King of Superbikes: 2022 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R

On November 23, Kawasaki Motor Europe presented to the public two versions of its top-end sportbike for the 2022 model year: the base Ninja ZX-10R and the homologation Ninja ZX-10RR.

The first thing that catches your eye when looking at the updated 10 is a radically different design, or rather the appearance of aerodynamic winglets that have already become common on modern motorcycles. True, in the case of the ZX-10R, the “flaps” do not look like separate elements that noticeably protrude beyond the body of the bike, but are actually part of the front fairing. The reshaped plastic results in a 17% increase in downforce at the front of the bike. Another advantage of the new design, based on aerodynamics, was the appearance of compact all-LED headlights. In addition, the changed aerodynamics required Japanese engineers to reconsider the ergonomics of the driver's seat: change the position of the steering wheel and footrests, and increase the windshield by 40 mm.

The chassis of Kawasaki's flagship liter sportbike, which has won 6 World Superbike titles, has also undergone some changes. In particular, the rear swingarm was lengthened by 8 mm, and its attachment point to the frame was lowered by 1 mm; The front fork reach has been increased by 2 mm, which in total has led to a lengthening of the wheelbase by 10 mm. The BFF (Balance Free Front Fork) inverted front fork and BFRC lite (Balance Free Rear Cushion) monoshock absorber from Showa remain unchanged, but have received improved settings for even easier and more precise control. It is important to note that the basic equipment of the 2021 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R includes an Öhlins electronic steering damper, indispensable on the track and during civilian riding. The braking performance of the new Kawasaki Ninja is of the highest level thanks to two Brembo M50 monoblock calipers paired with 330 mm discs.

In terms of its power characteristics (203 horsepower at 13,200 rpm), the updated 4-cylinder engine of the Ninja ZX-10R is no different from the engine of the previous generation motorcycle (with the exception of an improved cooling radiator), but easily fits into Euro-5 environmental standards " In addition, the Japanese manufacturer claims that installing an inertial supercharging system allows you to increase the number of “horses” to 213. In addition, on the new motorcycle, to improve dynamics at low and medium speeds, the gear ratios of the first three gears of the gearbox have been changed.

The main innovations also affected the electronic systems of the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R. As befits a flagship sportbike, the new Ninja has an advanced electronics package (Anti-lock Brake System, Kawasaki Intelligentanti-lock Brake System, Kawasaki Launch Control Mode, Kawasaki Engine Brake Control, Sport-Kawasaki TRaction Control), which includes electronic cruise control. control and a new 4.3-inch TFT screen. The color instrument panel is compact in size and offers additional features not available in the previous model.

In parallel with the production Ninja ZX-10R 2022 The Japanese manufacturer has unveiled a special version of the ZX-10RR, which will be produced in just 500 units in order to gain homologation for the Superbike World Championship. The engine design of the limited edition bike uses titanium connecting rods, forged Pankl pistons, sharper camshafts and stiffer valve springs, which ensures greater reliability in extreme conditions, raises the top bar by 400 rpm and increases power by one “horse”. Among the obvious advantages of the RR version, it is also worth mentioning reinforced brake lines and lightweight Marchesini wheels shod with Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP tires.

The base Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R will come in two color options - Lime Green / Ebony / Pearl Blizzard White and Flat Ebony, while the low-volume RR version is available in only one color - Lime Green.

WSBKmotorcycle racingcompetition

The International Motorcycling Federation (FIM) has announced the preliminary version of the WSBK World Road Racing Championship calendar for 2022.

According to the information provided, the 2022 championship will, like the current year’s championship, consist of 13 stages.

The first stage of the World Superbike 2018 championship will traditionally take place in Australia at the Philip Island circuit, February 23-25 next year. The championship will end, again traditionally for recent years, in Qatar at the Losail track, this will be October 25-27.

One of the changes in the calendar compared to the current year is that the seventh stage will take place not in Misano, Italy, as this year, but in the Czech Republic on the Brno circuit. However, the round in Misano will remain, but will be the ninth - and it is not the track in Rimini that completely disappears from the calendar, but the track in the German Lausitzring.

In addition to Germany, one of the two Spanish stages also falls - in Jerez. Instead, the race in Argentina is on the calendar.

The WSBK-2018 calendar looks like this:

Toprak Razgatlioglu declared 2022 World Superbike champion

Difficult weather conditions in Mandalika have jeopardized the final round of World Superbike, with rain on Saturday leading to the cancellation and postponement of the 1st race to Sunday in the hope that the weather forecast (storms and showers) will not materialize. In his last attempt, Jonathan Ray did everything in his power to prevent Razgatlioglu from becoming champion...

MOTOGONKI.RU, November 21, 2022 — And this race, postponed to Sunday morning, became essentially the only one that decided the outcome of the battle for the title.

The rain began to fall as the WorldSBK drivers lined up on the grid. The tires were changed in a hurry, right there. Most teams opted for the transitional Pirellis, seeing the rain easing. The race was eventually declared... dry. However, the race distance was reduced to 20 laps.

Start of the 1st IDNWorldSBK race in Mandalik

Toprak Razgatlioglu entered the starting line with a 30-point clear advantage over Jonathan Ray, who qualified 2nd on Saturday. Scott Redding started in 3rd position. And Ray got off to a perfect start, immediately taking the lead in the race. Razgatlioglu initially found himself under serious pressure from Redding. The Ducati rider pushed his way into 2nd position, but after Toprak found the grip, he immediately threw Scott off the wheel and made a dash for Ray.

The rain continued to fall for a while in sector 3 of the Mandalika International Street Circuit, so it was never a truly dry race, and the transition tires really came in handy. The pace was completely unstable; no one wanted to take risks. But the leaders took advantage of their opponents' caution to break into first position.

Toprak Razgatlioglu made a dangerous mistake when driving onto slippery markings

Scott Redding was also there, who managed to pass Razgatlioglu and Ray after Toprak found himself in an extremely unpleasant and dangerous situation: the Yamaha pilot missed the arc of turn 15, hit a wet (and very slippery curb) with his front wheel and slid with both wheels to the safety zone. Toprak managed to hold on to his motorcycle and returned, having lost two positions. The third position was almost taken away from him by Axel Bassani.

Jonathan Ray returns to the lead with 5 laps to go

8 laps before the finish, Scott Redding played on the side of Razgatlioglu: having led the race, Redding took away valuable 5 points from Ray, which could prevent the honoring of the new world champion from Turkey. But Scott was unable to complete the job, because Ray did everything to get ahead. With 5 laps to go, a very close battle ensued between him and Redding with an exchange of positions in which Ray was a little more aggressive.

Now everything was decided whether Toprak could return to 2nd position or whether the very last race should be decisive. PATA Yamaha caught up with the Ducati heading into lap 18 and passed into Turn 1. There was nothing Redding could do about it.

Ray finished 1st with 25 points, but Razgatlioglu finished 2nd with 20, so the distance between them remained at 25 points anyway.

Toprak Razgatlioglu is greeted as a world champion

Toprak was declared champion, despite the fact that there was another race ahead, in which, purely mathematically, the situation could change. But the pouring rain intervened again...

Position in the World Superbike Championship before the start of the rain final (this will be a separate story):

1. Toprak Razgatlioglu (Yamaha) - 551 points - new champion 2. Jonathan Ray (Kawasaki) - 526 (-25) 3. Scott Redding (Ducati) - 481 (-70) 4. Andrea Locatelli (Yamaha) - 283 (- 268) 5. Mikel Rinaldi (Ducati) - 282 (-269) ...
