Polaris 800 Pro RMK 155 VS Ski-Doo Summit X154 800R E-TEC – COMPARISON

06/12/2017 admin

The Polaris 800 snowmobile is a mountain vehicle and is available in several modified versions, which differ from each other in their performance characteristics, and, of course, in appearance. Currently, the most popular modifications on the Russian market are the Polaris 800 RMK Assault 155 and Polaris 800 PRO-RMK 155.

Let's take a closer look at these versions:

The Polaris 800 RMK Assault 155 snowmobile is a universal mountain machine that can not only just be ridden, but also perform various tasks, for example, towing any loads on a sled. As for the scope of application, there are no restrictions; the snowmobile can be operated both in mountain conditions and on prepared tracks and ice. The power plant of this model has a displacement of 795 cubic meters, which has an excellent effect on the speed of movement and the acceleration of the car. It is worth noting that the Polaris 800 RMK Assault 155 is the fastest among other models.

In order for the snowmobile to feel great in mountainous areas, the manufacturer equips the machine with a long Competition type track, which has high lugs. Thanks to this, it was possible to achieve high maneuverability and stability on slippery and loose surfaces. The Pro-Ride frame and suspension have been significantly lighter and feature carbon inserts. The QuickDrive drive system was also lightened and modern side steps made of aluminum were installed. The rear suspension has coil springs, which are necessary when traveling in deep snow.

  • Technical characteristics of Polaris 800 DRAGON RMK

The engine used by Liberty was traditionally liquid cooled; with 2 cylinders, the indicated engine displacement was 795 cc. This allows for 154 horsepower, making the snowmobile's capabilities limitless. With a dry weight of 214 kg, the snowmobile is quite maneuverable and handles well; it also uses a disc brake and a modern variator.

The length of the snowmobile declared by the manufacturer was 327.7 cm with a width of 118 cm. Now you can ride this vehicle for a long time; the Polaris 800 DRAGON RMK has a fuel tank with a capacity of 43.5 liters. Comfort is created using an adjustable IQ RMK front suspension and a standard RMK rear suspension. Professional high-quality Walker Evans shock absorbers are used to ensure maximum suspension comfort.

    Patented QUICKDRIVE drive system

RMK’s “fiery engine” is still the same. The familiar Cleanfire 800 CFI with an updated injection system and new control unit settings. But this is not the main “delicacy”.

The engine is now connected to the transmission using the patented QuickDrive system. That is, with the help of a belt, and not with a chain, as was before.

Of course, such a procedure was carried out in tuning workshops for quite a long time. But now, with the help of legendary snowmobiler Chris Burandt (who took an active part in the design of the RMK), the belt is officially installed right at the factory. Thanks to this solution, rotational inertia decreased by 21%, and the risk of untimely loss of the snowmobile was reduced (previously, if the chain broke, it would smash half of the engine compartment to pieces). And the weight of the car has decreased by almost 3 kilograms compared to the “chain” version.

    Polaris 800 DRAGON RMK review

The Polaris RMK 800 snowmobile is the ideal choice for the Russian user, comfortable, soft, high quality. For quite decent money, the buyer will receive a lightweight seat, a 12-inch diameter windshield with a transparent base, and a digital display with many functions is now installed as a dashboard. The basic equipment will already please every buyer, but as options you can order a 12V socket, mirrors, a rear trunk and a towing device. In the basic version you can find such elements as an electric starter, handle and lever heaters.

The new product has already received a lot of positive reviews, in particular, they note that the weight has been reduced by 11.3 kg. This is possible thanks to the use of lighter materials and alloys in the base. A Series 5 track is installed, designed specifically for mountain travel. Together with it, an excellent rear suspension helps to conveniently distribute the weight of the snowmobile and improve off-road performance. Tests were carried out before using the Gripper RMK skis, so the device has proven itself ideal on climbs and on difficult terrain. Branded shock absorbers from Walker Evans are adjustable, very high quality and are distinguished by the presence of an aluminum body and have heat-treated valves. Synthetic oil is poured into the shock absorber. This is an ideal solution for suspension operation in the coldest weather, the manufacturer has provided everything.

    • Daniil, Magnitogorsk. Not a bad snowmobile. Only very expensive. At the end of 2022, the car cost me 1.2 million rubles. This model impressed me, and I primarily noted its stylish design, excellent handling and powerful engine. The RMK 800 model is capable of driving on compacted snow and icy roads, as well as on loose snowy terrain. In short, this snowmobile rushes like a tank and does not cause any problems. I've been using it for about 4 months. Sharp steering and wide tracks contribute to excellent maneuverability and directional stability. I often go hunting and fishing with my men; by the way, they also have imported snowmobiles. In terms of handling, my car is on par with the Japanese Yamaha. I hope that Polaris will continue to please me with its reliability. I only fill up with oil and fuel. By the way, the snowmobile officially supports 92nd gasoline.
    • Boris, Nizhny Novgorod region. A good car for every day. I would like to note the high-quality finishing materials that immediately catch the eye, as well as the perfectly fitted details. In general, the build quality is excellent. This is the first impression. In two months I drove more than 1000 kilometers - I really liked the car, it doesn’t break down at all. I am sure that this will continue to happen. At speeds above 80 km/h, fuel consumption increases, but this is quite natural, and it’s a sin to complain. The windshield seemed a little low to me - because of this, the cold wind hits me directly in the face, which, to put it mildly, is not very pleasant. This seems like a small thing, but at the same time it is a serious drawback for such an expensive snowmobile. I had to buy a helmet, and now everything is fine.
    • Garik, Yaroslavl region. A too expensive snowmobile, which I still decided to buy. It has a power of more than 150 hp. s., and from this a certain confidence and pride in the car appears. But these are only the first sensations, since in practice there is nothing like this. Of course, the engine has good dynamics, accelerates quickly, but without spark. This is absolutely not a sports snowmobile - believe me, I have ridden real racing snowmobiles, which the RMK 800 model is no match for. A heavy but overly sensitive steering wheel, sharp but somewhat nervous handling, a stiff suspension and a low windshield are all design flaws that you cannot fix on your own. Fuel consumption is too high for a home snowmobile, especially at maximum speeds. The model has never broken down in two months – well, at least that’s a good thing, but still the price is very high. I cannot recommend this model for purchase, as there are serious shortcomings in terms of controllability and efficiency.

Snowmobile Polaris 800 RMK Assault 155

Another modification is the RMK Assault 155, a station wagon for little money. The snowmobile is ideal for “rides”, and is also capable of performing everyday tasks, such as towing cargo. The universal characteristics of the model allow you to ride on mountain trails and prepared tracks with ice. The engine capacity of 795 cc remains the same, but lightweight performance and other features make the snowmobile the fastest among other Polaris 800 modifications.

The “machine” showed itself ideally in mountainous areas; the tracks on Polaris snowmobiles were created in the Competition style - they have a good length and the presence of lugs. The latter provide a good and confident ride on slippery surfaces. Among other innovations, it is worth highlighting the lightweight QuickDrive drive system, the presence of carbon inserts in the suspension, as well as aluminum side steps. If you operate the Polaris 800 in heavy snow, the coil spring rear suspension helps ensure a comfortable ride.

    Price

It is worth noting that the Polaris 800 snowmobile is not a cheap pleasure. The cost of a new car usually starts from one million rubles and up to 1.2 million Russian rubles. The price of the machine changes depending on the year of production of the equipment, its configuration and version (basic or modified).

You can also purchase a used car, however, the cost for this option is also considerable - from 850 thousand rubles to 1.1 million Russian rubles. Here the price also depends on the year of production, version (basic or modified), general technical condition, and the number of kilometers traveled.

When purchasing a new snowmobile, the buyer is given a one-year warranty. And if during this period any malfunctions occur in the equipment, the official dealer provides free repair and service of the snowmobile. For the Polaris 800 model, the manufacturer has added a second warranty year, which comes into effect only if the client carefully operates the machine. This is precisely evidenced by the appearance of the equipment and the general technical condition; if everything is normal, then the official dealer will also undertake warranty repairs and service as in the first year of the warranty.

    Polaris 800 for extreme riding

The Polaris brand took care of a lot, so it released a special configuration with the ability to ride an extreme snowmobile. In particular, it can withstand jumps from considerable heights. This was achieved thanks to the improved front suspension, which now does not have a stabilizer. If you want to seriously test your snowmobile in extreme riding, adjust the ski base for maximum performance. Of course, the shock absorbers are adjustable. The model described above also received lugs and high rigidity for better grip. All the described characteristics make the snowmobile one of the most rigid and stable, so the price is quite justified.

But there is a configuration designed for performing various jumps and the like, that is, for extreme driving. In this case, the snowmobile is equipped with a powerful front suspension, which does not have a stabilizer. This suspension allows you to adjust the base of the skis, which allows you to prepare the machine for certain operating conditions. There are also Walker Evans® adjustable shock absorbers. The caterpillar belt has lugs with increased rigidity, thanks to which the machine can be used not only on snow surfaces, but also on ice. All this together gives the snowmobile quite high strength, stability and easy control in various situations.

The second modification, also known as Polaris 800 PRO-RMK 155, is a version exclusively designed for extreme operating conditions. Among its class, this model occupies a leading position; this mountain device will allow you to get an unforgettable experience from traveling along the most difficult routes.

As for the snowmobile's handling, the Polaris 800 PRO-RMK 155 is quite simple and manageable. The equipment is able to maintain balance even when taking very steep turns. By its structure, this modified version has high reliability of most parts and assemblies. The manufacturer managed to significantly lighten the model without losing strength and rigidity. As in the previous modification, this one has a 795 cc power plant, which allows you to overcome various obstacles that arise when traveling long distances. The model can be used both in the mountains and on ice.

    Evolution

By and large, there are no fundamental changes in the new RMK. No new suspensions, no turbocharged engines, no conceptually revolutionary platforms. But the reduction in the weight of the snowmobile without loss of structural rigidity compensates for the lower engine power compared to its competitors and the lack of striking technical innovations.

Some will say that the difference in weight is too insignificant for a vehicle with one hundred and fifty or more horses under a plastic hood. So, believe me, there is a difference, and quite noticeable!

In the right hands, RMK Pro works wonders. Like a sharpened blade, it easily and quickly cuts through sheets of virgin snow, storms mountain slopes in a controlled and predictable manner, and effortlessly accelerates to three-digit values on the speedometer. So, despite the lack of fundamental changes to the RMK platform, the war in the mountains continues. And I wouldn’t speak with confidence, for example, about the undoubted advantage of the new BRP Summit over the RMK Pro.

The winner in this confrontation will be revealed by an analysis of sales levels at the end of the 2013 winter season.
