Out into the wild, into the pampas - Irbis TTR 250 conquers off-road terrain

In the segment of budget motorcycles, competition reigns fiercely. The big four of Japan - Kawasaki, Honda, Suzuki and Yamaha - have been dividing the market among themselves for many decades, and in the last ten years, numerous Chinese companies have also joined the battle for customers’ wallets. Irbis TTR 250 Cross is one of these guests who came to us from the east, from the country of victorious communism, and he very confidently declared himself. Low price, reliable design and good technical characteristics - it simply could not go unnoticed by the motorcycle community.

Parameters and characteristics

The Chinese did not reinvent the wheel, but followed the beaten path - they took time-tested components, built a tubular steel frame and hung everything they needed on it. The road brother in the GR 250 line gave the TTR 250 its single-cylinder air-cooled engine, once diligently copied by the Chinese from one of the old Japanese engines. The picture is completed by a 5-speed gearbox, carburetor, 8-liter gas tank and good suspension. The brakes are also good - there is a disc on each wheel. Considering the modest weight of the motorcycle (only 120 kg), their efficiency is more than enough for confident braking. In general, we can say that the characteristics of the Irbis TTR 250 fully correspond to its cost.

Large wheels allow the bike to cope with uneven surfaces that await the motorcyclist outside of paved roads, and the toothy standard tires literally bite into the ground, preventing the motorcycle from losing traction. True, short-legged bikers may not find the seating position very comfortable on the Irbis TTR 250 due to the high seat height - alas, this is the price to pay for the large free travel of the suspension.

Speaking of pendants, they are really good. So good that you wouldn’t even expect to find them on the budget Chinese enduro Irbis TTR 250 R Cross. And even if they do not have full adjustments, they are extremely effective at absorbing any shocks. The motorcycle is equipped with an inverted telescopic fork at the front, and a classic monoshock absorber at the rear. If the rider is very heavy and the TTR 250 fork breaks on bumps, you can try pouring more viscous fork oil into it - this will add rigidity. But here it is important not to overdo it, otherwise the oil, after half an hour of active driving, may foam and ask to come out, squeezing out the seals.

TTR250 design

Since the model is intended for sports use, steel became the main material during development. To reduce weight and improve maneuverability (what distinguishes all Irbises), a tubular design was used.

  • Another technological feature that was supposed to reduce weight, and therefore help the rider control the “iron horse,” was thin plastic. However, it was a miscalculation by the developers and if the frame can withstand falls, then the plastic has to be changed regularly.
  • The suspension is carried out according to the standard design - an inverted telescope fork in front, a pendulum on one spring at the rear (a very stiff spring). But even such an ordinary design gives rise to criticism - the bike’s pendulum is frankly rather weak. This also includes the lack of ability to adjust any settings. And also the fact that the progression of the rear part depends only on the pitch of the springs (which probably should have affected the reduction in the cost of the motorcycle).

Powerful rear tires.

Front end

  • The first glance at the front part does not raise any questions. A fender pulled up just under the frame, and a small piece of plastic into which a small square headlight is inserted. According to users, it provides light, but it is not clear where it is directed.
  • A sporty horned bullet on clip-ons and, as a continuation of the plastic, a small panel that, in theory, should cover the missing (on the cross-country) instrument panel.
  • A more picky user will notice that the angle of rotation of the wing covers the front part of the bike, but the dirt raised by the wheel flies directly onto the air vent.

Devices

However, most resources have diagrams for installing a bicycle computer as an hour meter.

Back view

Long, sporty-sharp stem, long distance to the saddle, which is not designed for long-term sitting. And in front of him there is a large “lamb” under his arm - the gas tank cap.

  • The capacity of the latter is 8 liters. For sports equipment that will live most of the time in the team’s garage, they did not separate a reserve.
  • To the delight of the neighbors, there is no flute in the muffler, there is direct flow. The can itself hangs on the right side at approximately the level of the wheel hub.

Advantages

  • Affordable price. For the money that is being asked for a new Irbis TTR 250, any Japanese bike of the same class will be very old, and, most likely, pretty worn out.
  • Cheap spare parts and consumables. Many components are suitable from other Chinese motorcycles, and the Irbis TTR 250 has a lot of tuning even on Aliexpress.
  • If necessary, the Irbis TTR 250 can be easily repaired or serviced on your own, which eliminates the cost of motorcycle service.
  • High resource. It’s not difficult to ruin a motorcycle through improper handling, but no one has ever heard of a TTR 250 engine running out of life.

Who is this bike suitable for?

This model is initially positioned by the manufacturer as an off-road bike - for this purpose it is equipped with special tires that provide reliable traction between the wheel and the road. But they are not intended for asphalt roads, but if you do a little tuning of the Irbis TTR 125, you can use the pit bike for urban use. An important point is its full registration with government authorities as a vehicle - for this it is necessary to install turning lamps, mirrors and brake lights on the bike. This modification can please fans of free driving in places where there are no roads and never were. If you look at a review of this model on the Internet, you can see that the design is as simple as possible, but its degree of reliability is quite high. The seat is not particularly suitable for long trips, even though it is soft

Motorcycle enthusiasts should pay special attention to the build quality, since it is shipped from China disassembled and assembled in Russia in small factories. After purchase, you need to check the fastenings, lubrication of the main components and assemblies and the functionality of the motorcycle

Flaws

  • The plastic is quite fragile and often cracks when dropped. And enduro bikes in their natural habitat, that is, in forests and fields, fall quite often.
  • When driving for a long time in 1st or 2nd gear, for example, in liquid and sticky mud, the Irbis TTR 250 engine can overheat. Although there is no need to fear critical damage - long before the moment when a loud blow can be heard from the engine, marking the death of the motorcycle, the engine will begin to spread such heat around itself that it will simply be impossible not to notice it.
  • The high seat height imposes certain restrictions - short riders may find the Irbis TTR 250 uncomfortable.
  • The standard chain quickly stretches and becomes unusable. However, this problem can be easily eliminated once and for all by replacing the chain with something suitable in terms of parameters, but Japanese.

Corrosion resistance

The original chain rarely lasts long.

Rusty mono-shock absorber and swingarm elements.

Even the carburetor rusts

The frame is poorly processed, the seams begin to rust before you drive 5 hours. The twist here is that every frame is different. For some, the rust will come out immediately, for others the frame will last for quite a long time.

Front end

The front fender is raised high under the headlight, as befits a motorcycle of this class.

The front of the bike corresponds to the concepts of the enduro class.

  • The headlight is present, but, like all representatives of the class, it only illuminates the road in front of the front tire well.
  • The upper part of the body kit is tilted towards the rider, but this is more to protect the instruments from dirt than the driver.

The headlight is turned on using a regular toggle switch on the left handle. The ignition key is inserted at the bottom of the gas tank under the right hand.

Dashboard

The dashboard is designed in a minimalist style.

You won’t find a large number of devices using this technology. There is one large speedometer dial in front of the driver. Interestingly, there are marks in both km and miles.

If desired, you can install a cycling computer.

The tachometer is made in the form of a small LCD display hidden under the general speedometer glass.

Rear end

The inconvenience of sitting only appears on long trips.

  • There is enough space for two passengers; there is no division into driver/passenger.
    But the owners note that although it is possible to sit together, it is better to drive alone - the engine does not pull. Although the developers claim the opposite - no amenities are provided for the second room, no handles, no footrests, and (especially) a backrest. The design of the motorcycle is definitely designed for a single rider.
  • There is a small stem behind the saddle, but it is more likely designed as a mudguard; it has no practical use. And the location of the exhaust is almost nearby, forcing you to abandon the seat or trunk arrangement.
  • An interesting idea in the design section is to paint the side edges of the saddle in the color of the main plastic.
  • The plant offers two colors for the bike - black and red. The first has all the parts in the same tone with the exception of the chrome exhaust pipe. The second has plastic and the side edges of the saddle in red tones.
  • There are no optics at the rear.
    The back is without any lights.

Gas tank

The neck of the gas tank is in a standard place, made in the form of a large black cap with a “wing” under the arm. Fuel capacity - 3.2 liters.

Reviews from real owners

When I was looking for my first two-wheeled friend, I chose from the Chinese, since there was little money. At first the choice fell on the Flame 200, but then I decided that riding off-road at the dacha would also be fun, and I didn’t want to miss this opportunity, so in the end I took the Irbis TTR 250. A normal budget bike. In the photo it seemed smaller than it actually turned out; I could barely reach the ground with my feet. The wiring under the plastic hung anyhow, I had to rearrange it myself according to my mind. Otherwise, no complaints. Ivan, Ryazan, Irbis TTR 250 '2015.

I finally decided to buy the Irbis TTR 250 after watching a video of it on YouTube and reading reviews from the owners. The motorcycle, of course, is cheap, there are not enough stars in the sky - this is understandable, but what you pay is what you get. The main thing is to use your hands after purchasing and check the tightening torque of all the bolts - I had a couple of them that were not tightened. The wiring is flimsy, I put it in heat shrink and insulated it properly. The plastic is thin. There are no complaints about the technical part. Tuning for the Irbis TTR 250 can be found on Aliexpress, the price tag is humane. Pavel, Moscow, Irbis TTR 250 '2016.

I was looking at used Japanese cars like Djebel or Honda Baja, but only the first years of production fit into my budget. You could get an almost new snow leopard for the same money. I read the review, looked at the reviews and decided to take it. The engine, of course, is more vegetable than the Japanese 250 cc, but it’s enough. The standard light is weak, but at night no one is enduring anyway - it’s dangerous, and during the day light is not needed. The build quality is acceptable, consumption is within 3 liters on asphalt, off-road it varies. I use 92 gasoline. Artyom, Omsk, Irbis TTR 250 '2014.

In any case, buying an SUV of this type, you will not regret the investment. After all, if you wish, you can spin any figure eight on it, cut snow and mud, and even with certain training, engage in sports motorcycle acrobatics.

Main competitors

  • Kayo T4 250 Enduro. Another budget Chinese enduro, similar to the Irbis TTR 250 both in price and technical characteristics.
  • Honda XR 250R . A much more powerful motorcycle, time-tested, but its price on the secondary market is much higher than the price of the TTP 250.
  • Yamaha TTR 250 . Despite the similarity in name, this bike has nothing in common with the brainchild of the Irbis. Finding a “live” copy is not difficult, but you will have to pay more money than for an Irbis, and the bike from Yamaha will still be 10-15 years old.
  • Suzuki Djebel 250 . One of the most powerful 250 cc enduro bikes, with excellent dynamics, simple suspension and moderate weight. Not a bad option, but it’s far from a fact that it’s better than the new Irbis TTR 250, which is under warranty.

Motorcycle IRBIS TTR 110

Description IRBIS TTR 110

The IRBIS TTR110 pit bike is one of the most interesting models of the Irbis company; thanks to its simple and reliable design, it has won the hearts of many, many young drivers. The automatic transmission will allow even a beginner who has no experience driving two-wheeled vehicles to drive the TTR110.

Excellent performance in dynamics and off-road allows the TTR110 to remain among the leaders in terms of sales. The Irbis TTR110, having a small size and weighing only 64 kilograms, allows you to transport itself without using a car trailer, while still fitting into the trunk of a passenger car.

It will not be difficult to operate it, both for an adult and a teenager. The TTR110 pit bike combines not only low cost, but also amazing endurance. The motorcycle is suitable for riders no taller than 180 cm, as the saddle height is only 678 mm.

Irbis TTR110 model 2012 does not have a title and does not require registration with the traffic police, and also does not require category “A” rights; upon purchase, a refusal letter from the government of the Russian Federation and a DCP is issued. The IRBIS TTR110 pit bike is not intended for riding on public roads; in other words, it was created specifically for prepared tracks and trails.

But these restrictions in no way reduce the functionality of its use; there are no barriers to it outside public roads. Mud, snow, swamp, forest, sand and hard-to-reach places are no problem for the TTR110. Ideal for family outdoor recreation and training novice drivers.

Powerful four-stroke engine with a volume of 110 cc and 6.5 hp. easily accelerates the TTR110 to 75 km/h. Fuel tank capacity 3 liters, AI-92 gasoline. Average fuel consumption is 2 liters per 100 km.

The automatic transmission allows maximum use of engine power with optimal rotation speed and automatic smooth gear shifting in accordance with changes in the load on the motorcycle. This makes it easier to control the motorcycle, especially on rough terrain, and significantly increases the safety of its operation. Remember that operating a TTR110 motorcycle requires attention and good physical fitness from the driver. We also must not forget about the need to use protective equipment.

The Irbis TTR110 has become a real master class for the younger generation in mastering the skills of driving a motocross motorcycle. The average time to assemble out of the box is from 1.0 to 1.5 hours, all necessary tools are included.

Advantages: This motorcycle is meant for use in rural areas and difficult to pass places.

Disadvantages: When buying directly from the store, I drove to the house, on the way I discovered that the motorcycle was jerking and the fuel supply was constantly interrupted, and after stopping, gasoline was drained through the tube in considerable quantities. The service never solved the problem, without dealing with the carburetor, they simply replaced it with a new one + replaced the spark plug. In general, the spark plugs get dirty quite heavily and quickly, apparently the fuel and air supply is incorrectly calculated. Then the motorcycle simply stalled - as it turned out, the breather on the gas cap was clogged...

Review: An enduro motorcycle, not a cross-country bike, as the seller and manufacturer claim. The fact is that a weak chassis (frame, suspension) and selection of stars will not allow you to seriously race on the track. The destiny of this motorcycle is to “mess shit” in rural areas and difficult to pass places. The motorcycle cannot develop serious speed, because the 12-tooth drive sprocket provides powerful traction, but completely kills speed. The gears are short, as the instructions say 1-up to 20 km/h, 2-up to 30 km/h, 3-up to 40 km/h, 4-up to 50 km/h, all... More

Manufacturer

Irbis motorcycles are considered by most motorcycle enthusiasts to be Chinese technology, although in reality this is far from the case. The Irbis brand was created in 2001 by a group of young people from Vladivostok, who set themselves the task of creating motor vehicles that would be accessible to a wide range of buyers and capable of competing with European and Japanese counterparts. As a result, the brand's first scooter was released - Irbis Z50R.

The company began to actively develop, and in 2005 the first official office for the sale of motorcycles was opened in Moscow. The dealer network began to be created in 2006, and today it includes over two thousand centers from Kamchatka to Kaliningrad, the range of which includes 30 models of Irbis motorcycles and more than five thousand types of accessories, spare parts and equipment.

Irbis motorcycles are an ideal vehicle for both experienced riders and beginners just learning to ride. The vehicles produced by the company are adapted to difficult Russian conditions and have proven their reliability in practice. It is worth noting that the latest models of Irbis motor vehicles are produced in full accordance with the wishes of customers: feedback from customers is very important for developers.

The main advantages of the Irbis Dingo T110 snowmobile:

  1. The standard equipment includes an electric starter and a 7-amp gel battery. If necessary, the snowmobile can be started from the “pusher”.
  2. The clutch operates in an oil bath for better reliability and minimal wear of parts.
  3. The gearbox has built-in reverse (reverse), which increases maneuverability and ease of movement in tight areas. For example, thanks to reverse, you can “crawl” out of a snowdrift without any problems. To do this, just turn on the reverse gear and drive back along your own trail.
  4. Wide tracks mounted on a hybrid suspension not only improve cross-country ability, but also increase load capacity. As a result, the vehicle is capable of carrying up to 500 kg of cargo. A suspension with such tracks is characterized by maneuverability, strength, smoothness and softness on uneven roads. There will also be no inconvenience at a 30-degree elevation.
  5. The track material is rubber-fabric on a cast basis, reinforced with steel rods and Kevlar material. These components highlight the durability of the track, which excels over obstacles such as bumps, depressions and branches.
  6. The Irbis Dingo T110 snowmobile uses an ATV chain as a drive chain. This chain has a triple safety margin.
  7. The presence of an electronic speedometer allows you to display information not only about speed and mileage, but also the remaining time until the next maintenance.
  8. Hydraulic disc brakes are standard.
  9. Ability to connect external accessories and gadgets (using a 12V cigarette lighter)
  10. Double saddle configuration for driver and passenger. The width varies between 35-45 cm. The seat has a spacious trunk in which you can place an ice auger, skis, tents, as well as other hunting and tourist equipment.
  11. Options include a car park that allows you to tow trailers, which are equipped with built-in tail lights. If necessary, a case and an additional container with gasoline are installed in the rear of the snowmobile. It is also possible to install roll bars and a special instrument panel.
  12. The Irbis Dingo T110 snowmobile has a durable frame structure, reinforced with profile pipes. The pipes are made in the form of a central and side truss - this arrangement ensures that ice and snow never accumulate in it - both during winter thaw, and during spring melting, as well as when driving in deep snowdrifts.
  13. The function of adjusting the height of the steering wheel, as well as the ability to change the angle of the longitudinal axis of the skis, is the prerogative of the basic configuration, aimed at improving maneuverability and controllability. In addition, thanks to the rational adjustment of the working steering elements, the driver is less distracted and tired when driving for many hours.
  14. To strengthen the engine compartment of the frame, steel strips are installed, which makes it possible to equip the snowmobile with more powerful motors of a certain weight, up to 85 kg.
  15. The maximum speed is 40 km/h. Since the engine displacement exceeds 100 cc. m., there is a need to register with Gostekhnadzor.
  16. The manufacturer provides a warranty of six months or 1000 kilometers.

Advantages

  • pistons with wear-resistant Teflon coating;
  • ceramic heat-resistant coating of cylinders;
  • enlarged carburetor diffuser for forced engine operation;
  • adjustable ignition timing, allowing you to tune the engine to different operating modes and types of gasoline;
  • double winding ignition coil;
  • enlarged valves in the cylinder head, ensuring durability in the operation of the distribution mechanism;
  • carburetor petal valves, which save fuel and increase power by filtering the mixture from exhaust gases.

The valve springs of the IRBIS TTR 250 motorcycle are made using galvanic coating technology with a stainless steel compound. The engine weight is reduced due to aluminum flywheels. Increased clutch reliability is ensured by two sets of springs of different elasticity.
