The rating of the best maxiscooters for 2022 helps you make the right choice

Distinctive features

In fact, a maxiscooter is a full-fledged motorcycle. The “maxi” category includes scooters with an engine capacity from 150 to 800 cc. cm. From the 500 cc mark, scooters are called hyperscooters. This type of transport is designed for maximum speed and comfort on city roads. The design of a maxiscooter is no different from conventional low-power models. The engine, connected to the gearbox, is interlocked with the rear wheel and brake system. Off-road, such devices are difficult to maneuver. The seat can accommodate a maximum of two people. This type of transport has proven itself well in city traffic jams, allowing you to easily maneuver between cars. Fuel consumption is negligible.

The drive is mainly rear-wheel drive, the ignition system is electronic, and quite reliable. The torque is transferred from the engine to a belt or chain; the second type of transmission is better. The main elements are on the frame. It is predominantly made of steel for greater rigidity and longer use. Although fuel consumption is low, the maxi scooter’s tank holds a decent volume, and this, in turn, will allow you to be at gas stations less often and travel far away. The device is equipped with a hydraulic brake system.

The main differences between a maxiscooter and a motorcycle and scooter

As practice shows, maxi-scooters are almost in no way inferior to full-fledged large-sized bikes. They are also equipped with a large tank and a powerful motor. At the same time, not every motorcycle can compare with a maxiscooter in terms of efficiency, comfort and ease of operation. Therefore, if you need a vehicle for long trips, then it is best to give preference to this particular vehicle, which has the following advantages:

  • excellent handling;
  • power;
  • sustainability;
  • versatility;
  • reliable brakes;
  • practicality.

According to reviews from owners, the maxiscooter perfectly combines the best qualities of scooters and motorcycles. A modern high-speed maxi-scooter is capable of accelerating to high speeds. At the same time, the vehicle has a relatively low cost, which is much lower than the price of a new car.

The maxiscooter is equipped with a fairly spacious luggage compartment and a mounted special grille with springs that securely holds the load, so they are often used as tourist vehicles.

Just like on a motorcycle, two people can comfortably fit on the seat of a maxiscooter. Depending on the power of the installed engine, the vehicle can accelerate from 50 to 180 km/h. Most often, maxi-scooters are purchased for the purpose of quickly moving along the road, between cars stuck in traffic jams.

. By the end of the decade, Italian “maxis” appeared, but the largest European manufacturer of motorcycles, BMW, sat on the sidelines until the end of 2011.

“The slower you go, the further you will go” - maybe this is correct if we are talking about developing something new that should “blow up the night” or at least the market... This is exactly what the first BMW maxi-scooters in history did - two at once, yeah! - presented to the world at the end of 2011.

BMW C600 Sport and BMW C650GT are two sides of the same coin. Both scooters are built on the same platform around a 647 cm3 2-cylinder in-line engine producing 60 hp. s., but at the same time they differ in concept, appearance and driving performance.

C600 Sport

This is a modern, fashionable, reckless city dweller who is not averse to going somewhere within a couple of hundred kilometers to the region for the weekend, but gets the most pleasure from poking around in a traffic jam between sadly parked cars. Easily wagging the “sirloin”, the C600 Sport squeezes through even where, it would seem, only a fifty-kopeck piece can slip through. Maneuverability and low-speed handling are excellent thanks to the low center of gravity and stiff suspension. Just add a little more “lower” stuff, otherwise you have to wait a couple of seconds for the start.

The GT is noticeably warmer to drive: the wide fairing and electrically adjustable windshield do their job. Photo: Kirill Kalapov

After the start, the device quickly picks up speed, although in terms of dynamics it is still slightly behind the Yamaha TMax. But the side mirrors, unlike the same TMax, on the C600 Sport, although they are quite widely spaced, are at an average level in height: above the mirrors of sedans and below the mirrors of SUVs. But there’s another problem with the windshield (I haven’t yet met a motorcycle whose windshield would suit me): it’s difficult to adjust, you can’t adjust it while driving, and in the rain, not a single position gave the desired comfort.

But the wide sofa provides this comfort in abundance, especially since it, like the steering wheel handles, is equipped with heating that operates in several modes. You can sit completely relaxed, but for some reason you want to straighten your back, put your legs at right angles, brace yourself and shoot aggressively! Although with caution: the suspension of the C600 Sport is tightened to correspond to the name and idea of a maxi-scooter, so the device bounces noticeably on speed bumps, and smaller irregularities are transmitted to the driver, although muffled by a moderately soft seat.

BMW C650GT. Photo: Kirill Kalapov

C650GT

This is already maxi-maxi! Wider and more comfortable in every way. It has all the necessary bells and whistles for travel: electrically adjustable windshield, spacious underseat space, wide soft seat, almost car-like rear-view mirrors, improved water and dirt protection - the GT is noticeably warmer to drive than the Sport.

The C650GT, which is 12 kg heavier, is noticeably more imposing than its “younger brother,” and accelerates even more reluctantly, but those who understand life are in no hurry. And the device has not lost controllability, although the turning radius has increased, and the anti-traffic capabilities have decreased due to its dimensions.

BMW, in its cunning manner, decided to kill two birds with one stone and offered everyone thirsty a “set lunch”: why rush around, choose between different manufacturers, one has a city device, the other has a tourist one, when here they are: first, second and compote.

Tips for choosing

First of all, you need to decide on what roads you plan to drive on: around the city, over long distances or in sports racing. Depending on the purpose, the power and capabilities of the device are determined. Sale of cars for export, purchase of cars without technical control anywhere in France

  • Brand. Choose only brands from well-known manufacturers, your safety depends on it.
  • We strongly advise against purchasing a used maxiscooter, even from a trusted brand. Unfortunately, they tend to break quickly, and it will be quite difficult to find replacement consumables.
  • Models with an engine capacity of 200-250 cubic meters, compact ones and reaching speeds of up to 130 km per hour are suitable for city roads; other options are for speed lovers.
  • When driving on rough terrain, pay attention to the large diameter of the wheels from 30 cm and above and tires with a wide tread, the height of the air intake filter, the height of the muffler with an additional casing, high power and a pendulum, and ideally, a telescopic fork.
  • Visit more than one salon, consulting with specialists to create a clear and complete picture of the model you like.
  • While saving money when purchasing, you can lose money when operating the vehicle.
  • Fuel consumption. Be sure to take this point into account.
  • Price. Depending on your capabilities and wallet size.

We wish you good luck with your choice and on the roads!

Which maxiscooter is better to buy?

When choosing a maxi scooter for moving around the city or on the highway, you must first view an overview of all the models presented in the rating. Among the entire list of motorcycles, there are several models that are worth paying attention to:

  • Honda Forza X 250 MF06 – a medium-power scooter for city driving;
  • SYM Joymax (GTS 300I) – a model with a powerful engine for city and country driving;
  • Yamaha T MAX 500 SJ02J – a scooter with a beautiful design and maximum engine power;

BMW scooter - review and discussion about the first scooter of the German brand

Today, BMW is one of the most successful and expensive companies in the world producing cars and motorcycles. However, time passes and technology continues to actively develop along with it. Over the long period of the brand's existence on the market, the company managed to make one of the most powerful production motorcycles in the world - the BMW S1000R. However, German engineers decided not to stop there and thought about releasing another vehicle. Several years of development and the German company presented the world with its new brainchild, namely the maxi-scooter. What is a BMW scooter? Let's try to figure it out in this review.

BMW scooter – when was it introduced?

Nobody knows when exactly the development of the maxi-scooter began, but the official presentation of the very first model occurred in 2016. Before this, BMW only made sports motorcycles from two-wheeled vehicles. At the exhibition, the German company BMW exhibited two scooters at its stand. As it turned out later, this is one model, presented in two modifications.

In general, no one expected such a turn of events from the German brand, because the company did not announce that it was developing a maxi-scooter. However, it is worth saying that they really managed to surprise the audience; the new product turned out to be very unusual and, most importantly, modern. We believe that BMW has taken the right path and soon we will see several more worthy models that will find their use not only on city roads, but also on the highway.

In general, considering that this is the first scooter from BMW, we can say that the product turned out to be truly unique and worthy of attention. It is encouraging that the German brand was able to take such a big step forward and continues to actively develop in different directions. It is unknown how often the model range will be updated, but it seems to us that we will have to wait at least 3-5 years for new items.

Available modifications

Already today, two versions of the maxi-scooter from BMW are available to buyers. In general, the modifications are almost identical, but they still have some differences, which make it possible to reveal the model from different sides.

The new BMW C650 scooter received two modifications. The first is the GT version, which stands for Grand Turismo. With this abbreviation, the company hints that this scooter is quite suitable for long trips and travel. And here, of course, one cannot but agree. The bike is equipped with a large number of systems, such as ABS and stabilization. The spacious compartment under the seat also makes it convenient to travel long distances. Helmets and equipment can be stored there without any problems, which is quite important within the city. When you go out into the country, you can say with confidence that under the seat you will have everything you need for a trip for at least a week.

The second modification is a more sporty version, which is designated as C650 Sport. The difference between this version is that the scooter is more assembled. Here we see a slightly stiffer suspension, which improves the bike's handling when cornering. The steering wheel is narrowed, again for easier control, and the windshield is reduced to improve dynamics. There is also a slightly different body kit installed here, which has a slightly more aggressive appearance.

Specifications

Despite the fact that this is the first BMW scooter, it has received quite interesting technical characteristics. It has a two-cylinder in-line four-stroke engine with a volume of 650 cm3 and producing 60 hp. The maximum speed of this device is 180 km/h. For a maxi-scooter, this is a very good result and can be compared with some old sports bike. Perhaps there will be enough information regarding the technical part of the motorcycle and it will be much more interesting to talk about the features and systems that German engineers equipped this model with.

Features of the BMW scooter

The BMW C650 scooter boasts a large number of functions already in the basic configuration. Here you will find an indispensable assistant for yourself in the form of an ABS and traction control system. The driver and passenger seats are heated, and are available in several positions – cold, medium and hot. The handles on the steering wheel also have three-phase heating, which is quite a nice bonus when driving long distances. The only drawback we could find is that the dashboard is not very informative. In principle, there is everything a driver needs here, but the engineers decided to bypass the engine temperature sensor.

Conclusion about the scooter

If you want to move around the city comfortably and have all the technologies necessary and available today at your fingertips, then the BMW C650 scooter is what you need.

4PIAGGIO MP3 YOURBAN 300 SPORT LT E4

Best three-wheeled maxi scooter Country: Italy Average price: RUB 649,000

This three-wheeled maxi-scooter is not as common in Russia as its two-wheeled counterparts. In many ways, this neglect is caused by the cost, comparable to the price of a new domestic car. However, those owners who dared to purchase a Piaggio MP3 Yourban did not regret their choice for a second - it is for this reason that the model is among the best in our rating. CFMOTO 250 JETMAX

Piaggio MP3 Yourban 300 Sport LT E4

Quite an interesting model made in Italy. Differs in small overall dimensions. The engine capacity is 300 cc - as users note, this parameter is optimal for the conditions of the city and the nearest suburbs. The maximum power that this scooter can develop is 22 horsepower, which allows the device to accelerate to a speed of 120 km/h. The main point that distinguishes this unit from other models included in our rating is the presence of two wheels in the front. At the same time, the developers turned out the design to be not only unique, but also very maneuverable. The safety of the unit is at the highest level. The front suspension is based on a frame made in the shape of a parallelogram. It is made of high-quality aluminum alloy; on the rear side you can find two shock absorbers that are pre-adjustable.

The chassis here is also quite interesting - with their help you can enter turns, deviating from the vertical axis by about 40 degrees. The basis of the chassis is a reinforced frame made of steel pipes. The wheels are aluminum, the brake discs are larger, the brakes are activated when you press the appropriate pedal. The engine consumes little fuel and is equipped with a CVT transmission. The scooter has enlarged head optics, the windshield is adjustable, and a lot of data is displayed on the digital display.

Advantages:

  • Original design;
  • Ergonomics are carefully thought out, so you can easily travel long distances;
  • Excellent security;
  • Accelerates to high speeds;
  • Reliability - does not require frequent repairs.

Flaws:

  • Decent weight of the unit.

Piaggio MP3 Yourban 300 Sport LT E4

INNOCEMTI Radium 300i

An attractive and interesting model from a world-famous Italian company. The company has been producing similar products for many years. During the design process of this unit, engineers paid special attention to its attractive appearance, ergonomics of control and landing, maneuverability and wind protection. The scooter has 16-inch wheels - not every passenger car is equipped with wheels of this diameter. The windshield is shaped in such a way that it easily cuts off air flow from the driver, so it is permissible to use a helmet with 70% overlap, in other words, it is not at all necessary to provide chin protection. On the front side there are two fairly large headlights: the first is intended for low beam lighting, the second for high beam lighting. At the same time, the spot of light is not too large, so at a significant speed it may not be enough.

The engine capacity is 300 cc, which provides a thrust of 27 Nm. Acceleration to 100 km/h takes very little time. The seat is slightly inclined towards the steering wheel, is characterized by an average level of rigidity, and has good orthopedic qualities - the lower back will not get tired even during a long trip. The glove compartment is not very spacious, but everything you need on the road fits there with ease.

Advantages:

  • The ergonomics of the windshield are well thought out;
  • Easily accelerates to 100 km/h;
  • Optimal engine volume;
  • Anatomical seat with a slight slope towards the steering wheel.

Flaws:

  • The turn signal button is located directly under the horn, so pressing it is not very convenient.

INNOCEMTI Radium 300i

Sym Maxsym 400i

Universal two-wheeled products that are perfect for both short trips within the city and far beyond its borders. The seat here is double, each part is equipped with a passenger backrest. It will support the lower back in the correct position and prevent it from getting tired during many hours of driving. At the same time, the seat itself is two-level - it turns out that the passenger will be slightly higher than the driver. The front side of the product is equipped with fairly large headlights; the side lights are made using LED filaments. All this looks as aesthetically pleasing as possible, a bit like motorcycles from the Japanese company Yamaha. The steering wheel has a plastic cover that does not slip at all in your hands, and the dashboard is illuminated with a soft blue glow at night. Despite the fact that the product is quite large, it is quite easy to operate.

The scooter's center of gravity is low, so it can corner optimally. Only the central stand acts as a tilt limiter. When making a sharp turn, you can clearly feel that the developers have made the rear part much heavier than the front. The braking system of the scooter is simply excellent - both front and rear brakes work well, and the model is equipped with an ABS system. The engine is equipped with only one cylinder, allowing the unit to accelerate to 140 km/h or up to 160 km/h if the driver is driving without a passenger. The wind deflector functions optimally, but you won’t be able to adjust it to your height.

Advantages:

  • It behaves ideally both in city traffic and on the highway;
  • Accelerates quickly;
  • Reliable braking system;
  • High power of the unit;
  • Original seat shape.

Flaws:

  • You won’t be able to adjust the wind protection and adjust it to your own height.

Honda PCX-150

This model went on general sale back in 2012, but it still continues to be quite popular among motorcycle enthusiasts around the world. First of all, users prefer this scooter due to its original design and interesting internal layout, which is not similar to any modern unit. The front headlight looks quite massive, shines brightly and over quite a decent distance, so you can ride this scooter at night at a fairly high speed. The windshield is shortened and tinted. The steering wheel here is made of beautiful chrome-plated steel and is open. The mirrors are narrow, but the visibility in them is still very good. The instrument panel is made on a liquid crystal basis, has an anti-reflective coating and a high level of information content. The overall dimensions of the product are 1915x740x1090 mm, which ensures excellent maneuverability of the product.

The engine capacity here is 150 cc - enough for the city. The scooter is a two-seater. The seat is quite large, divided into two parts; the driver's seat has a not very high backrest. No inconvenience was found during long trips. There is enough legroom. The trunk profile is long, but not very deep - one helmet and a protective jacket can fit. The scooter is equipped with wheels with a radius of 14 inches, so steering is quite easy.

Advantages:

  • Low weight;
  • Low fuel consumption;
  • Very bright headlights;
  • Wind protection is well thought out;
  • There is a factory cigarette lighter;
  • Comfortable seat.

Flaws:

  • The tank capacity is only 8 liters.

Honda PCX-150

5GILERA GP800

The most powerful. Affordable price Country: Italy Average price: 345,000 rub.

The speed of 193 km/h for this maxi-scooter is the maximum value, while it accelerates to hundreds in just 5.7 seconds. For a vehicle with the most affordable price, these are the best indicators that can attract a demanding buyer. The engine develops a torque of 73 N*m, which transmits it to the rear wheel with minimal losses through a belt variator and chain drive. At the same time, the total mass of the maxi-scooter with a payload of 202 kg can reach 450 kg.

Owners note in their reviews that the high center of gravity of the GILERA GP800 for beginners leads to frequent loss of balance when stopping - the angle of inclination of the maxi-scooter at which it can be easily held is significantly less than that of other models. Given the decent weight of the device, slow maneuvering on it, as well as on a heavy motorcycle, requires certain skills. An open chain also requires more attention and regular maintenance. However, all these nuances (I dare not call them disadvantages) are more than compensated for by the most powerful engine and the best acceleration dynamics.

4SYM MAXSYM 600I ABS

The optimal choice for a measured ride Country: Taiwan Average price: 415,000 rubles. This manufacturer is widely represented in Russia, and its products are deservedly popular in the market. The SYM MAXSYM 600i ABS maxiscooter has decent power of 45 horsepower, and with a fuel consumption of 5 liters per hundred (combined cycle) it is capable of moving at a speed of 180 km/h. Despite this, the car does not accelerate as quickly as we would like, but it has a good reserve of endurance - the second passenger and a full load of the luggage compartment (and it is quite spacious) do not affect the dynamics at all. The owners also highly appreciate the work of the brake system, which is activated instantly, but at the same time operates smoothly, providing predictable deceleration from any speed. The handling of the maxiscooter also deserved praise in the reviews - despite its rather massive weight (224 kg) and length of 2.27 m, its maneuverability allows the owner to feel like a “fish in water” in congested city traffic. It is also suitable for country trips - there is a windshield, head light and the ability to install a trunk.

Elephants against flies: new maxi-scooters from BMW and Yamaha - Za Rulem magazine

— Vovochka, who has the biggest eggs in nature?

- At the elephant's!

- Vovochka, get out of class! Two!

- From those!

- Vovochka, count!

- That's it!

The logic of motorcycle marketers is complex and unpredictable. How many attempts have there been to beat Tmax’s leading position in the motor market, and all of them turned out to be fiascos! The concept, invented by Yamaha at the end of the last century - the appearance and dynamics of a “sports” scooter with the handling of a decent motorcycle - and twice improved, turned out to be many times (in terms of sales) more in demand than the alternative ideas of Honda, Suzuki and the Piaggio group.

Having looked at all these dances with tricks and licked their lips at such a tasty piece of the market, BMW Motorrad twirled their finger at their temple and decided... And they decided to walk on the pebbles, but sticking sandpaper on the sneakers. Fortunately, the main drawback of the “fly” is obvious: acute equine failure. Yes, a brilliantly crafted chassis allows you to “go 180” without getting scared or swearing, but getting to this line on the speedometer (which actually means a real 160) is long and painful. Rumors about a 750 cc “three-ruble car” in the Tmax chassis remained rumors.

Developed by the Bavarians from scratch (let me emphasize: this has nothing in common with the KYMCO engine, right down to the layout) the engine produces 60 horsepower from 647 cm³! At the same time, it is only slightly longer than the Yamaha one and almost narrower. The Germans did not make the engine a single-cylinder: here is an in-line “two” (more precisely, a false V-shaped one: the crankshaft journals are turned 90 degrees), with a normal balancing mechanism (shaft, not a false connecting rod) and a “semi-dry” crankcase. The highlight in the layout: the moment is transmitted from the middle of the crankshaft by a Morse chain to the intermediate shaft and from there to a short variator. The variator itself is no frills (roller control, dry drum clutch), except that the belt has a steel set, like on the Burgman 650. Well, there’s a guitar of gears after and a chain drive sprocket at the output. Yes, yes, the main gear is a chain, the usual “525”, only it is enclosed in a sealed pendulum casing and is in an oil bath, and the swing axis of the pendulum, resting on the crankcase, coincides with the axis of the drive sprocket, finally making the main gear almost eternal .

Cleanly done, don't you think? Personally, I'm delighted with the elegance of the layout. Moreover, the pendulum is made cantilever (it was necessary to justify such a cross-section of the spar!), which makes the design also beautiful in appearance.

Chassis? At the front there is an “inverted” one (non-adjustable, but full-size - however, like the traditional “telescope” of the Tmax), at the rear there is an almost horizontal side monoshock absorber, as on the GP800 (as well as a bunch of roadsters, from ER-6 to Monster). Nothing revolutionary in the frame either. It is steel, tubular, and in terms of shape and degree of integration of the engine crankcase into the supporting system, it is something between the first Tmax and GP800. At the same time, unlike the latter, the motor is attached rigidly to the frame, and not through silent blocks, which is encouraging in terms of labor-intensive maintenance on a mileage of about 20 thousand.

We see the result on the table with performance characteristics: the chassis is heavier than Yamaha’s, but a little larger, and the engine is almost one and a half times more powerful, which provides a “maximum speed” in real, not “instrumental” 175 km/h and much faster acceleration. The geometry and dimensions of the wheels match up to a decimal point, which is encouraging in terms of maneuverability.

And on this chassis there are two bodies to choose from!

They really are completely different (minus maybe some minor panels), the C600 Sport and C650 GT bodies. Even the instrument clusters are different, not to mention the ergonomics: the first one is similar to that of the “steel” Tmax, but with a less convenient tunnel, while the GT almost reliably copies that of the Burgman 650. Passengers also sit differently: on the Sport the footpegs are closer and they are folding, rather than a continuation of the platforms.

Miscellaneous and luggage compartments. The GT has a full-fledged “pit” for two helmets, but the “sport”... In the stowed position there is a “toilet” the size of a Timaksovsky and a small compartment for a raincoat, the bottom of which can be folded back on the accordion when parked and squeezed in another helmet (however, it is not recommended to forget it there - the wheel will strongly compact the luggage while moving...). The front “glove compartments” of both are almost identical and similar to the Timaksov ones. Another difference is the mechanism for adjusting the glass (in a modern way, from the driver’s seat): on the Sport it is done manually with two thumbs, on the GT it is electric, like on the GP800 and “big” BMWs.

And, of course, appearance. The Sport design is familiar from last year’s concept and is a big, aggressive and European-style hello to the Japanese. But the GT diligently imitates the R1200 RT, and the rear tail pads are devoid of functionality and simply work for the overall image. Effective, but stupid: the GT already has rather large dimensions (the width is 4-5 centimeters larger than both the “sport” and the “fly”), so these elephant ears are at increased risk of being torn off when parking close together, not to mention about the tough passage of traffic jams. In Sport, the “tail” is quite neat, and special thanks to the developers of the exhaust system: the elegant muffler not only looks neat, but also will not get in the way in a crowded street.

Are you sitting? Sit tight! For the Sport, BMW plans to charge almost as much as Yamaha for the Tmax. And the GT will be insignificantly more expensive. It seems that the Bavarians intend to walk through the “fly” positions with the same weighty march of war elephants as they did through the kingdom of R1 a couple of years before.

How does Yamaha intend to defend itself? A slight deep modernization of his bestseller. Regarding the power unit - boring the cylinders from 66 to 68 mm and installing “34” throttles, which gave an additional 30 cubic meters and 3 hp. A little, but further boosting this engine can only be done to the detriment of the resource (primarily the main bearings). Well, the rejection of the double chain final drive in an oil bath in favor of a toothed belt should add a little more efficiency. Not much…

The main efforts were devoted... yes, again, to improving controllability. The new pendulum is not only beautiful, but also much lighter than the previous one; Now not only the frame, but also the rear subframe has become aluminum. All together this allowed me to lose 4 kg. In addition, the Japanese claim that they have revised the characteristics of the front suspension (it’s good if so: fast damping on the current model, albeit a little, is still far from perfect).

Well, the appearance of the updated Tmax is completely different. But it’s not at all clear. Yes, the new panels and optics make the device more emotional, which I, as an ex-user of the current Tmax, can only welcome, as well as the two-position glass adjustment and the much more expensive-looking pendulum. But the C 600 Sport looks even more impressive, and the new “fly” tidy is an obvious step back.

So, two goals from the Bavarians against Japan? It's like watching...

Yes, Yamaha is inferior to the German couple in terms of dynamics and luggage capacity. But it has lighter weight, slightly smaller dimensions, most likely better handling (to determine how much, you need to drive all three, tightly and meticulously), front brakes (there are still 4-piston “semi-monoblocks”, the Bavarians limited to 2-piston floating, as on the old Tmax)… And ergonomics! The Tmax still fits in the hand like a sporting pistol, unlike the Bavarians, which force you to adjust to them, and, even worse, sit almost upright (oh, how I hate that!).

But for now this is just a theory. The wait for practice won't be long: sales of all three will start in April.

Review: BMW C600 Sport and C650 Gran Turismo maxi scooters. Photos, videos – BMW Club

BMW creates more than just premium cars. Motorsports fans have long noted the efforts of Bavarian designers and engineers aimed at designing various types of motorcycles. This time BMW Motorrad presents two vehicles in the premium maxi scooter segment. The BMW C 600 Sport and BMW C 650 GT are designed to combine the benefits of a motorcycle with the specific agility and comfort of a scooter for a new riding experience. The new maxi scooters will be produced at the BMW Motorrad plant in Berlin.

Two dynamic maxi scooters for sports and tourism.

The two scooters are based on the same concept, but each has its own unique character: the C 600 Sport is for riders with sporting ambitions, while the C 650 Gran Turismo is for customers who value comfort and functionality when riding. Regardless of their differences in concept, the new products represent the unique design language of BMW Motorrad, setting new standards in this segment. Modern and dynamic, they are an excellent example of BMW Motorrad's long-standing design philosophy.

Powerful 2-cylinder in-line engine with CVT and distinctive sound.

The 2-cylinder in-line engine is a completely new development from BMW Motorrad with a displacement of 647 cc. In both models, the rated motor output is 60 hp. at 7500 rpm, and its maximum torque is 66 Nm. The torque generated by the engine is transmitted through a continuously variable transmission (CVT).

The cylinders have a frontal inclination of 70°, which results in a low engine position and, consequently, a low center of gravity of the entire motorcycle. The distinctive sound and low vibration levels are the result of a 90° contact handle offset, a 270° ignition stroke and two balance shafts driven by gears.

The electronic fuel injection system is provided by four valves and two overhead camshafts. The 2-cylinder engine is fueled by a dual oil pump crankcase and an efficient cooling system ensures stable temperatures, optimizing engine performance.

The exhaust system is made entirely of stainless steel and complies with motorcycle specifications. Equipped with a closed-loop catalytic converter and an oxygen sensor, maxi scooters comply with today's Euro 4 exhaust emission standards.

Suspension. Easy handling and better ride stability.

One of the challenges in the development of the new generation of scooters is to combine directional stability at high speeds with good maneuverability in city traffic and clear feedback to the driver. To achieve this goal, the designers developed a hybrid suspension consisting of a serrated steel frame and a cast aluminum block with pendulum bearings. In addition, the motor functions as a load-bearing element with a particularly rigid structure for stable and highly precise control. The highest possible stability of movement is ensured by a light pendulum with a coaxial center of rotation.

Powerful braking system and ABS as standard.

The new BMW C 600 Sport and C 650 GT are equipped with a powerful braking system consisting of two rotary disc brakes on the front wheel and one brake disc on the rear, each 270 mm in diameter. At the same time, BMW Motorrad ABS as standard ensures the highest possible safety.

Multifunctional instrument panel and optional LED daytime running lights.

The dashboard of the new scooters houses a large, easy-to-read LCD display that displays tachometer (engine speed) and analogue speedometer readings and a large number of other useful functions.

For the first time, BMW Motorrad is offering LED daytime running lights as optional equipment on the C Series maxi scooter.

C 600 Sport with FlexCase.

FlexCase is an innovative concept introduced to create additional storage space for luggage. A hollow compartment under the seat increases the model's luggage space. You can use it, for example, to store two helmets in a parked motorcycle. You can also purchase additional overhead bags in hard or textile versions.

Main characteristics of the BMW C 600 Sport and C 650 GT scooters

  • efficient, optimized 2-cylinder in-line engine with high torque and CVT (The most powerful and efficient engine in its class).
  • compact size and stylish design.
  • The maximum speed of the BMW C 600 Sport and C 650 GT is 170 and 161 km/h, respectively.
  • Fuel consumption per 100 km is 4.4 l (Sport) and 5.6 l (GT).
  • output power 60 hp at 7500 rpm, maximum torque 66 Nm at 6000 rpm.
  • dense sound and low vibration levels.
  • Low fuel consumption and low emissions thanks to electronic fuel injection and closed-loop catalytic converter.
  • Concept suspension is particularly stiff and therefore more stable.
  • inverted fork (40 mm diameter) large size.
  • high level of safety thanks to a powerful braking system and ABS.
  • The parking brake is activated automatically via the footrest.
  • combination of multifunctional instruments with an on-board computer.

Differences between the C 600 Sport and C 650 GT

The sporty, dynamic BMW C 600 Sport scooter features a well-thought-out riding position for active riding. This became possible thanks to the ergonomic arrangement of the footrests, seat and steering wheel relative to each other. More stringent requirements for tourism and long trips are fulfilled by the luxurious maxi scooter BMW C 650 GT. The driver and passenger can take more comfortable, relaxed positions, which is especially appreciated during long journeys. The Gran Turismo model provides everything you need for a comfortable ride, including comfortable seats with adjustable backrests (for the driver) combined with a high handlebar and a comfortable footrest instead of a traditional footrest (for the passenger). In addition, the "tourist" offers a larger windshield with electronic adjustment.

Ergonomics

  • C 600 Sport. High seat position (seat height 810 mm), sporty flat steering wheel, eye-catching design, seating for 2 people and sporty passenger footrests.
  • C 650 GT. More comfortable and larger seats (seat height 780 mm) with adjustable backrest for the driver, high steering wheel, passenger footrest.

Windshield

  • C 600 Sport. Mechanically adjustable windshield. Three positions.
  • C 650 GT. Larger windshield (10 cm) with electronic adjustment.

Body and design

  • C 600 Sport. Sports, spartan panels. The thin “tail” with a rise and the angular edges of the body elements give the scooter lightness and dynamics.
  • C 650 GT. Ergonomic design emphasizing comfort attributes. Spacious, flowing body lines for comfort and protection from wind and weather.

Headlights, direction indicators, taillight

  • C 600 Sport: front turn indicators integrated into the fascia, two circular headlights with two side lights on the left and right sides, LED rear light clusters with one turn indicator.
  • C 650 GT: front direction indicators integrated into the mirrors, two circular headlights with side lights between them and a vertical light strip of three elements. LED rear light clusters with integrated turn indicators.

Luggage space

  • C 600 Sport with innovative FlexCase option – storage of luggage in the rear under the seat. Despite the small dimensions of the tail section, the compartment can easily accommodate two helmets.
  • C 650 GT with large luggage space (approx. 60 liters) in the rear.

Colors

  • C 600 Sport: space blue metallic (matt), titanium silver metallic, sapphire black metallic.
  • C 650 GT: sapphire black metallic, platinum bronze metallic.

Two new maxi scooters will make a splash this year. Both the C600 Sport and C650 GT were developed from the same base, but each has its own personality and distinctive features. In addition, the models are designed for different types of customers, which will ensure the popularity of each model in its segments. Experts predict big sales of new products.
