Motorcycle manufacturer Triumph (Triumph) is a classic of English motorcycle production with a history of more than a hundred years, in which there have been ups and downs. The company was founded in 1902 by Moritz Schulte and Siegfried Bettmann. The company is currently owned by John Bloor, and its head office in the UK is in the town of Hinckley, Leicestershire.
The Triumph motorcycle lineup includes about 30 models: from retro bikes to ultra-modern sports bikes. The manufacturer actively uses the developments of past years and continues to look for new unique engineering solutions.
Appearance Rocket III
This motorcycle looks really gorgeous.
Nothing superfluous, only what is necessary, everything is massive and serious. The large front wheel covers the top of an equally massive wing. The edges of a wide cooling radiator are visible behind the wheel.
The tilt angle of the fork is not particularly large, which is dictated by the weight of the motorcycle itself; at a higher angle, the fork could not withstand it for a long time. Wide-set front fork stays made it possible to install two headlights at the front.
The handlebars are quite wide, but the motorcycle is massive and you need a good handlebar to control it. On the latest models, the dashboard is presented in the form of two wells with sensors located above the steering wheel.
The tank is quite wide and voluminous, its shape fitting well into the appearance of the motorcycle.
The seat is double, separate. The seat level is relatively low, which only adds to the stability of the motorcycle.
The passenger seat is located on the rear fender, which ends with a small oval brake light. Below the seats are small glove compartments.
Modern history of Triumph: range of two-wheeled motorcycles
Motorcycles were gradually improved through re-equipment of production. Increasing competition in the global market for such equipment has played a good role. Triumph had to compete with Ducati and Honda, which kept the designers and developers on their toes - new technological lines were introduced, modern materials were used, corrective changes were made to the mechanics of the car and its appearance in an effort to achieve the most acceptable ergonomic streamlining indicators. And this brought results - Triumph began to produce new motorbikes with technical characteristics that were ahead of their time in many respects.
In 1997, the world was presented with a motorcycle model that shocked with its appearance and its incredible technical characteristics - this is the T595 Daytona model. It was she who announced the Triumph brand as the world's elite motorcycle manufacturer.
By the beginning of the century, 90,000 English Triumphs had already been produced. At this time, the company began construction of new production facilities - a modern plant was supposed to produce up to 50 thousand motorcycles per year. The boundaries of the company have also expanded noticeably - it has ceased to be purely English, its representative offices have appeared in Austria and Canada. USA, Germany, Belgium, France and other countries of the world. Today, the Triumph model range is represented by a large number of modifications, which are equipped with engines ranging from 600 to 2,300 cc.
The hallmark of this global brand of motorcycle manufacturer is a 3-cylinder engine of various sizes, which includes four-valve heads, injection systems and liquid cooling systems.
Well, in the list of the model range of this venerable family, how can we not remember the legendary sportbike and the Triumph Speed Four streetfighter - a real street fighter. It has a diagonal frame made of light alloys and a 4-cylinder engine with an injection system. Its suspensions are easily adjustable and its gearbox is six-speed. The driving wheel of the motorcycle will not be blocked at the moment of releasing the gas - the engines of the cars have reverse slip, which minimizes this situation.
In the venerable family, a worthy place is given to the Triumph Bonneville model - a motorcycle with a classic and 50-60s appearance, in which the cylinders are located vertically, and the frame is a double steel structure. The engine crankcase has been stylized to resemble the shapes of motorcycles of the last century.
Another handsome Englishman is the Triumph America motorbike, in which the developers have reproduced the American tuning of the last century. The car has an 865 cc engine. But the mufflers and alloy wheels give it away as a contemporary. The sports version of this model is the Triumph Speedmaster - it is equipped with a fairly powerful double-disc brake on the front wheel. The Triumph Scrambler model can also be safely included in the series of retro motorcycles - an echo of the fashion for two-wheelers from the middle of the last century.
The most popular modern models
The Triumph Bonneville is a classic British model with a modern twist. A 68 hp engine is installed here. with liquid cooling. Acceleration to hundreds takes 4 seconds, and gear changes are carried out by a 5-speed gearbox.
Triumph Thunderbird is a large and spacious cruiser with an 89 hp engine. The motorcycle is great for long-distance travel. For this purpose, there are glove compartments, comfortable seats, and a soft, customizable suspension. This bike is not meant to go fast, it is designed to be enjoyed at a leisurely pace.
Triumph Tiger is a reliable enduro with a powerful chassis. Despite the powerful engine, the bike has low consumption. A very useful advantage of this model is the ABS system, which is very helpful when operating the motorcycle in rough terrain.
Motorcycles from Triumph are truly legendary bikes. A British company with a long history continues to create amazingly reliable and beautiful equipment that is worth its money.
Triumph motorcycle range
The Triumph motorcycle line includes touring, sports, universal, retro and ultra-modern models. There is a choice for both experienced bikers and beginners. Features of Triumph motorcycle models are high safety, laconic design and good technical performance, and they are also easy to repair and remodel.
Supersport
Triumph Daytona
Sports bikes include all modifications of Triumph Daytona motorcycles. The bikes have a light-alloy diagonal frame, an in-line four-cylinder engine, a 6-speed gearbox and adjustable rear and front suspensions.
Road (classic)
The Triumph family of road motorcycles includes the largest number of models; we’ll tell you about the most popular ones.
The most famous among them is the Triumph Bonneville, which is still made in the style of the 1950s and 60s. The motorcycle has a classic look of those times: a stylized crankcase, suspension with classic shock absorbers, a double steel frame and vertical cylinders.
Triumph Thruxton (Triumph Thruxton) is made in the style of racing motorcycles of the last century - a cafe racer. It has a two-cylinder engine, an unusually shaped muffler, a low steering wheel and a fairing where the second seat should be.
Choppers and cruisers
The most famous chopper-style motorcycle from the UK is the Roadster Triumph Rocket III (Roadster Triumph Rocket 3). This is a roadster with a huge 2294 cm3 engine that has a power of 140 hp! The bike accelerates to 100 km/h in three seconds, while its length is 2.5 meters and weighs 320 kilograms. The giant is able to compete on the roads with any cars.
Classic cruisers include the Triumph Speedmaster. It has a long steering wheel, comfortable seats and a large engine. A biker in his saddle will feel comfortable both when riding around the city and on a long journey.
Thunderbird Triumph cruisers have a large parallel twin engine. The bike is ideal for long trips and feels comfortable in the city. They are brutal and have an imposing fit.
Triumph America is a chopper with smooth lines, a loud engine and a very comfortable ride. It has a parallel V-twin engine, a low center of gravity and a wide handlebar.
Enduro
The Triumph Tiger touring enduro is suitable for travel of any format: it feels confident on asphalt, dirt, highways and city asphalt. The motorcycle is capable of developing power up to 115 hp, has a modern engine, and the frame is made of durable aluminum alloy.
Triumph Tiger
Tourism
The Triumph Trophy was created for motorcycle tourism, which is equipped with cruise control, electronic throttle control, suspension, windshield and other modern systems.
The Triumph Sprint is also comfortable for long trips. It has a three-cylinder engine, a diagonal frame and a cantilever drive wheel.
Triumph Trophy
The latest model from the line was the Triumph Trophy motorcycle. It was a cruiser - a motorcycle designed for traveling and long trips. Again, there were two versions - 900 and 1200 cm3. Trophy resembled a sportbike, but in fact had its own individual characteristics. This model was much more comfortable, featured a smooth gearbox and low fuel consumption. Even then, Triumph motorcycles were equipped with liquid cooling, which greatly helped them maintain their leading position in the market.
Sparks of delight in the eyes
The Speedmaster and Bobber engines share the same design, resulting in a strong bottom-to-mid range punch, up to over 5,000 rpm, that dampens the joy of screwing into a corner. In practice it doesn't matter because it's good enough.
Who is Bobber for? I think for all those who look at him with sparks of admiration. For those for whom style is more important than utility value. In the car we tested, this style is emphasized by the optional small leather handbag on the left.
The saddle, as if hanging in the air, is a distinctive feature of the Bobber. Comfort is ok, but forget to change the position.
Cruise control button. Its operation is intuitive. Bobber and Speedmaster have it on the left end of the steering wheel.
Triumph Boneville Bobber Black
The position on the Bobber is somewhere between full weight and a small dose of activity. The arms are extended, the elbows are in a straight line, pointing outward, and the knees are bent at an angle greater than that of the Speedmaster. However, it is impossible to raise the footpegs and makes it almost impossible for the rider to move. Fortunately, a slightly tilted spine can offset the impact of the suspension to some extent.
Triumph
T120 remains. He is the only “normal” bike on this team. It has a fuel tank large enough for you to drive it for over 300 km, making it easy to get behind the wheel
In addition, the passenger has no reason to complain, because there is enough space on the sofa and, just as important, its presence does not interfere with driving on winding roads
Main technical characteristics of Triumph Rocket III Touring
The triumph rocket iii touring model was released in 2013 and its characteristics are worth talking about separately. It belongs to the custom/chopper/cruiser class and has:
- three cylinders;
- engine capacity 2,294 cm3;
- power – up to 106 horsepower;
- torque – 203 Nm;
- gearbox – 5;
- gas tank with a volume of 22 liters;
- length – 2.6 meters;
- height – 1.2 meters;
- saddle height -0.73 meters;
- curb weight – 395 kg.
The triumph rocket iii roadster motorcycle is one of the most powerful in the family of two-wheeled vehicles. It has a 3-cylinder engine with increased torque. To control this powerful technology, the developers equipped the Triumph Rocket III Roadster with a British-made anti-lock braking system. In general, the roadster is one of the first models to have ABS as standard.
Triumph company as a motorcycle manufacturer - history
By September 1991, the company had launched production of three pairs of new models - Trophy, Daytona and Trident, presented at the Cologne exhibition in 1990.
These were two Trident motorcycles, with engines of 750 and 900 cc and without fairings, Daytona sports motorcycles, with engines of 750 and 900 cc. and full fairings, Trophy touring motorcycles with fairings and engines of 900 and 1200 cc.
At this time, the company produced very few motorcycles - no more than eight per week.
By 1996, production increased to 15,000 motorcycles; enduro motorcycles Tiger 900, Sprint, retro model Thunderbird, Adventurer were launched into series.
The models being produced were gradually re-equipped; competition with well-known motorcycle companies, Honda and Ducati, forced Triumph designers to develop new motorcycles with technical characteristics that were ahead of their time.
As a result, in 1997, the T595 Daytona model, stunning in its appearance and technical characteristics, was released, which allowed the Triumph brand to once again become an elite motorcycle manufacturer.
The year two thousand was marked by the release of the ninety-thousandth English motorcycle of the Triumph brand. The year before, the company began construction of a new plant with a projected production of fifty thousand motorcycles per year.
Initially, Triumph motorcycles originated from Great Britain; we can say that England is the country producing Triumph motorcycles. Today, Triumph has its divisions in the USA, Canada, France, Germany, Belgium, Austria and several others.
Currently, the Triumph motorcycle lineup includes a fairly large number of modifications with engines ranging from six hundred to two thousand three hundred cubic cm.
The company's calling card is a three-cylinder engine, also of various sizes with four-valve heads, an injection system and a liquid cooling system, which are equipped with most of the motorcycles produced.
Triumph Daytona
Triumph Daytona motorcycles were sports bikes that were equipped with special plastic, fairings and all other things inherent in sports bikes. The Daytona model was also equipped with two engine versions - 750 and 900 cm3. An interesting fact is that the engines from Norton Villers Triumph were three-cylinder. It was an unusual decision, but the British company wanted to go this route. In general, motorcycles of this brand have always been famous for their extraordinary solutions, which attracted the majority of motorcyclists.
history of the company
was founded by Siegfried Bettmann and Moritz Schulte, German merchants who emigrated to Britain at the end of the 19th century. Siegfried Bettmann was engaged in the trade of sewing machines and bicycles imported from Germany. This gave Schulte the idea to jointly produce high-quality bicycle equipment of their own brand. Cooperation between entrepreneurs began in 1887 with the formation of the Triumph Cycle Company. In 1889, the first bicycles produced under the Triumph brand were introduced in the English town of Coventry.
At the end of the 19th century, the idea of switching from a simple bicycle to a bicycle model with a motor was actively developing in the world - the history of the development of the motorcycle began. The newfangled vehicle became increasingly popular, and in 1898 the company, then called The New Triumph Co. Ltd., began its own development of motorcycles based on Belgian engines.
Triumph Trident
As mentioned earlier, this model was sold in two versions. The less powerful version had an engine capacity of 750 cm3, and in the second version the engine power was all 900 cm3. Triumph Trident motorcycles were made in a retro style, but due to the high power, the owners equipped the motorcycle with various fairings on their own. It is worth saying that this model did not gain much popularity and its sales fell quickly enough. There were two weighty arguments for this - a high price tag and a long delivery time. At that time, Triumph did not yet have sufficient equipment to speed up the production process, which is why the desired model could be waited for more than a month.
Motorcycle debut and first success
In 1902, Triumph made its debut on the English market with its first motorcycle model, which sold 500 units within a year. Over the next few years, Triumph motorcycles were successfully sold in their homeland, thanks to which the company expanded production. In 1906, the company formed its final name, Triumph Engineering Co. Ltd., which remained so until 1983.
In 1907, production volume reached 1000 units, and the following year, 1908, motorcycle racer Jack Marshall showed the best result on a Triumph motorcycle in races on the Isle of Man. In 1909, it produced 3,000 motorcycles and introduced its famous Roadster motorcycle, a large-capacity serial cruiser popularly nicknamed the “Trusty Triumph.” During the First World War, the British government placed an order for 30,000 units of this model, thereby seriously supporting the manufacturer.
In the post-war 20s, the company continued to produce bicycles, Triumph motorcycles and began producing cars (1928). In 1937, the company introduced the Triumph Speed motorcycle with a 500 cc engine. see and the ability to reach speeds of up to 150 km/h. Its sports variation Tiger 100, introduced in 1939, was able to demonstrate a speed of 189.93 km/h. In 1940, the company introduced the world's first motorcycle with an alternating current generator - the 3TW Military model, intended for military couriers.
The years of the Great Depression of the 30s affected the state of affairs: the founders of the company left, the automobile brand became unprofitable, as a result of which the motorcycle division was sold on January 22, 1936 to the owner J. Y. Sangster for 41 thousand pounds sterling. With the outbreak of World War II, the enterprise was partially reoriented to the production of military equipment and received a large government order for the production of aircraft engines and motorcycles - 300 units of motorcycles per week.
After the war, the company continued to produce popular pre-war models and introduced new motorcycles - 3T De Luxe (1946), 500GP and TR5 Trophy (1947), 6T Thunderbird (1948) and TRW (1950). In 1951, Sangster sold Triumph to the BSA concern.
English motorcycles
Welcome to a fairly modern and very reliable source of biker information! “All about Moto” currently has a solid volume of fascinating reading about the best domestic, and, in addition, original foreign bikes. The most enviable biker clubs have also received descriptions on this web portal. Moreover, here you will read about both domestic and foreign MS.
Basic information about motorcycles from Great Britain
English motorcycles are considered to be quite high-quality products on the global motorcycle industry market. This technique is sometimes created in a vintage form, which allows it to be quite popular among the richest aesthetes on the Planet. We, in turn, bow our heads to the individual models of the above iron horses.
The British industry for the creation of two- and three-wheeled vehicles began to take shape more than a century ago. The world wars showed throughout Europe a huge list of advantages of such transport, including its reliability and practicality.
Just take the Triumph motorcycle brand, the creator of which was born back in 1883. At that time, English motorcycles were not yet known throughout the world, and in the small town of Coventry at that time, no one had even heard of the company’s founder, Siegfried Bettman.
In 1886, Bettman organized a small production of bicycles. With the beginning of the 20th century, this company created its first successful bike. Moreover, such a motorcycle had a single-cylinder four-stroke engine that was modest in terms of power. The drive of its traction to the wheel was designed in the form of a belt drive. A little later, models of English motorcycles began to be produced, equipped with engines of their own design.
Important question
Triumph
If you think about motorcycles in a similar way and agree with the above, then you will surely pick one of these machines to suit your requirements. The only question is which one?
The youngest in the team is the Speedmaster. Footrests extended far forward; The wide, swept-back handlebar and split bench with a small passenger seat are the most important features of the British vision of a cruiser, which is undoubtedly the Speedmaster.
Thick, spherical levers and massive adjustable door handles are a bit reminiscent of Milwaukee cars, and the stylish optional waxed cotton bags add to the impression. On the 273kg Speedmaster you sit low at 700mm, which is the lowest of the three.
The wide, curved rear steering wheel, reminiscent of a wheelbarrow handle, is a manifestation of the cruise style. The tank holds 12 liters of fuel. The Speedmaster pegs are set 22cm further than the Bobber pegs and 36cm further than the black T120 pegs.
After a short search, your feet will find their place. Measuring from the reference point I took as the crankshaft pivot point, the footpegs are offset forward by 11 cm. For comparison, this is 10 cm in the Bobber and 25 cm in the T120. These centimeters affect your completely different driving positions!
I start the engine. If Speedmaster could talk, he would probably say that his motto is "Relax instead of spinning." Press – first gear is engaged. I feel that even from idling the big twin is suddenly rushing forward. Another press - second gear. Another third. And so on, until about 70 km/h, when I caught the “six”. Most often I drive between 2000 and 3000 rpm. I am accompanied by a pleasant, low rumble.
After adjusting for weight and fat tires (it is a cruiser after all), I have no reason to complain about the ride. The car takes turns willingly and handles them easily. Of course, to the best of your cruising capabilities. Component clearances are typically extremely tight on this type of bike, so when going fast through tight corners, that massive footrest comes into contact with the tarmac. To avoid overdoing it, I use the front brake to slow down the pace a little.
Repair and tuning
Any modern technology is quite complex technically. The Triumph Tiger 800 is reliable, but some repair operations on it require good skills and special equipment. However, this is not too burdensome for the owners - problems with this model are rare, and maintenance can be done on your own.
Repair
Most of all operations can be done independently, but not all. In general-purpose motorcycle services, employees are not always familiar with the specifics of English motorcycles, so contacting official dealers would be the best option. But in this case, you will have to shell out money - their prices cannot be called low.
Spare parts
You can bring anything you want through the above-mentioned dealers, and they almost always have various small parts and consumables in stock. Non-original spare parts are found on sale, both European and Chinese. Prices vary greatly, as does quality.
Tuning
The manufacturer offers a solid selection of tuning for all occasions. There are windshields, heated grips, other seats, trunks, and in general everything your heart desires. Third-party companies are also not lagging behind, and their analogs are usually cheaper than the original, and are often not inferior in quality. So you can tune almost anything in the Triumph Tiger 800, if you only have enough money and imagination, but installing all the additional options at the dealer will easily add 20-25% to the price of the motorcycle.
Twin family
This family is associated with the appearance of the Triumph Bonneville motorcycle model, which continued the traditions of the Triumph company of the 50-60s of the last century. The motorcycle has the classic appearance of that time: vertically positioned cylinders, double steel frame, classic shock absorber suspension. Even the engine crankcase is stylized to resemble the shapes of bygone years.
The Triumph America motorcycle is a reproduction of American tuning: this is exactly how Americans remade English motorcycles in the middle of the last century. The engine capacity is 865 cc.
The intake strokes of the power supply system are shifted by 270 degrees, making the engine sound reminiscent of the sound of a six-cylinder engine. Newly designed mufflers and cast wheels instead of spoked ones give the motorcycle a modern twist.
The company also produces a sports version of this model - the Triumph Speedmaster, which has a powerful double-disc brake on the front wheel.
Another model with a two-cylinder engine is the Triumph Thruxton 900, made in caferacer style. Thruxton is named after the English race track of the same name.
And the whole appearance of the motorcycle is reminiscent of racing motorcycles of the last century - low handlebars, tail fairing and unusual shape of mufflers.
The series of retro motorcycles also includes another model based on the Triumph Bonneville - the Triumph Scrambler, also a very unique model from the middle of the last century.
The company is constantly developing, thanks to which it is still an elite manufacturer of motorcycles with millions of fans around the world.
The range of motorcycles is constantly expanding and in 2013, at the EICMA motorcycle show, Triumph presented a number of new and modernized models:
- Triumph Speed Triple;
- Triumph Street Triple;
- Triumph Bonneville T100;
- Triumph Scrambler;
- Triumph Thruxton;
- Triumph America LT;
- Triumph Tiger 800XC Special Edition;
- Triumph Speedmaster;
- Triumph Thunderbird Commander.
Choosing a motorcycle is a very serious and responsible undertaking. When choosing a motorcycle, you need to decide where and how you will use it. It's unlikely that you plan to become a racer, and even if so, then a powerful sports bike is not for beginners.
Chopper - a motorcycle to impress
If this aspect is very important to you, then your choice may be Triumph America or Triumph America LT - a stylish motorcycle that even people who are far from motorcycles pay attention to. Motorcycles from the Triumph Speedmaster and Triumph Thunderbird series look very good
Classic motorcycles from the Triumph Bonneville series remain very close to this style.
Motorcycles from the Triumph Speedmaster and Triumph Thunderbird series look very good. Classic motorcycles from the Triumph Bonneville series remain very close to this style.
For lovers of off-road riding, the Triumph Speed Triple or Triumph Street Triple series motorcycles are suitable. They are also not bad when driving around the city - they are sort of universal cars.
When choosing a motorcycle, you need to realistically evaluate your physical characteristics with the characteristics of the motorcycle. If you weigh 60 kilograms, the Triumph Rocet III, which weighs 320 kilograms, is unlikely to suit you.
You need to look for exactly your model, in terms of power, weight, and ease of fit. We will try to answer specific questions about each motorcycle model on our website.

Speedmaster rides vertically
When cornering, the car, especially when driving in tandem with the Bobber, but also alone, demonstrates a distinct straightening moment. This is surprising because the Bobber is very similar in design. And if you do not take into account the diameter of the lag fork, the suspension parameters of both motorcycles are almost identical, in addition, both bikes have the same wheels and tires. The Bobber brake is admittedly a bit more "dumb" but still performs just as well as the Speedmaster. It occurred to me that the culprit was the front Speedmaster tire, which had been damaged by 5500 km. Another explanation could be different body weight distributions resulting from different driving positions.
The right switches are identical on all three machines. Using the middle button, ignition modes are selected (Rain / Road).
This massive structure is a bracket for the forward-extended footpegs. Unfortunately, in deeper slopes it catches contact with the asphalt. Fortunately, this ailment is not enough to ruin the pleasure of cruising. Another suggestion, however, might be a passenger that you can take, but only for a short tour. There's not a lot of room in the back, and the rear handle rests against the butt. So the Speedmaster is a bike for old-school cruisers who don't want to look at cars from the USA.
Triumph motorcycles: from the twentieth to the twenty-first century
Triumph motorcycles have a sense of time and belonging to different eras and subcultures. The brand successfully produces the main types of motorcycles, including retro-style models. Classic, sports, touring and touring-enduro, roadsters and cruisers - each of them has its own design features and specific technical characteristics, thanks to which they compete with American and Japanese competitors.
Since 1990, it has released a large number of models of various classes, distinguished by advanced modern design and fresh, innovative designs inspired by Japanese brands. Super active tourists and sports tourists appeared, and the Daytona 675, Speed Triple and Sprint ST motorcycles became extremely popular.
There was also a place for the legendary retro models in the style of American cafe racers, with a powerful engine and brutal design. All these features were manifested in the heavy 500-kilogram Triumph Rocket III with a 2.3-liter engine and 142 horsepower, which slightly shocked the public with a 3-second acceleration to 100 km/h. We were also pleased with two fresh models of the “English petrel” - the classic Triumph Thunderbird 2 ABS and its more sporty and fit brother Triumph Thunderbird Storm ABS. The latter surprised with a record torque of 156 Nm at just 2950 rpm.
What is a Triumph motorcycle today?
Motorcycles from Norton Villers Triumph have always been famous for their originality, and engineers have developed and implemented the most unusual solutions. Today we can highlight the following features of motorcycles from the British company:
- A huge selection of models of various classes. Triumph offers its customers sports motorcycles, cruisers, roadsters and even retro bikes. Any buyer will find a model that he loves and wants to purchase.
- Original British style and quality. Today, you are unlikely to find other quality motorcycles made in British style. Triumph motorcycles are loved precisely for their unique British design.
- Three-cylinder engines. Even today, the company continues to produce bikes with three-cylinder engines. This has become another distinctive feature of Triumph motorcycles.
