Review of the BRP Can-Am Outlander 6×6 1000 XT ATV

One of the well-proven models on the modern motorcycle market is the BRP Outlander 650 XMR ATV. It features excellent maneuverability, control, and increased cross-country ability. This model is equipped with a single seat and has a height of only 877 millimeters, which has a positive effect on driver comfort when driving over rough terrain. The manufacturer, like many of its other cars, equipped this with an adjustable air suspension, thanks to which high stability and additional capabilities were achieved, for example, for comfortable movement over small stones, the driver can independently make the suspension softer, which is quite convenient. A powerful Warn winch with a traction force of 1,360 kilograms and a special roller cable laying device are included as standard. This allows you to use the ATV not only for recreation, but also for performing various tasks, including towing any equipment and cargo.

The Outlander 650 PDU is reliably protected from damage during operation, namely, the most important components of the equipment were protected. Special protection made of steel is installed in the front and rear parts of the structure. The radiator of the power plant was slightly moved out and supplemented with a shockproof housing. The lower part of the structure has engine crankcase protection. All this together allows the driver to conquer a wide variety of terrain without worrying about accidental damage.

The high cross-country ability of the BRP Outlander 650 XMR ATV and its grip on any surface are due to the presence of 28-inch Maxxis Mudzilla tires, which also have increased lugs. The equipment is distinguished by high ground clearance, which is 299 millimeters, which is a pretty good indicator.

On the sides of the ATV there are footpegs made of aluminum. They provide the driver with a comfortable position of the legs, both when landing and during movement. There are also separate sports footrests, which are necessary for performing various maneuvers. In order to provide additional comfort, the manufacturer has added dynamic power steering, also known as DPS, as standard.

Equipment control is carried out using various elements located on the dashboard. The dashboard itself is equipped with:

  1. Multifunctional liquid crystal display.
  2. Hour meter.
  3. Daily mileage counter.
  4. Odometer.
  5. Speedometer.
  6. Tachometer.
  7. Engine coolant temperature indicator.
  8. Gear engaged indicator.
  9. Fuel level indicator in the tank.
  10. For hours.

There are four headlights at the front of the ATV, and brake lights and a reverse light at the rear. The rear luggage platform is designed to carry cargo weighing up to 90 kilograms. The front platform can support loads weighing up to 45 kilograms.

Comfort and ergonomics

If you travel long enough, you will find that the Outlander 500 is equipped with comfortable seating. It is also worth paying attention to the convenient location of numerous instruments and sensors. The digital instrument panel provides the driver with information about driving speed, engine temperature, fuel levels and so on. In addition, the ATV is equipped with the DESS electronic protection system, which no other all-terrain vehicle in this category can boast of. If your car somehow ends up in the hands of a car thief, he won't even be able to start it! The ECU is programmed to accept only your encoded keys and no others. And if the thief decides to go to the dealer for a new pair of keys, he will be caught red-handed.

The Outlander family has other exclusive features. For example, the LinQ luggage system for transporting bulk cargo. Special LinQ mounts allow you to place up to 45 kg. load in the front of the ATV and up to 90 kg. in the back. To stop the car with all this luggage, 214 mm brake discs with two-piston calipers (two at the rear and one at the front) are used. Thanks to hydraulic brakes, the driver can always be sure that he is in control of the situation. To illuminate the road at night, 230-watt headlights are used, and a 12-volt socket for connecting accessories allows you to take small electronics on the road, which will make your trip a little more enjoyable. Of course, the manufacturer offers advanced configurations for the Outlander 500, in particular, a DPS package that includes dynamic power steering with three modes, a Visco-Lok QE front differential and 12-inch wheels. The XT option adds a winch, heavy-duty rear and front bumpers, deflectors and more to the Outlander 500.

This car makes a very pleasant impression and gives the driver confidence that he can overcome any obstacles. The cost of an ATV is comparable to the price of other cars in this class. In some cases, it's even cheaper when you take all the options into account. Our test subject today handles perfectly at all speeds. After a long drive, we can only wish that it was equipped with slightly stiffer shock absorbers and springs. The two-cylinder Rotax engine is reliable and will serve you for many years. Bottom line, the Can-Am Outlander 500 is an excellent midsize ATV for buyers who want it all.

Reviews

  1. This ATV has not caused any particular complaints over a long period of operation. In principle, I am more than satisfied with the technology, but there are some technical shortcomings. The BRP Outlander 650 XMR performed very well off-road, the car does not dig into the mud and drives almost everywhere, even with a load. I also liked the controls, quite simple and responsive. In general, the ATV fully justifies its cost.
  2. I switched to an ATV from a snowmobile quite recently, but the controls seemed very familiar. The first car was a BRP Outlander 650 ATV. I bought it new, the running-in was successful. I recently changed the engine oil and at the same time inspected the structure. The equipment is made of very high quality, everything holds securely and does not even raise doubts. The model is very pleasant to use, especially the dynamics and maneuverability. For me, this ATV was a great option because I like to ride at fairly high speeds.

Outlander MAX

This ATV can accommodate 2 people – a driver and a passenger. It can be easily converted from a single-seater to a two-seater. The passenger seat has a backrest, it bends smoothly, it is quite large, and vibration is reduced due to the latch lock. Due to the tilt of the backrest, the passenger experiences minimal kickback during acceleration or steep ascent. Models are sold with or without dynamic power steering.

The rear passenger handrail is installed at an angle and bends when driving to reduce the load and impact on the hands. The latter can be placed in different ways due to the special design of the handrails. When riding alone, the rear seat with handles does not restrict space in the luggage rack and does not interfere with the driver. All parameters (depth, angles of footrests) are designed for a passenger sitting in the back. Therefore, there will be no discomfort while driving.

Outlander 800R-X XC

The Can-Am Outlander 800R X was developed in close collaboration with professional racers who competed in the popular Can-Am GNCC racing series. After running several races in the series, BRP decided to apply their experience to develop the Outlander 800X.

According to the company's management team, the experience of the riders should serve as an excellent service for new generations of ATV enthusiasts. All this convincingly proves that today Can-Am is developing and offering its customers unique, specific, niche models that will be in demand. The company also listens not only to the opinions of the racers, but also to its industrial partners, which is also a rather important point that ensures the development of the models produced, as well as the company as a whole. Experts expect that the company's new models will be highly appreciated by both professionals and amateur enthusiasts.

The Outlander X test drive convincingly proves how very different this car is from the Renegade and Outlander we are used to. The model is characterized by excellent racing qualities, excellent technical characteristics, excellent design, beautiful appearance, borrowed from its predecessors. The developers were given the task: to convert ordinary 4x4 projects into modern sports cars capable of participating in speed competitions. All Can-Am models have always been endowed with sporting potential, but often buyers were still forced to choose between the Renegade and Outlander. Today Can-Am released an all-new model that is designed for users who want an ATV that embodies the best features of both machines.
