Engine

The Lynx 500 snowmobile is equipped with a gasoline two-stroke power plant. This unit has only two cylinders in the block, the total working volume of which is 0.431 liters. An air-forced cooling system is used, which allows the machine to be operated not only at low temperatures, but also in warm conditions. The lubrication system uses a special mixture that includes gasoline and oil. This provides the lubricating fluid with frost resistance, which is one of the necessary parameters in harsh operating conditions. The engine consumes about 20 liters of gasoline for every hundred. It is unpretentious in terms of the quality of the fuel being poured, but it is worth noting that gasoline of at least AI-80 is required. The engine is started manually, however, an electric starter can also be included in the package. A non-contact electronic ignition system is used, ensuring smooth and stable operation of the unit under various operating conditions.

"Lynx" - a forest motorcycle predator from Bashkiria

?Lynx? ? this name for the snowmobile became known to the general public in 1991, when the first high-quality all-terrain vehicle for conquering snowy plains was produced at the engine-building association in Ufa. It quickly gained popularity in various areas of human activity.

A significant territory of the Russian Federation is often covered with snow. Wide caterpillar ?Lynx? came to the aid of border guards, hunters and geologists. Having been tested in the conditions of Yakutia, the Ufa machines showed quite good results in their work. They endured frosts down to -40 degrees without interruption and could move on the crust at a decent speed. For these purposes, one of the serial snowmobiles was completely modernized.

In 2009, production of these machines was discontinued. But even today nimble “forest predators” fly across the snowy expanses.

Model line of snowmobiles ?Lynx?

The main representatives of the ?Lynx? family ? models 113, 119, 500 and 440.

For eighteen years the snowmobile “Lynx” changed my modifications many times. Starting from the first models, UMPO did not stop searching for the most successful solution to improve the reliability of domestic snowmobiles.

The firstborn is considered to be ?Lynx? 113. The prototype of this model was the time-tested Arctic Cat. The copy didn't turn out very well. To make the car lighter, the engine of the 113th model was made using light metals. Aluminum cylinders coated with silicon coating could not withstand heavy loads. The absence of a sleeve gave negative results. Catch a ?wedge? it was possible already in the first tens of kilometers of continuous movement.

Model 119 received significant changes. Made in a tourist version, it was superior to its predecessor. The design was improved: the snowmobile received a modified hood and pan, which made it possible to better overcome snow obstacles. The use of liners and more powerful cooling led to a decrease in breakdowns on the Lynx 119 associated with the operation of the cylinders.

The next snowmobile was ?Lynx-sport? 121. This model became a variant of 119. The snowmobile came out a little shorter, but received an advantage in maneuverability.

The “Lynx” machines can be considered top in the line of Ufa manufacturers. 500. Their main difference was the Mikuni carburetors. The hood was changed again. The caterpillar reached a width of 500 mm. The 500 MP was equipped with a gear transmission. All snowmobiles received electrically heated handlebars.

Today, the US-440, which is a modification of the five hundred, is in wide use.

  • In the winter of 2005, my father and I sold our old Buran snowmobile and decided to find a more improved alternative. And then we came across the Lynx 500 snowmobile. Not only did we like the machine for its design and performance, but another advantage was that it can also be used with 76-grade gasoline (AI-80). In general, we purchased a snowmobile at a cost of 115 thousand Russian rubles. The first impressions of this model were positive, and if we compare it with the same snowstorm, it is noticeable that the Lynx is superior to our first snowmobile in almost all respects: it is more powerful, convenient, maneuverable and simpler. Later it turned out that the car has one weak point, namely the gearbox chain, which very often needs to be tensioned again. As for the rest, we are quite pleased with the technology. So far there have been no serious breakdowns.
  • I bought Lynx 500+ and didn’t regret it at all. The snowmobile starts perfectly regardless of weather conditions. Personally, I have successfully and quickly started the engine many times at a temperature of minus 35 degrees, which is good news. The snowmobile is also very resistant to rollovers on slopes, which is due to the wide-spaced front skis. My configuration has heated steering wheel grips, which prevents your hands from freezing. Among the shortcomings, I would like to note that the engine is a little weak, and the gearbox does not have a neutral speed. The equipment is very reliable in operation. Once I reached a maximum speed of 80 kilometers per hour, and the snowmobile confidently stayed on the surface. But as the manufacturer claims about 20 liters of consumption per 100 kilometers, this did not happen. Consumption is much higher even when used in gentle mode.
  • I bought this snowmobile in the spring for half the price. All summer I waited for winter to come so I could test the purchase, and finally it happened. At the beginning of operation, no problems were identified, which was surprising, since I bought a used one from 2004. After the purchase, I replaced the variator belt with a Kevlar one. I drove every day for several hours for a month, before the first problems appeared. The return spring in the “kick starter” has flown (there is no electric starter...). But we still managed to fix it.
  • The advantages of this snowmobile are immediately clear. The market price, accessible to everyone (ranging from 80 thousand rubles to 150 thousand Russian rubles), will not cause large financial costs for maintenance. There is a speed for rear movement, which is very convenient off-road. There is also airflow for the steering wheel handles and legs, and a roomy seat. So far I have noticed the following shortcomings: poor placement of voltage regulators, which leads to oxidation of the terminals and loss of spark at the candles, and weak headlight switches, which is why many people connect directly, but this leads to a more difficult engine start when cold. Otherwise, it’s a good device, superior in appearance to the well-known Buran snowmobile, but slightly inferior to it in technical characteristics.
