Characteristics of motorcycles baltmotors enduro 200 and 250

Design

This model looks discreet, but enduro is usually chosen not for its pretty appearance, but for its technical characteristics. However, if you take a closer look, everything is in order with the design of the Dakar 250 - the tucked tail, significantly raised engine and compact front end create a feeling of aggressiveness and swiftness. Its main advantage is probably that it looks like an “adult” and a solid motorcycle, and not a “Chinese knockoff”.

Kayo K6 250 ENDURO (2022 model year)

In its model range, the Kayo motorcycle is the flagship. It is designed to cover kilometers of roads with any surface. However, even the basic configuration comes with wheels with deep tread, indicating its true purpose.

Thanks to 250cc and low weight, the Kayo K6 250 motorcycle is easy to control and holds the road smoothly. And for its average price, this enduro has decent technical equipment. The reliability of the Kayo K6 is evidenced by its external equipment: the presence of a duplex steel frame allows the rider to carry out any of his stunt ideas, and the motorcycle will withstand everything perfectly.

All the pros and cons of this enduro are presented in this review:

Specifications

The Dakar 250 costs noticeably more than its Chinese classmates, but is still cheaper than any “Japanese” or “European”. This is not the greed of the manufacturer and dealers, no - this bike is equipped simply superbly, given its overall budget, so the high price is completely justified.

Engine

's 250cc, 4-stroke, 4-valve engine is a collaboration between Chinese and Italian engineers, and it's very good. The engine is distinguished by confident traction throughout the entire rev range, and it does not need to be desperately “twisted” to obtain decent dynamics. Power reaches 19.3 hp. , and torque – 23 Nm . The engine is powered by an injector, so the quality of the fuel being poured matters. The maximum speed on the road is 140 km/h , but driving in this mode for a long time is not recommended so as not to damage the engine.

Transmission

Baltmotors Dakar 250 is equipped with a modern 6-speed gearbox . It behaves exactly as you'd expect from a hard enduro - the gears are short, all except sixth, and you'll be using them all all the time. They shift easily, without effort or any knocks from the depths of the gearbox, which is not typical for Chinese motorcycles.

Chassis and brakes

In order to reduce weight, the frame and pendulum were made not of steel, but of aluminum , in addition, the motorcycle was equipped with fully adjustable suspensions - an inverted fork at the front and a monoshock absorber and Pro-Link at the rear. The range of settings is wide, and the strokes are quite long. Ground clearance of 330 mm allows you not to be afraid of bumps, holes and other obstacles, and disc brakes (one 240 mm disc on both wheels) stop the motorcycle effectively even at high speed. Torque is transmitted to the rear wheel via a sealless chain.

Electronics

All electronic components are made in China, but this is “ good China ”. In the owner reviews there is no information at all about any malfunctions with electronics, and this seems to be true. Moreover, in the whole design there is nothing more complicated than an injector and an LED headlight (very good, by the way!).

Weight and dimensions

The weight of the BM 250 Dakar is only 135 , which is comparable to the weight of its Japanese counterparts. This is thanks to the lightweight chassis, and such a low weight has a positive effect on dynamics and braking distance. The dimensions of the motorcycle are decent, and the seat height reaches 920 mm, so it will be difficult for short-legged pilots to reach the ground with their feet. At the same time, due to the compressed and collected fit, sitting in one position for a long time will be uncomfortable for everyone.

Controllability

As befits an off-road “rogue”, the creation of the Baltmotors company is controlled easily and naturally , this bike is able to easily cope with ruts and take sharp turns, throwing dirt from under the wheels. But all these advantages are fully manifested only in its element, that is, off-road. On asphalt roads, directional stability leaves much to be desired, and the “toothy” tires don’t help it either.

Fuel consumption

When driving on the highway, gasoline consumption does not exceed 3.5 liters per 100 km , but who would buy a Dakar 250 to drive on asphalt? So off-road the numbers will be completely different, much higher, but by how much depends on your driving style. The volume of the gas tank is small, only 8 liters , and it is better to fill it with AI-95. At least that's what the manufacturer recommends.

Driving performance

There are various rumors about the maximum speed. According to user tests, you can accelerate to 145 km/h (according to the speedometer). Considering that Chinese devices, as a rule, lie - according to GPS, the same speed in reality is only 122 km/h .

Perhaps this is why the plant representatives answered the question about the maximum speed - 120 km/h . In their opinion, a comfortable cruiser is 100 km/h .

Acceleration to hundreds

Acceleration from standstill to 100 km/h (GPS) —20 seconds (China). But the motorcycle accelerates tolerably up to 60 km/h, which is exactly the limit in city mode in the traffic rules.

Fuel consumption

Fuel consumption according to specifications is 3l/100 km . Users note that in the city less than 4 liters is not possible.

Motorcycle price

The Baltmotors 250 Dakar has already been discontinued, so you can only buy it second-hand. And this is not an easy task, since it was produced for a short time, in limited quantities, and was not in great demand due to the high price for Chinese motorcycles. Now there are different offers on sale, mainly in the price range from 140 to 180 thousand rubles .

Repair and tuning

A specific technique requires a special approach. Fortunately, thanks to the design features of this model, it is easy to maintain, and there are no problems with maintenance and tuning. Unless, of course, you don't mind spending a little, as some parts can cost quite a bit of money.

Repair

Your bike needs to be serviced frequently, especially if it is subjected to stress on a regular basis. If you operate your steel horse as usual, then maintenance can be carried out by mileage, and not by engine hours, following the recommendations in the manual. Everything in it can be repaired, or in extreme cases, replaced. The less the motorcycle falls and breaks, the less often you will have to do this.

Spare parts

Official dealers often do not have spare parts in stock, but the design of the Baltmotors Dakar 250 uses a huge number of components from third-party manufacturers. So you can pick up almost anything, even if you have to spend time finding the right parts. Some things come from Chinese bikes, some from European ones, and some from Japanese ones.

Tuning

The same can be said about tuning as about spare parts - it is universal, and its choice is very wide. The cost depends on what exactly you need - hand protection or, for example, new running boards can be bought inexpensively, but more technically complex elements can cost a pretty penny.

Are you ready for Dakar?

Domestic motorcycle manufacturers are haunted by the achievements of motorcyclists at the world famous Dakar marathon rally. It was founded by French motorcycle racer T. Sabin in 1978. Before it was transferred to Latin America due to the danger of terrorist attacks, the capital of African Senegal, Dakar, was the starting or ending point of this race. This competition is traditionally held annually in the first month of the year. The length of the Dakar route is several thousand kilometers. The route goes along a variety of roads. Riders are forced to travel along:

  • sands;
  • dunes and dunes;
  • rocky ground;
  • rocks and salt marshes.

During the race there are often sandstorms and sometimes rain. The complexity of the Dakar route is such that a significant part of the starting cars do not reach the finish line. It is interesting that, along with professional racers and teams of auto and motorcycle manufacturers, numerous amateurs take part here. Their number may account for more than half of the participants, most of whom are motorcyclists and ATV riders. At one time, it was at these competitions that two-wheeled vehicles from world motorcycle brands convincingly proved their ability to successfully compete with four-wheeled all-terrain vehicles in such races. Therefore, the market demanded a machine capable of passing the most severe tests. This is how the baltmotors dakar 250 appeared. Motard with that name turned out to be a pretty cool motorcycle.

This model appeared on the roads in 2014. Its versions, called Dakar 250 Motard and Dakar 250 E, were intended for different purposes. The first is for the difficult conditions of a big city with its intense traffic and kilometer-long traffic jams. What was needed here was a dakar, capable of either trudging along at minimal speeds or instantly picking up speed when escaping from a jam. The second option was made for those who cannot imagine themselves without extreme off-road travel, mountains, and difficult road terrain. Reliability of Dakar cars is provided by a 28-horsepower liquid-cooled engine. They have excellent handling, stability in the most difficult conditions, and excellent maneuverability. This is achieved thanks to a balanced suspension, a strong and lightweight aluminum frame, light metal parts, and a fork that can be adjusted to suit the trail conditions.

Motorcycle modifications

  • Enduro . The main modification that is discussed in this article.
  • Motard . Vanishingly rare, distinguished by different wheels and some minor changes. Sometimes this version is passed off as an enduro with different wheels and tires, since these models have almost no other external differences.

Advantages and disadvantages

Baltmotors Dakar 250 is a unique motorcycle, unlike most other Chinese enduros. It costs much more than most of them, and has its own set of positive and negative qualities. But due to the rather high price, we will evaluate it to the fullest extent.

Advantages

  • Fully adjustable suspension front and rear allowing you to fine tune it to suit your weight and riding style.
  • Unification of many parts with European and Japanese models, which simplifies the process of finding spare parts and tuning.
  • A powerful engine with excellent low-end traction and impressive cubic capacity for a 250 cc bike.
  • Flexible and durable plastic that can withstand most of the falls that are inevitable in off-road driving.
  • Standard crankcase protection protects the engine from impacts.

Flaws

  • The need for frequent maintenance , especially when operating under high loads.
  • The BM S2 Dakar 250 engine is not suitable for long driving with a uniform load, especially at high speed.
  • Hard and slippery standard seat .
  • Small range both on and off the pavement.

Off-road new product from Kaliningrad - Baltmotors Enduro 250 DD

The BM Enduro version released last year with a 200 cc engine was respected by novice motorcyclists who prefer rough roads to asphalt. The new engine from the same trusted Asian manufacturer - QingQi - increased the power of the motorcycle by as much as 40%! With such makings, the new BM Enduro 250 has the potential to break the hearts of more than just beginners. This engine has an oil cooler. Of course, it cannot be considered full-fledged liquid cooling, but the likelihood that the engine will overheat and seize somewhere far from home is sharply reduced. A similar system is used on many famous enduro bikes with large engines.

NOT WITH YOUR HEARTS ALONE... It would be wrong to think that the old motorcycle was replaced with a new engine and settled down with that. BM Enduro has not only changed technically (from the inside), but also transformed externally. The first thing that catches your eye is the shiny chrome exhaust manifold, which ends in an equally chrome-plated and equally shiny muffler. They shine brightly even in the scanty Baltic sun. The “chekushka” also got a new steering wheel. Diode optics on the back and sides, perfectly visible in any weather, have replaced the old type of lighting equipment. And if not for the new carburetor, it is unlikely that the motorcycle would have been able to develop the declared 21 hp. With. And finally, the modernization picture is completed by a new tire tread, which, as the manufacturer promises, holds the road well both on asphalt and on light off-road conditions. Whether this is true or not, I had to check.

A VIEW FROM THE SIDE Perhaps this was the first test in all my long work as an automoto-motojournalist when I first had to observe the vehicle being tested from afar. Not even from the passenger seat, but generally from the side. I had to get acquainted with two Baltmotors new products at the same time - the Enduro 250 and Motard 250. It was in Kaliningrad, and to help me they gave me a local motocross guide who knew well not only the city itself, but also all the surrounding areas where you can race to your heart's content . After receiving the equipment from the factory, we first had to travel around the city. The guide rode the Enduro, and I was left with the Motard. It’s not for nothing that I said “saddled”: he jumped on the Enduro and rode it like a cowboy on a mustang across the prairie! For the first few kilometers I was afraid to fall behind him, trying to choose a better road. The conductor, it seems, did not burden himself with such conventions. What choice of road can there be if the motorcycle is off-road! He almost never drove on asphalt - due to traffic jams and the frequent absence of it even on central streets. But the sidewalks (fortunately, almost empty), trampled lawns and even tram tracks easily submitted to his enduristic pressure. Maneuvering between trees, trams, curbs and sleepers, he was not afraid of falling into a hole or jumping on a protruding rail: the Enduro did not seem to notice these minor troubles. Whether it’s a hole or a ditch, he doesn’t care.

Finally, when we reached one of the “control” points, we decided to swap motorcycles. The guide was still in front, and I was behind him - but already on BM Enduro.

THE WORSE IS THE BETTER Having replaced the Motard with the Enduro, I felt more confident - in the sense that I now had less to fear from potholes on the asphalt and curbs. Although the BM Enduro loses to the motard in handling. Increased ground clearance results in a higher center of gravity, which forces you to choose different lean angles when cornering and a slightly lower speed. The overall dimensions of both motorcycles are similar, the difference of half a centimeter between the bases is not felt, but the BM Enduro is 3 cm narrower than the motard. And coupled with other suspension moves, it turns out that it steers completely differently. As it turned out later, it walks perfectly on asphalt at 130 km/h even with a passenger, but still hard road surfaces are not its element. The worse the road, the better for him.

While still in the city, having again joined the race for the guide, I almost flew into some kind of fence because of the brakes. No, they are not bad: they are just not as sharp as on the motard, which I was already accustomed to at the first stage of this “East Prussian Grand Prix”, in which I had to unwittingly participate. The foot one is especially soft. It is exactly the way it should be on an endurike: lightly pressing the brake lever does not lead to anything - you never know how the pilot will hit it with his boot on the off-road! — the pads begin to compress the brake disc not immediately, but smoothly, gradually squeezing it tighter and tighter. And the driver, after just a few presses of the lever, begins to feel the moment when the wheel is ready to become a stake. But the grip of the front brake is probably the same as on a motard.

When we approached the sand pit, where BELAZ trucks were working nearby, some of us were ready to squeal with delight, like a pig that saw a long-awaited puddle. And it was unlikely to be Motard. This is where the BM Enduro 250 came into full bloom. Decent ground clearance and large suspension travel made it possible to have a blast! Stones, logs, some pieces of iron and broken trees, “helpfully” thrown by local children into the mined-out quarry, were easily forced, and the engine power was quite enough to climb a fairly steep slope. The Motard 250 standing nearby sadly looked at this “disgrace”...

ON THE SEA SAND To be close to the sea and not take a plunge? This is somehow not Russian... But it’s cold in the Baltic, and I’m driving. so let's at least give the motorcycle a bath.

The BM Enduro took the dry sand of the beach, which, fortunately, there were no vacationers, harder than the quarry sand. Too clean and monotonous, probably. But persistent gas work and a suitable tire pattern did their job: I never got stuck. But the best part is driving along the surf! When the wave rolls back into the sea, and the front wheel steps on its heels. Or vice versa. The main thing here is to prevent the wave from overwhelming the high-voltage ignition line. And don’t inadvertently stop in a place where the sand, although damp, is loose: it will suck you in! It is clear that the motorcycle is not designed for the sea, but you still have to cross streams and small rivers on enduro. This motorcycle will cope with them with a bang, as, indeed, with many other things.

Owner reviews

Not a bad bike, bought it new in 2015 for 190k, bought it specifically for annealing. I’ve already read in reviews that it’s not suitable for just driving, so it’s all true. From such a position, your back and butt get tired in half an hour, so it’s better to ride standing on the pegs, plus the engine is angry, reacts sharply to the slightest turn of the gas handle. The suspensions are adjustable, but in any case they are rigid, so you can beat yourself up while sitting. The Dakar 250, as for me, is a motorcycle for squeezing out adrenaline, and not for driving to work and rare off-road trips on weekends. Anatoly, Moscow.

S2 Dakar 250 is absolutely fire!!! I service it based on mileage, not engine hours, since I drive carefully and without extreme conditions. I bought a second set of wheels with a smaller radius, converted it into a motard, and from time to time I change the wheels to drive through the forest. As for me, its element is, after all, off-road; it’s not comfortable on the asphalt, even on motard wheels. Dmitry, Nizhny Novgorod.

The bike is not a cross bike, it is purely hard enduro, so for ski jumping it is better to look at something else. But it is precisely for aggressive driving on the ground that the Dakar 250 is perfect, it pulls like mad, and the engine pulls in the entire range, and not just at the top. Alexander, Voronezh.

FAQ

  • Is it very different from the BM 250 Enduro DD? There are many differences, hence the significant difference in price. These motorcycles have only a few minor details in common, but their chassis and power plant are completely different.
  • What is the service life of this engine? According to the manufacturer, in extreme operating conditions, that is, in competitions, the motor can withstand at least 100 operating hours. And in civilian use, its resource is generally practically unlimited if you take care of the motorcycle and service it on time.
  • Does he have a PTS? Can I go to additional roads? Yes, this model is equipped with all the necessary lighting equipment, and is considered a vehicle, not sports equipment.

Conclusion

Baltmotors Dakar 250 is equally well suited for both ordinary off-road enthusiasts and novice athletes who need professional motorcycle equipment. It is, of course, inferior in characteristics to its eminent competitors from Europe and Japan, but this is already a question of price - the fruit of Russian-Chinese cooperation is noticeably cheaper. And we must admit that it fully justifies every ruble paid for it. Durable and reliable , this bike is capable of surviving many competitions, and under more moderate operating conditions, problems with it cannot be expected at all.

And now about each node separately.

Engine:

Unlike the 200, which is equipped with an engine from a Suzuki motorcycle, a different engine was chosen for the 250, but from the same family. The crankcase has been enlarged, the cylinder head and oil cooler are completely different. Because of this, engine cooling is more effective, and accordingly its service life increases. Not only can you please the eye by looking at the engine, it also pleasantly caresses the ear with its operation.

As stated in the technical manual, the engine power is 21 hp. which is 5 horses more than the 200th, exactly like the Honda Degree engine, which is recognized as one of the best. The riding experience became much better, the maximum speed increased by several tens of kilometers per hour, while the weight of the motorcycle remained the same as on the 200th - 126 kg.

In addition, the design of the air damper has undergone changes, and the adjustment knob has become very convenient.

Brakes:

The brake discs have become larger in diameter, unlike the 200th model, as a result of which the braking distance of the motorcycle has decreased. As for the pads and two piston calipers, they remained the same, there were no changes.

Exhaust:

Although the new exhaust pipe looks prettier than the one installed on the 200, due to the fact that it was chromed and laid a little lower in the engine area, it remained the same.

Footrests:

Down with the footpegs from the 200th model, the 250th model has all-metal, toothed footpegs that make the motorcycle more aggressive.

Instead of the 428 chain, which tended to stretch after 5000 km, the manufacturers installed the more practical 520 chain.

The shape of the steering wheel has not changed in any way, only the color has changed and the jumpers with the “pad” have been removed

Seat:

The seat is now one-piece without unnecessary seams, thanks to which it should last longer than the previous ones.

Wheel disks:

Instead of discs with stiffening ribs that were on the 200th, load-bearing ones were installed, which have greater rigidity. That's all, though. The Baltmotors Motard 250 DD motorcycle has become faster, the braking distance has been reduced, the chain is more durable and the appearance is more attractive than that of the Baltmotors Motard 200 DD.

The choice is yours! Is it worth overpaying for the sake of the appearance of the motorcycle and your safety?
