Verdict

The motorcycle can be called an offering to the God of speed, while being quite suitable as a production motorcycle. Despite its disposition, it is also suitable for travel. After all, the element of this motorcycle is the highway. It feels much worse in the city or heavy traffic. This is due to the large mass, size and engine, which requires a good breeze for cooling. We can definitely say that this is a good motorcycle, but not for everyone.

Suzuki GSX 1300 R Hayabusa is a motorcycle that is heard even by those who are far from the topic. All thanks to the interesting struggle that broke out between Japanese manufacturers for the title of the fastest in the world.

The history of the motorcycle indirectly began long before its appearance. In 1990, the Kawasaki ZZR 1100 appeared on the market and declared itself as the fastest production motorcycle in the class over 1000 cc.

Six years later, Honda takes the title. Suzuki could not stand aside and in 1999 introduced the GSX 1300 R Hayabusa to the world. Suzuki not only managed to take the title, but also retained it, despite the response from Kawasaki with their new ZX-12R Ninja.

It became clear that the confrontation would last a long time, if not forever. The maximum speed will increase beyond what is reasonable, which is contrary to any safety of a production motorcycle. An agreement was soon reached to limit the maximum speed of all production motorcycles to 299 km/h.

In 2008, Hayabusa was seriously updated, after which it was referred to as the second generation, which we will talk about now.

Suzuki Hayabusa

The Suzuki Hayabusa, in particular the GSX1300R, is by far the fastest motorcycle available. This model was first presented to a wide audience in 1999. Looking at the rather impressive dimensions of the motorcycle, doubts about its maximum speed involuntarily arise. And it was declared to be not small at all - more than 300 km/h. It was hard to imagine that this bike could accelerate to the unrealistic “two tons” (200 mph). But the testers proved to everyone that it is indeed real.

Now the Suzuki Hayabusa motorcycle has excellent aesthetics, an excellent aerodynamic body and excellent technical characteristics. This is the most famous and most recognizable sports bike that cannot be confused with any other motorcycle.

Summation

In less than a week I drove almost 1500 test kilometers on the Suzuki Hayabusa. I tested this bike in several major cities, on highways and on winding local roads. It works very well, it certainly doesn't feel sluggish when cornering, the suspension handles imperfections well. You can move around the city in traffic jams, and the aerodynamics make it easy to move at high speeds. Maybe this is not typical tourism, but the routes do not get tired like sports, despite the similar position.

Who is this for? Of course, not for everyone. It's easy to be fooled into thinking you have control of the fastest Suzuki. So it's more of an offer for experienced, risk-conscious, imaginative riders who love sports bikes, but off-speed also value comfort even for two people and with a load.

Modifications

So, as already mentioned, this motorcycle was first seen in 1999. Then it was equipped with an injection 4-cylinder engine with a volume of 1299 cm3. According to some reports, the motorcycle could reach speeds of up to 312 km/h. However, it was not the engine that caused such rave reviews. Balance - this is the quality that distinguished the Hayabusa motorcycle. The performance is, of course, great, but the design of the bike and the weight-to-power ratio - these qualities have really been worked out to perfection.

In 2000, the maximum speed was reduced to 299 km/h - Europeans considered this speed to be less dangerous than 320 km/h. One year later, the bus received a hydraulic timing belt (instead of a mechanical one), the fuel pump was moved to the tank, which made it possible to reduce the engine volume by 1 liter. At the same time, the designers worked on the aluminum subframe, which very often collapsed when driving with a load. Now it has become steel, so the bike has gained 4.5 kg. The Hayabusa was produced in this modification almost until 2004.

Suzuki Hayabusa GSX1300R is a true masterpiece of engineering; at first glance it amazes with its perfect and at the same time simple design.

And the original, unparalleled design of the streamlined and shiny silhouette will always attract admiring glances and cause envy to the owner of this powerful sports bike. You will see this for yourself by looking at our photo selection.

Further modernization

2008 was marked by the release of the third generation of Hayabusa models. The motorcycle has undergone significant changes. First of all, they affected the engine and body. Thus, the engine volume increased to 1340 cc. cm, the compression ratio has also increased. The Buckeye received a new fuel injection system, lighter pistons and valves, and the power of the king of the racing track increased to almost 200 horses.

The changes also affected the appearance - new optics and plastic contours gave the motorcycle a more modern and charismatic look. At the same time, the “busa” has not ceased to be recognizable.

Innovations did not pass by the brake system: 6-piston calipers were replaced with 4-piston calipers, discs were replaced with 310 mm instead of the usual 320 mm. Due to stricter noise standards, the exhaust system had to be modernized - now it meets all necessary standards.

Motorcycle characteristics

The Suzuki GSX1300R Hayabusa sports motorcycle is ideal for the race track - only there you can realize the full potential of the bike. Engine capacity 1350 cc. cm has incredible power - 200 hp. With. at 9500 rpm. Crossing the 6000 rpm mark, the Suzuki begins to demonstrate its true character - even at a speed of 250 km/h the bike easily picks up even more revs and reaches its top speed (300 km/h).

The engine, updated in 2008, provides an optimal power-to-hull ratio - almost 200 “horses” per 220 kg of dry weight. The designers worked hard to create a unique ergonomic body that provides minimal resistance to headwinds. The streamlining of the “beads” deserves special attention. The instrument panel has not remained unchanged - it is now equipped with a fuel gauge, speedometer and tachometer, as well as a new S-DMS mode switch and gear indicator.

Behind the wheel

I have mixed feelings behind the wheel of the GSX. It takes a wide range of indicators to get used to - two round analogue clocks and a speedometer (like a classic, I personally prefer a digital speed indicator), fuel level and coolant temperature indicator, gear indicator, gear shift indicator, etc.

Sitting behind the wheel of a Hayabusa, you get conflicting sensations...

Under our fingertips we have the ability to change the injection map - there are no noisy terms Rain, Sport and Race here, but only A, B and C. A is the fastest, C is the slowest. No traction control, no ABS, just common sense.

Updated engine, 1340 cc. cm, equipped with 16 valves and a liquid cooling system, increases the power of the motorcycle by as much as 11%. The new fuel injection system, which features two injectors per cylinder and even larger air intakes, provides ideal conditions for the formation of the fuel mixture. The mode switch (S-DMS) allows the pilot to select the optimal engine setting, depending on riding conditions and personal preferences. The new piston system features a slightly modified shape and improved compression ratio, which ensures maximum output in all driving modes of the Hayabusa. The motorcycle is equipped with a new exhaust system that meets all Euro 3 and Tier 2 requirements.

Even at extremely high speeds, the motorcycle behaves predictably, but only in the hands of a true professional. The behavior of the chassis can be predicted - the impressive weight of the bike and its filling provide the best combination, which is embodied in a sports motorcycle.

Suzuki Hayabusa GSX1300R body, suspension and braking system

The dynamic design, which is clearly visible in the photo of the Suzuki Hayabusa motorcycle, ensures such recognition of the bike. Designers and constructors have created a unique streamlined body that has a low drag coefficient, while the Hayabusa retains its characteristic features. The new inverted front fork features innovative DLC coating for minimal friction and unrivaled suspension functionality in a variety of riding conditions. By the way, about the suspension. It is not equipped with various electronic controls, but in manual mode it can be configured in a way that is convenient for the driver.

The updated brake system deserves special attention. The Hayabusa is a motorcycle equipped with Brembo monoblock calipers, which provide smooth but very effective braking. By the way, previous versions of the bike were characterized by an unfinished braking system.

A short summary

The technical parameters and stylish design of this vehicle make it one of the best bikes in the sports-touring class. You just have to look at the photo of the Hayabusa to understand that this is a truly dynamic motorcycle.

You can easily set any records on it, and the driver is very comfortable in the saddle of this iron horse. The only significant disadvantage is the fairly high cost of the motorbike.

Ergonomics of the case

The updated model of the sports motorcycle also features some design innovations. So, the passenger seat and the rear part of the frame dropped down a little, which made the passenger feel much more comfortable. The fuel tank also became a little lower - this freed up space for the driver's helmet and allowed the windshield to be raised. The latter is very important, since at high speed aerodynamic properties are especially relevant.

New headlights were specially developed for the new “bead”, which provide more intense light and better distribution. The rear light uses a special design consisting of a clear (inner) and red (outer) lens - this feature provides excellent visibility and a great appearance.

Speed mode

Hayabusa (motorcycle) accelerates to 100 km/h in literally 2.5 seconds. Reaching 250, the sport bike does not run out of steam - it continues to pick up speed just as easily. Professional racers can afford to accelerate the bus to 300 km/h, while the motorcycle still behaves confidently on the track and makes it easy to control.

It is unlikely that another bike will appear that will represent such an ideal balance of power and technical equipment as the Hayabusa. The motorcycle, which previously had a top speed of 320 km/h, has an excellent level of steering resistance, which is very convenient for various riding modes.

It stands o (literal translation from the Japanese word “Hayabusa”) does not really like to stand on the rear wheel, unlike the same R1 or CBR. The latter are purebred sports bikes, while the “busa” is more likely to be a true sports tourer, which is distinguished by a longer wheelbase and even distribution of power.

Estimated cost

One of the most important points is the price of the Suzuki Hayabusa GSX1300R.

The cost of a new model of this sports bike starts from 800,000 rubles.

Those who want to purchase a used model can expect a price that depends on the year of manufacture and technical condition of the motorcycle .

For example, a 1st generation Hayabusa from 1999-2007 will cost between $6,000 and $7,000.

But for the second generation 2008-2015, you will have to pay from 11,000 to 12,000 dollars.

How to choose Hayabusa?

It is worth remembering that the manufacturer carried out a recall campaign twice, and both cases were associated with a faulty timing chain tensioner. The mechanical spring very often failed, as a result the timing chain jumped off, and the so-called “Stalingrad” began in the engine. Therefore, when choosing a sports bike, you should pay attention to the timing belt. It is very simple to distinguish mechanics from hydraulics - an oil-type line is connected to the latter type of tensioner.

In addition, the first generations very often overheat due to the sensitive cooling system. That is why, when choosing a Hayabusa motorcycle, the technical characteristics of which currently have no analogues, you should carefully inspect it. So, a radiator clogged with dirt or tar is a sign that the bike is prone to overheating. After purchase, it is recommended to immediately change the antifreeze and remove all air pockets.

Disadvantages of the bike

One of the disadvantages of such a vehicle is the fact that high speed is absolutely not felt here. As a result, drivers are often fined for exceeding it. In addition, at low speeds the model demonstrates rather poor performance. But after engaging fourth gear and higher, all competitors remain far behind. Finally, such a vehicle is quite expensive.

For the gsx1300r Hayabusa you will have to pay from 5 thousand dollars. And the prices for services will be quite high.

The choice of real professionals

Suzuki Hayabusa is not just a motorcycle. Moreover, this is not just a sports bike. This is the embodiment of all the best qualities that real bikes should have. It has it all: aggressive design, ergonomic body, dynamic character and unrivaled power. Could there be anything better than Hayabusa? The motorcycle, the photo of which clearly demonstrates this, is simply created for true connoisseurs of speed. The bike handles well on the race track, it corners confidently and provides perfect grip on any surface.

Of course, Suzuki Hayabusa does not and cannot have competitors. Moreover, already at this moment we can say with confidence that this bike will become a legend and a prototype for other brothers.

Control

It is no different in presentation. Suzuki Hayabusa willingly puts on the following, winking tightly and widely. We don't really feel the weight, the Pirelli tires show what's happening on the road well. It's true that it's not a 600, but off the track it would be hard to see much of an advantage from a lighter bike.

The advantages of straight lines can be deadly in corners, but the Suzuki tested can also navigate with a passenger at really high speeds, although exceeding Newton meters is not an ally. It's like playing with a lion in a cage, tied only with a thin string. One wrong move and you lose. Therefore, if you are familiar with sayings like “I’ve already ridden 5000 km and I’m alive,” this bike is not for you. But if you are stubborn and despite all that you have experienced a test drive - I advise you to be very, very careful with the roll gas.

Even motorcyclists who ride every day were delighted and surprised by the reaction to the opening of the shock absorbers

And it does not control anything here and will not help if necessary. Without a doubt, the world of Hayabusa is a world of high speed. Interestingly, despite strenuous attempts, but probably also due to fear of the ground, it was difficult to close the 190-wide rear tire (experts know what happens). Apparently this type has it. Consistent surge protection provides effective reduction, but if that's not enough, the Hayabusa brakes from 2012 are the right support.

They don't disappoint in spirited driving around town or on the road and can easily get by. It is worth noting that since 2013, the Suzuki series has been assembling an even better Brembo system. The combustion is pleasantly surprising. The Hayabusa did not burn more than 600 during normal driving because it allows you to drive two gears higher.
