- Honda motorcycle model
The Honda Shadow 750 series of cruisers begins its history in 1983 with the introduction of the Honda NV750 Custom model, which was available in the North American and Japanese markets. In 1986, the motorcycle changed its name to Shadow 750, being updated technically and visually. The model of that time was quite heavily boosted (which is typical for all Japanese cruisers of those years), producing up to 66 hp. power. These versions are present at Japanese auctions, but due to their age, there are not many of them.
In 1997, the first version entered the market with the name Honda VT750 Shadow in the American Classic Edition (ACE) modification, which began the rapid growth of the model’s popularity. The modification featured classic American features with deep fenders, wide spoked wheels and chain drive. At the same time, an internal Japanese modification was released - the Honda Shadow 400.
In 2000, the Shadow 750 line was replenished with a new modification - the Honda VT750DC Shadow Spirit. In Japan it was sold under the name Slasher, and in Europe - Black Widow. The model featured short fenders, a thin 19′ front wheel and a smaller fuel tank (13 liters instead of 14 liters in the ACE). Otherwise, the motorcycle was equipped with the same engine, chain drive and two carburetors.
In 2003, the Honda VT750C Shadow ACE modification finally left the market, giving way to the new Honda VT750C Aero. The new model received many technical changes regarding ergonomics, overall dimensions, front suspension, engine, intake system (using one carburetor instead of two) and drive (instead of a chain, the model received a cardan and changed gearbox ratios).
In 2007, the Honda VT750DC Shadow Spirit (Slasher, Black Widow) modification leaves the market, giving way to the new Honda VT750C2 Shadow Spirit. The model visually resembles the previous modification, but is equipped with a 21′ front wheel, electronic fuel injection (since 2008, 1 carburetor in 2007), cardan drive and a 14-liter tank. The Aero modification gets an injector.
In 2009, another modification appeared - the Honda VT750C2B Phantom. In some countries it was sold under the name Black Spirit. Despite the similarity of the name with the Honda VT750C2 Shadow Spirit, the Phantom modification is not related to it, but is a version of the Aero in black, straight handlebars and short fenders. The Aero modification includes versions with ABS.
In 2010, another modification was introduced - the Honda VT750RS Shadow. In the Japanese market it was sold as the Honda VT750S. Visually reminiscent of the classic Honda VRX400. The Shadow 750 differs from the entire line in its shortened wheelbase, increased seat height, increased ground clearance, practically the lowest curb weight (second only to the NV750 Custom), a 10-liter fuel tank and a chain drive.
In 2013, the RS modification leaves the market, and the Honda VT750C2 Shadow Spirit receives a version with ABS (designated VT750C2S). 2015 was the last year of production of the Honda VT750C2 Shadow Spirit modification.
Currently, only the Aero and Phantom versions are present in the production line.

Honda Shadow VT750CTraveling is a calm state of mind, and you can maintain it during the journey, no matter what happens. The Shadow VT750C will help with this with its brilliant style and pulsating energy. You will enjoy the ride. The beautiful liquid-cooled V-twin engine accelerates the bike with ease, while the clean, quiet exhaust purrs softly beneath you. The only view above the steering wheel is the wide, inviting road ahead, with no road signs or wires separating you from the horizon. Open the throttle and enjoy the unstoppable power. Could an easy life be any sweeter? With the Shadow, it doesn't matter where the road takes you, because with this bike it's always fun.
Honda's American Custom motorcycles have an excellent reputation for combining comfort, style, excellent performance and, at the same time, ease of riding for riders of all sizes, all at a very reasonable price. Not too big and not too small, the Shadow and Shadow Spirit provide plenty of power for quick acceleration, accompanied by the soothing sound of a mid-size V-twin engine. Huge power and lightning-fast acceleration are generally not the most significant demands of motorcyclists in this segment. Instead, classic motorcycles are designed to provide pure enjoyment on the open road, where you sit back, relax, contemplate and feel great. Their power manifests decisively and effortlessly. Their size, weight and proportions are ideal for a wide range of riders, while the low seat is attractive to smaller riders, especially girls.
The Shadow was introduced in 2004 as the latest version of this model - an attractive combination of classic and modern styles. The motorcycle's retro heritage is reflected in the deep-set fenders, fat tires, unusually low saddle-shaped seat and chrome front fork tubes that convey an attractive and timeless retro look. With a sufficient number of options, this model occupies a fairly high position among motorcycles with a similar engine size. But still, this model cannot become a full-fledged alternative to sports motorcycles with liter engines, but it is certainly more advantageous in terms of insurance and maintenance costs. The Shadow appeals to both new and experienced riders thanks to its comfort, long and low profile, ease of handling and low price. With enhanced desirability at its core, the Shadow, while improving performance and reducing emissions thanks to Honda's latest fuel injection technology, gains a host of significant enhancements that further enhance its exceptional sense of style, comfort and effortless handling. . For those who share a deep reverence for the experience of riding a motorcycle, the new Shadow provides the optimal way to meet the challenges of the road.

Power comes from a liquid-cooled 750cc V-twin engine, similar to the one currently used in the Shadow Spirit, allowing for quick acceleration with a light twist of the throttle. The power of the pulsating torque is felt directly through the seat. The shaft drive system ensures that the Shadow is as easy to maintain as it is to operate. The Shadow's appeal is also complemented by one of the lowest seat heights in the Cruiser class, allowing your foot to touch the ground easily, providing easy, secure handling that shorter drivers will appreciate. Based on a superior basic configuration, this model differs from the previous Shadow by having the following features:
- New PGM-FI fuel injection system with HECS3 emission reduction system.
- An attractive new dual muffler that accentuates the V-twin engine's strokes.
- More comfortable steering wheel position.
- Modified front disc brake.
Strongly recessed front and rear fenders highlight the distinctive look, and taper towards the lower edges to create an instantly recognizable look.
This look is further enhanced by chrome engine accents, a straight rear mudguard, new indicator panels, and even a license plate bezel, all highlighted by an attractive new split-stage muffler that runs rearward along the lower right side. The Shadow's classic, long, low, and sculpted lines are complemented by a massive pair of large, shielded front fork tubes that wrap around the wide-profile front tire and feature a shimmering metallic sheen. Mounted on shiny galvanized and rubber-coated spoked wheels, the Shadow's wide-profile tires provide another touch of retro Cruiser styling that seems to span decades.
New, more attractive and comfortable steering wheel
The new Shadow features an eye-catching new pair of cast and polished aluminum handlebar tubes mounted on a large cast aluminum fork upper triple clamp. Rubberized vertical tips effectively absorb most high-frequency vibrations felt at the handlebar. The handlebar itself has been offset compared to the previous Shadow model, the handlebars are now moved forward 16mm, they are 17mm higher and 26mm closer to each other for a more comfortable grip on the handlebar, which reduces wrist strain and improves comfort on long trips. This new position also provides a more natural arm angle for better maneuverability at low speeds.
New instrument panel design
As always, from a driver's perspective, the Shadow's wide, beautifully curved fuel tank plays a major role in the Shadow's design. The new fuel tank with a larger capacity of 14.6 liters (up from 14 liters) is combined with the improved efficiency of the new injection system and allows you to increase the driving distance without refueling the Shadow. On the upper edge of the tank, a large, attractive chrome speedometer unit is visible, integrating all the gauges and indicator lights, creating a streamlined new neo-retro design. A large diameter dial with a fully electronic speedometer is a signature feature of the new design, which provides clear visibility at cruising speeds while managing to remain out of line of sight when the driver's attention is focused on the road. The offset indicator lights include a new low fuel tank indicator that is mounted into the upper fork clamp where it is sure to be noticed.
Road lighting
The Shadow VTX headlight features a flawlessly polished oblong bullet-shaped shell that provides precise focus and outstanding illumination of the night road.
Individual sitting
The Shadow's wide, plush seat is one of the lowest and most comfortable in its class, giving drivers of all sizes and driving experience easy contact with the ground for confidence when stopping.
The responsive, liquid-cooled V-twin engine in the Shadow is based on a reliable old Honda engine. Essentially the same unit that has provided consistent, reliable power to all of Honda's 750cc V-twin cruiser motorcycles for many years, its single overhead camshaft cylinder heads feature dual spark plugs for greater combustion efficiency and instantaneous increasing traction. The long stroke crankshaft configuration combines with the extra crankshaft and generator mass to deliver an exhilarating feeling of pulsating power and allows peak torque to be achieved at lower rpm that enhances the feeling of engine power. The large diameter main shaft provides significant structural strength and guaranteed reliability.
Although the engine is liquid-cooled for excellent performance and reliability, its solid aluminum cylinders feature die-cast fins that create the look and feel of a traditional air-cooled engine, adding to the attractiveness and simplicity of the design.
New electronic fuel injection system PGM-FI
To achieve smooth and powerful performance, reliable starting, lower fuel consumption and cleaner Euro-3 performance, the new Shadow is equipped with Honda's latest PGM-FI electronic fuel injection system. The system includes throttle valves, which provide an idle air valve that precisely controls the volume of incoming air to maintain smooth idle performance. The fully digital fuel control system ensures low fuel consumption for even longer trips between refuelings.
With the new electronic fuel injection system, the Shadow's engine response is smooth and predictable. Its power comes through with a pleasant build-up of pulsating acceleration even from low revs, and the engine responds to the slightest throttle response with impressive power and plenty of torque. The increased performance of the engine in the low to mid speed range and the gearbox in combination with the driveshaft will provide the deepest pleasure of powerful acceleration at any speed.
New exhaust system
The eye-catching new split exhaust pipes extend back along the engine and frame, while the mesmerizing high-gloss, smoothly polished chrome enhances the bike's classic styling.
Reduced harmful emissions in accordance with Euro-3 standards
To reduce environmental harm, each Shadow tailpipe is equipped with its own oxygen sensor, which transmits information to the fuel injection system to precisely control emissions through the catalytic element. Both of these HECS3 components provide low emissions, which fully meets the strict EURO-3 emission limits while maintaining the characteristic sound of a V-twin engine.
The foundation of the well-balanced chassis is the lightweight, rigid twin steel frame first introduced in the 2007 Shadow Spirit and designed to provide a lower overall chassis height, larger seat sizes and larger fuel tank capacity. Also distinctive to the design is the molded seat beam support frame, which supports the large, classic, deep-set rear fender.
Inner feeling of power
The feeling of the pulsating engine powerfully picking up speed is an integral part of the ride. The new Shadow frame delivers that feeling, thanks to a gearbox with just enough initial vibration to feel the thrilling rumble of acceleration that never gets old.
Providing light, responsive handling while commanding attention with its rugged, sleek retro look, the massive new Shadow fork offers a full 116mm of axle travel to soften road imperfections for confident handling in all driving situations. The fork support tubes are held in place by a massive aluminum upper clamp, which creates a distinctive look and shimmering metal sheen that complements the imposing appearance of the chrome fork and headlight.
The rear suspension includes a pair of chrome-plated conventional shock absorbers supporting the rear driveline swingarm. The shock absorbers are angled forward for better performance, which helps maintain a soft ride and confident handling. Both rear shock absorbers have five stages of spring pre-adjustment to ensure the best setting for weight and road conditions.
Wide tires, chrome wheels and impressive brakes
For 2008, the front brake has moved from the left side of the wheel to the right to compensate for the weight of the new dual exhaust system and ensure optimal weight distribution and gyroscopic effect for even better steering and smooth, effortless control. Its responsive dual-piston hydraulic caliper grips the wide rotor with ceramic pads for confident braking.
Traditional main and auxiliary drum brakes provide fast braking. Even the foot-operated rear brake pedal contributes to the Shadow's simple, uncomplicated appearance, hidden from view behind the edge of the engine.
Honda Ignition Safety System (HISS)
The ignition switch is programmed to operate with only the two keys that originally come with each motorcycle. Because the engine is completely shut down at the heart of the digital ignition system, no other key can turn the lock or start the engine, and the motorcycle cannot be locked or stolen. The flashing red LED indicator on the tank-mounted instrument panel deters potential thieves with its signals.

Price
Cruiser and touring motorcycles are rated slightly lower than sports and racing bikes. Nevertheless, particularly advanced Japanese-made models (and the Honda 750 is one of these) can cost a lot of money. The Honda Shadow 750 motorcycle, the price of which ranges from 80-495 thousand rubles, can be purchased either used or new. There are a sufficient number of different machines on the market.
In this case, special attention should be paid to the year of manufacture of the motorcycle and its current technical condition. It should be taken into account that repairing a bike is very expensive and the amounts that will be spent on paying for original spare parts and qualified work to replace worn parts may well be comparable to the price of a new car. Before buying a motorcycle, you need to make an economic calculation.
Honda Shadow 750: characteristics
All components of the motorcycle are mounted on a steel tubular frame:
- front suspension - telescopic fork, travel amplitude - 116 mm;
- rear pendulum suspension with hydraulic shock absorbers, travel - within 90 mm;
- front disc brake, ventilated (diameter - 296 mm), with hydraulic drive;
- rear disc brake (diameter - 180 mm), with hydraulic drive;
- safety - ABS anti-lock brake system;
- front wheel size - 120/90 17 64S;
- rear wheel, size - 160/80 15 74S;
- maximum speed - 152 km/h.
Motorcycles and politics
As soon as the American government realized that the new Japanese bike could outshine their Harley Davidson and simply force it out of the market, the alarm immediately sounded. State duties on foreign-made motorcycles with an engine capacity exceeding 700 cc were urgently invented. cm, and since the Honda Shadow 750 ideally fell within these standards, its path to the USA was closed.
The Japanese got around this ban effortlessly; they began to import spare parts under contracts into America (completely duty-free) and assemble their motorcycle in American workshops. It was not difficult to find small producers in sufficient quantities. When the US Department of Foreign Trade figured out what was what, it was too late. Honda Shadow 750 motorcycles have already been roaming the roads of American states with might and main, and on completely legal grounds.
And it must be said that the Japanese really gave serious competition to his brother named “Harley Davidson”. True, at first the Japanese engineers made a dissatisfied face because the speedometer dial of their cruiser contained information in miles, in the American style, but they soon came to terms with it. Otherwise, things went well; the Japanese Harley Davidson twin appealed to discerning Americans, and its sales more than doubled in a year. The Honda 750 was distinguished by its elegant lines, relatively quiet engine and soft ride. The rest also showed traditional Japanese quality.
