Suspension repair, fork rebuild on Honda VTX 1800.

As one of the most basic maintenance tasks required by a motorcycle, changing your motorcycle's oil is something that motorcyclists should be able to do themselves. Even though the various hoses and wires that surround a Honda VTX-series motorcycle can complicate the task, changing the engine oil supply and its filter is simple enough to be completed in less than half an hour.

Engine oil and oil filter

The quality of engine oil is the main factor determining the service life of the engine. Change the engine oil at the intervals specified in the Maintenance Schedule (page 58).

When operating in dusty conditions, the oil should be changed more often than specified in the Maintenance Schedule.

We kindly ask you to remember to protect the environment when disposing of used motor oil. We recommend draining the used oil into a container with a tight-fitting lid and taking it to a local waste oil collection point.

Do not dispose of used oil in waste containers or pour it onto the ground or into drains. With prolonged and systematic contact with the skin, used motor oil can cause skin cancer. Although this is unlikely unless you come into contact with used motor oil on a daily basis, we still recommend washing your hands thoroughly with soap and water as much as possible.

rather after contact with used oil. To replace the oil filter, you need a special filter wrench and a torque wrench. If you do not have this tool and do not have the appropriate skills, it is recommended that you have this operation performed by an authorized Honda dealer.

If a torque wrench was not used during installation, have an authorized Honda dealer check for proper assembly as soon as possible.

To ensure that used oil is drained quickly and completely, perform the oil change procedure with the motorcycle upright and at engine operating temperature.

ENGINE OIL Checking the engine oil level

Check the engine oil level every day before riding your motorcycle. The oil level should be between the high (1) and low (2) marks on the dipstick (3). 1. Start the engine and give it 3 5 minutes

run at idle speed. Make sure the low oil pressure indicator (red) goes off. If the light remains on, stop the engine immediately.

2. Stop the engine and hold the motorcycle

in an upright position on a solid, level surface.

3. After 2-3 minutes, unscrew the dipstick cap

oil filler neck, wipe it dry with a rag and reinsert it into the neck without screwing it in. The oil level should be between the upper and lower level marks on the dipstick.

4. If necessary, add engine oil with

service and maintenance, VTX 1800

1. Fuel system - check the hoses; as a rule, nothing happens to them unless you remove the tank. 2. The free play of the throttle should be within 2-6mm. 3. Air filter. Usually it gets clogged up in 8-10 thousand. Replace. As a last resort, you can try blowing with a compressor and vacuuming, but this is a temporary measure. Air vent part number: 17213-MSN-000 4. Engine breather. Usually it all comes down to cleaning the oil from the air vent housing and draining the condensate from there (accumulating in the transparent tube at the bottom of the air filter housing). 5. Candles. Usually enough for 15-20 thousand kilometers if you drive on good gasoline. But you need to look at how the engine works. Usually the first reason for poor performance/lack of dynamics. Recommended by the manufacturers: Denso vk16prz11 (regular), Denso vk20prz11 (long-term driving at high speed) NGK ifr5l11 (regular), NGK ifr6l11 (long-term driving at high speed) 6. Valve clearance. It’s better not to get involved yourself, bummer. 7. Engine oil. Change it every 6000 miles without any options. I personally use Motul 300V 10W40. I recommend to all. 8. Oil filter. Change along with the oil. In principle, I don’t care what to put, the original, Champion, Hi-Flo, Toyo. I don’t recommend Vesrah - a couple of times I came across defective ones and leaked. Original part number: 15410-MT7-003, Toyo - 15410-MCJ-000, Hi-Flo - 303 9. Idle speed. Adjustable hmm. twist
