Do you think that the SYM brand ATVs produced in Taiwan are closer to branded ATVs or to cheap “Chinese” ones in terms of their properties? This is what we will now try to find out. Taiwanese SYM competes with its successful cousin Kymco in foreign markets.
In order to understand what winds are blowing in the ATV construction of this Asian region, we took two utilitarian SYM ATVs for testing - the “upper” model QuadRaider 600 and the budget QuadLander 300. An examination with passion showed that this is a well-assembled design and, in most aspects, well thought out. But the appearance is only the beginning, because you can look at the pie for as long as you like, admiring the golden brown crust, and have no idea about the degree of its edibility.
In ascending order, let's start with the “three hundred”. The most important thing for quadrics of this cubic capacity is the price. Here the numbers on the price tag are: 207,800 rubles. What do we get for this money? A three hundred cc carburetor engine, in which the electric starter is duplicated by a manual starter. Alas, there is only rear-wheel drive, but there is a CVT transmission with a low-range mode. The front suspension is traditionally independent, and the rear is dependent, which is also typical for cheap models.
The “three hundred” rides surprisingly briskly, although it shakes due to the solid rear beam. But if you don’t try to sit out the bumps and get into a standing position, then you can go far. In general, this is a very nice quad for a beginner or for someone who just needs moderately off-road self-propelled four wheels.
BIG BROTHER
The top-end “six hundred” in comparison with the younger model is like a catamaran versus a kayak.
The big QuadRaider 600 handles really well, has a smooth ride (thanks to the independent rear suspension) and a crisp, light CVT shift lever. With its six hundred carburetor cubes, the ATV, in general, drives better than most “yellow” vehicles with a similar volume, which have the dynamics of “four hundred” from famous manufacturers. And in other respects, the QuadRaider 600 is similar to expensive quads: the front wheels are electrically driven, a liquid cooling system with an electric fan, a CVT with reduction gear, and alloy wheels. The plastic seemed quite elastic, and the footpegs seem to be difficult to damage - they are reinforced in the rear. I was pleasantly pleased with such a rare solution as gearbox breathers, which are sealed corrugated cases. What disadvantages did we find during the test? And here they are. The saddle has a weak latch, and it simply falls off when the drive is active (it is promised that this will be fixed in the next batch). Headlights that are not sealed. Well, one more “jamb” of those that is entirely on the conscience of the designers.
Imagine the situation: you are driving along deep ruts with rolls close to critical, or you are stuck in this position, or you have even dropped the quad to one side. So, with such a tilt, gasoline begins to leak from the fuel tank drainage system into the air filter housing, slowly filling the entire volume. However, since the filter is not paper nonsense, but reusable foam rubber, everything is solved simply: squeeze out the filter, drain the gasoline through the provided hole - and off you go. But it would be better, of course, to come up with something with drainage, because the task is not at all difficult.
According to the distributor, you won’t have to wait months for spare parts. Consumables and something more serious are available. Is the price of a 600 car competitive at 295,000 rubles? Complex issue. Still, Taiwanese ATVs have yet to earn credibility in the Russian market. And one more thing: a potential buyer should not console himself with thoughts of the laurels of a winner in trophy raids. The engine air intake system, the lack of front differential locking, and the weight of three and a half centners will not allow the QuadRaider 600 to compete on equal terms with branded ATVs.

- I once had the opportunity to ride a two-seater SYM QuadRaider 600 LE. After this trip, I decided to buy this device for myself. There are a lot of positive impressions, but there are also some disadvantages. In total, I identified two problems with this ATV. The first is not very good stability during maneuvers, even if the vehicle is traveling at low speed. Well, the second is that the downshift crashes at the most inopportune moment, namely when it is really needed. I flew out in the snow several times, but I think you can get used to it. I especially liked the quality; here this indicator is really at the highest level. Everything is done efficiently and reliably. Spare parts are available only on order, since the equipment is not very common in the country, which is not clear why.
- I bought this ATV about three years ago. During its entire operation, it only once carried out a major overhaul of the engine and suspension. Maintenance is not as expensive as on some other motorized vehicles. The technical characteristics are excellent, the ATV has excellent handling, maneuverability and convenience. I especially liked its appearance, it looks quite modern and stylish. Fuel consumption also left a good impression; a full tank lasts for a very long distance. In terms of maintenance, everything is quite simple, I checked the fluid levels, bolts and drove off. I haven’t encountered any repairs yet, but I think it won’t cause me any particular difficulties, because the design is quite convenient and affordable. I don’t see any major shortcomings, although there are minor ones, but they can be found in any other technique.
- SYM QuadRaider 600 LE, in my opinion, is one of the best in its price segment. The device performed well off-road. Once, with a very good friend, we decided to go fishing, of course on an ATV. On the way, we came across a swamp in which this car could easily have gotten stuck. But still we decided to try at our own peril and risk. The wheels were almost completely gone, but that didn’t stop me from getting out of the swamp. The equipment was able to move out slowly but surely. After that, I really appreciated all its driving characteristics, which, by the way, are simply excellent. Now approximately 4 thousand kilometers have already been covered and during this entire mileage there have been no serious breakdowns or malfunctions. Basically, everything was corrected by tightening certain parts and nothing more. Another plus I would like to note is the excellent dynamics and traction force. Overall, I really liked the model.
