Greetings to all readers who are with us today. I promise it will be hot, because we are reviewing Yamaha sports motorcycles, the characteristics of which will not leave anyone indifferent. In this article we will talk about the most popular and commercially available sports motorcycles, which began to be produced in the 80s, and also talk about modern models. Liter motorcycles will be used as a basis.
Yamaha Motor Co. Ltd was founded quite late, in 1955, when there were already 120 - 150 motorcycle manufacturers on the market.
Some rose, others fell, but one thing was clear: the competition was monstrous. And then the guys from Yamaha realized that either they were doing something that would explode the market, or they were fading into history.
Currently, the company's principles have not changed and Yamaha motorcycles remain one of the most advanced on the market.
Types of motorcycles
Motorcycles are divided into two large types: classic and sports, which, in turn, are divided into numerous classes and subclasses. Sports bikes have all the necessary parameters for high-speed riding and sports competitions. This class is distinguished by powerful engines and lightweight design.
Classic ones are designed for simple riding and long trips. They are durable and very comfortable. This is their peculiarity. They are characterized by a very long ride, which does not tire the driver.
Touring motorcycle Yamaha Star Venture 2022
Having shut down production of the Royal Star Venture in 2013, Yamaha began developing new models, postponing the release of the next generation of luxury touring cruiser. And then it happened - the Japanese presented the long-awaited motorcycle, built on a completely new platform.
Despite the name of the same name, the new Star Venture 2022 has nothing in common with the “star” family. It is driven by an 1854 cc air-cooled V-twin, which, according to the manufacturer, consumes about 7 liters of gasoline per 100 km. This fuel consumption allows the motorcycle to travel up to 350 kilometers without refueling (tank volume is 21 liters), which is especially important when traveling on roads with a poorly developed gas station network.
The main driving force of the 2022 Yamaha Star Venture is a V-twin engine with a volume of 1854 cm3
The low-speed engine is mated to a six-speed gearbox (5th and 6th gears with a ratio of less than one). To increase the comfort of driving the motorcycle, a slipper clutch and a belt final drive are used.

The motorcycle is replete with all sorts of electronic assistants. There is traction control, an anti-lock braking system, cruise control, two engine operating modes, and even a parking “assistant” (in the form of an additional electric motor embedded in the transmission), which allows you to park a heavy motorcycle (434 kg in running order) in a cramped space.
The new Star Venture is equipped with an electric motor, making it easier to park the motorcycle
Multimedia capabilities are also wide: the dashboard with a 7-inch touch screen and voice control can connect to any mobile device (two additional USB sockets and a traditional car 12V connector are provided for charging) via Bluetooth or USB, broadcasting your favorite music to the speakers. For an additional fee, you can install navigation software and separate headsets for the driver and passenger.
The list of additional equipment includes both functional accessories and visual tuning
The basic package includes panniers with a total volume of 140 liters and a large windshield with electronic adjustment. The cost of the new Yamaha Star Venture is $24,999. The manufacturer promises delivery to dealer showrooms in August of this year; nothing is yet known about plans to supply the motorcycle to Russia.

Classic motorcycles
This large group primarily includes all touring motorcycles and everything associated with them. What are all the classic motorcycles for? The main task of such bikes is to quietly circulate around the city or highways. Many models are equipped with large fuel tanks, the volume of which allows you to travel over very long distances. Large soft seats with a direct seating position and a comfortable steering wheel do everything to make the trip as comfortable as possible, and the driver does not get tired even over time.

History of Yamaha sports and touring motorcycles.
The world-famous company Yamaha has been producing sports and touring motorcycle models since 1984. Despite the fact that the first version of the motorcycle of this class had large dimensions and considerable weight, it was able to gain popularity around the world. Since this design was not without its drawbacks, two years later the company released a new version of the motorcycle. To this day, the manufacturer is designing new and improving existing models of sports and touring motorcycles.

Sports tourist
A sport-tourist motorcycle is a hybrid of a sporty and a classic one. Together, the qualities borrowed from these types of motorcycles give good results. A sport-tourist motorcycle differs from a purely sports one only in that its engine is less powerful and its gas tank is much larger. This combination adapts it to long and leisurely trips on asphalt. Its “bulkyness” also stands out: unlike narrow and small sports bikes, a sports touring motorcycle has clearly large dimensions, which make it more stable and comfortable. A good adaptation for long trips is the developed wind protection, which protects the driver from cold oncoming air currents and annoying midges that would otherwise fly into the face.
The sports-tourist motorcycle differs from the classic ones in its more “aggressive” design, inherited from its sports “parent”. It also picks up speed faster than a simple tourist (although not as high as ordinary sleep bikes). The handling of a sports tourer is better than that of a simple classic motorcycle, which proves that it belongs to the sports class. Another distinctive feature of this class is the presence of plastic parts that make up the body. In a simple classic motorcycle or a tourist, the body is mainly made of metal parts, often chrome-plated. This is not the case here; on a sports tourist, the body is made of durable plastic, which is lighter in weight than metal, but not inferior to it in strength.
First achievements
In 1987, Yamaha released its legendary sports motorcycle FZR 1000 Genesis.
Its 4-cylinder engine produced 136 hp. The same year, the motorcycle won the prestigious Castrol Six Hour race in Australia. In 1995, production of the FZR 1000 ended and was replaced by the more powerful YZF1000r Thunderace.
Today, the FZR 1000 is positioned more as a sport-tourer due to its more upright riding position and higher front fork rake than modern sports bikes, making it comfortable for long-distance riding.
In addition to factory tuning, you can install pistons and a crankshaft from the YZF1000R Thunderace, increasing engine power to 145 hp, but such a conversion on FZR1000 motorcycles is impractical due to the high price of spare parts.
If you want to enter the world of liter motorcycles without spending a lot of money, then the FZR 1000 is the motorcycle for you. But don’t forget about the age of the motorcycle, and even if you have a trouble-free motorcycle from Japan, you will still have to spend money on maintenance.
YAMAHA FZR motorcycles are represented by the following line: FZR250, FZR400, FZR600, FZR750, FZR1000.
Motorcycle "Honda" sport-tourist
The most famous sports tourer from the Honda automaker is the CBR600 F4I. This motorcycle has all of the above qualities. The imported model showed that this is the best sports-tourist motorcycle in the series. Prices, of course, bite on him. Such a “toy” will cost from four to eight thousand dollars (depending on condition and place of purchase). That is why before buying you should seriously think about whether you need such an expensive motorcycle or not.
Second generation
In 1996, the YZF1000R Thunderace was released. Distinctive features of this motorcycle are: Deltabox aluminum frame, 4-piston front brakes, adjustable suspension, increased tank volume to 20 liters. Engine power was 145 hp. Experts immediately noted that this bike is difficult to control because it is large and heavy (224 kg). Sales fell, so the company developed the YZF-R1 in 1997.
Since 1998, the YZF1000R Thunderace has been positioned as a sports tourer, and in 2001 it left the production line.
Model range: YZF1000R Thunderace, YZF600R Thundercat.
