Second Passenger Seat for BRP Ski-Doo Summit, Renegade, MXZ, Freeride, GSX, BackCountry, Tundra, Scandic

With the release of the REV platform, Ski-Doo disrupted the snowmobile industry and snatched the championship from Polaris. But that doesn't mean the Canadian manufacturer will now sit back and let a new Polaris slogan or concept tarnish the reputation of its best-selling brand. This won't happen, at least not without a serious fight.

Ski-Doo Renegade XRS 800 etec

Let's take a look at the mountain snowmobile market. Polaris has released a super lightweight deep snow mountain sled, teasing Ski-Doo. And this season, Ski-Doo responded with dignity by releasing the powerful, lightweight, grippy T3 Summit Series models. They not only caught up with their competitor, but also surpassed them.

Ski-Doo managed to surprise where it would seem that all niches were occupied: for the segment of sports and touring snowmobiles, they released the advanced ACE 900 4-stroke engine with a “smart” key and several operating modes. At the time of its release, there was only one competitor on the market—Yamaha with a line of models based on the Phazer platform with a 4-stroke 500 cc engine. Ski-Doo has made a comeback in the entry-level market by replacing its 55-horsepower 2-cylinder fan-powered Rotax engine with the modern, fuel-efficient 4-stroke 2-cylinder ACE 600. In three seasons, the 60-horsepower ACE has successfully replaced the Rotax 550 in all of the manufacturer's budget models. . Thus, Ski-Doo showed its readiness for competitive pricing, which significantly strengthened the company's presence in this market segment.

All this is said to mean that a serious war is brewing between Polaris and Ski-Doo, the results of which we will see on the podiums in dealerships. Polaris has developed a new AXYS chassis, which also powers the 800 Switchback Pro-X, designed to handle challenging terrain. Until this season, Ski-Doo did not have a snowmobile that could compete with this model. You can, of course, consider the Backcountry or Freeride series, but this is not the same. It is not known how Ski-Doo figured out the Polaris's move, but the 2015 Ski-Doo Renegade XRS 800 is a worthy alternative to the Polaris Pro-X.

The short track Ski-Doo MXZ XRS is designed for serious off-road use, while the long track Renegade XRS is a serious all-around performance sled. Like the sporty MXZ XRS, the Renegade XRS is well equipped and makes you wonder if you can handle the power.

One of the most talked about new products of 2015 was the AXYS chassis with a well-balanced seat. Why did Polaris decide to go this route? They needed to come out with something new and advanced to compete with Ski-Doo's still-improving REV platform. The REV chassis was first released in 2006 on the MXZ X, but the 2006 REV platform has moved on much further by 2015. The names may not change, but the functionality changes significantly. And it is the ever-evolving REV platform that competitors from Polaris have set their sights on. They've done a great job and achieved a great result, but the 2015 Renegade XRS 800 is a very strong competitor that will leave impartial buyers scratching their heads when choosing a snowmobile.

Engine

All versions of the Renegade 800 differ from the competition in terms of engine performance. The 2-stroke ETEC engine is genius. It combines all the advantages (cleanliness and environmental friendliness) of 4-stroke engines with the rapid acceleration, lightness and electronic controllability of 2-stroke engines. These Rotax motors are economical, environmentally friendly, and don't smell as bad. With the proven TRA drive pulley, the engine starts at 3800 rpm and revs to 7900 rpm. You'll appreciate the smoothness and responsiveness of the ETEC engine in tight corners.

The 800cc twin-cylinder engine sends more than 160 hp to a 137-inch Ripsaw track that spins around an updated rMotion rear suspension. While Polaris focused on the design of its new Pro-XC suspension, Ski-Doo installed easily adjustable shocks, springs and links for better weight transfer. The rear axle has four wheels for maximum traction and successful landings over bumps.

2013 Ski-Doo Renegade X 800 Review

New reckless driver from Ski-Doo

The snow is approaching, people are getting ready to ride, and one thing is becoming clear: the idea of a powerful hybrid (sport/mountain) snowmobile has changed a lot in recent years. Fans of fast driving are no longer looking for a nimble car with a short track. Such snowmobiles are still in service, but newfangled hybrid machines combine the style and power of their “short” counterparts with an extended track and new elements in ergonomics and control. And that's where the Ski-Doo Renegade X 800 comes to the fore - at full throttle!

Ski-Doo promotional materials cover what their fans already know. The Renegade combines the impressive performance of the base MXZ with the off-road capabilities of a long-track mountain sled. Of course, there were some compromises. The MXZ, with its short track, corners a little better and faster, and is also generally more agile, which real snow riding aces will appreciate. But still, the Renegade X with its 137-inch track is a chic combination snowmobile.

The Renegade X 800 with its extended track is one of the representatives of the new generation of currently popular powerful combination snowmobiles.

The secret to the popularity of this new type of snowmobile is simple. They perform just as well as the MXZ on well-packed trails, but the increased track length and wheelbase give sport-riding enthusiasts the ability to confidently overcome those bumps that arise after snowmobiles have been driving along the trail all day. And in sharp turns, these machines are almost as nimble as aggressive snowmobiles with smaller tracks. We like that the increased snow traction area helps keep the track from slipping and acting up if you give it too much throttle in corners. Young, hot riders may not notice it, but snowmobile veterans will appreciate the extra traction.

The rMotion suspension is easily and quickly adjusted using footpeg-mounted adjusters.

In fact, the X version of the Renegade may not be available now as it was an early order sled. However, if you can find it, don’t miss it under any circumstances. The sled features the same "XS" styling as the MXZ "X". This means you'll get a chic, aggressive new body style that makes the 2013 model stand out from its predecessors. But more importantly, the Renegade X features the latest version of the rMotion rear suspension introduced last season. The 2012 Renegade lacked it, a Ski-Doo marketing mistake that has since been corrected. Of course, BRP might not have known that the extended track would become so popular, but on the MXZ and Renegade it is a success. The setup definitely works, and the rMotion suspension and footpeg-mounted adjusters make this sled something truly special. With them, setup is much easier and faster. Plus, this is a good opportunity to respond to your friends - especially those who ride a Polaris Rush or the new Switchback. Essentially, rMotion and the Polaris suspension do the same thing, just in different ways. Plus, we're confident that rMotion is much easier to adjust on the go. And without tools!

The Ski-Doo Renegade X 800 features a 16-inch-wide track with 1.25-inch-high lugs for improved traction and flotation.

We admit that we like both of these suspension systems: the new Polaris system and the Ski-Doo rMotion. The rMotion installed on the X version is very easy to use and literally provokes the driver to adjust it to suit himself. The concept is reminiscent of the simplicity of early Ski-Doo Torque Reaction, equipped with multi-level adjustment units that adjusted the torsion spring settings. rMotion is a more advanced system, of course, but just as easy to use. Quick adjustment of springs, shock absorbers and connecting block can be done without tools. rMotion is a great addition to the flexible nature of the sled.

Renegade embodies a new subtype of snowmobile, from which drivers expect serious high-speed performance and excellent handling in corners. In addition, those who like more aggressive riding will appreciate the good maneuverability of the snowmobile with its single-ply 137-inch track. By comparison, the MXZ track is 17 inches shorter and one inch narrower.

Rotax engineers worked with Evinrude to create a direct injection engine aimed at snowmobiles.

The only right choice for true reckless drivers is the 800 cc 2-stroke 2-cylinder engine from Rotax with direct injection. Say what you want, but this is a masterpiece of engineering. Working with Evinrude, a team of Ski-Doo and Rotax specialists adapted technologies provided by BRP to create a sled capable of producing 163 horsepower. at 1 gallon/19 miles! Other benefits we noted include good oil consumption, responsive throttle, and smooth power delivery worthy of a 4-stroke engine. So 2 stroke or 4 stroke? If you've been thinking about the latter option, the Rotax E-TEC might make you reconsider.

Among other things, the 2013 Renegade X boasts one nice feature - a heated glove compartment. The idea of a small storage box near the windshield is not new; Polaris and Arctic Cat have already done this. But here, the heat from the engine helps keep an extra pair of safety glasses or gloves dry and warm.

Among the external changes, it is worth noting a windshield with side deflectors, as well as dual air intakes near the headlights and improved protection from wind and snow. The multi-function instrument panel displaying speed, rpm and temperature has also been updated.

The Ski-Doo Renegade X features a 137-inch, 16-inch wide Ripsaw track for superior flotation.

We can't say we're crazy about the straight aluminum handlebars and J-bars, but they get the job done. It would be nice to see a more modern and comfortable handlebar design like Yamaha or Arctic Cat, but the current design handles this powerful sled effectively.

The 2013 Renegade X 800 E-TEC marks the beginning of what we believe is a new and one of the most popular types of snowmobiles. The overall design promotes race-like riding on packed snow with the ability to handle large bumps. The Renegade X is a great example of a combination snowmobile that combines the benefits of sport and mountain models. With a powerful Rotax 2-cylinder engine and rMotion suspension, the Renegade X is an excellent choice for serious drivers. If you can't find the X version, check out the publicly available Renegade Adrenaline with rMotion and 800cc twin-cylinder engine. It's not built on the XS platform, and it doesn't have the high-end HPG Plus R shocks. But it's a worthy alternative if you don't want to wait and order a 2014 Model X.

Suspension and handling

One of the most notable new additions to the 2015 Renagade is the RAS2 front suspension. This is not just an advertising slogan. This is a significant improvement that perfectly complements the rMotion rear suspension and significantly improves the snowmobile's handling in all types of snow. The suspension features all-new suspension geometry, lightweight components and, in the case of the XRS, KYB Pro 40 compression-adjustable racing shock absorbers. Who would have thought that a new front suspension could improve the ride of all snowmobiles that use it so much?

When it comes to performance sleds, the key considerations are power, suspension and handling. Comfort and convenience are, of course, important for such a model with a racing heritage, but not in the first place. Still, the Renegade XRS features a stylish, narrow REV-XP X seat that lets you get up and down while riding. There is a small storage space under the seat along with a glove compartment.

When it comes to styling, the XRS is a real eye-catcher with its bright yellow-orange color scheme and racing-car-like lettering. The hand guards on the handlebars are made of transparent material and provide excellent protection from wind and branches. The snowmobile has a multifunctional instrument panel with a customizable three-zone LCD display. An optional electric starter is available, and Ski-Doo's renowned Rotax Electronic Reverse is standard. Of course, there are plenty of accessories available for a sled, but would you want to add weight to a racing sled that's built on the motto "less pounds, more power"?

With the arrival of the Polaris AXYS and Pro-X snowmobiles on the market, the new 2015 Ski-Doo Renegade XRS 800 may not get the attention it deserves. But know that this is a worthy representative of the family of powerful crossovers, which feels confident even on the biggest bumps and snowdrifts, especially with the new RAS2 suspension. The Ski-Doo Renegade XRS 800 is definitely a success. However, keep in mind that this is a really serious sled.

My motorcycle

Rides on the BRP Renegade 800R.

What can we say about Renegade, the most powerful, fastest quad in the world (at least it was so for 2 years). Now there seems to be a liter Artik Kat, but I haven’t seen it...

Well, here's my little story:

Saturday! The weather was super, very warm for the 20th of the second autumn month, as usual we left late (it was very difficult to leave after Friday), while we were stingy - we went for 2 days, while I loaded, secured, refueled, hooked up the trailer with a quad, finally left , the drive is only 150 km, but for the hard-working Mazda with its 2.5 liter engine and the windage of the wings, the ReneGada is cruising and the optimal speed is 110 km on a cruise... 2 hours of walking and we are there, I run to change clothes and wait for my partner, who is also barely coming to see me after Friday... Well, I’m finally putting on a helmet (and I’m amazed at how much fumes I’m in) the day before my brother’s birthday was celebrated in the bathhouse with a group of 12 people, they devoured a bowl of whiskey and a pool of beer... We just drove a couple of kilometers from home like Dimon I slowed down for some reason, got off the car and repaired the puncture of the rear right wheel...... a hundred-nail came out of the wheel and we had no choice but to return, load the quad on the trailer and go to the nearest Kulibin so that he could insert the tire... Back and forth, In short, we lost a fair amount of time, we didn’t have to plan on a serious route, but we still got to the Blue (based on the color of the water) lakes, rode through the mountains, drove back and forth home and got lost, but it was already a bit dark, I just know that place a little It was more difficult to navigate in the dark, and for some reason I didn’t take the navigator, like it’s not far, I don’t need it, well, after meeting with local natives, I realized that we had lost about 20 kilometers away, intuitively I clearly set out on the way back! Day 2, Sunday - rest. After a short discussion, a complex and difficult route to the Kharkov province was chosen, the length was relatively short - 120 kilometers, but we left at 14:00, and it was getting dark quite early now, so we drove quickly, the bumps became bigger the further we went... Very beautiful... We drove all the time along the Seversky-Donets River and sometimes the Mesa tributaries were an obstacle on our way, which we overcame, constantly stopping for a smoke break and to admire the new area and beautiful nature... After 42 km I had the feeling that maybe before we got here earlier no one has been? Well, even if I have been, I’m unlikely to have passed it by transport... we drive further and then Dima looms something for me, I turn my head and see Roe Deer! about two hundred meters away, there was no gun, but I wanted to chase the beast: we split up, but never found it! It’s strange because there’s a river right there, it’s unlikely that it swam across it, and it was definitely a local goat that disappeared somewhere, the goat was oriented correctly - they couldn’t find it! The day before I tried to crush the bunnies with such a damn ground clearance - everyone was running under the bottom... Next time I’ll grab a gun! And then the swamp appeared before us, in all its glory! it seems small, and not deep, Dimas barely got in and out of it, but didn’t move, well, I think I’ll show you how to do it, turn it on full, I didn’t want to get dirty, I’m on the sly, but the swamp is treacherous, soft dirt sucks in the quadric, the tread clogs , making it slippery, well, in short, 2 meters from the target, I sat down very unwillingly, skidded a couple of times, and was covered in mud, fortunately the winch was ready, we tried to reach Brutus - it didn’t pull, we had to hit a tree, the quadric walked slowly but confidently towards the goal. The tree, crackling treacherously, did not inspire any confidence, but when I left, both the quad and I were in the mud and I was still thinking about washing, I decided that if I washed it, then I wouldn’t have to spare the powder and immediately began to cross this swamp lengthwise and crosswise, I’ll post photos and videos of how this happened and the consequences of the mud baths, having had a good time riding around, we decided to go home, since it was already dark(... Having arrived home, my beloved woman almost killed me while starting to wash my equipment, she only took 45 minutes to work on the helmet, I naturally The washing machine also helped and was very helpful, surprisingly everything was washed off and cleaned up, the next day it took an hour and a half and my all-terrain vehicle again acquired its toxic color, having lost 50 kilograms and clogging the drain at the car wash... I got a lot of emotions from this trip and spent a lot of energy - in this there is something!
