This was achieved due to the high-quality and accurate distribution of the entire mass of the ATV throughout the structure. Effective grip on any surface is ensured by high lugs on the tires.

Overcoming a difficult section is largely influenced by the transmission. This model, in addition to several operating modes, provides plug-in all-wheel drive, but as you know, constant driving with all-wheel drive does not have the best effect on fuel consumption and therefore, if not necessary, the driver can switch the transmission from all-wheel drive to 2x4 mode. The front center differential is locked automatically in the event of wheel slip. This further increases the vehicle's maneuverability and controllability.

The standard equipment includes a large number of different options that make driving the ATV as convenient and efficient as possible. Among these, it is necessary to highlight the presence of:

True, this is not the highest figure, but the ATV still passes any obstacles and is not afraid of mountains, mud, snow, swamps and rough terrain.

The suspension has a magnificent architecture and is created on a special platform. Therefore, the ATV does not squat during acceleration and does not respond to braking. The front suspension is equipped with A-arms, its clearance is 22.9 cm, and this is the optimal indicator for such a unit. The rear independent suspension is equipped with a travel of 22 cm. There are no complaints about it from those who have ridden an ATV. So the technical characteristics are at a decent level.

The tires are durable and have a deep tread that can withstand mud and swamps. With them you are not afraid of wet surfaces, because the grip on the road is excellent. Tires are four-ply, 25 inches in diameter. With them it is easy to climb mountains, storm rivers, ride along various roads and impassable trails. Despite the fact that the tires are not the largest, they cover mountain distances with a bang. With it you don’t have to go around the first stones you come across, you can easily overcome them, and even large obstacles will not become a hindrance or tear the durable rubber on your tires. In a word, extreme trips are not scary with such tires, plus they give the appearance of the ATV greater brutality and confidence.

On the test

So how did he perform?

The start of our test route for the Can-Am Outlander 1000R XT was a mixture of sand, rock, roots and tree-lined routes. The route to the top of Mount Quist included incredible rock gardens interspersed with narrow ruts like ranch roads, giving us the opportunity to test the performance of each of the iTC mode maps.

ATV power

We started the day with a Can-Am Outlander 650. While this ATV is quite powerful in its own right, it doesn't compare to its big brother's 91 horsepower. Stepping into the new 2019 Can-Am Outlander 1000R XT was nothing short of shocking as it was set to Sport mode. To get the full range of sensations from each riding mode, we quickly switched to work mode. The operating mode is very soft as it limits the power supply. This is an excellent solution, both for a learning driver and for a friend who does not control emotions and can go so far as to joyfully twist the gas. The reduced power key will also help with such a friend. Work mode is also useful, you guessed it right, with work. Smooth and predictable throttle control is great for those buying this beast to pull a slatted trailer or any other task that requires power and control. Or this is how they justify the purchase to their significant other. We don't judge.

Route driving is comfortable when driving in work mode, but after just a few seconds we switched to standard settings. The Can-Am Outlander 1000R XT's standard iTC mode delivers plenty of controllable power for general trail riding or light towing. The power delivery is very soft and smooth, but it increases with the speed. Although we know that power is delivered in stages, while riding it was not clear how much power was added/lost at each stage. Riding on the narrow, tree-lined trails near the base that day showed that we liked the standard mode. It seems to make the Outlander more controllable on rough, difficult terrain. And on more open routes, it's time to get down to business and switch the iTC to Sport mode.

This small, seemingly tiny switch opens up a whole new world of power delivery. The terrain became just Outlander's playground and everything was under control. The new suspension design showed itself excellently there. The use of the new curved front suspension, as well as the eleven-inch ground clearance, gave us all the advantages and we simply rolled over rocks, roots and the occasional downed tree or stump. A quick maneuver in the Outlander showed that handling is key to this ATV, and anyone willing to go all out will feel right at home.

ATV control

Handling an ATV approaching 850 pounds is quite a challenge. With chassis roll limited thanks to a new and improved stabilizer bar and an overall re-design of the width, the new Can-Am Outlander 1000R XT is not only more predictable in corners, but handling is noticeably improved. Can-Am has developed not only a powerful ATV, but also equipped it with various properties.

We haven't mentioned the tri-mode DPS on this quad. Steering felt very smooth and obstacles in the road in the form of rocks or roots did not affect our hands through the steering wheel. The preferred mode for such driving is maximum. This setup will give you superior handling, but you will still feel the track under your wheels. Did we mention that a fender flare is now standard on the Outlander? They also changed the ends of the bumpers to steel, and got rid of the plastic caps on the ends. This should make those who like to crash into everything along the way happy!

If you look closely at what Can-Am is trying to build, it's clear they want to stand out.

Can-Am has reason to be proud of its contributions because the Can-Am Outlander 1000R XT is a top-of-the-line ATV. This ride was a ton of fun and it would be smart of you to go to your local dealer and take one for a ride. But be prepared to curl up in your seat because it's simply incredible.

The main purpose of the acquisition was the need for transport for hunting trips and simple riding. The model is truly worth the investment. The first impressions were simply indescribable, since the ATV pleased us with its high cross-country ability, clear and responsive controls, attractive design, although not entirely original, as well as optimal fuel consumption. The car feels great on slopes, on snow and sticky soils.

I bought it in new condition and during the run-in I often noticed creaking and other various sounds. Some elements are not connected tightly enough, which is why they dangle when shaken, although not much. But such little things are characteristic of any technology. Overall the car is quite good, I especially liked the maneuverability and landing.

Comparison with competitors

Buyers choosing an ATV face a difficult choice. The BRP company has released two similar series: Can Am Outlander 1000 and Renegade 1000. The devices of both lines are very similar in technical terms, but differ significantly in price. The utilitarian 1000 XT, released in 2022, costs around 1,500,000-1,600,000 rubles, and the Renegade can be ordered for only 800,000 rubles. However, the Outlander has better cross-country ability. The Renegade Sport model is not designed for rough trails or wet terrain.

The BRP Outlander 1000 ATV is also seriously competing with the Scrambler XP 1000, created by the American company Polaris. A stylish device with a predatory design, more powerful than Canadian technology. Under the hood of the American lies 89 hp, which is 7 hp more than in the 1000 XT model. The Scrambler XP 1000 has another tangible advantage - price. The Polaris device costs approximately 1,250,000-1,300,000 rubles.
