Kaliningradskaya decided to occupy a low-competitive niche of the motorcycle market and offered customers the Baltmotors Motard 250 DD, a lightweight and compact supermoto , developed in collaboration with Chinese partners. Previously, it had already produced a 200 cc model of a similar class, and it proved itself well due to the combination of a reasonable price, good quality and good technical characteristics, and Baltmotors Motard 250 represents its further development. The updated motorcycle has become a little more powerful, a little prettier and a little more expensive. The overall characteristics have not changed very significantly compared to the Motard 200, but the new bike definitely deserves attention.
Technical characteristics of Baltmotors Motard 250
The brainchild of Kaliningrad engineers differs from most Chinese crafts in the best possible way. The people responsible for creating the Baltmotors Motard 250 did not set their sights on something completely unattainable, and set themselves the goal of constructing an inexpensive and reliable bike, which at the same time would not be built using 30-year-old technologies. Well, we can congratulate them - they did it.
They placed a single-cylinder air-oil-cooled engine (21 hp and 19.5 Nm)
in a steel tubular frame , working in conjunction with a 5-speed gearbox . Fuel is supplied from a 10.6-liter via a carburetor, and braking is handled by discs on both wheels, with a 2-piston caliper at the front and a 1-piston caliper at the rear. The suspension is very, very good - an inverted fork is installed at the front, and a classic pendulum shock absorber at the rear. It is immediately noticeable that the Baltmotors Motard 250 was created for the Russians, and not for the Chinese - the bike responds adequately to the load and does not sag under a large motorcyclist. The maximum speed is 110 km/h , and the motorcycle is quite capable of reaching it.
There is also a version of the Baltmotors Dakar Motard 250 on sale, which is almost the same motorcycle, only improved. The Dakar 250 engine produces 26 hp. , and thanks to the universal size of the pistons, if desired, you can replace them with tuning. Other differences from the regular Baltmotors Motard 250 include lightweight hubs and sprockets, a sealless chain, titanium valves, as well as wheel rims and brake discs manufactured by GN Motorsport and some other features. The BM 250 Dakar Motard costs significantly more than the regular version, but the difference in money is not as significant as the difference in technical characteristics.
Flaws
With the exception of the incomprehensible idea of installing sports clip-ons on a city bike, other disadvantages are minor. Users noted:
- Vibrations . The usual story for cylinder 1, but the owner of the Baltmotors street will have to often check the tightness of all kinds of locknuts.
- Clip-ons. An incomprehensible idea from the developers, especially considering that the hexagons on which they are attached will require a special wrench for tightening. You will have to check it often, so you need to buy a key. Or replace the clip-ons with a classic steering wheel:
Classic high steering wheel.
Mounting posts.
View from below.
- Stock pens. There is no way to fold or adjust. When traveling with two fingers, there is a possibility of pinching the others.
When braking with two fingers, the lever rests on the ring finger and little finger.
and dignity
The advantages of the bike exactly repeat everything that is usually said about Chinese motorcycles.
- Maintainability.
- Wide selection of components.
- Price.
- Dashboard.
If desired, the original instrumentation can be easily replaced with a more modern electronic one, for example, KOSO with a digital speedometer.
In addition, all owners note the fuel tank. According to this parameter, the motorcycle is an absolute record holder in its class . For bikes identical in other respects, the reserve rarely exceeds 20 liters. 22 l - no one has it .
Pros and cons of Baltmotors Motard 250
Advantages
- No problems finding spare parts . However, they are rarely required, since the motorcycle is in no hurry to break down.
- A peppy engine with good low-end traction. There are almost no parasitic vibrations typical of single-cylinder engines.
- Economical . The fuel consumption of the BM 250 Motard is approximately 3-3.3 liters per 100 km.
- Not bad brakes . Not wonderful, but rather quite good.
- Energy-intensive pendants . The upside-down front fork deserves special praise.
- High quality plastic . Quite durable and at the same time flexible.
Flaws
- High price , especially for a Russian-Chinese motorcycle. For the price of a Baltmotors Motard 250 you can buy a not too ancient Japanese bike of the same class.
- Heavy weight . The dry weight of the motorcycle reaches 140 kg, which is quite a lot by the standards of the class.
- is too hard and slippery .
Driving performance
There are various rumors about the maximum speed. According to user tests, you can accelerate to 145 km/h (according to the speedometer). Considering that Chinese devices, as a rule, lie - according to GPS, the same speed in reality is only 122 km/h .
Perhaps this is why the plant representatives answered the question about the maximum speed - 120 km/h . In their opinion, a comfortable cruiser is 100 km/h .
Acceleration to hundreds
Acceleration from standstill to 100 km/h (GPS) —20 seconds (China!!!). But the motorcycle accelerates tolerably up to 60 km/h, which is exactly the limit in city mode in the traffic rules.
Fuel consumption
Fuel consumption according to specifications is 3l/100 km . Users note that in the city less than 4 liters is not possible.
Reviews from Baltmotors Motard 250 owners
A normal motorcycle, not particularly Chinese, you can ride it)) In reality, there were no breakdowns, except for the initially defective carburetor, which, no matter how you configured it, filled the spark plug (replaced under warranty), mileage is 12k km now. The dynamics are peppy, it reaches the maximum speed of 110 mph quite quickly, although at 90-95 mph the dynamics disappear. In fact, there is no wind protection, but at such speeds it is not needed. Arthur, Voskresensk, Baltmotors Motard 250 '2018.
My experience of owning Chinese motorcycles was strictly negative, but I was pleased with Baltmotors. The quality is noticeable even in the details, for example, the connectors in the wiring are not cheap, I, as an electrician, can see this. The paintwork is of high quality, I constantly hug the tank with my knees, I keep forgetting to put the stickers on - it still hasn’t rubbed off. So far the mileage is too small to judge the quality of the moped as a whole, but everything seems to be ok. Evgeniy, Kaliningrad, Baltmotors Motard 250 '2019.
I bought the Dakar new, paid almost 140k, and hesitated for a long time whether to take the Japanese for that money. In the end, the argument “but it’s new” won, which I don’t regret, the motorcycle is really peppy, and there are only some parts from the Chinese in it. I ride hard, I rode up stairs, I jumped off curbs, I pushed 80 km/h on dirt roads - the motorcycle was flying over the road, not riding, and there are no problems with it at all. The pendants are a bit harsh. The engine pulls sharply from the bottom, you need to be more careful with the throttle. If they had also installed an injector, there would be no price for it at all for that price, sorry for the pun. Dmitry, Sochi, Baltmotors Dakar 250 Motard '2017.
Having skated the first season on a whim, I wanted something more. But everything turned out to be not as simple as I thought. The first season is over, and the buzz is not enough (as I thought). I was thinking about buying another motorcycle, in the meantime I posted the BM for sale, and a couple of days later they bought it. I started looking for a new motorcycle, again looking towards the Chinese, since there was no money for a Japanese one. Of course, I wanted something serious, like the DRZ400SM, but the price was prohibitive. And then a friend called: “They say they are selling a cool motorcycle, with tuning, and all hell is going crazy!” If I didn’t have my own, I would definitely buy it.” Well, I came to look (AVM SHOP store, salesman-mechanic Misha - there was a very bad attitude towards this person), the motorcycle doesn’t look bad, it didn’t start right away (a known problem with this motorcycle), they gave take it for a ride, it actually drives very well, it strives to get into reverse when the gas is applied. They announced the price - 135,000 rubles (new at that time about 150,000 rubles). They talked about improvements, the list was not small. They scratched the bottom of the barrel, found the money, and took the motorcycle back a week later. Due to problems with the electric starter, I had to start it with a kick. But when I started it for the first time, I broke the kick starter lever (well, anything can happen). They gave me another lever, the motorcycle started up immediately and moved towards the house. While driving, the first problem arose, the motorcycle was traveling 80-85 km/h and didn’t want to go any further, it alerted me. And the sluggish front brake was a bit of a concern. Arriving home, I decided to figure out what was wrong, took off the plastic, opened the air filter, and oh my God!!! I haven’t seen so much poop for a long time(((The next day my friend and I went to the store, bought a new air filter, fresh oil, oil filter, antifreeze. I came home, removed the old air filter, removed the subframe to get to the carburetor, removed the carburetor I took it apart, it turned out to be clean, put it back in place, changed the air filter, started the motorcycle (it didn’t start very readily). I changed the oil, the oil was not enough, out of a total amount of about 1500g-1600g there was at most 850g in total! And this is after AVM SERVICE SHOP!!!It was annoying that there was plastic from a Honda crf450r, which interfered with servicing the air filter, the filter box and side plastic were replaced.
I replaced the consumables, remembered about the front brake, decided to change the fluid, opened the expansion tank, and it was empty, funny I thought, the brakes were invented by cowards. I bled the brakes, the brakes appeared (oil). I decided to go out, rode around a bit, changed my mind... Well, no big deal, let’s move on, I caught up with a friend in a Yamaha Vmax, said that I had lost a muffler somewhere, geez, I looked, and it’s really not there. It seems that when he over-goated it, he hit the can, the carbon fiber burst and somewhere along the way it landed. I arrived home, called my father, my father brought stainless steel and stuffing, and made a new muffler braid. It may be a collective farm, but it won’t burst, and there’s no extra money yet. Some time passed, I was irritated by the lack of an electric starter and the tight kick; I had to pull the kick and pull for 15 minutes. After another ride, I noticed oil leaks on the CPG, came home, took it off, I saw the bolt on the valve cover was unscrewed, I turned it all the way by hand, and it spun O.O. I was a little stunned... I left it as is, called my father, I said try it, the same garbage . They removed the valve cover, it is held on by three bolts, and the bolt that is closer to the air filter turned out to be torn off, and instead of MECHANIC MICHAL FROM AVM cutting the thread from M10 to M11, he simply stuck a piece of a beer can there ... Which temporarily held the bolt. Hmmm... We cut a new thread and decided to deal with the tight kick, the decompressor did not work. My father took the motorcycle to him for repairs... But the repairs took a long time. It was the middle of the season, I really wanted to ride, but there was no equipment. I looked at the ads, saw my motorcycle, and then I almost cried, called the seller, made an agreement, came and picked it up. Phew, my dear and beloved motorcycle, the new owner drove only 500 km on it, but the worst thing is that he didn’t re-register it in his name, didn’t take out insurance and rode almost without documents. After picking up the motorcycle, I immediately went to the insurance office and got insurance. I went home, it was nice to feel my own motorcycle under me. After a couple of hundred km I did the maintenance, started riding with motardists from Moscow, the roasts were very cool, fun and unusual. There was trash and frenzy, as it should be. Repair of the afterburner continued, but not quickly; the engine pleased me with its simplicity and reliability. Thinking that the motorcycle was not enough for me, I was wrong, I felt a small reserve, everything was there, but one way or another at the end of the season it definitely became not enough)) During the season I changed the tires. Front Dunlop Sportmax, rear Shinko Sr741 (whistles like a Kamaz)
The tail was terribly infuriating, it was also redone
The new tires are slightly larger, 120-140 wide versus the stock 110-130.
During rides, the motorcycle was automatically decorated, which gave it charm and beauty.
Over two seasons, three sets of stars and two chains were killed (I know that they need to be changed at the same time, but it didn’t work)
Now I have installed new sprockets, a new chain, and increased the acceleration ratio to 14-44 versus the stock 15-43. At the end of last season, the motorcycle was completely disassembled to modify the exhaust, check the CPG and polish the intake and exhaust channels. I finished all the work and started assembling it, assembled it in half a day, without much haste.
The motorcycle is 90% assembled, there are still minor imperfections and maintenance before the season.
It was replaced during operation. Chain and stars. 550 RUR driving, 1200 RUR driven, 2500 RUR chain x 2 = 8500 RUR Chain slider 350 RUR Oil and filter. Motorex semi-synthetic oil 500rub-1l (2l for replacement) + HF filter 230rub x 6 = 7380rub Rear tires SHINKO 3500rub, front tires free. I don't count gasoline. The mileage at the moment is almost 30,000 km, I wonder what the total mileage will be before replacing the engine)) In the meantime, the weather is whispering: “pour it and drink it” I finally started working on the afterburner, and it’s almost ready, changed the wheels on a supermoto, changed the gaskets in the engine, made a decompressor and electric -starter. That seems to be all for now.
Total
Fans of the supermoto class have a hard time because they have practically no choice. There are only a few Japanese and European models on the market, very expensive ones, and not everyone can afford them. Baltmotors Motard 250 gives you the opportunity to join this class of motorcycles for reasonable money , and most owners agree that this bike is worth the money. And if its capabilities are not enough for you, look towards the Baltmotors Dakar Motard 250 - it’s almost the same motorcycle, only more powerful and technologically advanced.

Peculiarities
- Fuel tank 22 l. One of the best indicators among small-capacity models. According to reviews, you can travel up to 700 km at one gas station.
The tank neck is locked with a key.
- Clip-ons , although a classic.
- Sporty fit.
- Long stroke at the throttle (when changing to a cubaturner out of habit, you can put it on the sawhorse)
- Dashboard. Minimalism, but there is an indication of the gear engaged.
The tidy consists of dial indicators combined into a single plastic block.
- Fuel gauge . Hidden under the tachometer glass. It glows during the day and flickers blue in the evening.
