engine mounting on rubber mounts implemented in this model were original innovations, thanks to which the bike successfully competed with Japanese and European models in the markets of Great Britain, Finland and other countries. Excellent engine performance combined with high build quality made this bike incredibly popular.
Transmission
The bike is equipped with a classic 4-speed gearbox, simple and reliable. Gears change in the usual manner, 1-N-2-3-4. The gear ratio of the top, fourth gear is 1.0, and you can safely switch to it already at 70 km/h - it will ensure smooth acceleration.
Chassis and brakes
Despite some innovative solutions, the Izh Planet Sport characteristics corresponded to its time. That’s why the motorcycle got a regular, welded frame, and the fork is a simple rodless telescope with a free play of 150 mm. At the rear there is a swingarm with a stroke of 95 mm, so the suspension cannot be called soft. The brakes are drum brakes, not very effective, and the declared stopping distance at a speed of 60 km/h is at least 16 meters.
Electronics
The electronic content of this model was partially imported. Thus, the sound signal was produced at the Japanese company Nikko, the ignition switch was borrowed from Jawa, original Magneti Marelli spark plugs came to the Soviet Union from sunny Italy, and no less original batteries came from the Land of the Rising Sun. But in general, the electrical circuit of the motorcycle is simple and easy to understand.
Weight and dimensions
The dry weight of Izh PS is only 135 kg. Thanks to this, the bike has good dynamics and does not forbid some recklessness, which, in fact, is why Soviet motorcyclists fell in love with it. Its dimensions are appropriate; this model is more compact than Izh Jupiter 5 or Planet 3.
Controllability
For bikers accustomed to modern motorcycles, riding an Izh PS may seem unusual. The bike handles well, but the steering angles are wide and you can easily drop the bike, especially when turning at low speed. This feature is worth keeping in mind.
Fuel consumption
Although the declared fuel consumption does not exceed 3.5 liters at a speed of 50 km/h, during control measurements in normal mode it is about 6 liters. When driving off-road, it can be even higher, but the 14-liter gas tank is enough even for long trips. The Izh Planet Sport engine prefers gasoline with an octane rating of at least 93, but in fact you can safely fill in AI-92 purchased at a trusted gas station.

The description of the CCM 604 DS Supermoto 2000 motorcycle is in the queue for publication of the article.
Many motorcycles, for example the CCM 604 DS Supermoto, whose technical characteristics make it possible to call the model a prestigious brand, are in demand among both beginners and experienced motorcyclists.
Currently, it is impossible to purchase a new CCM 604 DS Supermoto motorcycle from the 2000 model year, since their production stopped 16 years ago. At the same time, the CCM 604 DS Supermoto has excellent technical characteristics, so many are eager to purchase, if not a new, then at least a used version.
Motorcycles with an engine capacity of more than 400 kb. cm, which includes the CCM 604 DS Supermoto - this category of motorcycles simply cannot claim the title of “motorcycle for a beginner.” On the contrary, this is already a serious technique that requires certain control of motorcycle equipment with a smaller engine capacity.

Jerking when engaging the clutch
“On the IZh motorcycle, when starting off, jerks in the transmission began to be felt. What could be the reason?" - asks L. Koltsovsky from the city of Shakhty. A similar phenomenon on the IZh, as well as on other motorcycles with a multi-disc clutch, indicates a malfunction of this unit. Usually jerks when engaging the clutch (that is, when starting off) occur due to the fact that its disks do not touch simultaneously and not over the entire area. Most often, the reason is warping of the discs or the formation of dents in the grooves of the drums. To fix the problem, you need to disassemble the clutch and replace damaged parts. If the dents in the grooves are shallow, you can level their surfaces with a file, so that the teeth of the disks touch all the grooves at the same time. It should be borne in mind that in excessively wide grooves, the disc teeth will knock against their edges when engaging and disengaging the clutch while the motorcycle is moving. This will lead to intensive wear of the drum grooves. In some cases, the clutch does not engage.
Production of IZH motorcycles after the war. How many and what kind of IZHs were manufactured as of January 1, 1986
How many and what kind of IZHs were manufactured as of January 1, 1986 Motorcyclist O. Kolesnichenko from the Altai Territory asks to name all the post-war models of IZH motorcycles and report the years of their production and the number of cars manufactured for each model. We turned to the Izhmash association for reference data. Below is the information as of January 1, 1986. Two forces more powerful. Boosting the IZH-36/IZH-Planet engine
Increasing engine power is a question of interest to many motorcyclists. And this is understandable: the dynamic and other parameters of a motorcycle are directly dependent on the power of its engine. We have already told you (“Behind the Wheel”, 1967, No. 1) how to increase the power of the IZH Planet engine to 18 hp. With. Rice. 1. Changing the diameter of the carburetor diffuser Some readers, who are not able to complete the entire amount of work recommended in the article, ask about simpler methods that allow them to obtain at least a small (two to three times the power) increase in power. In the published article by engineers V. Abrahamyan, A Maksimov and B. Lezhnev owners of IZH 36 and IZH Planet motorcycles are given recommendations on how, by making minor changes to some components and parts of the engine, increase power to 15 hp. The design changes proposed by the authors do not increase fuel consumption and have virtually no effect on the durability and reliability of the motorcycle. The main means of increasing engine power.
IZH Planet 5. Three new modifications 7.107-014, 7.107-015, 7.107-016
Three modifications of the IZH Planet 5 motorcycle. For many years, the Izhmash Association has been pursuing a policy of broad unification of manufactured vehicles. Not only parallel, that is, for models produced simultaneously, for example, “IZH-Jupiter-5” and “IZH-Planeta-5”, but also sequential - the continuity of later machines with their predecessors (“IZH-Planet-5”, “IZH-Planet-5”) Planet-4", "IZH-Planet-3", etc.). This trend will continue in the near future. As is known, Izhmash designers envision three promising families of motorcycles: “Sirius” to replace the “Planet”, “Saturn” to replace the “Jupiter” and the new “Orion” family (ZR, 1990, No. 6). The latter is based on a Japanese license, covering a four-stroke single-cylinder engine, telescopic front forks, front disc brake, cast light alloy wheels.
Weaknesses of the IZH-P5 engine
- Air filter;
- Cylinder-piston group;
- Transmission.
More details about the weak points of the IZH-P5 power unit...
Air filter. To prevent dust from entering the engine, frequent washing and oiling of the filter element is required. Installing a paper filter would reduce the time spent on engine maintenance during maintenance and would improve the quality of cleaning the air supplying the carburetor.
The CPG wears out after 20,000-25,000 km due to the lack of water cooling.
Transmission. Over the years, due to wear and tear, the gears switch off on their own and adjustment does not eliminate the problem. In this case, it is necessary to overhaul the gearbox and replace worn out parts.
Tuning Izh Planet Sport
Making changes to the design of a motorcycle is impractical for a number of reasons:
- The resource of many components and assemblies is small. For this reason, it is almost impossible to improve their characteristics without causing damage.
- An Izh Planet Sport 350 restored to its original condition is valued significantly higher than its tuned versions.
However, if there is a desire, something can be done. Many athletes participating in cross-country or circuit racing competitions modified the Izh Planet Sport engine, making various changes to its design. A frequently asked question is how many cubic meters can the engine capacity be increased by.
Engine tuning (boosting)
When boosting the engine, the sports team masters altered many things, from the connecting rod and piston group to the exhaust system. The maximum that could be obtained by pressing in a liner from a CZ 500 and using the piston that came with it was a little over four hundred cubic centimeters of working volume.
But such boosting of the Izh Planet Sport engine requires serious professional skills and sophisticated equipment. The thin walls of a standard cast-iron sleeve pressed into an aluminum cylinder do not allow the engine to be bored up to 500 cc.
The exhaust system cannot cope with the removal of the increased volume of exhaust gases, and the support bearings cannot cope with the increased loads. All the talk that there was a factory version of the Izh Planet Sport 500cc is nothing more than a fairy tale. But boring a cylinder is not the only way to increase power and add agility to a motorcycle.
DIY tuning
Installing a new carburetor is a proven way to improve the performance of the Izh Sport without making significant changes to the design. Over the years, Mikuni has released many new, increasingly advanced models with a diffuser diameter of 32 mm.
Engine tuning can be done in other ways without affecting its mechanical components. Starting and stable operation of single-cylinder engines has always presented certain problems, which can be solved by installing electronic ignition on the Izh Planet Sport. Such kits are produced by several manufacturers, and their installation does not take much time.
When using BKSZ with power units of other modifications, you should be very careful. When installing the ignition from a Minsk motorcycle on the Izh Planet Sport, you must remember that the crankshafts of the engines of these machines rotate in opposite directions. The wires going from the coil to ground and the switch will have to be swapped. Such an engine modification is quite justified.

I came across a good place in the Wikipedia article. I decided that this deserves a separate topic.
A new flowering of dual-use technology occurred in 1984, when the concept of “Dual Sport Motorcycle Rides”, invented by Jim Pilon, appeared. His idea came about for a very specific reason: Pilon saw that there were enough people who had an interest in off-road riding, but did not have the opportunity to participate in motocross or enduro events.
The definition of the concept sounded like “Dual, as in road and dirt, and Sport as in a non-competitive venue” and implied the opportunity to ride on any weekend for fun in good company in beautiful and interesting places, both on and off-road , - for the sake of fun, and not for the sake of sporting achievements. In contrast to enduro (moving alone and no outside help), Dual Sport Motorcycle Riding involves riding in company with the obligatory mutual assistance of each other.
In 1990, Suzuki released the DR350 motorcycle, officially marketed as a DualSport or “dirt bike with a license plate.” Thus, the term “dual-sport” (or “dualie”) came into use both among the motorcycle press and among motorcyclists themselves.

Let's break it down into pieces))) Indeed, the word Enduro itself means a type of sports competition, it all began in 1902, and was officially introduced only in 1981, while it was being formed there was still no clear division into off-road and road motorcycles, so at first everyone participated on-what, but later there were general features of what a motorcycle should look like for enduro competitions: – Large front wheel (usually 21 inches in diameter) – Wide handlebars. – Spoke wheels. – High mounting of the front mud flap. – Developed tire tread lugs. – Chain transmission. so Baja is an enduro competition)
Also, competitions often intersected with public roads, so for such competitions a license plate, headlights, brake lights, quiet exhaust, etc. were needed. or just at night, where there is enough headlights and clearance
The engines of cross-country motorcycles at that time were not suitable because they could break down at the 200th kilometer (gas-to-failure in a straight line) and vibrated terribly that you couldn’t go more than 200. They specially made more reliable, high-torque engines with low levels of vibration and noise, which could travel long distances without the need to change the oil every 5 hours (tt500? xl500? xt600e? xr600r.) and less voluminous for shorter and more technical competitions. In general, it turned out that the engines of enduro motorcycles (as they were called) were usually 1-cylinder 2-stroke 125-360 cc or 4-stroke 195-650 cc
Thus, calling motorcycles of this shape and such engines Endurics is, in principle, correct, especially those that were developed in the 90s
In 1984, Jim Pilon saw that there were people who wanted to ride off-road, but did not have the opportunity to participate in motocross or enduro competitions, he came up with a new concept called Dual Sport. Suzuki was the first to officially use this word in 1990 with the dr350 model, saying that it was an off-road motorcycle with a state number (essentially the same as Enduro, but marketing). Western journalists picked up this word and over time used it for those cases when it was understood that people would use a motorcycle in order to quietly and happily ride in nature in the company of friends, but this did not yet apply much to the motorcycles themselves, different manufacturers called these motorcycles are called differently and many continued to call them enduro motorcycles, the closest example that everyone still remembers is the Yamaha TTR250 Open Enduro. But the idea of DualSport gradually spread and more soft and more tourist motorcycles appeared, which are also, in principle, DualSport)
Because of all this, confusion arose in the post-Soviet space, “DualSport” in Russian is “dual-purpose motorcycle” - it’s long and does not sound, and the type of motorcycle was called “Enduro” in other countries, so that’s why the action of riding an enduro motorcycle was called here endurism, although historically in Western countries it is DualSport
And then 450s appeared and ruined everything. Now all over the world it is customary to call enduro motorcycles: DualSport motorcycle - with a state number, Trail bike - headlight, off-road bike is the same, but sometimes without headlights (there are also dirt-bike - crf450x, wr450f, which in Russian were called hard enduro in order to clearly separate them from crf230f and the like, which also only have a headlight), depending on marketing, different companies could have different other words, although now Everything has already been renamed to this standard and the word enduro motorcycle itself is used less often, mainly to associate the words with enduro competitions. But in the Russian language there is still no better word than Endurik to immediately understand what kind of motorcycle it is, so for now we’ll use what we have
